My motto is "you can have any color you want, as long as it's black".
Oh wait, that's not mine.

Shoot, I got his number... does that make me leet too?
Oh, and DJ, damned fine piece! The details are GREAT, especially on TA. I can't wait to see the improvements you have in the works as, I'd agree, in the grander scheme of your body of 3d work, it's not your best (though that still makes it great by most standards). Foo made a good point as one thing that might be dragging it down a notch is the fact that it looks too perfect... the city looks perfect, both characters look pristine and mathematically perfect... and that always comes off as a touch stiff and too precalcualted. I would try to offer up some suggestions on fixes, but not only do I not really have any (the 3d realm is way far out of my domain... I would have no idea where to start ) but it sounds as if you and TA already have a new battle plan in mind. I really can't wait to see the tweaks! It's a great piece, but coming from you, it can be even better!
It's also been too long since this board was graced by your work Good to see some new stuff!
I'm with Foo in that the piece feels a bit too clean, especially for a huge epic showdown in the pinnace of epicness that is RV. Still it's awesome to see the Art Wh0rez0r Supreme meeting the Best Damn Artist Evar (and you have his phone number TA? What, did you weld a lucky horseshoe and a silver spoon together or something?)

Wow... Beautiful piece.. I can't wait to see the improvements you and TA have worked out. As it is, I think this piece is amazing...
...although I have to agree that it does look rather clean for an Arachnos victory in RV. I would expect it to be darker... more smoke, although not so much as to obscure the scene.
A quick question... saliva isn't good for a keyboard, is it?
Love seeing your work, DJ...

Wow, I love the armor that TA has on. The detail is great. I'm biased though, since that's the same armor that Mav wears (colors too). Very cool.
Amazing as always DJ. I have no critiques because its all great. And you have no loss of detail on this version. There is so much everywhere. I really like how you have AoT's red lightning looks kind of like he's holding a 'rod' of lighting as it were. Its kind of how I imagine Zeus holding a lightning bold ready to throw it albet a little smaller than a Zeus would have.
Wow.......
Someday I'd hope to get an art work done even a 10th that good. Very well done.

Freaking awesome ! ! !
The pic is good, but as you say it, it could be more dynamic. Looking forward to the update one.
*UPDATE*
Here's a newer version. I chose to switch back to a vertical format so I could push the characters together. I also made some improvements based on feedback from this thread, including adding more powerful effects (Thanks Juggertha) and more dirt to the world (thanks Graver).
It's not finished til TA is happy, but I feel a lot better abot this version.
PS - I rendered this at 200 dpi, so it'll make a grat wall poster at about 20" x 30". Might just have to print 2 copies.
THOR'S ASSASSIN versus ASSASSIN OF THOR - (version 2)
OOOH now THAT is totally awesome, I LOVE the smoke 'rolling' off the block, I love the electricity intermingling... I agree, much better presentation !!
Could almost be like one of those motiviational posters but I can't think of a catch phrase :P
I like this one as well. To me, both versions are great, I'd be happy with either one of them.

At the risk of sounding like a drunken redneck (because my state - especially the part I'm from - is known for those) -
HELL YES! ><
I love what you did with this. It was good before... this though; this is what I've come to expect >_< I especially love the way the staff is charged... just... awesome ><;
<CHEERS>! <^_^>
Oh, and that smoke is excellent as well >.<;;
Makes me think of the line "our speakers go to 11, everyone elses go to 10 but ours do 11 cause its louder" I was impressed with the first one and this one is better. The smoke and lightning really increase the action and feel of the piece. Bravo.
Much much much better!!!! I really like the smoke rolling off the edge of the building.
I prefer version #2 as well. The overall composition looks better in the Portrait format as opposed to Landscape. And I like all the effects you added to both their powers!
Yeah, that's a drastic improvement. The new composition is excellent.
In #2, AoT's hand is a bit warped looking because of the lightning... But really good!

At long last, I've been given the opportunity to re-make the models of these two characters. I did them a year ago or so, but the models were under-detailed and I thought they could use an upgrade. I got a couple pieces from Kevin Sharby ("Serbu" on the boards) since his were so incredible, but he based his versions on a different Poser model and some conversion was called for.

No problem, Juggertha... of course they were =)
Comments and critiques are always welcome and I take (most) suggestions seriously, but in the end, as long as TA and I are both happy with the piece, that's all that matters.
However, TA and I chatted about the piece earlier and both of us came up with ideas that could make it stronger... and it turned out some of our ideas overlapped. Even though we both like it as-is, we agree that it can be squeezed for more actiony-goodness. That's typical of a good artist-client relationship and tweaks/corrections/modification are par for the course.
Any artist who isn't willing to make adjustments for their client is doomed to fail.
