"Thor's Assassin" vs "Assassin Of Thor" (Updated)

At long last, I've been given the opportunity to re-make the models of these two characters. I did them a year ago or so, but the models were under-detailed and I thought they could use an upgrade. I got a couple pieces from Kevin Sharby ("Serbu" on the boards) since his were so incredible, but he based his versions on a different Poser model and some conversion was called for.

I think the best thing in this piece... is the way TA is comming in, almost like he's taking back a whole section of city (Given that AoT is standing near the Recluse version of the Atlas statue).

Its just.. well, I hate to use the overused word... but Epic.

Whoa!!! Even the detail on Recluse in the background it awesome! just one nit pick...the vs doesn't seem centered between the two names. Ok, my perfectionism is done now. Once again amazing. I can't wait til I can get a 3D piece from ya!

A question on the nemesis staff though, does it look to solid? er.....for lack of words I use solid. But it usually has little parts inside it so I was just curious!


But the detailed shots show just how bad [censored] Douglas Shuler is!!

I think that might just be the angle, TA. If you look at it closer, you can see some gaps.. it just happens to be tilted back so you don't see much of that.

...this one didn't wow me as much. I'm not sure what it is (maybe just early in the morning for me) but it seems to be missing some BAM!

The hands seem a bit small, but that's not totally it. There's no glaring tech problems (f course not, it's DJ), but I'm still wanting a little more to tease my eye.

For example, look at AoT. His hands seem to be curling around something - perhaps even something big. But instead it's only a few threads of lightning. I think it might be cool if you beefed that up a little and put some sizzle into it.

Basically, I imagin these two as being rip-roarin' with energy... and this piece isn't there yet. I know almost no one would say this to DJ, but I thought I'd be honest. I might be wrong... but it's my opinion.

The first pass had a LOT more lightning and energy on it, but the effects were obscuring the characters. I chose to town it down a bit. Of course, if TA wants changes, I do the changes =)

Just so you feel better, I don't love this one as much as his last couple of pieces either. I wasn't going to comment unless I can think of a really good critique, and I don't have one just yet, but I don't want you to feel alone in the world!

Yeah, I hope my thoughts were taken in the right way. DJ, please have no doubtthat I lvoe your stuff... but I htink it is always good to get different takes on a pice.

Mine was just a suggestion... like you said, maybe you tried it and it just didn't look right with more electricity floating around.

I just felt more power needed to be drawn to the hands.

My only critique: I wish it were more... dirty. Things are too crisp for my liking. I feel like it could be scuffed up a bit and antialiased, for lack of a better term.

It's a nice piece, though, for sure.
