Describe the artist's style

There is a growing number of artists on this board doing various forms of fan art for people. Looking through this forum each day I notice that the styles differ greatly. I did not go to school for art and would be embarassed to try to describe the different styles, but I think it'd be cool to hear what some people think of other's looks.

(forgive me, it's late here but I feel like posting before bed).

Here's my thoughts so far...

Dark Jedi (I have to start with him) - very versatile in almost every medium. Strong eye for detail and an uncanny sense perspective and overall composition (ok, that sounded way too schoolish).

Davenport - great flow to his characters. Unique proportions MAKE his style.

MMOART - (not always clear who is working on what project - is it one person or a whole team?) Even being unclear of the process, I admire their ability to crank out comic book quality no matter the character. They can turn even the most *cough*average*cough* concept into something amazing.

Jim Tessier - Dramatic poses, great proportions, and... well, I know it's not his style, but I just wish he'd dable into coloring more often. I'd love to see a polished piece by Jim.

Celtic Bolt - can anyone say BLACK? He definately uses a lot of it in his style. I think it makes for dramatic poses and all, but, just once, I'd like to see an "off-black" background. Maybe Charcoal CB?

Sweet Thang - don't you know you're my everything?? Seriously, I'm lovin' the cartoon look man. Any chance we're going to see more variations?

Doom Supremacy - You know, at first I wasn't sure what to make of the Guild Helper team. I wasn't all that moved by their original gallery and it seemed like their selection was kind of limited. That's all changed though. The last few pieces have really rounded out their collection and have knocked me on my butt on more than one occasion.

Graver - man, if there is one person whose art just makes me shake my head, it's this guy. With some of the other ones I can kind of (kind of) see how they got to where they are (in the piece). With graver, it's still a mystery. He is the inigma.

The PMD - you know, I really wish I could see more of his stuff. The shot from his avatar was cool enough but IMO it does not go far enough into this man's talent. He has an amzing teaching ability in this area and I'd love to sit in his class one day.

So, I know I missed a lot of people... but I'm tired now and done writing. This of course is all meant in the best spirit. I'm just curious to see what other people think of the different styles on this board.

So, what styles do you see floating around here?

Hmm, the art from MMOART is from just one person, Jomaro. His wife, Nakiesha is an artist who handles a good portion of the business side but doesn't do this type of work.

Your comments make me think you might have been talking about the Guildhelper group. They do some great work...but I can't tell from their site who is actually doing what. Although I agree with you that while their original selection was limited, there offerings lately have be fantastic.

I am not sure I could nail down to many of our regular artists with just a line or two. Personally I just love the smorgasboard of art we are privileged to enjoy.

=^_^=

^^ Thanks Katfood, but I wouldn't dare call myself an artist, lol. MMOART is just by Jomaro (Gill Bates) and I, a hubby and wifey team. He handles the creative process, from the site design to the artwork. And I handle all the admin. stuff like site updates, email correspondence, production and shipping. It's funny, even though we've always explained it's just us two in the site Welcome area, most people still think we're a larger entity than we really are. I take that as a good thing

I feel really embarased because I had no idea Lush was Jamaro's wife...

Anywayz, I gotta go meet a friend of mine I haven't seen in a while but I'll comment on the styles later when I have a bit more time to sit and think.

Yeah, everyone wishes they could see more of my stuff, including me! I really appreciate the kind words, especially given that I've barely posted anything.

I'm working on a commission for You Know Who right now, and I'll have pencils from that to show really soon. Other than that, I'm digitally inking a comic book for a friend that I can't show until (unless) it's published. And I'm trying to find time to get my website back up with 3-d game art and tutorials on such, but that's going more slowly than I like. In the meantime, I'll continue to swing by here and critique art when it strikes my fancy.

You left out one of my personal favorite artists here, Sayterra. Her work has that great animation style, filled with character. She has some of the best poses on the board IMO. They're so fluid and natural.

Yep I also noticed he missed that one. And I agree that she is great.

And He was too humble to put.

_Juggertha_ : This guy ran out of ink and never went back to buy more (either that or Celtic bolt stole all he had) His lineless art is distinctive and impressive.

Most peoples art forms are graphic novel esk. Opinions on what mine is?

Yeah, I have a feeling I left out a whole bunch o' people. It was late and I was wanting to write it before I went to bed.

As for MMOART then, my comments still stand - comic book quality on every piece, no exception. Her work is great!

Oh and... hehehe, I laughed my butt off on the "ink" comment Greymist.

* cough * sorry, had something in my throat. HIS work is great! Honestly man... you do some seriously amazing stuff. What are your thoughts of the other artists on this board (their styles)?

I know who you forgot! <O_O> ME! <,<

(JK <,< I'm not really worth mentioning <'x'> lol; but my ego required me to pipe up <,&lt

I should probably attempt to add something useful to this discussion... I shall have to think about exactly what to say about all you crazy people though... <¬.¬> <think think think>

Another artist that I really like that hasn't been mentioned is Scarf_Girl. Her chibis and non-chibis have this cool, unique, kinda animation style thats very clean.

And lets not forget Atomic Knight. He can do a whole bunch of styles, but his own kicks the most [censored].

It's like a tall glass of OJ... heavy on the pulp

And... ya... piles of artists were left out... I'll just add one to the stack...

Pep_Rally, who has a nice touch of low-brow punk to her work... though, it might just be me, but I think I see some AK influence on ya as well for a bit of flavor.

Still no opinions of me, ;_;.

Well <^,~> in all fairness - he did say he was really really tired when he did this <'x'> cides <x,x> at least myself I'm definitely not good enough to have someone come up with an opinion of me... ya know what'd make this task much much easier? (And I mean this in-general)

We should have a signup sheet stickied in this forum where you can add your name as an artist here - just to keep people straight ya know? <@o@>

Awwww Peppy beat me to it!!!

Scarf_Girl has a really unique whimsical style with an incredible amount of detail in it. AK's is heavy and pulpy and really packs a wallop!

Of COURSE Graver's my fave

....He pays me to say that every once in a while >_>

And someone else who's name I forget is doing those photo manipulations which I consider artistic as well. Unfortunately, I stink at remembering names. At any rate, I thought his/her last post was neat showing the images they were using to create their next piece.

Yeah seriously guys, I know I missed about half the artists on this board. That's why I was kind of hoping others would step in. Not only do I want to hear about the artists that I missed, but I'm also curious to hear about the ones I commented on. I just want to hear other peoples thoughts on tthe art here.

As for having a thread just for artists (and their galleries) we kind of have that already (top of this forum), but IMO it seems cluttered and out of date. Maybe it should be tossed and a new one started up?

Hey, I know what we should do...for someone seeking a sample of every artist who posts on these forums...we can just direct them to TA's webpage! Donel.

Heyyy! Good idea! XD

Personally I'd love it if there was just a master post (not a thread) that had updated websites or sample art. I think Blizzard has that in their gallery. why do these guys not even accept anymore fan art? (was that ever answered?)

How about if we start a new thrread called something like The Art Page, and it could be just for art posts. No comments just art. Each artist could post all there work past present and future . I would love to everyone elses artwork. Just an idea.

If you can get the forum-gods to sticky that, it seems a good idea. Good luck, though.

... /tickedoff...

Well, I *had* just written up a pretty long thing about several people's style <-.-> spent about a half an hour on it... the forum seems to have eaten the text when I hit 'preview', all that was left was the few words I typed at the start...

So... I shall get us back on track later >.< anyways, this is honestly an intriguing thread Juggertha, I think I'm realizing why not more people have posted - its alot of work ; and there are a freaking *TON* of artists in this forum <O.O> I was looking through the various threads and uhm... just wow.
