This is funny read all of it.

1. The most common REQUEST everyone makes (level $level $Archetype looking for team) is preset to the LOCAL chat channel.

2. If you make a REQUEST in the REQUEST channel people will yell at you and make you use BROADCAST.

3. The reason for 2 is so Hami raid leaders can make BROADCASTS in the REQUEST channel.

4. You can stand around for weeks with "Looking for Team" on but you'll never find a team.

5. If you forget to turn "Looking for Team" on you'll be bombarded with a million tells and invites to various teams.

6. It takes 3 different options "Not Seeking" "Not accepting Invites" and /hide to keep people from inviting you.

7. Seach Comments are a wonderfull thing but no one ever reads them. Proof of this fact is that I've gotten so many tells asking "are you a healer" my search comment evloved from "DDD" "Dark/Dark Defender" "Not a healer" and finally to "I'M NOT A HEALER STOP ASKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and after all that the tells still keep comming.

8. People who have Seeking team on or request for a team will quit the team as soon as they're invited.

9. It's OK to invite someone who is "Not Seeking" as long as you /t them first.

10. If you're "Not Seeking" and you've declined 10 invites from the same person they will never stop sending them.

Solutions

1. Change the f9 bind so it's allready set to request so we don't have to keep resetting it.

2 and 3. Make your BROADCASTS in the BROADCAST chanel and let the other people make their REQUESTS in the REQUEST channel and you won't have to yell at them. Hell we should be yelling at the Hami raid leaders, they're the ones speaking in the wrong chat chanel. lol

4 and 5. Learn to read. If they have "Seeking Team" on that means they DO what a team. If "Not Seeking" is on that means leave them the hell alone.

6. Really now why was the "Not Accepting Invites" thing even added as a new option? It kinda makes "Not Seeking" completly useless. They should've just changed "Not Seeking" so it auto declines those pesky invites.

7. Read the damn Search Comments before asking stupid questions.

8. Turn your seek team off and stop hitting the f9 button if you're not going to join a team.

9. This is something I do in emergencys like I'm going to fail a timed mission and no one is seeking team.

10. Get a brain. If someone declines you once they're going to keep declineing so stop sending them the damn invites.

The answer to 6 is we might be hoping to get a team by not leaving our seek flag up. See #5.

Or, y'know, we might just forget.

Except that a lot of the time I see people who are "Not Seeking a Team" with Search Comments that say things like "LFT" or "Please Invite!", "LF AV Team", etc. etc.

Maybe the Problem is that people don't comprehend what the drop menu does, or changing it to "Looking for Team" is just far too much effort for them.

Geeze, if I'm looking for team members, and the don't have the LFT flag up, but the thing says "lft" or says nothing, I invite them, because yeah, people DO forget to change their dang flag. I always send informative, short tells (lvl 25 CoT timed msh, interested?) and no one ever yells at me for it. IN FACT, there is *someone* on Virtue, who is *always* in Pocket D with "Please send me a tell so I can tell you exactly why I'm declining it" and I see this as a challenge so I *always* send them a tell.....so far, not ONCE has this player send me any sort of decline other than just not replying. Must be a sort of game to them, and I'm just happy to oblige them. ANYWAY, whether or not a player has the LFT (or whichever) flag up or not is irrelavent to me. If they have "Not looking for team" in they little comment box, THOSE folks I leave alone, and I never ever send invites without first send int a tell and then getting a response asking me to send an invite.

I'm pretty good at turning on my " Looking for Team" tab. This is the thing; try doing a search for all people lfg. You won't find but maybe one or two. The most I ever found at one time is three. Now Choose ALL and there everyone is. Read their message and some say everything from " Eat worms and die" to "I Heal, call me!". About a month ago I started randomly asking people if they checked the box. A lot of people said that they did. They showed up under their own search as looking for team. Funny though, because I don't show up on my own search for lfg. I do, however, when I do a search for specified player level. I do a search for team leaders when I dc and cannot remember how to spell their character name. Can only rarely find them anymore. Oh, they are there. But the system doesn't show them as being in a group and in mission. So to overcome this now I make it a point to put the leader on my Friends list in case of a dc so I can send a tell just as soon as I log back in. I stood in St. Martin and did a search for all players in St. Martin. The computer said there was 12. 4 were on the mission I had just been invited to. 5 were standing as a group at the Ferry. I SJ'd over a group of 4 fighting wailers just off shore from the base surrounding the ferry. And 5 more surrounding the Science Quartermaster. I did another search, thinking that perhaps more had logged in since I did a search at the Ferry. No one had. The count still said 12 in the listing. I had just seen 18 people in the time it took me to get from the Ferry to the Store. I really don't think that there are too many people who run around late at night with /hide running.

In case anyone was wondering, I was originally doing a search for a friend who was supposed to be logging in about the same time that I had joined the team. I was going to invite her while the team finished the little bit left of the mission they had left. Since I wasn't going to get a mission bonus, I just said I'd wait outside so they didn't have to hold up on my account.

[/ QUOTE ] One time when those new serch features were first added I ran a search and didn't pay attention to the names that came up in the search. After a while I relized that everyone who came up in the serch box was me and the like 3 other people who were allready on my team before I did the serch. lol

#11 - turning on looking for team after a team has disbanded/or you've relogged to a different toon, actually doesn't put you on the search window. i've had countless times where i set the 'looking for team' and wonder why i don't get any invites, only to find the search window doesn't show me.
only solution i've found is too keep switching through the looking for ..team, them tf, then patrol, then ....' you get the idea. after about four or five rolls through the types, then hitting the refresh for search about 5-10 times and suddenly, there you are.

Personal experience: Writing ANYTHING in your search box will do more to get you invites than anything else you can do. People who search for teamates often look towards what stands out. You have a zillion empty boxes and then someone who's actually written something jumping off the page at you.

Whether that something is "hell no, go away" or "Please Send Tell" or "LFT!!"

The addition of "Ignore all invites" is very welcome, by the way

2. Depends on the type of request. Don't put in the request channel that you're a lvl 2 MM LFT. Who cares??? Only the ppl on Mercy care, not the whole game! This is definitely a case-by-case basis. A reasonable request certainly does belong in the request channel, and someone who yells at someone else for making a reasonable request in the request channel is an idiot, IMO.

3. Relates to #2. How many 45+ confine themselves to ONE zone ONLY? A Hami Raid needs to use the Request channel to hit it's maximum audience, considering you need 50+ ppl to kill the sucker. And, someone with 3 lvl 50s whose playing a lvl 12 atm may want in on the Raid.

Ideal solution is for EVERYONE to sign up for their respective server's Badge/Monster hunting channels, and that would solve the problem. Not gonna happen, but it would solve the problem

It depends on the team, here.

Some people seem to think that "Looking for team" means "Looking for ANY team, no matter what level, and no matter what my search comment says." Those I leave in a heartbeat.

Like the time my (then) 40ish blaster got invited to what turned out to be a cape mission. Or the many times that I have been invited to PL, bridge, or farm when my search message says "No PL, no bridging, no farming."

There have been other times when I have been sorely tempted to quit as soon as I joined. "Hey! Pick up a rack full of wakes and bring them to us!!!"

[/ QUOTE ] The times I've seen this that has not been the case. I some times see people standing around for long periods of time begging for a team then I just feel sorry for them invite them to join me and they join and quit 2 sec. later before I even get a chance to say hello. It's times like this I think if you didn't want a team why the hell are you begging for one? and this is what I was refering to with 8.

There's allso the fact that there IS a decline button so why do people join teams at all if they're just going to quit like that, that's what a decline button is for.

I agree. Sometimes I'll find that the team I just joined expects me to fight seas of purple minions or grey bosses. And the other day I got a tell asking for powerleveling despite saying I don't powerlevel. This was more understandable but all the more aggravating because I did a search for the guy's name and he turned out to be a lv. 1 in Outbreak!

I like the "not accepting invites" option, too. Sometimes I won't be looking for a team, but if I get a tell about the missions we'll be doing and like what I hear, I might join. It's good that there's an option for "I don't want a team" instead of simply "I'm not looking for a team" now.

[/ QUOTE ] Seems to me "I'm not looking for a team" and "I don't want a team" mean the same thing and that meaning comes down to "Leave me the hell alone, I don't wanna team"

so I refuse to use the "new" option seeing as how it's not really new at all it's just over complicating a rather simple allready exsisting option.

Besides that if "Not Seeking" isn't enough to keep people away there's allways the /hide command.

On a side note I think insted of adding this completly useless feature they could add something usefull. For example I got a 30 day free trial for Star Wars Galaxies and noticed they have a search option for "Newbie Helper" This would be nice for all the newbies in the game if they ran a search and were able to look for people who are actully willing to help them. (I wouldn't mind putting a newbie helper flag up but I'd take it off for the rest of the week as soon as someone asked me for a PL)

You'd think that. But I can't count the number of times I have seen someone spamming broadcast begging for a team -- while set for "Not looking." Or looked at the search comments and seen "INVITE ME NOW!!!11" -- but when they entered the message, they apparently didn't notice the icon right above it.

Or the recent trend -- "Hey, does your team have room for a <level> <AT>?" "I'm not on a team, and not looking for one, but if you set your icon to 'Looking for missions' instead of 'Not looking,' you might have more luck."

People just don't seem to grasp the LFT system.

no "not looking for team" and "I don't want to team" are subtly different
for example, on my scrapper, I tend to solo, I'm not gonna go hunt down a team on a daily basis, but I'm not anti-team, if someone asks if I want to join a team, I probably will, doe sthis mean to you that I should turn "looking for team" on?

do we need a "not really looking for a team, but might be willing to join one" setting? no, the simple "not looking" setting is fine for that purpose

"Not accepting" will only be something I turn on if I get bombarded by blinds from folks I don't know... and when I set it I'll make my comment "send me a tell"

[/ QUOTE ] The thing about /hide is you may appear to be Offline but that won't prevent you from talking to people in your friends list/SG and it's funny to hear their reactions when they get your tell and see you're offline.

Wanna team?

[censored]?

Wanna Team?

How are you talking? you're not even online!

It's called /hide try it some time

Oh... yeah I'll team.

Allso it helps when your SG is on Team Speak and you can easily tell them "I'm in game, I have hide on, send me an invite."

But hey you have your opinions I have mine and I think this "new" feature is just overcomplicating old features we allready have.

I read search comments so that's one out the window.

Most people, and by most I mean like 90% or more, do not set their flags for the search window simply because they forget or don't know about it. People set to "not seeking" are often very interested in joining a team, that's another gone.

The thing about the request channel really only applies in the hive during a raid...at all other times the request channel is used pretty much as intended or as a way to advertise SGs. Huzzah there goes another one.

Bascially there are TONS of wierd/stupid/ignorant things to list off but the ones you listed are kind of silly and aren't really the ones worth mentioning.

There's nothing confusing or silly about using the request channel for event announcements (like Hive raids). Most of the time, people use broadcast and request as intended, but in special circumstances they take advantage of the request channel's bright purple color. Since this only happens in special events, it doesn't interfere with normal use of the channel. Nothing needs fixing here. I could say similar things about most of your other issues and proposed fixes.
