New Fun Badge Guide

Hiya,

Following loss of my hard drive I've had a lot of free time to update my Supergroup's website.

One thing I've pretty much completed is a practical guide to badge hunting. It only covers villain badges, and the way badges are divided up reflect their difficulty to collect rather than following the order that they get displayed on your Personal Info.

I've thrown in the I7 badges for completion, with as much information and tips on how to actually collect each one as I know at this time. Like all badge guides it's an eternal work in progress, but I don't think I've seen anyone else write a guide quite as user friendly as this one:

Very nicely done!!

I've yet to see a more complete "How-To" list for earning badges than you have there. Great work!

Yay thanks!

Having dragged 3 alts to level 40, I really wanted to write a guide that explained more about how you really earn each badge, and what general order you can be expected to receive them.

The main badge hunting site has dropped its guidance notes, includes Hero badges, and features quite a few mistakes of out of date tips, so I felt people might like a recap of the how-to aspects in order to help with collection.

Seconded, great guide, but I do believe you have the Exploration badge Chum mislabled; you state it as havng a gladiator attached, but on all the toons I have recieved it on I never recieved a gladiator in addition.

Just bugged or is did you mislable it?

Shrouded is replaced by "Shady" in Issue 7, just for correctional purposes

I switched the Glad badge from Chum to Snake Charmer. I believe it's Snake Charmer that awards the Gladiator, not Chum.

Not being online yes due to computer crash this week means I can't check.

Starngely an early version of Vidiotmaps says Charmer gives the badge, but the more recent BW site says it's Chum.

I'll verify later - I am right now downloading the Updater, with 3 hours left until complete ))

SNake Charmer does indeed give you the Cobra gladiator, have that on several toons aswell.

Wow, this is great Very nice layout. Not too crowded, easy to read, and it doesn't make my eyes hurt! I beg that you create a CoH badge listing, because it would be completely, awesomely fantastic, and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Us Heroes would love you for it.

Maybe some day when all 5 of my toons are level 50, carry over 200 badges each, and my SG has over 20 million Prestige THEN I will make a CoH badge guide.

There is some hope, since I do have a level 7 Controller on CoH, who spent some time running around the maps going "ooooh" and "ahhhh" before she was kidnapped by the Vahzilok and turned into my main on CoV. She sometimes visits Pocket D at SG parties.

The overall concept of my main was that eventually when she reached level 50 she would be redeemed and returned to her normal Heroic self, at which point I would swtich over to CoH.

Sadly, I now own alts who run a SG and also want to get to level 50, so my original plans might be slightly delayed.

My question is, whata re the point of badges, what do you do once you collect them, and are they worth collecting?

There really is no point (on the villain side anyway) to collecting badges other than something to do outside of missions.

Currently on the hero side having certain badges unlocks special badges that give you temp powers.

Once you get 'em you read the description, then you sit in awe because you're only lvl 35 but you have all 3 debt badges, after that you sit around and polish them to make 'em all shiny and stuff.

Yaaa Shiny Badges.. I polish them nightly..

Badge collecting on the Hero side, leads to accolades which grants you powers and HP/end enhancements.
Gladiators for arena matches. I thought I was going for the last Accolade, Archmage, now I hear there is an accolade for Taskforce commander or somthing.

Same goes for the Villains accolades when I7 goes live!

Firstly for the OP, the info for the Gangbuster badge is not correct. It's actually Marcone Capos you need to take out. Mook Capos don't give you anything.

Secondly, in reply to Blue_Daze, there are three main reasons for badge collecting in CoV:

1. There are a number of unlockable contacts that will not talk to you unless you have their prequisite badge. Some are really easy such as Henri Dumont requiring Strikebuster or Doc Buzzsaw requiring Bling. Others are much more difficult to get such as the Gangbuster badge for the Slot Machine or the Pirate badge for Veluta Lunata.

2. There will be Accolades after I7 which will require some combination of badges to unlock. These usually grant either a minor HP or Endurance buff permanently or give you access to a useful power with an extremely long recharge. These look to be in the list.

3. Bragging rights. "I have the Capbuster badge on my villain, my OCD is way worse than yours!" Also a good sign of a player who knows what they are doing is to look at their badge list. Only a few? Might be new. About standard? Doesn't mean much. Lots? Probably a player that reads the forums and plays quite a bit.

Right right forgot about the unlockable contacts.

But like your 3rd point states, moreso for bragging rights and to tell what kind of player you're dealing with.

*runs off to add another layer of polish to my badges* Now what did I do with my buffer?
