Drawing for my son

Okay i finished flame... It's just a sketch right now though as i'm in school and don't have the "resources" to fine tune it (ink, etc.). I'm going to make an attempt to color it. But the color one porbably won't be too good so i'll post both the color version and the inked one.

I got bored after i finished so i drew strength too :P.

I'll scan them in when i get home.

Okay, I know others were working on Flame, but I started this the other day and got to finish it today. Here's my version of Flame.

(Not meaning to step on toes here.)

Okay i got bored after i did strength and i did one of morph too. I hope you all don't mind.

So here are the sketches so far, as promised. However, i drew flame a little too light for the scanner to pick up so i'll be going over that one and post it a little bit later.

Here's Morph and Strength.

How do they look?

Edit: forgot to mention that they're on lined paper because when i did them i was in school and didn't have my sketch pad with me.

You realize you're gonna have to post his final comic right?

Gill did some but they're not finalized yet Psi.....but that's if ya wanna jump in his territory.

My son is loving all these pictures so much that any are welcomed. Psi, from the postings you have made in the past you have such a cool grasp on the comic-cartoon that I would love to see something from you. Maybe 'speed' or 'spike'?

I am helping my son get his current story typed and will post that. We are picking up the 'comic book creator' next week and will begin using these images and maybe something from the 'coh' city screenshot to put together the comic.

Thanks again. It has really been great seeing what a great community has to offer. You guys have blown my wife away, she loves it also.

Thanks again,

Static

Oh yeah Psi....completely forgot about spike. He was called earlier but has yet to be posted.

edit: On a side note I just got my project for Lab working!!!!!! Sorry I've spent almost three weeks messing with digital filters to get a wah effect to work....but that means I now have time to color. Woot! Photoshop much more fun that MATLAB

That's just way too amazing. How I wish I had any sort of skill at all. Even if it was just being able to draw something similar to a line. Stupid brain. Kick in, left side!! (that's right, isn't it? Left is "artsy", right is "fartsey"? )

I'm sad Everytime I come to this forum I feel depressed 'cause I can't draw. But I just can't stay away from such incredible art. It's not fair! *cries*

[/ QUOTE ]

heh, your not alone, I love this place for the art, but I can't draw for my life. And I beleive that the right brain is the artsy and the left brain is the fartsy

Any tips pros? Ive tried using sa few books, but none of em help.

P.S. Awsome job guys, CoX really does have the best community

I don't know if you can call me a pro, but i can give you some tips.

Don't use "How to Draw" books (i never did anyway), they don't help IMHO. Just go out to a comic shop and look through some of the books, look for one (or a few) with some poses and a style you might like (perhaps your favorite artist) and take them home (pay for them, of course!) and trace the poses, faces, whatever you'd like to get better at creating. Sort of give yourself "lessons."

After you've traced a few and got a feel for the anatomy and such, try doing some work of your own. Use the books as referance material if you need to.

And, last but not least, always always ALWAYS use your imagination.

Comic books don't make great reference material. Not every comic book artist has a great grasp of anatomy. Also, comics are, by definition, abstracted from reality. You shouldn't let someone else determine your level/style of abstraction, you should do it yourself.

Use anatomy books. Also, Burne Hogarth's books, especially Dynamic Figure Drawing, are excellent. They'll help you learn how to break the shapes down on your own.

(/soapbox on)

I hate to be the wet blanket here, because the work/outpouring of love IS pretty awesome, but why isn't your son doing these drawings himself?

8 is a great age to learn how to draw. This board is filled with people who seemed to have convinced themselves at very early ages that they "can't draw." Everyone can draw. The main difference between people who "can draw" and those who "can't" is generally that the former group started early and the latter group decided that they couldn't. If your son is this interested in comics that he's writing this whole story, I would hate for him to be regretting at 25 that he can't get his ideas out of his head by himself. The people on here that want to draw in their 20s but have never really tried make me kind of sad, because it's an uphill battle for them at this point. Please encourage your son to start early, and remind him that art, like any skill, is 90% practice. Please? Humor the art teacher, would ya?
