New Clockwork Background Section

I'd like to see the "low level" villains fleshed out first. Everybody encounters Hellions, Skulls, and Trolls.

Another good one Arctic. Well written, very informative...and this time, no spoilers.

I especially liked the use of the old article.

Would love to see more references to current players, if possible. Maybe at the end of one of them you could update the story a bit more and include a reference.

Otherwise, nice work. Keep it up.

The old article is actually referenced in the game by several contacts. One of your anti-clockwork contacts was in fact a Hero who lost one of his legs fighting the clockwork king.

Aw, thanks guys, for all the well wishes. Very nice of you.

I'm sure the hardcore criticism will begin again on Monday.

What i don't get is why they decided to make more villain backgrounds NOW that CoV is out. The only background that changed since launch was the 5th to council. Still, i hope they get more villain backgrounds soon. Maybe they will add the praetorians.

[/ QUOTE ]

Um...I think you just answered your own question.

We're adding to them because they are missing from the website, and we would like it to be complete. And fans have reacted pretty positively to learning more about the world of CoH/CoV...

Praetoerians are on my schedule...just not for a little while.

Actually, I'd prefer NOT knowing more about Praetorians. I think this 'villain group' is abyssmally pathetic (and in a few cases, borderline psychotic). Insipid, cliche~, unimaginative and reads as 'filler' content.

In more fact, I'd appreciate a completely tangent story-arc/zone where I don't have to deal with any Praetorians whatsoever.

That's how badly written and conceived I think they are.

If they were fleshed out a bit with a more detailed backstory, you might not feel that way. Hence the intention to flesh them out with a more detailed backstory.

loved the new background story.
the old news clipping really worked nicely.

one nit pick though: in the news clipping shouldn't it refer to Baumton, not Boomtown? just when it refers to the initial clock sightings.

might be just me though.

Great Story! I will never look at Blue Steel the same now....hmmmm....I guess he will use the same excuse Wonder Woman did..

On Various Servers:
Maiden Victory 50 MASD Scrapper
Brazen Prime 41 Fireenergy tank
Lady Stratega 50 FireSS tank
& Tons of other Alts

The news clipping was AFTER the rikiti war. I think.....maby anyways so it was already decimated and thusly deemed Boomtown.

I really liked the article though. The clockwork have always been my favorite enemies. It made me sad when I noticed there was no backround story for the Clocks but now there is. Nicely written and explained.

Very nicely put together. The Clocks have an interesting background and I really dig the old newspaper piece.

Next I'd suggest writing about the thugs in CoH, so everyboy understand the relation between the Superadine people (Skulls and Family under Sebastian Frost, the Trolls and Grendel's fall to Atta) and magically enhanced (Hellions and the Warriors under Odysseus, Outcasts).

A brain in a jar isn't cliché? Robot minions are freakishly original? Welcome to comic books, son. If it's been done, it'll be done again at least twice. Nazis? Cults? Aliens? They're the marshmallows in the cereal of comic book fantasy. The Praetorians are no more ill-conceived than any other group in this game.

I don't see how. Wonder Woman killed a powerful telepath who could control Superman's mind. Blue Steel killed a pre-school telepath who could control some scrapyard robots.

Why wait?

Little nitpick: The background story had a link to a Top Secret Archive. Since when is an article in a public paper a Top Secret Archive?

--------

WRT: Blue Steel... nice to see the members of the chorus get a chance to do a solo. It would be nice to see some of the other 'named' heroes take a turn in the spotlight. For example, during the End-of-Beta Event, we had some members of the Freedom Phalanx which was cool, but than the other player-controlled heroes were Longbow Agents. Would have been nice to use the other named and seldom used heroes such as:

Blue Steel
Coyote
Ghost Falcon
Valkyrie
Mynx
Luminary
Swan
Infernal
Numina
Woodsman
Maj. Richard Flag
Gen. Hammond
Shadowstar
Sunstorm

Some of these would have been more logical than War Witch or Ravenstorm. At least they're alive.

Also, imagine a level 50 monster Kheldian... <shudder>

But that means I was right. Reichsman wasn't in charge, he just liked being top dog. Which means Requiem could be there. I imagine something like Requiem using Reichsman to kill the Center and Requiem assuming complete control. So when Reichsman is released he might be fighting for Requiem...

[/ QUOTE ]

No, no, no. That doesn't mean you were right. Or I was right. Or anything. What we know is that Reichsman was the Nazi version of Statesman, and in his world the Axis defeated the Allies, creating Axis Amerika. Requiem, the Center, the Council, Nictus, SPIDER or Arachnos are all wild shots in the dark for their universe. Considering there's a seperate Council Earth, I would say it's a safe bet that Requiem and the Center didn't exist on Axis Amerika, existed but didn't quarrel, existed and died, or exist and haven't began their bids for power yet.

But either way, no one can be right about something that doesn't exist yet. You can make a decent guess though.

Alright Jack, I accept your surrender.

Alright, but we do know that he is just a Hero (in realitive terms) there. Which means he answers to someone. So sort of Nazi Cabal or more likely just one man. Reichsman probably attacked us thinking we were a serious threat and went through trying to crush us.

So why hasn't anyone come looking for him? Or why hasn't some Amerika Korp troops the 5th recuited (some of those missions must have succeeded) or that are sitting in the Zig looking for him? I mean, Recluse must have released some of them by accident when he broke into the Zig.

Why does he need to asnwer to anyone? Perhaps he killed Hitler, Requim and anyone else who stood in his way and said "I'm in charge, any problems? no? good". Perhaps there were no other superhumans on his planet besides him and as such there were nothing anyone on that Earth could do to stop him? He may simply have moved well beyond Statesman's role and become his worlds Nemesis.

Why didn't anyone come looking for him? Maybe because they are happy to be rid of him (especially the number two guy!).

I'm assuming he answers to someone because he's refered to as a hero on his world. There was probably some super powered genocide, but I think for the most part he's not interested in ruling. Same as our Statesman he supports a system and helps it run while someone else does the acctual ruling. Besides, we don't need another Tyrant.

A week after i put THIS and THIS on my Equinox HC page this comes up? Coincidence? Or VILLAIN CONSPIRACY? Don't look at them heroes! IT'S A TRAP!

EDIT: And also i don't get the point in ruining the story of the villains groups. I suggest redoing the article on The Lost and adding in that they are infact changed by The Rikti and are serving them. So much for nobody knowing who controls the clockwork, evidently they don't read the paper.

Some people like em. I don't. Even a thousand apologists could not change my mind.

I admit to a certain boredom with 'entities from another dimension possessing humans bent on morbid world domination' as well.
