Raid Uniforms v3 - Upsen Downs
My scrapper always wears black and grey to raids with a fairly minimal costume, but then i'm rather partial to those colors anyway IRL. Those and green, but green's not a scrapper raid color.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

I no longer actively encourage it.

It seems to make sense for the lag, but it's not the army, as entertainment folks will do pretty much what they want.
Upsen, how would you feel about Red for a Skranker? It's hard for me to change colors...
Champion-
Flaming Intern/Tanker(main)
The Ice Albatross/Blaster
Apollonius/Controller
Valtrix/Defender
All the tank sets in the Intern variety
Burning Intern/Brute(CoV Main)
And the list goes on...

Red is quite a nice colour, in fact it's my favourite colour. It makes me feel warm inside. That's how I feel about Red.
Upsen.

See, you were wrong X.
Everyone should make note of the accepted guidelines at the very least even if you don't choose a raid costume in-and-of-itself.
This is actually a perma-post...
Back from before we had the graphics/effects surpression option in the grapics settings, we would need to reduce the amount of graphics that displayed, cause often the effects would overload the graphics cards.
However it is still useful today, since it defines easily who is what AT, at a glance, by colour. However I'm pretty sure that this guide has not been followed since 2005 started.
Too many people were going to the raids without uniforms, and the amount of ridiculing the people that did go to the raids with uniforms received, made the whole concept collapse.
It still bugs me to this day that people can't co-operate on this level for a difficult task.
Upsen.
I followed it! Of course people thought I looked like the Gimp from Pulp Fiction
Same here. I modified my original costume to darken all colors to black/grey levels as well.
Most sucky people are just very vocal about being sucky, Upsen. The nice ones don't yell so much.
I just took off my cape and aura...
This was one of those vital ideas, not simply for the suppression of graphics, it's organizational properties were a much needed boon in the early confusing days of raiding. Ups was the progenitor of the idea, thanks Ups.

I still have my gimp raid costume. I was surprised how few people at the raid had costumes the first time I went. And a little disappointed, to be honest.
For all those new to raiding, this is a good thread to follow to help reduce general lag for all those without a $3000 computer. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Ah, Upsen leaves behind a legacy. I vote that Controllers should be encouraged to wear pink uniforms with Cat Ears.
I miss Upsen. No word on if the pink-kitty dude was swayed into trying CoV Beta I assume?
im sry but i dont like this...im NOT wearing purple...it is a stupid color...also if they reduce lag who cares bout color
leadership will be on request whole time so people will know leaders and wont mistake them if they see their names
there u go my thoughts add on to them
Obviously the concept of sucking up one's own personal preferences for the greater good of a common goal is beyond some people, much less how color coding could actually be useful.
The raid uniform was a great idea. It was one of the many novel inventions that led champion into its glory days of raiding. Now, much like the raid uniform, those times are behind us.
As Ace said earlier in the thread, there were quite a few reasons for using this guide, besides just reducing lag when the raids were starting out.
Being able to just glance at a character and know instantly what their role was in the raid was invaluable for organizational purposes. Particularly when you had 200+ heroes all crowded together in such a tight space.
It also helped when you got new ppl joining and could say something like "Oh you're a Blaster? Go find the guys dressed all in red, and do what they do."
As far as what Upsen has been up to lately, I'm sad to say it hasn't been COV Beta.
Upsen is in fact planning to leave COH. Last active day on Upsen's account is Oct 20th.
But never fear, both Kin (who is also retiring) and Upsen will be at the Forum Fwednesday on Oct 19th for one last big blowout with the best server community in COH (and any other MMO for that matter).
Come on down and joins us for one last rampage.
all the color combos and its very confusing in a raid, and sorry Ups, those helmets suck. I personally would recommend for all raiders full black body suit(tights), a top(fullcoverage) in the color of your AT(blaster, controller, tank, scrapper, defender), and then perhaps a chest insignia(since they are large and easily seen)for different types(like kinetic controllers, vs illusions controllers, empaths defenders vs other defenders, etc)
This keeps things simple IMO(I'd be happy to do some examples). Having been to some of the last few raids, I know lag has started to become an issue again and its not just from the numbers of people there but also costumes(capes, auras, spikey bits, etc)

For someone who's a Raid freak you need to learn to go with the flow. I say we just make mesmorizer wear pink and kitty ears form now on or raids are cancelled.

And upsen and kin leaving on the 20th...I guess I'll have to attend my first ever forum friends night tomorrow then to bid them farewell...
For posterity's sake and to keep the Legacy of Upsen alive, I hereby, with the power invested in me, giveth this thread a bumpeth!
I was teasing, Upsen.
Seriously, though, I think it is futile to try to organize more than a handful of people into something like this. I *did* have a proper raiding costume for a while, but the only other person that I saw adhere to this system was Loth. (again, the only person *I* saw. I'm sure there were others, I just didn't see you)
People are just plain lame, and it seems like half the time whenever someone makes some attempt at organization it's only the organized board readers who pay attention anyway, so a lot of work goes to waste. It's a sad truth, and I'm sorry it is so. Thanks for the work, though Upsen. In truth, if people actually stuck to this system, I would be glad to wear hot pink. *shudder*
