A City of Heroes CCG is coming, apparently.
That would be cool. VS vs. Statesman... Wonder what faction he plays...
What VS faction does he play? I will bet you he plays Doom, so he can play Namor...
That or he has proxied Statesman cards
Namor is so broken...
Betcha he would use Doom-8 for the proxy
I can't imagine statesman playing a villain faction. I think hes a superman player. He of course would proxy over superman 8.
Fright, most everyone likes to be a villain sometime
I know (experiance)
That's why the Tyrant and the Reichsman exist. Its for when Statesman wants to be a little evil.
Hmm... What L5R arc did you like best, out of curiosity? I most enjoyed everything between the Day of Thunder and the middle of Jade. I've been unimpressed with everything including and after the Spirit Wars, and in fact stopped playing in early Gold, though I've heard good things about Diamond...
+--Hida Dragonbane--
Unicorn Clan Warlord 2000
The Clan War, mostly for me. Everything leading up to and just a little bit past the Day of Thunder. After that, I liked Hidden Emperor (in hindsight), and a little bit of Diamond. The Gold Arc just didn't do it for me.
I liked the late days of Gold personally, when a corrupt dragon attack deck can actually place in a tourney it's a good thing. Diamond is pretty cool, though, they lost their brand manager Raymond Lau and their lead designer Jeff Alexander. My problem with that is the new brand manager is the same guy that did Game of Thrones which turned out to be a very broken CCG and you can definately see that in some of the new l5r stuff.
I like some of the stories from Diamond and Gold, but it isnt as good as the older stuff. I agree with evil on the new brand manager, he made game of thrones into an extremely broken game and the new set looks like it is going to be overpowered

Hey! Leave my wife out of this!
Curses! Just when I thought I had gotten their tentacles out of me, AEG comes along and does something else utterly awesome. I've been a bit turned off of L5R by the path Diamond has taken, so I'm taking a break from the game right now. Looks like I'll be buying display boxes of AEG products again in November though....
Oh, and as for Statesman: Man, that "soon" business is total Scorpion.
Akodo Tozama
Eep! Dammit, and just when I'd stopped making reflexive cheering noises every time Crabs won a storyline tournament.
Excellent choice, though. Any company that has created such a, well creative organized play system and spawned such loyal legions of fans (Drunken Master L5R, anyone?) is a good home for a CoH CCG. And this is from a guy who's last gaming job was as a minion of WotC, pre-Hasbro-borgification.
Scorpion 4 teh win (guess which clan i play)

The new L5R brand manager is extremely capable of doing his job. Eric Devlin has a ton of experience in the industry, with CCGs specifically, from design to playtesting to competitive play. He does them all well. And to the best of my knowledge, he never worked on Game of Thrones.
As for Jeff, he's still very closely involved with the design of L5R. He's still the lead designer.
Dunno where you got your information, but it's not very accurate.

Diamond as of two sets ago (just after Hidden City), was as balanced as L5R has ever been. Any faction could and DID win some majors. The last two sets were designed to start gearing up the factions for the new focuses for the upcoming Lotus Edition set to debut later this year. Any time that happens, things can get out of whack, but even considering all that the enviroment is still fairly balanced.
Holy moly, I dont know where I got my information. I thought I got it from l5r.com but I just checked again and it is not there. I must be losing my mind, heh. Disregard the foolish things I said...
Though, they are ramping up the power of the cards quite a bit. That much is for certain.

The RPG and the CCG are NOT about trying to make $. Instead, I pushed for both of these products because I knew they'd be cool. Strange, hunh? I'm not just the designer of CoH, but I'm also a fan. And as a fan, I want to see those things

Of course, this attitude is part of the reason why you ARE making $.
So I check the Dev digest this morning as see that there is a CoH TT RPG and CCG comming and I see AEG mentioned.
Oh my heart was aflutter
7th Sea and Lot5R were some of the best fantasy-historical RPG's I've ever played and although they seem to have gone over to the dark side recently (D20 *hock-spit*) The possibility of Roll and Keep CoH Was more joy that I'm used to on a dreary Wednesday.
Then I see that AEG is only involved in the CCG, I keep forgetting that AEG do CCG's too. I geek it almost every traditional field (Programming, Computer gaming, TT wargames, TT RPG, Fantasy art, Anime) but I've never understood the attraction of the CCG thing, I have a solid suspicion that the cards are coated in some kind of addictive contact drug
L5R happens to be among my largest cash drains heh.
Shadowlands for life! (or uh...unlife for the non maho dead folk...)
Guardian Server
Fury 50 NRG/ELC Blaster
Alecto 23 MA/Reg Scrapper
Megarea 22 Ill/Storm Controller
Gloomwave 23 Warshade
Among many others...Part of Guardian's Evolution
G Handle: @Fury. with the period sigh

I love the VS system. Heck, I play every Wednesday night. But we're not looking to duplicate their gameplay or overal system.
We chose AEG because of their dynamite record with card games. I love L5R - and Doomtown is one of the all time greats. I felt most comfortable with the direction that they're taking. Rest assured, we're involved in the process and aren't about to just throw this over the proverbial fence.

So, if you aren't familiar with AEG yet - check 'em out!
See you in Wizard World LA!

Talking about RPGs, I must say that I am a system gamer. Meaning that a game must have a good system for it to work with me. It is why I love Champions and L5R and why I HATE Deadlands. Deadlands had a good story but a awlful, awlful system.
For the CCG it is good to go with AEG. I definitly give it a look.
eh, Table top RPGs, CCGs (I didnt even know what that stood for at first), blah. I could care less. I want to see like mcfarlane grade Statesman, Dr Vahz, Ms Liberty, Dominatrix, etc action figures.
How dumb. Magic (alpha beta and Arabian) was the best card game, and the last.
I wonder if I brought my VS deck down to Wizard World of Statesman would be up for a game or two...
I just wanna be able to say the lead designer from CoH kicked my butt in it hehe
