Good thing I bought World of Warcraft last night. You guys have seriously screwed up a once enjoyable game. I can tell you that I know handfuls of people that are making a mass exodus to other MMOs because of your nerfs and careless afterthoughts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My entire playgroup of ten players, some fourteen accounts (a few of us have two each), have all but stopped playing CoH since the bag-full-of-crap that is Issue 5 hit Test and are playing WoW now, waiting to see what ends up being pushed to Live.

I used to bag on WoW, since the fantasy genre wasn't my first love, but now that I've played it, I'm sorry I didn't start earlier. All but one class in the game, from what I've seen, can solo pretty damn effectively. Only the Druid seems to lack in that area. That amazed me, coming from CoH where soloing all but a few ATs was *painful*. We're all having so much fun, if i5 is even moderately changed from i4 we'll probably all be gone for good. Beyond the ten mentioned above, three of our guys quit completely already.

    .......
Cryptic made CoH, not Guild Wars.
NCSoft is a publisher that publisher both CoH and GW.
I think publishers fund these projects, but I could be wrong.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Correct. NCSoft is the publisher of both of these games. Cryptic is the development studio that made CoH. ArenaNet is the development studio that made Guild Wars. While there may have been some collaboration, in theory, two different companies made CoH and GW.

I find it important to slot at least one accuarcy for the imps. Plus keep in mind that I am backing that up with rad infection, without which I'd be slotting at least 2 accuracy. YMMV.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, going by COH Planner, which may be wrong, it lists Fire Imps as having a +100% accuracy bonus. For that reason, and the fact I also run a fully slotted Tactics, I didn't bother with any +ACC enhancements. My imps don't seem to miss much.
  4. I went 4/2 originally, and found out that door missions were REALLY annoying when there were elevators since I'd tend to finish a level or get close to it before getting 3 full groups out. So I switched over to 3/3, and the extra damage is really paying off.

Oh.. my.. god.. What is next? CoH ring tones? A breackfast ceral? Statesman underwear?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Man, I'd kill...er, I mean arrest...for the Williams Square (FF) music as a ring tone.

For the L5R fans following this thread, I wouldn't sweat the ramp up of power cards too much. Diamond is comming to a close, and Lotus is becomming the main focus. Things have always gotten crazy at the end of an edition's life cycle. The circle of life continues. . . .

    [/ QUOTE ]

Feh. Game shoulda ended, as advertised, at Gencon '97.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope that was sarcasm. If not, it's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. No company is going to spend a year designing a game, only to end it two years after its release. And the STORY, at least that particular one, did end at GenCon 97.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
My question to you would be what kind of complexity are we looking at here on like a Duel Masters(1) to Dune(10) rating scale.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While I haven't seen the design for it yet, I would assume it would be somewhere around a 5, with L5R being about a 7-8, for reference. The new trend in "successful" CCGs seems to be "go with simpler rules, and leave the complexity to the card interactions". I'm chomping at the bit for this.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Hmm... What L5R arc did you like best, out of curiosity? I most enjoyed everything between the Day of Thunder and the middle of Jade. I've been unimpressed with everything including and after the Spirit Wars, and in fact stopped playing in early Gold, though I've heard good things about Diamond...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Diamond as of two sets ago (just after Hidden City), was as balanced as L5R has ever been. Any faction could and DID win some majors. The last two sets were designed to start gearing up the factions for the new focuses for the upcoming Lotus Edition set to debut later this year. Any time that happens, things can get out of whack, but even considering all that the enviroment is still fairly balanced.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I liked the late days of Gold personally, when a corrupt dragon attack deck can actually place in a tourney it's a good thing. Diamond is pretty cool, though, they lost their brand manager Raymond Lau and their lead designer Jeff Alexander. My problem with that is the new brand manager is the same guy that did Game of Thrones which turned out to be a very broken CCG and you can definately see that in some of the new l5r stuff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The new L5R brand manager is extremely capable of doing his job. Eric Devlin has a ton of experience in the industry, with CCGs specifically, from design to playtesting to competitive play. He does them all well. And to the best of my knowledge, he never worked on Game of Thrones.

As for Jeff, he's still very closely involved with the design of L5R. He's still the lead designer.

Dunno where you got your information, but it's not very accurate.
  10. It's only drawback is that it's not a d20 game. I hope the rules are VERY strong, or I doubt the game will do well other than as a story/background resource.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Or maybe if you dont like a part of the game, simply petition for a change. I would think that if enough people want better maps, cryptic will put them in eventually. In the mean time simply learn your zones. it isnt that hard.

Modifying the client should be against the TOS, and should be wiped here on these boards.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um...if Cryptic doesn't want things like map patches in the game, why does the game FACILITATE for its use? The game KNOWS to look in certain directories for player-moded content. Why put in that functionality if you didn't want it to happen?

And as someone else pointed out, if the current game maps weren't so lackluster, map patches wouldn't be necessary.

    Boss Changes

    [ QUOTE ]
Because of your feedback, I'll have someone on our team look at the number of bosses in missions from levels 1 to 50. I don't mind later missions perhaps including a greater % than earlier missions (if only because players are more powerful and have made friends with others), but your posts want me to doublecheck the exact numbers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I posted this idea in another thread, before this one was made, and thought I'd post it again since it's more on-topic.

What is all bosses scaled with level, just like certain power so? I.e., L25 bosses come with a 5% increase to damage and HPs, and it scales up to the rumored 50% at L50? It's amazing how one level's difference from 24 to 25 can get you totally owned.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I killed a +2 boss, and while it certainly took a long time (and half my candy) it was well worth it to see the exp I got from the kill.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but the fight probably took longer right? Have you looked at the xp/minute to see if it's really better in I3? I suspect there's an increase, but not enuf to offset the rampant increase in debt that's a "way of life" now.

Actually, that would be a good way to do the first week of a new patch then thay make sweeping changes to the game. Have no debt for the first week after the patch goes live.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
As concerns the comment about the vocal minority I don't see where you showed us any figures to say the group that wanted more of a challenge was first off even in the minority. Just because you do not like it and a few people who feel the same post on the same thread does not make your view the majority view.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The population of the forums is but a fraction of overall player subscriptions. By the definition of the word, that's a MINORITY. A fraction of those people wanted the game harder. So it's even smaller. A minority of the minority.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Actually, if a boss will appear in a mission, the mission briefing mentions it. Check the text.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If it's a NAMED boss it does that. I.e., "Defeat So-and-so and his crew", etc. Generic bosses are not indicated in ANY way they'll be encountered in a mission. Plus, missions are STILL constantly spawning +1, and now sometimes even +2 mobs. Try soloing one of those missions, or even duoing without a legitimate damage dealer around, or a dedicated bubbler/empath.

Yeah, the game's challenging. But it first and foremost should be fun. Life's challenging and frustrating enough for me to have to worry about frustration and disgust while playing a game I use routinely to ESCAPE the life.

You should see her play Counter-Strike and Warcraft III.

    Now you're just bragging!
