Wonderful, Wise, Winza's guide to binds!
[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I rebind all of my inspiration keys and all of the HUD keys a-purpose, because I never use the keyboard for those things and I don't want to be able to do them by accident. I can't imagine a situation in which I'd need to change my HUD so fast that I couldn't use a single mouse click.
As far as "do not touch" goes, you should never rebind the middle mouse button to anything you'll want to hold down for, such as jump or forward. Holding it down engages the swivel camera regardless of what's bound to the key. Similarly, ESC is the standard "unqueue" key, which frees whatever is bound to that key; rebinding that means that to a power means that you have a tossup as to whether the power tries to execute and then unqueues, or vice versa.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do the same thing. I reformated all the Function keys to different binds. to what i find more convenient F1 Run, F2 Ready, F3 Battle Cry, F4 End Rest, F5 rotating Taunts. F6 Target is here. F7 blank, F8 Congratulations, F9- F12 costume changes.
my number pad numpad1 - numpad8 each changes my rotating binds to a different bind, so i can switch from "a few of my favorite things, to the monkeys, or gilligans island, Jingles, etc... I just keep pressing the F5 key until the song is over then select a new numpad key to start a different song. I put the music notes in them so I sing everything.

Personally I loathe using the mouse and only do so when I'm forced to (glowies, doors, cancelling OK windows, etc).
I'd have to get back on my main computer to get a copy of my bind list (at work now--Money is good) but the basic adjustments I usually make are something like this...
Numpad1 - Zoom Out
Numpad2 - CamReset$$CamDist 25
Numpad3 - Zoom In
Numpad4 - Strafe Left
Numpad5 - Backward
Numpad6 - Strafe Right
Numpad7 - Turn Left
Numpad8 - Forward
Numpad9 - Turn Right
Numpad0 - Target Next Enemy
NumpadEnter - Target Next Friend
Numpad/ - Look Down
Numpad* - Look Up
Numpad- - Down while Flying
Numpad+ - Jump or Autorun+Autojump for Hurdlers/ Superjumpers
NumLock - Toggle the Chat, Tray, Nav and Target windows (Especially useful while teleporting)
~ - Toggle Travel Power
Shift+Fkeys - Emotes if I have room
Scroll - Manage (enhancement screen)
Those are just my quality of life binds. Without them, playing CoH drives me insane. Depending ont he character's AT, travel power(s) and tactics I end up monkeying with the rest of the keyboard with various binds and chord binds as I need 'em. Superjumpering Scrappers are generally pretty bind light while Flying Blasters tend to get pretty involved, but only because I like to make my aerial combat as grceful as possible.

Thanks so much for this thread... I am really fuzzy on how binds work and this has helped a lot. And no I'm not dead
Thanks for the link on Why Nerfing is Good, I don't think I would've looked at them that way without hands on developer experience or a much more varied group of games. In fact some of the major threads that I've been looking at lately deal directly with the I5 nerf issues, it seems to me the thing about this game is that they do try and fix things that are broken.
Anyway it was definately an interesting bit of information that made me think about the subject from a different angle... Thank you.
I'm so happy all of you fellow bindsters are posting here now, I want to see more opinions and suggestions on binding as well as the questions, this is bloody great!
btw, coming soon... once I figure out how to put a downloadable file in a post... My secret bind files!
I completely suck at binds so please forgive me. I've never made a single one since I started playing this game. I played EQ for 4 years before this though and I was the macro hotkey champ.
What I need to find out how to do is set up a bind key that will let me start a chat and automatically put in /send (insert channel name here) and then i can just start typing after that
Example: /send Inf Badge Seeker
I need it so that the example above pops up when I hit whatever bind key I choose and then after I hit that bind key I can just start typing away. Thanks for any help in advance.

I have been playing CoH for a long time now, and I've never posted. This thread, thanks to Winza is one of the most informative on these forums. The complete lack of scripting support by the administrative community leaves a HUGE gap in bind and macro documentation. Winza you fill that gap. You have done an amazing job at providing support for an element of the game that NCSoft has implemented, yet not documented. Thank you a ton for that!
Well, I finally figured out the first bind problem I was having (/bind numpad7 beginchat /send "Inf Badge Seeker") so that's all settled. Now, I'm trying to figure out why this one I'm trying to make won't work.
/bind Shift+F1 "unselect$$ team_select 1$$ powexec_name Heal Other"
is it just because I can't make Shift+F1 a bind key? or am I doing something totally wrong?

and now for a real question... *cracks neck... cracks knuckles*
you made a mistake in the bind... remember that bind commands run backwards, meaning if you have a bind setup like the following...
/bind key "action 3$$ action 2$$ action 1"
that'll be how the bind activates, so you unselect at the right time, but you try to heal BEFORE you target your team mate, so just reverse them like this...
/bind Shift+F1 "unselect$$ powexec_name Heal Other$$ team_select 1"
that way you target your pal, then heal, then unselect...
that's all for now, I'm rather tired, so I'm sorry about the sloppy post, heh... oh, and I also have other cool stuff in the mix, but you'd have to hang with me on justice to find out
hehe, thanks hun, gonna log on and try it like that now. and im currently debating on starting a new character from scratch somewhere so i'll probably come do it there, /grin

if they do run backwards like you say then I think a better bind would be this.
/bind Shift+F1 "$$powexec_name Heal Other$$team_select 1$$unselect "
unselecting anyone or anything you have selected then selecting team member 1 then heal. I might have to try them both and the old one to see which works best.

hey winza i wanan make my blaster do inferno and change to costume 3 but it switches too fast is there any way to make liek a pause so inferno goes off first waits a sec then changes costume
[/ QUOTE ]
Beginning a bind with + makes it run once when you press the key and again when you release it. If you can make the bind activate inferno when you press the key and change costumes when you release it you can manage the timing yourself.
Create these files:
inferno1.txt
[ QUOTE ]
i "+ $$powexec_name Inferno$$bind_load_file c:\binds\inferno2.txt"
[/ QUOTE ]
inferno2.txt
[ QUOTE ]
i "+ $$cc 3$$bind_load_file c:\binds\inferno1.txt"
[/ QUOTE ]
Substitute file paths and keys as required.
Then enter the command /bind_load_file c:\binds\inferno1.txt You now should be able to press i (or the key of your choice) and begin Inferno, then release it and begin a costume change.
Hello,
Got a quick question about macroing. Got a Kinetic Defender and I like to buff with Increase Density and Speed Boost a lot. Is there a way to make one macro that will use both powers? I have a macro for Increase Densisty that say "Take that $target!" when it is applied since the hero you use it on looks like he took a hit. I would like to do a macro that say Take that $target! (buffs with ID) and then goes And that! (buffs with SB)
I personally shy away from trying to use two powers in one key... the only ones that can really work that way are things like sprint, combat jump, super jump and super speed. They work due to NO activation time, the kinetics powers all have that activation time (the only reason they aren't PERFECT, I love kinetics)... that's why you need to make either 2 keys for it, or make one key and the other shift+key, know what I mean?
And wow, thank you ALL for posting, I want more people who know binds to post here too, the more of us that help others, the better in my opinion.
Till I return, happy heroing
Hey, bind lovers!
I've been on a psudo-vacation of sorts, so I've been out of this forum for a while, but I'm back and more then willing to continue answering your questions about binds!
Also, for any and all people who know a lot about binds like me, my "Winza's School Of Binds" is looking for teachers on the Justice Server! So anyone who'd like to join the craziest bind master in the shards and help spread the buttery love of binding, look for Winza Nakimaru (my scrapper on Justice) for any and all info regarding the SG.
Thank you for helping me keep this guide alive with your questions, answers, utilities and what have you. It means a lot to me and everyone who looks at this guide. Maybe we can make this thing big enough to convince the Devs to finally make an official bind guide... heh...
ANYWAY! Here is what I will call my bind of the week from now on... This will be where I post an interesting, weird, funny or usefull bind/macro that catches my eye when I play with other people.
This is a combo bind, it has a power component, an emote text and color bubble changes (yes, they work on emote text too!)
/bind i "powexec_name Touch Of Fear$$ e <color red><bgcolor darkorange><border yellow>$name reaches into $target's mind and forces out $target's worst nightmare!"
Try it with other powers, try variations, and if you have any interesting binds that can be a one shot, or easily explained, post them here, I want people to see how much fun this stuff is!
wow nice post master jedi of binds/macros?
Only problem is I have adult ADD and this will take a week to read but very nice and well writtin
ps Seeing as I am dark armor scrapper and have like a million shield combos depending on who i am fighting or what i am doing is there a way to have one bind/macro to activate all of em
so far, what I know is that more then one power in a bind makes ONLY one trigger, however, I do have a macro I can offer to disable them for traveling...
/macro OFF "powexec_toggleoff (toggle name here)$$ powexec_toggleoff (toggle name here)$$ powexec_toggleoff (toggle name here)"
or however many toggles you have...
that should turn them all off at the same time, it does for my stone tank
Thank allot
I probably missed this if it was mentioned somewhere further up in the thread, but do you have any suggestions for a bind/macro to cast two bubbles/sonic buffs on a teammate? I believe I saw mention of one in another post where holding down the key activated one power, releasing it activated the other. I realize that having two powers activated in one bind somehow makes only one of the powers activate, but any ideas? Or any FFers/Sonics out there with a nifty bind to buff? Thanks and great guide Winza!
Pengy put it better (a few posts up)

Also, a post from Positron in regards to making binds/macros for Masterminds and their pets
[ QUOTE ]
The commands (which should show up with /cmdlist) are:
/petcom (your current pet)
/petcom_name (name matching pet)
/petcom_pow (power matching pet)
/petcom_all (all pets)
/petsay
/petsay_pow
/petsay_name
/petsay_all
Each of the petcom commands can be followed by one stance and/or one command. That probably sounds complicated so here are some examples:
/petcom passive (tell current pet to be passive)
/petcom_name "zombie 2" dismiss (tell "zombie 2" to leave)
/petcom_pow Protector attack aggressive (tell all pets created by "Protector Bots" to attack your target and be aggressive)
/petcom_all goto defensive (tell all pets to goto a spot and be defensive)
FYI: All of the words after the command, the game will search for a best match, so you don't have to type in the full words:
/bind mbutton petcom_name zom att def
That would bind a command to the middle mouse button to make all pets with name starting with "zom", in this case zombies, attack and be defensive.
The petsay commands work the same way, but will allow you to have your pet say something:
/petsay_all <em praise>You are the greatest!
That will make your Henchmen bow and worship you.
