Billing
hello?
I'd just like to start off by saying that you expecting a response literally two minutes after you posted makes you appear extremely ignorant and naive, and you should have patience. With that said, Statesman said that the billing decisions will be left up to another department. He said he would like to see it increased so that CoV can have its own development team. I believe he said he would like to make it $20 a month for those who have both games. Hope this helps.
Yes, there are people out here. But no, we're not built to serve you and don't check the boards every thirty seconds just to reply to your question, which has been asked a zillion times already.
That's what minions in game are for.
/rant. Epiphoid's mostly right - it was a Lord Recluse comment, not Statesman, who specified he'd like to see a raise to maybe eightteen or twenty dollars, but again, the billing plans have not been worked out yet. If it's not necessary to raise the cost, IE there would be no improvement to the game from it, or it would be a diminishing return -- they won't.
Please, when asking about topics which may have occurred to other people (e.g. Anything not real-hero-of-genius level), use the search button at the top of the page to see if it's been asked already.
I did see somewhere that they were thinking that the monthly fee covers all, regardless of if you own CoH or Cov or Both. Now as far as raising the fee? I have not heard that, but I could understand if they do. It would help to prevent a degredation of either product.
Here was what was being said prior to update 2:

GD: There's also the City of Villains expansion...
JE: That's due out next year. Obviously, you get to be the bad guy, and it's going to be when we introduce PvP (player versus player) on a large scale in the city. We'll probably be introducing it in an arena sooner than you think... but basically, it's where players get to be a supervillain.
GD: Is it an entirely different game?
JE: This is one for the business guys, but let me tell you how I want to design it: It's going to be a standalone game, so you can buy City of Villains and play it and interact with the players in City of Heroes, but you just can't be a hero -- you can't build a hero and you can't go through the hero track. It's one subscription fee -- $14.95 a month regardless of whether you have City of Heroes, City of Villains, or both.
GD: And that'll all be in the same world?
JE: We'll be opening up new areas of the world that you won't be able to get to unless you own City of Villains.

And post-I2, Gaffer commented not on the likelihood, but the rationale for slightly raising the monthly fee, while he quashed the rumor that keeping both CoH and CoV active at the same time would double the fee. This post is quoted and linked in a follow-up post I put in the '2005 Primer on CoV' thread. I believe Lord Recluse also commented along the same lines in an interview a couple of months ago.
The crux of the decision seems to hinge on what will happen to the scope of future content updates after CoV's release. Will the CoH and CoV updates be seperate? Combined? And how big will they be? What will the output schedule for the this update scenario, or that one? These questions would be easier if CoV were merely a paid expansion for CoH. However, because of the standalone nature of CoV, Cryptic/NCSoft potentially have 2 seperate playerbases to satisfy. Reading the forum, you can already see indications of how a cultural divide would develop.
I'm sure the companies will be looking hard at the pre-order and initial launch numbers for CoV to get some indication of what kind of content update structure they can sustain.
Poor Clintonian, no one ever reads your primer.
Okay, I'm a villain, but I don't believe I ever said I'd like to see an increase in the sub rate. I have no idea what the plans are although many things have been discussed.
As I have said, this is a decision that involves NCSoft and not Cryptic alone.
Hey! That's not evil at all!
I say we abandon our former dark lord Recluse and follow someone REALLY evil. Like... I dunno, Bill Gates or something.

You mean the evil man that donated so much money to charity, it literally pushed him off top spot on the "richest men in the world list" and keeps on giving to the extent that he outnumbers sums that entire nations give away for the purpose of charity? Also, the evil fiend who created(or had major part in creating) the operating system that allows us to play CoH?
Not so evil-looking now is he... You want pure evil? Go get that mean british American Idol judge... He's overdue for followers.. ^^

While Gaffer has made it clear on several occasions that he likee the monee in general , Lord_Recluse hasn't given detail on his perspective on this question.
When I get the time, I'll put this into the recreational queue of my Search-Fu machine.

Silly me... I forgot the natural order of things... Rich person = Evil and "the truth is out there".
Don't know if this is still relavent or not, and I'm sure it's subject to change, but many moons ago States said that though you would have to purchase CoV as a separte game and would pay for it at the same rate if you only had Cov, if you had CoH and CoV you would only be billed one rate. That was the plan then, who knows what will happen once it goes live, but I'm REALLY hoping that's how they treat it, like a full priced expansion pack for those of us that own the original game.
One $14.99/mo fee, please!

Agreed! I think the extra $50 for CoV and the ONGOING rip off of $15 a month (which I happily get my wife to pay) is enough money to take from your loyal fans.
I'd love to play CoV, but if it's $50 *PLUS* a higher monthly fee, then it probably won't fit into our family budget. It's difficult enough to convince my wife that CoH is worth the monthly cost when it's "just a video game" and i could always go back to UT, which is free.

Can't let a Bill defense slip by, sorry for the thread jack . . . Loved the Joker reference. The joker and Bill might be pretty comparible if not for the fact that 1)the joker is insaine 2)the joker has intelligent creative plans 3)the Joker's plans are thwarted by active competition/adversity not his own incompetance
Check this out if you think Bill is charitible. Facts about Bill
And games that play on both Windows and Linux (Unreal Tournament 2003) run better under Linux on the same box. (OK, only tested on my one machine, but I'm a tech and both sytems were up to date driver wise, using the hardware I wanted, not purchased for Linux compatability) I wonder if we would need daily downtime if the servers were on a *nix OS. . .
Back to the thread . . . I think double woulf be too much, the smae price would be awssome, but I could handle 20/month I guess. We shall see what happens.

I'm going to try and avoid hi-jacking the thread as best as I can as well.. ;P My apologies to the OP.
I liked the Joker-reference as well.. As much as I did the Family Guy satire personalization of Bill Gates. And you're right, those are facts, only very angled that prove nothing more than the fact that Bill Gates is a businessman, and that Microsoft is a large company. And they simply work this way, like all other companies (slight generalization).
And although some programs may run better on different operating systems, I dare say that Unix/Linux is hardly as userfriendly as the Windows software. Not everyone is a technician nor should you have to be in order to use a computer. Not to say that I must be pleased with the fact that XP Professional is seemingly my only option of a userfriendly operating system or the way Windows dominate the market.
Anyhoo, this is still hi-jacking on my part and there's lot more to add to such a discussion (on both our parts I reckon)... ;P It can go on for quite a while too so I'll just put and end to it's public appearance here for my own part. I'd love to discuss it further though but send a PM for that instead...
I did promise not to hi-jack the thread any further didn't I? ;P

Then again, have we ever seen Gaffer and Lord_Recluse post at the same time?
Maybe they are the same person!?! Maybe their different RL legal names are just another ruse to misdirect and discombobulate us?!? Maybe if we put on special polarized glasses we can see that mind-jamming signals have been hiding the fact that resentful undead have taken over the CoV team and are plotting our subjugation!?! Oh the humanity!
Ah! I knew I was right...
I forgot my tinfoil hat this morning, but since have found it again and thus am now again in agreement with you.
My guess would be a 3-6 extra dollar charge. Which of course is a -save- from 15 bucks in total. Of course I'm hoping for 0 extra charge. But I'm a optimist at heart.. you know, past all the black crusty goo covering the light.
What i want to know is it going to be a seperate billing or an expansion is what they should have done. cryptic studios isnt always thinking but whatever makes them money i guess. [color=green]

sorry if this seems like spam to anybody but do we have to pay for a COH account and a COV account?
