Heh...best "easter egg" type command I've seen was in Earth & Beyond...if you typed /camp, you'd get a system message saying "Insufficient marshmallows to camp"....kind of a dig at EQ, me thinks

Correct! Arucard from Hellsing, one of my favorite anime series of all time.

The name from the manga and anime is pronounced "Alucard," but the Japanese alphabet does not have an L (when translated). The letter R is the closest letter translation. Or so I'm told.

...wow, I couldn't be more off topic if I tried. Sorry.

Rrrgh...Spell Alucard backwards, darn it! Alucard is the *correct* spelling, as the most famous vampire of all time is not *Dracura*!

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you, captain obvious. Do you really think anyone here is stupid enough to not realize that Alucard is Dracula backwards? I did not come up with the name nor the translation. My avatar is the character from the show, and in the show it is spelled with an r. I saw no reason to change it, no matter what the pronunciation.

He's also not basing himself on Alucard from the Castlevania series, Kosh. He's based on Arucard from Hellsing, and he's using the name as it is used in the translations of the series. So really, the whole "Backward Dracula" thing doesen't work here.

Actually it does since the only reason the character is named Arucard is because just like in Castlevania they wanted to be cute and spell Dracula backwards. The reason it's an "r" instead of an "l" is strictly due to the translator's discretion.

But I took the anime from the anime with an "r." Now we're just splitting hairs. Simply put: I like the anime series. Though I understand that it was not translated perfectly, the spelling in the show is with an r. Thus I made my name Arucard instead of Alucard, although they are pronounced the same. I'm sorry if this really bothers anyone, but I just thought I would go with the anime spelling.

This reminds me of an old, old game I used to play where one of the major enemies was a vampire named "Arkad".

Years later, I had a look at the original Japanese kana, and yes, it was Aryukaado.

Wasn't a very good game, mind.

Kosh, it's an anime reference, thus filtered both thru the Japanese' unique cultural take on things, and their phonetics.
It is not a reference to Son Of Dracula, in which Lon Chaney, Jr. played Alucard. In Hellsing, it is indeed Arucard (the English dubs do reset it to Alucard).

It is generally unfortunate for English F/SF purists to encounter the anime view of their old favorites. I had to be given heroic doses of single malt scotch (in the absence of fayalin) to recover the first time I saw the anime version of Lensman.

While we're talking about friends -

It'd be nice if devs fixed it where if you're teaming with people from your friends list it would not spam that they are online everytime you zone or go through a door. I know they're frickin online, we're teamed! Hello!

This is not a big deal with 1 firend online, but when there are 6 or more of them I have to scroll up to see what we just did or said (people often chat when missions are complete of course) because of all the clutter in the chat window. Yes, I can customize to not see friends, but I want to know who might have logged on. With it showing everyone or if I make it not show anyone, I may or would miss the new guy.

BTW: Thanks a ton devs - looks like you fixed the issue with missions not always showing or no longer showing when you zone. I know I complained about that one. My supergroup is very happy about that one.

Likewise this is not earth shattering, but annoying and likely fixable and the "Hello!" and the like was meant as humor, not an insult to our helpful devs.

I like living in Japan, it rules, anyone jealous??? and by the way Alucard sounds about right but i can see where the Arucard comes from because my name is Colby but most japanese people pronounce it Corby.
