Travel Powers & Role Playing
My natural character whom I RP with.. well, she's kinda not exactly really human, so well.. she can have travle powers
Just a matter of imagination.....
Flight - jet packs, etc
Super Jump - jump packs, web-swinging, etc.
Super Speed - motorbike, etc
Teleport - teleporter operator from orbiting satellite
Did you use Swift+Hurdle+Sprint?
I use a 'Sprint on while moving/Off when still' bind, coupled with a Powexec_name Sprint toggle bound to R (to correct errors induced while zoning or mezzed). This, in my mind, reduces the End cost of Spint, so if I didn't feel the need for an End reducer in Sprint then I can put in a RunSpeed enhancer instead.
And since Swift and Hurdle is on the road to Stamina, I see no problem with taking them. The Fitness pool feels very natural to me, as it is easily explainable by your character working out a lot.
I applaud your patience to stick with a concept you feel strongly about, despite it not being considered 'optimum' by some people.
On my scrapper I've done much the same as you have, Ivory, however, I don't know if you use combat jump in addition to the fitness pool and sprint. I actually also use the stealth and invisibility powers as they fit with the ninja theme I have for him, so I can go places that I normally shouldn't. It is actually a lot of fun finding out exactly where you can go with just those powers, even though it does take a little longer to do.

I'm a lvl 50 natural AR/DEV that has never taken a travel power and never will

Your a better person than i am 5 stars for you.
I don't claim to have any hardcore "natural" characters - but I know one who's a good friend of mine. He's lev42 last I looked, greatly slowed because he can't play at all while in college, only during breaks.
Matches Returns
I have Sprint slotted with 2 running enhancements and 2 jumping enhancements. Swift and Hurdle have 1 enhancement each. All single origin btw. To tell you the truth I actually move faster than most fliers (boy do they get freaked out when they see me move lol). I move fast enough where 2 players with Fly respeced it out just because they refused to move slower than a player with no travel power lol. I actually raced another player from the Perez Park gate in Steel Canyon to the Icon in Steel ...hehe ...boy was he unhappy when i beat him with enough time to pull out the old newspaper emote lol!
Dr. M. is 47 now, and he's never had a major travel power-- like others who've posted here, he just has swift, sprint, and hurdle. Have sprint four-slotted for running, too (I'm not absolutely certain the last one does anything).
It's easy to call on people to use their imagination, and as it happens, I'm natively a tabletop RPGer, not an MMOer, and moreover, I have imagination.
The game is substantially a visual escapade, however. I have hasten, and all four fitness powers, and could readily replace swift with SS. Moving that fast, with no visual cue other than sparkly ground, is just pushing suspension of disbelief too far, because the game's so visual. Sure I could tell people "it's my motorcycle, vroom vroom," but I doubt I have to add any more vrooms to make it apparent how distractingly silly that is. Not to mention disappointing when in fact a visible motorcycle is EXACTLY what I want.
Anyway, yeah, it's not that big a hassle, and I move pretty darned fast, all things considered.
Another great thing about it is, it weeds out a few folks who're the charge-ahead-at-any-cost type players-- debt magnets who's "playstyle" is so dangerous and hard to control for that I really just don't want to play with them anyhow.
Don't believe the critics. Characters without SS/SJ/Fly/TP are fine.

I gotta agree with you Ivory. My character is basically made of living stone (he was used as a guinea pig by the 5th Column to see if they could convert a carbon-based lifeform to a silicon-based one), so the Travel Powers never fit into my concept.
Flight? What am I, made of Helium?
Teleport? I'm a Private Eye, not Captain Kirk from the Starship Enterprise.
Superspeed? Since when did you ever see this ability linked to rock and stone?
SuperLeap. Well..I can leap OFF tall buildings and leave a nice big crater, but as I weigh so much more than normal, even my Superstrength can't do much to compensate for it.
So, on the very verge of 50, I have never had a 'Travel Power.' And I get the same kind of comments you must as well. "What, you have no travel power?"
Some nice side benefits...
I make my allies who have Recall Friend feel useful when I am around...(I may not have teleport, but I have no scruples about using the teleports of my allies)
I,like you, get to see the city in greater detail than those who just whisk from point A to Point B. I have been able to aid other heroes in extremis that I might have missed if I were at cruising altitude far above the city...
It made moving around in the Shadow Shard a challenge/game all its own. I have managed to plot out the path all the way to the great and mysterious Storm Palace itself using nothing but the Gravity Geysers.
And it has made getting some of the Exploration Badges a bit...challenging. I do have Hurdle, with 2 enhancements (I DO work out after all) But getting the Ace Badge was a little more memorable becuase I had to plot a way to get up the giant statue, which ain't easy...
I, like you, WILL pick up a Super Vehicle ifn they ever put them out. Something in a nice White Sports Sedan (with a few added 'touches', heh)
So don't feel alone there Ivory. Us true characters support you...
Sam Granite - The Liberty League (Protector)
I just started a alt, and her (yes her.. dont start ) concept is all about being as natural as possible. To that end I too see no travel power that fits well, so I intend not to take one.
I know I get the mik taken out of me (I do mean you LB ) but I want to have atleast one hero you I can truely say would work in the real world

Metaforces is an entire Army SG with no travel powers. However, we do have transporation droids who use recall to bring troops to the battlefield. And one of us is always willing to log on with their droid and help out. Still, it's fun to see four or five riflemen firing in unison with one droid watching over them.
Good Comment! The choice to make life harder to keep in character is a tough one, but I respect it. Mostly likely you need to team with people who can teleport or group Fly or things. It is personally not for me, because I enjoy going solo sometimes. It brings me to discuss a point regarding capes. My main is a succubus character if you will. Instead of cape, I would like her to have wings, but I cannot get wings. I see some "robots" and battle armor suits where a cape just looks, well, stupid. A jet pack or "jet boots" would make more sense. Capes should have more options to fit the roles characters need. A natural could use a glider, motorcycle, vehicles, etc... Capes look foolish on some characters, so I would suggest that these sorts of capes, or powers be added. If you choose SS, they could allow you to choose whether it is via foot (the flash), or via Vehicle (car or motorcycle). Flight could offer one wings. How many angels do you see running around with the same stupid helmet? How many demons have no wings. Teleporters could have little devices in their hands. It is nit picky, but I think it would enhance gameplay. Also naturals could use vehicles and such to get around. I do not have Recall Friend, and I have teamed with a Natural Scrapper who stayed in role and would not get a travel power. It was a pain to deal with at times, because I would start mishes without him, and he would complain about not getting mish XP. Well, I was not gonna wait 15 minutes for someone to show up. I respect the choice completely however, but it is not for me. Well, if the developers read this, there is some consideration for Issue 4 one day. Wings & vehicles.
I read alot about natural origin role players not wanting to take travel powers and how frustrating it gets not to have them ....well ....I'm a lvl 50 natural AR/DEV that has never taken a travel power and never will (unless they add in vehicles or jet packs). And no i wasn't power-leveled either. Personally i enjoyed it ...I got a better few of the city and have a pretty good grasp of where and what is going on in the city streets. Was it hard at times? Yes but it was a personal challenge and i met it! So for all the other naturals out there - Don't lose hope of leveling or if its possible to go without a travel power because it is and its fun. And to all the people that try and bother you about not having one - don't let it get to you, just have fun because its not impossible to play without one just more challenging. Good luck to you all!
