Dev's Please please Let us abandon missions
God yes.
Excellent suggestion. Should be implemented asap.
Absolutely. I don't care if there are penalties or anything, there are just some missions I want plain gone. And I understand you can't exactly do that wtih Story Arcs or a TF, but for normal missions it'd be appreciated.
Even with a story arc, you should be able to cancel the mission and pick it up from your contact again later. I'd understand if timed missions couldn't be abandoned, but the timer shouldn't continue to count down while you're logged out/disconnected.
I agree. But if you've already started the mission, see if you can get a high level to go in with you. They will be all grey to him or her and they can do it quickly.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
We've been asking for this since beta. Good luck getting someone to listen to you.

I also had this same problem with a bugged CoT mission a few weeks ago. All I wanted was a GM to delete the mission but they couldn't after 5 or 6 trys. They finally help we complete the mission. At that time I suggested to let us delete unwanted missions. Many other MMORPG's allow you to delete missions. I'm now very careful when selecting missions. I hate some of the CoT missions and very rarely take them now.
I was actually in need of this last night. *laughs* Had three missions and a few friends who wanted to run the cape mission, could I do it for the cape? Nope, too many missions and not enough time to get them all done before hand. I vote to be able to abandon missions! *raises her hand high*
AGREED....either that or get a level of in-game support that is acceptable, 12 hours is NOT an acceptable response time!!!
And this high level player will be able to pull the mob out of the wall for you?

I've never had to wait 12 hours, but then experiences my very. *shrug*
I agree, but would also like a better accepting process. A few times I have grabbed a mission either not realizing it is timed, or not realizing that it is too much for me at the moment (since the actual objective isn't spelled out). I would love to see an optionm, maybe only good for 1-2min, to say, "geez...can I do this just a little later? really, I got a cape at the dry cleaners, and they lock the door at 5..."
It would also be just plain helpful to get the actual objective from the contact ("do you mean get all artifacts, or get them *and* everyone there?").
This would be a good thing.
This morning, at 19th level, I am done with all but one of my contacts, and the new contacts won't give me anything until I hit level 20. So I went to this one contact and got a mission; went to the mission; entered; prepped for battle; only to be faced with level 14 Vazhilok. I've already finished the vazh story arc, so I really had no reason to do this mission, and got no xp due to their level, but had to finish it so I could clear it out of my queue. Granted, it didn't take long, but it was still frustrating to have to go thru it just to clear it.
I know, I could have done the Exemplar thing, but I just wanted to clear it out and be done with it. I don't like to team for only one mission unless absolutely necessary. Besides, it would most likely take longer to get the help (not a ton of level 14ish people in KR) than it did to just do it.
Just another reason to be able to clear a mission from our queue.

Maybe, lol. I've seen it happen with Teleport Foe and Taunt. Not trying to start an argument here, I was just offering some self-help remedies.

I've actually had to summon pets INTO a wall to kill a Carnie Illusionist stuck in the ceiling. Fun times.
To the OP, GREAT suggestion. I'd love to see this implemented.
I remember when we asked for this constantly since beta, not even 1 response from a dev.

Sometimes.
Teleport foe will usually be able to pull them out.
I also have a PBAoE power (Lightning Field) that allows me to stand beside the bad guy that's stuck in the wall and beat him that way. I've used the power this way a few times.
Agreed. This has been very high on my wishlist for months; I just got tired of posting about it.
I want to be able to dump missions that are:
1) In a Hazard Zone I can't get into for 2 or 3 levels, which is a significant amount of time when you need 150-200K to level. (Or at least a warning about this so you can choose a different mission from a different contact.)
2) Timed when I didn't want them to be. Not always a problem via contacts, since they either tell you outright or the hint is broad enough, but have had a large number of timed missions that pop up as soon as you finish the previous one in your story arc. (Alternatively, have the timer run only for gametime rather than real time, because sometimes I just don't have the ability to do three or four missions in a row.)
3) Bugged missions. This is a biggie. Tired of carryong around missions I can't complete.

This is to suggest that the Devs gives us the ability to abandon a mission if we need to. I have been playing for two days now and I can get rid of this one mission. It is bugged and I can't finish it. I don't care if I don't get the mission xp bonus, and I have petitioned a GM and waited and waited. The last time over 2 and a half hours. I just want to clear the mission from my Missions.
Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

I'd prefer them to fix the bugs that make missions fail (Mobs in walls).
Put in an option to cancel and it just gives people a way to artificially advance a story arc.

Hehe, the times used be on the order of 30 mins, but since the patch...
Anyway, I think that GM time is first-come first-served, just as it should be. You can get up to 3 missions at once, but you don't HAVE to!
Pick your missions carefully and ALWAYS leave a slot open
I wouldn't hold my breath.
I bet the devs are thinking that if they allow cancellations, that players would just cancel out of any mission that had something they don't like. (Villain group X, More than one boss, Archvillains.) I don't like it, but I understand it.

And this is bad for the game... why?
Let's understand this... Players might (gasp!) cancel out of missions that are NOT FUN? Well we can't have that! This is a game. What in the world do they expect it to be FUN for?
No, this is a poor reason to be unable to abort. The only reason anyone would abort a mission is if for one reason or another the mission became non-fun. Aborting sure wouldn't help you "grind" xp faster, so I can't see the powergamers doing it. And as to being able to "pick and choose" what mobs you fight, we can ALREADY do that. I already refuse to accept any missions or do any story arcs with Devouring Earth in them because either they are bugged (auto-hits vs. SR) or they just have too high an ACC bonus to make fighting them even remotely reasonable. Nothing can MAKE me take a DE mission. Heck I can even take one, group with someone who likes DE, let them solo the mission for me, and get the credit without "firing a shot." So how does letting me go "oops I did not realize this was a DE mission -- I'd like to drop it please and never do it again" harm anyone or anything at all? Because I can cherry-pick my enemies? Everyone who street levels does this already. I guarantee almost every level 50 who got there by hunting (and not PLing in the train station) got there by picking and choosing wisely which enemies to fight and which NOT to fight. I do not see how giving mission-runners the same flexibility would hurt anything at all. IMO, it can only make the game better.

Well no lets look at this from a hero's point of view....lets say abandoning a mission comes with a penalty, either influence or xp for ... "loss of courageousness" or something...just to balance it out and prevent folks from quitting missions for bad reasons....I'm sure a group of folks stuck because of some baddies fell into a stairwell and you can't kill them cos no one on your team has AoE would be more than willing to take a slight hit to move past or get out of the mish...but may not be so likely to do so just because the conditions are... adverse
/SIGNED!
After playing the WoW stress test and seeing how they manage quests, I honestly can't understand why we're:
a) only limited to 3 active missions, and
b) can't 'abandon' them if we choose so we can move on to others
Update 3 maybe?

I would be willing to take an influence loss to get rid of a mission I don't want. That's a good idea, since it would prevent people from doing things willy-nilly. Perhaps also have it be exponential if you do it multiple times in a row... That is, you lose X influence the first time... if you take and immediately abandon a second mission (without successfully doing another one in-between) you lose 2X influence... and so on. This way people won't take-abandon-take-abandon for some stupid reason... but if you truly get into a bad situation losing say an SO worth of influence to get rid of it is well worth it.
