    Chat Channels?

Thanks for the info. I'm really new to this, so how do I figure out who the moderator is and how can I send the a pm?

    Chat Channels?

Yes, I have a stupid question, what are the "common" global channels? I remember reading about a TF channel, but can't remember what it was.
  3. I got my main scrapper (Kat/SR) to lvl 50 and since got quite a case of altitis. I knew I would eventually like to get around to playing a controller and I guess that time is now. I am confused though, what might make a good build that can solo pretty well. I like teams, but my playtime can be interupted often which is rough on teams (I hate being the guy who has to "brb" more than once in a mission), so I play mostly solo.
From what I've read, plant seems to be a decent solo build (I was eyeballing plant/rad). Any suggestions?

    FM/WP I give up

Thanks for the feedback, never even thought about using Brawl for Kin Combat, what a knucklehead I am. Also like the idea of dropping GFS for confront (Mocking Beratement does a few things for my build and it's a lot cheaper). Wow, after looking at this, I might have to rethink my entire build.
Well, I guess that was the point. This guy's only lvl 30 and haven't even bought an entire set yet so......back to the drawing board.

    FM/WP I give up

Sorry for the hopeless sounding title I'm really just tired of looking at my build for my FM/WP. I wanted to create a build to run the scorch attack chain and have great survivability. I believe I created a build that does that:

I'm wondering if the sacrifice of 3.75% s/l def is worth it. Anyhow, like I said, I can't look at anymore. Anyone have any advice? Or, if someone just has a much better build that accomplishes my goals, even better.
  6. Wow, I guess I'm not doing enough marketeering. I don't get a lot of playtime (10-15 hrs a week), and prefer to play (rather than market) most of the time. I usually do some marketeering the first and last 15 min I'm logged in. Taking out the two big drops I got (that sold for over 200 mil collectively), I'd say I average about 30-40mil/week.

I must have done something wrong because I could not get the story arc until I completed the defeat 50 mission. I had a choice between that and generic door missions. I did quite a few of the door missions, but did not get the Find Ellie mission. After getting (and eventually dropping) the defeat 50 mission I got Find Ellie, go figure.
I appreciate all the info here, I'm gonna take a break from this for awhile and play one of my alts today, since I have the day off (yee-ha). Maybe I'll revisit in a couple days when I will again have option to drop mission.
  8. Holy crap, finishing this mission yields a defeat 65 Carnie mission. Is this the absolute worst story arc in the game?
  9. Well, sadly, the next step (or the next, next step) in the mission chain was a find the hidden entrance mission (another that falls into the 5-10% category in my mind). So I page a GM and 30 min later I start the next mission. I do love this game, but will always be puzzled why they do so much SO WELL, but then do the rest so poorly.
Anyhow, bottom line is that I would not recommend the Harvey Maylor story arc.
  10. I was gonna try to tough it out, but I think your advice was best. I dropped it and moving on to next task. It's a shame really. 90-95% of the time this game is hands-down the best MMO I've ever played with great game mechanics, content, support, etc. Then 5-10% of the time they have missions like this that you find in crappy time-sync MMOs. Oh well, just have to focus on the 90-95% (and be happy the good FAR outweighs the bad).
  11. Anyone have any advice for finding Carnies in Peregrine? I have the mission from Harvey Maylor to defeat 50. It says to look around Poseidon Square and Mera Heights. I haven't had much luck, just spent 1/2 hr looking around and have killed a grand total of 12. At this rate the mission is gonna take over 2 hrs and be painfully boring.

    Better Option

Well, I'm always open to help with build, so here it is. Fury, I'm not looking for Hecatomb dmg/rch because it's going in GC along with AH.

    Better Option

I've recently hit 50 and have stuff I'd like to do with my Kat/SR, but want to figure out the best option. The first thing I want to do is finish my build. Initially, I figured I'd just finish the story arc I have and then work on accolades (for +health, +end). However, I also wanted to do some AE stuff (haven't touched it other than the tutorial).
So, being an engineer kinda person, I'm wondering which is the more efficient way completing my build: work on accolades (basically do what I have been doing selling drops/marketeering for inf) or doing AE missions and bronze rolls for stuff to sell (I've heard bronze is the way to go, so if there's a better way please let me know)?
BTW, not sure this matters, but I saved the most expensive stuff for last on my build (of course). So I need four more LoTGs +rech (almost have enough to get another one) and five Hecatombs (all but dmg/rch). I have no expectations of this happening overnight (or even getting it done in a couple weeks) just wanted to do it efficiently.
  14. Also, as someone pointed out to me when I had this problem, you can petition a GM (not in game right now, but under menu I believe there is just an option 'petition') for help. I hate "needle in a haystack" type stuff like this, others don't care and some deranged (j/k) people like it. Luckily, there's not nearly as much of it in this game as in others I've played. The other one you will come across from time to time is finding the "last dude" on a "kill all" map. That one will probably require a GM if you can't find the guy.
  15. On the two chars I play most (my Kat/SR and FM/WP scrappers) I have focused mainly on getting as many recipe drops as possible. So I start at -1 xwhatever and try to get to -1x8. Then I usually try 0x4 to test the waters, again, trying to get to 0x8. That's where I've stopped at this point in my relatively short CoH career. I want to get as many drops at my current level (or better) as possible.
I'm guessing this will change with some other chars I've made but hardly played (like my MA/Regen scrapper) that don't handle lots of MOBs very well.

The "haflway" point to the lvl cap in terms of xp seems to be 44-45. But, is it really that much more xp going from 45-50 with the amount you get from mobs also increasing? I'm sure the ratio gets more out of line but it doesn't seem like it would take all that much longer.

I'm not concerned one way or the other, if I wanted a toon to lvl 50 that I wouldn't have two in the mid 30s right now lol and a gagillion alts in the teens. Just curious.
This is kinda tough to say as there are a lot of variables to levelling (AT, build, diff settings, etc.). I will say, as someone who did not put a lot of focus on xp, that things slow down significantly in the 40s. My goal was to get the mission difficulty settings to 0x8 to max the number of drops. I wasn't able (or I guess didn't really try) to do this until I was in the low 40s (I think it was lvl 42). So I was fighting "more guys" when the xp slowed down I still say it was much slower.
If I were to put some numbers on it, I'd say up to 40 (maybe high 30s) I would gain a level about once per 1-3 missions. That number increased until, I would guess around mid 40s, I was doing about 3-6 missions to get a level. Those are some REAL ballpark figures and based on mostly soloing door missions.

    lvl 50 content

As a relatively new player who just got his first char to 50, I can say that I feel like I have plenty to do. I still have IO sets I need to complete my build, accolades I'd like to get and missions I'd like to try (via flashback). If I get bored with all that, I've yet to do anything with AE so I might give that a whirl. Although there may not be definitive tasks, like raiding to get loot, there's just too much content to "complete" by lvl 50.
  18. Since I believe all scrappers have deep-seated anger issues, I cast my vote for Jerk-off by Tool.

    Timed Missions

Good to know about the Praetorian arc mission. I guess I'm with you Werner. As much as I hate to see the big red words "Mission failed" on my screen, my top priority is drops. So I'll just have to deal with the occasional failure.
Also, because I just can't let it go, why in the heck do they put a hidden entrance mission on a timer? I don't remember the name of the mission (I'm horrible at remembering mission names), but the location is under the city in Brickstown. You have to take a narrow ramp down near the science store. I don't think I could have found that in 60 days much less 60 min. Ok, I'm done complaining, I think.
  20. OK, good to know. I do find the text to be misleading but I'll just have to get over it. Thanks for the info.
  21. Does this badge actually do anything? The text reads, "You have learned enough from fighting the Illusionists of the Carnival of Shadows to know the real from the fake". I was excited when I got it because I thought it would affect either the number of decoy phantasms, fake illusionists, or fake damage I take from illusionists. After fighting a boatload more Carnies, I've noticed nothing. I don't really mind if it's just a "way to go you defeated 100 illusionists" badge, but the text seems misleading.

    Timed Missions

    *rant warning*
I had a rare opportunity to play last night (I usually only get to play on weekends or later in the week) and perhaps I shouldn't have played. I did a couple of missions from Harvey Maylor and got quite annoyed. Both missions were timed missions.
The first involved the sewers in Brickstown. I had an hour and after 20 mins of not finding the entrance, I paged a GM (I have to ask why in the world would you put a "hidden entrance" mission on a timer, really). Luckily I got a quick response and completed the mission with less than 10 min to spare.
The second was a "hop on the train/special zone" mission requiring me to defeat all. I believe the timer was 90 min and even though it was a small map, with 0x8 settings, I ran out of time.
While it does feel good to just complain that I think both these missions(and let me go ahead and throw in the final mission in the Crimson story arc that I barely finished in time) suck simply because they are on a timer, I do have a question. When it comes to timed missions, do you lower your difficulty settings to make sure you can complete in time? I've noticed with the higher level timed missions I run low on time.
  23. good deal, I guess I'll just stick with my build unless I see a real need to make another one - thx.
  24. I'm curious if my other /SR brothers created an alternate exemplar build. I didn't plan on using my Kat/SR to exemplar below 40 at all (so he is designed to completely fall apart below lvl 40). However, I noticed one of the accolades I'd like to get, TF Commander, is going to require a significant amount of time spent below lvl 40.
I tried making a cheap build (in mids) that got me high def, but unless I sacrifice primary powers it tends to fall apart in the mid 30s (basically when I would lose weave). Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
And, yes, I did have way too much free time at work today.
  25. OK, I'm sold. I guess I'll be moving my guy tonight.
