  1. The same reason you have to do a flip when using elude. Also a good way to be ignored for a min or two, except from stalkers.
  2. I would change a few things up. Your DDR is only at 91%, I'd get it to 95. The FF proc is awesome, but I wouldn't put it in a single target attack.

I'd get rid of Parry unless you really want it, and if so you could open up your slotting alot by counting on its defense bonus to get your melee up. Having it and the 45% melee defense already is really over kill, and just hurts DPS.

Made a few changes, got the DDR up almost to 95%. You can really open up a lot of slotting options just buy getting close to 50% enhancement on your toggles, build below is 47.2 melee from just adding one more slot.

The good, or maybe bad thing, is there are a million different ways to do about the same thing. I've only been using mids for a few months and love it also. I know people will tell you 6 slotting lotg is overkill, but it kept me from chasing 3 more def set bonuses on my ma/sr to get it over 45%. Unless you plan on putting purple sets in his attacks, id slot them with mako's, touch of deaths, and obliterations to get your set bonuses.
  3. Like Tek said, I think more direction on what your gonna be doing. If farming 5 slotting aegis in your shields goes a long way toward getting you fire def to 32.5, which is what i did on my ss/fa, one small purp and im fine, no need to waste time healing.

Is it a pvp build maybe? Purps are good, don't get me wrong, but a lot of builds don't really need them. They are good for the 10% recharge bonus and dam/rech numbers, but their acc and definatly their end redux could be a lot better.

If its an over all general use build, id try and get to 32.5% to all, or 45 to s/l. This should cover you for most content I would imagine, since /fire has good resists and a killer heal.
  4. Yeah im kind of torn between conserved power and focused accuracy. Both of them would be situational, as I won't be running FA all the time. I guess it comes down to which one would i encounter more, -recovery and sapping(that would get past softcap) and to hit debuffs, or hard targets for that matter.

Thanks for the notes. I'll prob end up 2 slotting numi in aid self then for the nice regen bonus.

And to the OP, I pretty much put your build in a blender with Bass's, threw in a lil of my ideas, and got my build, so thanks to you too.

I would just put some hami's in AD like someone else said, and switch the steadfast proc with the resist IO in true grit, gets another percent or so of resist out of it. Not really a big deal but helps a bit. You do'nt get as good resist out of OwtS that way though, but I generally don't use it too much.

My guy is a hair under 40, got his rularuu sword, and one mroe ITF and his nictus shield will be equiped.
  5. Did anyone have a chance to critique my build any? Here is the latest minor revisions...

He is 47% melee, 45.1% ranged and aoe, with spiritual alpha. Once tier 4 is obtained I think he will have a decent chain just using hack, disembowel and headsplitter, although I might have to throw a slice in there, do'nt know from looking at numbers.

I've also thrown around the idea of using parry for melee defense, which would probably allow me to slot for more recharge. The only thing about this is that melee set bonuses seem the easiest for me to get with obilts and touch of deaths. I love the oblit set so do'nt mind 6 slotting it, and am also glad I didn't have to use any ToDs. My DDR is at almost 90%, with a 10 second period where its only 60 some, so thats pretty good I guess.

Please any notes would be awesome.

  6. Hello,

Since the last patch or so, around a week or so, water effects are flashy. I've been running on high on both environmental reflections and water effects since ultra mode came out. I turned water down to medium quality, and it fixed the flashing although it now looks as if there isn't any water.

Any pointers for fixing this, as I like the pretty water.
  7. Sorry to repost after my own, but 3 slotting pounding slugfest into hack will take care of my defense. 47 melee and 45.1 to ranged and aoe. AD has a 10 second lapse from being double stacked, I think. End looks decent I guess.

Two things I could use a hand improving, while keeping softcapped:
Recharge could be a bit better, although I think with spiritual it might be enough to get a good attack chain out of my attacks

Slotting for aid self and heal other could be better. Prob wo'nt use either that much really, and with spiritual the heal part is already partially enhanced.

    Any notes would be appreciated.
  8. I am loving your builds doc and bass. I'm trying to get one similiar to doc's, with aid other/self/rez, and also either conserve power or FA and physical perfection. I think with PP, with a Perf shifter proc in it, I'd be able to go spiritual and not have to worry about end problems as much, and get more rech in my heavy hitters. The build im posting is a work in progress, so be gentle, but critique please. Its close to the def softcap. It doesn't have as much rech as either yours. I dropped an attack, but figure I can use slice when needed to fill wholes in the chain, maybe. I'm doing the same thing as doc with the medicine pool and no travel, although I will cheat with a jetpack when needed tho. Ideally I would like to be 45% to def positions, and have some more recharge in there, while keeping the same power picks, or close to them. Also, I'm trying to stay away from purples/pvps as of right now. After I get an initial build maybe a while from now i'll purp/pvp him out for better maximum slotting.

    Any notes would be awsome

  9. I am actually in the process (currently 35) of making just about the same toon, but from an old school Final Fantasy reference/take on the Paladin instead of WoW, although probably similiar I imagine. Haven't made a build but i was going for the medicine pool as well and using ninja run.

Its fun as heck, and i plan on lookin at both of your builds for ideas. I'll probably take all the attacks and weed out parry and maybe one other once he hits 50.

Also, what kind of recharge is required to have AD perma double? I was plannin on slotting 3 of the def/rech hamis in it, but not taking hasten. Probably going with cardiac, although spiritual seems alright, and have been toying around with one that boosts defense for easier IO'ing.

Also, also, tried to copy paste a pic of my guy but coudln't get it working right.
  10. how is this build going for you bass

I just rolled a bs/sd and lookin for inspirations
  11. Thanks for the builds, definatly some comparisons to look at there. Big thing I noticed was the glad proc, which alone costs enough to IO out several other characters. Well see on that one, whether I like the toon enough to drop that on him.

Also, I quite enjoy Shadow Maul, especially on a set that has no aoe ( not counting the two aoe buffs, which are on quite long timers)
  12. And also, I would think dark/wp has a lot of synergy. Dark to hit debuffs stack with RttC, and dark has a heal to help with the regen of wp. I see how dark/sd might be better, and I might try that instead really, the idea of soul drain and AAO together seems cool.
  13. K thanks for posting your builds. I didn't take CJ because I was planning on running beast run all the time, and it and CJ don't like eachother. That is also why the energy mastery, although its a nice side effect that they require no slots, and take the perf shifter procs.

This one is tweaked a lot using some of your ideas. I'm really close to s/l cap without using the glad +def. The regen took a hit but not too much I do'nt think.

  14. EC increases the crit chance of your MA attacks only.

I dont know how it affects damage auras and such that might get a tic in before your next attack

PvP i do'nt know, but I think same as pve

Yes, although pve its best to use dragon's tail after EC if a lot around, or your next best attack from MA that is up depending on what your using in your chain.
  15. Yeah, ill probably switch those slots if nothing else, however I'd like to slot them both really, but unsure where to steal from. Also, its a final build, I'll probably just run SOs on the way to 50 to see it play out, although ill get some of the procs as they become available and/or drop.
  16. theheat

    Ss/fa?

my ss/fa is just a farmer, but i went energy, and put 3 perf shifter procs in him. no end issues whatsoever, and heath still has 2 empty slots for the numi/miracle procs. I like having jab for an attack to keep using if the rest are recharging though, but probably not really needed. Temp protection is good if ur gonna fire farm.
  17. Your really close to being softcapped to ranged as well, which will help you from getting held a lot and helps a lot for my build I've found. Here is my cold/rad/mace build for your consideration. Benumb/heat loss/hasten/pet are all pretty close (4-6 seconds i think) from being perma, no purps/pvps so if budget allows you could get there.

  18. Below is an initial build I have going for my new dark/wp brute. Several things, I'm gonna use beast run so no travel. I tried to overslot for end mod so I can run beast run all the time. I was trying to get as much defense as I could to most things. S/L is a lil lower than I'd like, but that is where my highest resist is, but also most of the def debuffs. I tried to get as many recharge bonuses without sacrificing defense at the same time. It seems pretty well rounded with layered defenses in def/resist/healing. Accuracy seems on the low side as well. Midnight grasp is underslotted I know, but I'm debating on not taking it for theme reasons.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Also, if anybody has a good dark/wp build laying around I'd appreciate it to compare as well, first time IO'n either of these sets.

  19. Here is my cold/rad. Thanks to some help from the forums, was pretty easy to make with no purps/pvps. I'm sure given the investement, or more tweaking, benumb could be perma'd. Currently it is 1.5 seconds short of perma. And not using purples is by my own design for budget reasons. Someone using purples and/or pvp IOs could get a lot better numbers than this build I'm sure. I would also argue that sleet stops a lot more incoming damage than people think, just from running, slipping, and slows (which stack with snow storm).

I think cold is mroe versitile than rad. I know I would rather have a good cold than a good rad on my team.

Yes, stacking def on a lot of high end builds is over kill sometimes, but I think your forgetting that a lot of builds are only softcapped to 2-4 types, or one position, not everything, and the added defense can make them softcapped to everything, if not close to it.

  20. I have to throw my vote at cold. My cold/rad/mace (leadership too) has it all but a heal. In teams, I think if your keeping up your shields (I'm softcapped to s/l/e/ranged so not having them isn't that big of a deal) and your slows, you won't need a heal in most content. Apex tf comes to mind though.

When looking at a build with perma, or near perma PA, saying cold has good debuffs, but suffers from long recharge on the powers, is kinda not fair. My current build has overlapping sleet, and almost perma benumb and heat loss. This is also with no purples and softcapped s/l/e/ranged, so I'm sure a no budget build could get these perma with the glad+def and a purp set or two, but I was building for a budget with no purps/pvp ios. Adding def to the team is always better than healing if you ask me, and hard targets fall quick, so the need for sustained healing becomes less of an issue. With shields, AA, maneuvers (def numbers), thats quite a bit of added defense to the team, along with some resists. Sleet is an amazing power, with slows, -def, -resist, knock down (or up not sure which one it classifies as).

The /rad blast pairs well with this in my opinion. 2 achilles procs, one in sleet and one in neutrino bolt (half second recharge on my current build) means hard targets are getting the -res debuff, on top of at sleet and/or heat loss. Cosmic burst adds a reliable stun, with spiritual alpha, can reliably stack very easily. ST hold from mace and a pet in my build, although others could take the aoe immob as well. The pet mace has greatly increases solo speed/effectiveness. I generally don't solo much if at all, but for H merits the pet definatly increases speed, and he is almost perma'd as well (9 sec downtime on my current build). And you can of course ice the pet up, which makes him a lot more sturdy.

For me, this is my most team friendly, help us succeed no matter what, does it all toon.

Cold/sonic would probably be better for all around utility, witht he sleep and -resist and all that I would suppose though. But I hate the cones from sonic for some reason.

I would, however, say that it is hard to argue against a kheld being the most versatile. A really good kheld, especially one with 2-3 builds available, is really, really tough to argue isn't capable of doing anything the team needs. There are a couple really strong ones floating around on freedom that I team with from time to time that are really strong. I, personally, cannot stand khelds, have tried pbs twice now, and ws once. I can't get past the not having mez protection. Just ruins it for me.

My main, ma/sr, is highly versatile I would say as well. Just in that he can ST or AOE kill stuff, has a ranged attack on super low recharge, and a st hold. He is perfect for LGTF hami, and helps on hami raids. I have aid other and rez as well, although both are unslotted. With 172% global recharge they are up a lot though if needed. I would say that debuffing health is the best debuff out there. Mostly kidding, but he comes in handy while on teams being able to rez, and fill in aoe damage holes if needed, and drops bosses quick, and has stacking stuns, and a good mitigating aoe in DR.

To the OP, I would say that ill/rad is very, very versatile. Is a Mind/cold troller more versitile. Or a ill/cold maybe?

I will agree with at least one of you all that a perma dom mind/whatever can do some just plain silly things. Plant trollers (or doms) have a whole lot of options.

FF has a lot of tools that most probably never even try out, but no debuffs really, but a good FF with all the powers can be extremely versatile. When you are softcapping your team and adding mez protection, a heal is generally never missed.

Really a hard question to answer I guess after my ramblings, but my cold/rad is my most versatile
  21. my main is ma/sr, or id roll a ma/sd. My next scrap will prob be bs/sd.

One thing that might be helpful for him, and my in the future really, is what recharge is nessessary to get AD doubled and cap your DDR? Having this would, for me, determine what kind of attack chain to have, to be at least equal to or greater this number for recharge. I do'nt think its very high, but having a gap in it can be a real pain on an ITF.
  22. Wow, very informative post/responses. I had always knew they helped, but I cussed them a lot of times, and now that I think about it, it was when against AVs and such, so makes sense. Also, I had no idea that there was no psi/toxic, which really kinda pisses me off, and SR is supposed to be good against all attacks "your weakness is your oponents accuracy" or whatever the description says (I know not to go by those in general cause of errors and what not, just sayin). My MA/SR has 10% toxic and 15% to psi through set bonuses, more from 6 slotting some purps and lotgs. I know some of those are overslotted, but to reduce to 4 slotting of the lotgs, i would have to get set bonues to be over 45.

The fact that the passives don't offer toxic and psi upsets me is that I would get the same benefit to psi as I would to s/l (tough is only slotted with steadfast, glad, and a hami) and almost as much from toxic.

How can an oversite that is this far back dated not been corrected by now??????

I used to love focus - strike - air superiority - slash (something like that, i deleted my claws/regen at least a year ago). He was my second scrap and was pretty fun leveling. I don't remember the exact combo but it had a whole lot of knock up in it and kept me from having to heal against bosses.

Yeah sorry about my first part, i thought you were talking about just kinetic melee really.

MA/SR - ST - Eagle's Claw - Storm Kick - Cobra Strike - Storm Kick repeat (heca 6 in storm kick) - Not the best dps I hear, but the way storm kick follow's ealgle's claw just flows so well, then cobra from storm also. Have always hated crippling axe kick animation, looks like he is knighting someone with his foot instead of a sword, and the newish punch i do'nt really like, and since cobra strike got buffed i got out of crane kick, and haven't really missed the kb at all.

Big groups - Eagle's Claw - Dragon's Tail - Fireball - Storm Kick (there is a slight pause before every other fireball) Dragon's tail rains crits, and tail, fireball and storm kick all have purple sets in them, for nice proc hits. Being able to crit with fireball makes it seem like less of a power on a blaster and has ruined it for my fire/fire blaster.

My newest project is an invul/elec tank, and I'm wonderin what his final chain will look like when he is all slotted up. I'm really suprised that no or not many elec/sd posted, as that is probably 25% of scrap/shields I see on teams, if not more than 25%.

I tried my best to get into kinetic melee, played a toon all double xp weekend, from 1 to low 40s, and the powers animations just got to me. I really liked the first three attacks, but the ranged one and CS just really got on my nerves. I felt like a brute chasing fury while playing him, more than a scrapper.

Aside from my main, all other scraps I just start with my favorite power and use the other attacks until it is recharged. Although EC is my fav MA power, so maybe I do it with all toons.

I had a DB/WP scrap for a while, and I did BF - attack vitats - 1 thousand cuts. There might have been some gaps in there, can't remember. He was all SOs, think I might have had to put 2 rech in one of the powers, can't really remember. I liked it a lot. 1 thousand cuts is a lot of fun, but after a while I found myself trying to line up cones all the time, and not my style on a scrapper, or any toon really I guess, but thats just me.

The rumor is its getting nerfed soon. I think maybe just CS, but who knows. Its on test but it apparently keeps changing numbers wise. When it hits though I would expect 90% of melee toons in RV to go from KM to whatever else is fotm in pvp. Maybe they will only lower it in pvp and not pve, but who knows really.

I only bring this up because you might want to wait to spend a lot of money on recharge sets for a chain, and it changes later.
