Just finally started using mids. This is my first attempt at broadsword/super reflex scrapper. I could use some help. Any suggestions?

The defense soft cap is 45%. I don't feel like explaining it, so look for Arcanaville's guide to defense or read about it on Paragon Wiki. Basically, you are wasting slots and INF by going far past 45%. For the rare situations where enemies have higher to-hit, you have Elude or you can use inspirations. If you think you need a buffer to absorb debuffs, you need to realize that SR has 95% defense debuff resistance just by slotting your powers. That means you can basically ignore debuffs.

Auto powers probably don't need more than 2 defense IOs.

The PvP IOs you have (3% defense and 3% resistance) will cost you about 6 billion. What is your budget for this build?

Slot Tough for resistance and endurance. It should not be neglected because it will reduce most damage that gets through your defenses.

Weave and Combat Jumping are over-slotted.

Hasten would be good to use.

Aid Self is useful because SR lacks healing.

Is Fly a must-have for you? It is the slowest travel power and you don't get as useful of powers in the pool as the Leaping and Speed pools. Jetpacks are only 10k INF in Firebase Zulu and last 2 hours of use. Also, do you have the 60-month veteran badge that allows you to take a travel power without taking another power in the pool?

If your next build attempt doesn't come out as good I will try to post one to get you started on the right track.

Thanks for the tips Syntax. For some reason I was under the impression the soft cap was 85, no clue where I got that from.

To answer your questions Fly is a must for concept reasons, I do have the 60 month vet reward and I dont really have a budget. The higher cost just gives me more reason to play.

Again thanks for your tips, guess it's back to the drawing board.

Your second build is quite confusing. The trick to softcapping defense is to stack bonuses with any defenses your powersets give. Using Kinetic Combats to get melee defense is silly as you can get the melee defense of 2 sets of kinetic combat from just 1 full set of Touch of Death. Also, with SR you should start stacking your defense by properly slotting your toggles and passives. Your end use is ridiculous. Having knockback protection IOs is completely unnecessary unless you're trying to get all the bonuses from its set.

I redid your build a little bit. Reordered a few powers but completely reslotted it. Included the some purples, too. There are other slotting arrangements to maintain softcap (without needing the Nerve Alpha slot) and not gimp your build, but this one is pretty simple, imo.

If you were dedicated to Nerve, then stick with it... but the build i'm suggesting will allow you to use other Alpha trees if you so choose.

Thanks Infini, this helps alot!

One day I will get a hang of mids and the art of builds. Until then it's good to know we have a great in game comunity and helpful players like yourself.

I would change a few things up. Your DDR is only at 91%, I'd get it to 95. The FF proc is awesome, but I wouldn't put it in a single target attack.

I'd get rid of Parry unless you really want it, and if so you could open up your slotting alot by counting on its defense bonus to get your melee up. Having it and the 45% melee defense already is really over kill, and just hurts DPS.

Made a few changes, got the DDR up almost to 95%. You can really open up a lot of slotting options just buy getting close to 50% enhancement on your toggles, build below is 47.2 melee from just adding one more slot.

The good, or maybe bad thing, is there are a million different ways to do about the same thing. I've only been using mids for a few months and love it also. I know people will tell you 6 slotting lotg is overkill, but it kept me from chasing 3 more def set bonuses on my ma/sr to get it over 45%. Unless you plan on putting purple sets in his attacks, id slot them with mako's, touch of deaths, and obliterations to get your set bonuses.

Doh I completely failed to realize Parry becomes unnecessary with softcapped defenses. I'll echo what theheat said about opening up your build by dropping Parry. Also the procs I put in the attacks are totally interchangeable with whatever you'd like to put in.

BTW, theheat, I didn't see a link or chunk to the build you revised.

Hack > Slash. Take it first. Just sayin'.

Also you probably don't need both -- especially not with parry too. If you don't plan to parry regularly, having both may have value. If you do plan on parry in your regular attack chain, there's no reason to have slash.

If you're just doing parry for the elude crash (that's the T9 right?)... I'm not sure that's worth it, but hey, to each their own.
