Teleport beacons for all CoH zones?

Yes. It's in our internal QA right now, making sure they all work right. (So it's a patch or three away from the Training Room server).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fantastic!!! Now open bases up to those who do not have CoV and we have ourselves a winner.

So they will use this to entice back long lost players...that we can't get ahold of because they disappeared off our global lists.

This is the compensation they promised us for that. However the press releases make it sound like some big special event. I think Cryptic should have owned up to their mistake and admitted they were doing it for a major error on their part. Cryptic is taking this and spinning it into a marketing ploy for themselves. As a business guy, I can respect that. As a player, I'm disgusted by it.

The first test of the XP doubling showed up on the Test Server before the global crash, Issue 7 and the layoffs by NCSoft. They had to be planning this long before these errors occured.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then they are taking a previously planned event and just wrapping our "compensation" into it too. Either way you look at it, it's bogus.

And yes Cuppa confirmed yesterday that influence and prestige will be doubled as well.

  4. That's awesome you guys did it.

What I'm concerned about is that it took 5 ice corrs with kin or debufs to do it. What are the chances for getting on teams with builds like that? Looks like Stalkers and Doms could be left out on this very easily. With the devs putting together a mission like this that requires specific powers and builds, all they are doing is promoting discrimination against the builds that don't meet that. At least ANYONE can participate in a Hami raid.

Then there is talk of another retail box. Which brings it's own set of questions. Will it feature SG items that members can only access with the new box ala bases? That was the worst idea ever and lead to many players I know quitting because they didn't want to be a villain. And speaking of bases, another poster was correct, they are next to useless. The teleporters are nice, but we STILL haven't got the IoPs and all the other stuff that was promised with them when they first came out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, City of is the first MMO ever to release expansions which must be purchased in order to access additional content. Content which other members of your SG/VG (aka "guild") cannot access themselves if they have not purchased said expansion. Even if they didn't want to play any of the new races or classes, but simply wanted access to the new zones. How dare Cryptic do this unheard of thing, which no other game community has ever been forced to endure.

    /setmode_sarcasm 0

    [/ QUOTE ]

So just because one mmorpg does a crappy idea, Cryptic should follow suit? Your powers of common sense are overwhelming. The bases were introduced and have served little purpose. Their main function of base raids has been negated by the fact that they can't even get the trial up to get the IoPs. And the little benefit of places to TP to requires both games to use. Which makes no sense for a hero SG to have to have a villain game to use their hero SG base.

And for those saying wait and see before making comments, you don't need to wait and see what hasn't been done in two years. In two years we have had 3 zones at least that were useless in CoH. And the "possible" redoing of these zones(assuming these are the zones that get redone) doesn't look to be till 2007. So 3 years of zones that serve no purpose. Fantastic.

Right now according to this address we are getting two updates including I-7 this year. With how long I-7 has taken and that statement, it will be closer to the end of the year for I-8. That means it will be OVER a year before any additional content was added to the CoH side short of some costume and PvP options. And we wanna applaud the devs for this?

I look at this address and see it for what it is, fewer updates per year. A long stretch of time for CoH content. And future paid expansions. And people are thanking the devs for offering us less. So I'm getting less for my subsciption fee and will need to pay even more money in the future to unlock costume options and powersets. YAY!!! Like I said before, the devs better wow in the next year or alot of people will be going to the Marvel and DC games. The genre has kept me here, but once we start seeing more of it, I'm going to go to the best one. (which still might be CoX, we'll see)

And the Veteran Rewards is a horrible idea. It won't bring in new players as they won't qualify. It won't bring back previous players who left dissaisfied with the game because their account wouldn't have been active the fulltime to qualify. The purpose of it is to keep any of the rest of us from cancelling our accounts, especially between the long waits for each update. They know many of us practically have OCD over things like costumes and badges and will use those to bribe us to stick around just to get them. It's a ploy nothing more.
  6. Maybe I'm being cynical, but I just can't see what's to get all excited about with that address. We've waited half a year so far for an issue and still haven't seen it. Sounds like once we do, chances are we will only see one more issue this year. Then instead of giving content and reasons for players to keep their accounts active, they figure they will award ingame items for those who do. So a player has to stay subscribed to the game for which there is nothing new to them in order to unlock trenchcoats or something?(example) Seems like a lazy way to stop all the players who have been leaving the game.

The only potential good news that came out of the address is the possibility that finally zones like Boomtown, RCS, and Faultline will get redone and won't remain the useless areas they currently are. I can't believe it's been 2 years and they still offer the playerbase nothing in these zones.

It doesn't sound like anything huge is planned for 2006. I am looking forward to I-7(if it ever gets released) and the patron powers and new powersets. But the devs better wow us in the next year, because come 2007 they get competition. And those of you swearing lifetime allegiance to CoX may end up eating your words.

And I never saw Rikti homeworld as the front-runner in the new zone poll. Looked to me like underwater was the clear winner in that poll amongst the posters. And it cracks me up reading how some of the posters act like they know what's up with the EATs. Corrallax will be released in I-9, Avilians will be good guys, blah blah blah. It's speculation only.
  7. I think the powersets sound cool. It makes each AT well-rounded and gives them things their powersets are missing.

I do think there is potential for Stalkers being over-powered in PvP. They tear it up as it is. Add in a snipe AND a hold and they are gonna be even more annoying. we'll see what the dmg numbers look like on snipe, but it could get ugly. And pets are quite useful for a stalker. Attack, hold, summon pet..allows you to take on more mobs at once.

And the RPers need to get a clue. You can't complain about additions to a game because they don't fit YOUR personal bios. Make believe is not that important in the greater scheme of things. If it really bothers you that much. Quit the game and go invest in a life. Otherwise work with the changes.
  8. I had an end redux in RA and 2 in rooted and 1 in mudpots before my respec. I now have 1 in RA, 1 in rooted, 2 in mudpots and 1 in heavey mallet. I also exchanged crystal armor for stone mallet, so I'm not as dependent on heavy mallet for my dmg. And yes I'm using SOs.

I think that will help my end issues now. Still don't know about the acc though. Sounds like I should lower the difficulty when soloing as I'd rather not lose any more slots to acc.
  9. Great guide. I just hit lvl 32 tonight with my stone tanker and am getting ready to respec him and get rid of crystal armor and add in another attack.

What I wanna ask about is slotting for accuracy. I notice the builds have 1 acc in them generally. Right now my attack chain is stone fist and heavy mallet with hurl boulder in there when I need it all slotted with 1acc. First of all with those attacks and RA, mudpots, and Rooted running I burn through end pretty fast. And that's with 3-slotted stamina. I think alot of the problem is I miss. ALOT. It is frustrating. I'd dare say my attacks miss at least 50% of the time. I notice this obviously more when I'm soloing. I have my difficulty set to Invulnerable so I'm fighting oranges-purples mostly.

This causes a problem for me with mobs like the DE. I just started fighting them tonight and the purple bosses(lvl 34 to my lvl 32) will summon eminators a second time before I have a chance to kill them. And by then I'm sorely hurting on endurance. I pop inspirations like crazy, but sometimes towards the end of the mission, you're out of yellows and blues. So should I be slotting a second acc into my attack powers? Are most of you all soloing on the highest difficulty as well? Do you have problems with missing alot? I know ig I hit more, that would solve alot of problems. Then again, I just might be soloing outside my ability range. Experiences? Suggestions?
  10. Yay finally found that a new video was posted away from Gamespot. couldn't get any visual over there. Thanks for posting the new link.

The Thug set looks awesome. And looks like a nice combo of lethal range and melee and even some fire so you aren't limited in your dmg type like Mercs. I'm thinking I may have to re-roll my MM as a Thug since they fit better in his backstory than Mercs do anyway. Though deleting another lvl26 would suck. heh

Defensor used a shield, too. He was one of those lame-o "non-US-centric" heroes they whipped up to compete in the Infinity Gems game between Thanos and The Gamemaster. Props to me for useless knowledge. (If I remember the comic correctly, and this is going back a loooong time now... I think She Hulk (in her FF4 days) was on Defensor's team with 2 other heroes... and they were opposed by a team with Daredevil and 3 other heroes. DD ended up winning that piece of the golden globe with a well timed billy-club/cable throw to lasso it at the last second.
    [Good Lord... I'm sad...]

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're like half right. It was the Contest of Champions and did not involve Thanos or the Infinity gems. And you combined two different fights. Daredevil was in the arctic battle. She-Hulk was indeed with Defensor in the Old West town. It came down between her and Iron Man for the globe and Iron Man got it.

Website: None, wanna make us one?
    Officers: Texas-Holdem
    Recruiting Officers: Texas-Holdem
Preferred Method of contact: global @thatsmystapler

Background: After losing his family to crime, Texas-Holdem went after the criminals from within their own oraganizations. He has sought other vigilantes in his war on crime, and has started the House of Cards. Those who are vigilantes or are undercover heroes are welcomed to join this new army in the war on crime. Any real villains that attempt to join will be accepted with a bullet between the eyes.

((I like the idea of heroes and vigilantes going undercover as villains to take down crime. The Shroud in the Night Shift, Justice League Elite, Nightwing, etc. There is a bit of expected RP to join as it must be clear that your "villain" is really a vigilante or undercover hero. You are however not required to play in character.

I'm not looking to make this into some uber-VG. I am trying to avoid teaming with obvious villains as that would go against character. The purpose of this VG is to unite others of the same mindset so we can have people to team with.))

One of the obvious moves is the City of Manga/City of Manhwa to appeal to CoH growing Asian audience, through NCSoft Distribution.

In particular, such a game/expansion would probably feature a high tech Korean or Japanese themed city with lots of martial arts powers, lots of robots, and perhaps a few powersets that cater directly to the magical girl types.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I couldn't see them doing that as that would turn away alot of current players. I hate anime. And contrary to popular belief, alot of comic collectors and gamers hate anime. Anime is a niche genre in the US. Much more so that comics or gaming.

What about Big Bertha from the Great Lakes Avengers? She was a hero, and could grow incredibly Fat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I knew someone was going to say her. But if you recall, she converts back to not just a normal girl but a super model. So she still keeps with the heroes are hotties theory.

And Punisher and Spawn are not heroes of any sort. They don't care about doing what is right, they do what they want. Frank kills who he wants how he wants. He justifies this by preying on criminals. But there have been many issues that have dived into the fact that the Punisher is a psychopath. His writer Garth Ennis even says so.

Spawn doesn't even bother to go out and hunt down evil doers to kill. He just kills whomever gets in his way. He's not even really that pro-active about it.

They are both killers that just happen to kill bad guys is all.
  15. No counterpoint. This is one of those things where no one is going to sway the other side to their way of thinking.(maybe I'm just tired). We all have our vision of the game and what we would like. However, ultimately it's going to be the Devs. States has already said that CoV options are coming over, now it's just a matter of what.

PS- I've never petitioned a name/costume unless it was obscene or violated copyright.

Anyone that considers Spawn and Punisher to be "good guys" and "heroes" has no reason to be commenting on comic books at all. Unless you definition of good guy is killin people?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No...obviously if you kill anyone you cannot be a hero. Screw the police and the military. They must be all pure evil since they kill people when they have to! You have opened my eyes! No longer will I think or Police or Military are heroes that keep us safe!

    [/ QUOTE ]

lol I have to ask if you really believe that? That a policeman shooting a perp in the line of duty, or a solider shooting someone in war is the same as the Punisher busting in a mafioso's gamblishing establishment and gunning everyone down? If you honestly believe that Spawn and Punisher are the same type of heroes as a police officer or soldier, then:

1)You are far beyond the realm of being able to determine what a true hero is.

2)You need to check yourself into some counseling.

Police and soldiers kill people because the HAVE to. The Punisher and Spawn(among others) kill people because they CHOOSE to. Big difference.
  17. This is a game of superheroes. If it was merely a game of heroes doctors, firefighters, and my grandpa would be in it. I didn't buy this game to be a boat commander in World War II, no matter how heroic that is. I bought it to throw on a costume and fly through the air and fight bad guys just like in the comic books that inspired the game.

Jason Voorhies or He-man could be a tanker and Freddy a scrapper. Ash could be a blaster. Yet are those people we wanna see in this game? And while some might actually say yes, I vote an astounding no.

And to ask what will it bother if someone is wearing a stupid costume. What will it bother if someone wants to called their hero Streetwalker69 or SatanicSchoolSux? Does it physically impede our gameplay? No. But is it something we want to see in the game? No. Will most people send a petition? Yes. Same thing goes for costumes as it does for names. You are welcomed to make whatever look you want, and the rest of us are still free to ridicule and put our votes in against things like giant skull monsters for heroes.

And it's mainstream majority of comic readers that want the ideal look for their heroes. Otherwise Superman would be fat, Wonder Woman a guy in drag, and Spider-man would have a nubbin.

And Deathlok(at least the Luthor Manning version) wasn't interesting because he was ugly. He was interesting because he was a pacifist trapped in the ultimate weapon. The dichotomy there made him interesting. If being fugly was all it took, Beak would have his own comic.
  18. The general consensus in American comics is:

    ugly=evil
    fat=evil

Blame society, but that's the case. We want our heroes big and muscular and all ideal. There are obvious exceptions, but they are usually the first to get killed too. (ie Dinah Soar)

    Why should Tutu's be added?

    The Toxic Avenger

    Why should "lightsabers" be added?

    Thundarr the Barbarian

    Troll Heads

    Because sometimes ugliness is heroic

    Strawberry Shortcake Hats

Because sometimes real children play this game. Some as young as 8.

Congradulations on your promotion to the Command Sergeant Major of Costumes, though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Toxic Avenger and Thundarr are NOT superheroes. Using your logic, we should have Baby Ruth bars and clubs with birds that come out of them. The guy from Goonies and Captain Caveman are as much superheroes as your examples. Captain Caveman probably even more so.

And if ugliness is heroic.....naw just too easy.lol

And why should we cater to little kids WHEN THE GAME IS RATED TEEN??? Should we put the Wiggles in a Rob Zombie movie just because some parents ignore the ratings system and let their kids watch it?

    Edited to be less harsh.
  20. Anyone that considers Spawn and Punisher to be "good guys" and "heroes" has no reason to be commenting on comic books at all. Unless you definition of good guy is killin people?

And for the record, I'm not against more costume pieces in CoH, quite the opposite in fact. I'm against the truly villainous stuff being put in CoH. There should be costume options exclusive to both sides.

And WoW shares the same server/client/etc/ and yet the Horde and Alliance look different. Go figure.

To be clear: the code for sharing costume pieces between City of Heroes and City of Villains is NOT yet in...heck, it isn't even written yet. BUT we'll do it after release - hopefully very soon after release. Then heroes can have access to the new options.

To be honest, this idea came specifically from this thread. Since people wanted the new costume options, I checked with Software - who said it could be done. Just wanted to let you know that yes, we do take suggestions!

FYI - for those who don't like the idea because villains should look different than heroes - remember that villains already have hero options. They can create a character identical to one that exists in City of Heroes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your FYI was the dumbest excuse possible to justify this change. It was your mistake to put all the hero costume options in CoV. And now you are going to use that mistake to justify the mistake of putting all the villain options in CoH? That's just ludicrous.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The option being added isn't hurting anyone. If the new costume features don't appeal to you for your heroes, simply don't use them. Your choices are not being limited and your ability to craft the toon that you want is not hindered. So...what's the problem exactly?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I HATE that line of thought. So we should be ok if they decided to add tutus, strawberry shortcake hats, troll heads, and light sabers just because we don't have to use them? There is an integrity that goes to the game. Most of us picked up City of Heroes to play in exactly that, a City of Heroes. And vice versa with CoV.

If I wanted to play a mmorpg just for the sake of playing a mmorpg, I would play something else. I play CoH, and soon to be CoV, for a reason. For the genres and factions they each embrace. As we combine the two, we lose what makes each unique. Sure I can choose to make the only heroic looking hero in CoH while everyone else wants to look like retarded ninja zombies. But I've got to interact with those people. And if I wanted to just solo, I wouldn't be playing a mmorpg. I play this for the heroes to team up with other heroes. I don't want to team with villains(in CoH), elves, jedis, or care bears. If you can't understand the need and desire for a separation of genres and factions in the game, then you're just dense.

And my post wasn't even attacking the option of CoV pieces in CoH as much as it was attacking Statesman's flawed logic. The people that don't want the truly villianous pieces in CoH don't want the heroic pieces in CoV either. The big cheesy grin should not be a villain face. Nor cute widdle pandas on the shoulder. His logic for the addition of the pieces to CoH was utterly stupid.

The reason, and I'll bet money on it, that they are doing it is that you need to buy CoV to get access to the pieces. And this will get people who normally wouldn't buy CoV to buy it just to add costume options in CoH. It's about increasing sales. Which I get and I understand. I'd rather read that as a reason that the statement "Uh we did it cuz we did it in CoV too, hur".

    I will agree.

There are some costume pieces that don't make sense for heroes, like chains, skull heads, zombie skin, and the like, but there are some very nice hats, coats, patterns, and masks that would fit in with the heroes.

Plus we'd finally get the fishnet stockings that are blatantly displayed on the box cover.

Maybe it's been said, I dont have time to read every page, but havent you ever heard of Ghost Rider or Spawn?

Ghost Rider, Spawn, Vengeance to name a few of the Skull and Chain heroes.

As for Monstrous heroes? Sasquatch, Venom (when he decided to be Lethal Protector), Toxin, Feral, Sabretooth (he was a 'good guy' for a while), Vengeance...

As for the zombie-skin? Spawn, Deadpool....

Remember, though a lot of those have been termed villains for some time they were or are heroes.

Why should you have to wait for the Hero-Villain crossover trial for costume options?

Hmm? Ghost Rider didn't have to start evil and redeem himself. He started off 'good'.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually most of your examples are flawed:

Spawn- Was never a hero, not even in his human life. He was a mercenary and then ended up becoming a minion of hell. He fought both Heavenly and Hellish forces and killed quite abundantly. At best you can call him an amoral anti-hero which is kind of redundant.

Ghost Rider- Possessed by a demon and punishes criminals. He too is judge, jury, executioner. Not a hero, but a supernatural vigilante at best. Other MU heroes do not consider him to be one. Vengeance falls into this category more or less as well.

Venom/Sabertooth/Feral- all bad guys who were on the side of good momentarily for the sake of sales. Can't really use them as examples in this. Feral was with heroes first before they discovered she/her sister murdered their family. This went back and forth for awhile.

Spawn/Deadpool- neither one is considered a hero. DP is a well known merc. He kills for money. That pretty much puts him into the villain category.

Out of all the examples you listed, the only one I would consider to be a hero is Sasquatch. Though Toxin is from what I've heard, I'm not reading his title. I know he is a cop or something though. Most of your skulls, leather-wearing, monster types fall into the anti-hero crowd not the hero crowd. So somewhere between CoH and CoV. But if you had to pick a side, most would be on the CoV side in most heroes eyes. You think Superman would allow Spawn to kill someone in front of him?
