Maybe, but Blizzard + Ice Storm outdamages RoA since we're comparing the AOE total of a powerset and not just 2 powers.

Also I doubt 2 Ice/Kin Corruptors/Defenders having the survivability to rush a full spawn in melee range for FS the way a Scrapper/Defender (his current combo) can.
True enough, but it's really cheap to build a 45+ S/L & E defense Ice/Kin Corr and then stack Increased Density with Tough to get about 45% S res and 30% E res. That's comparable S (not as much L) & E mitigation to a SD scrapper. And with S/L & E mitigation of that level, I'm sure people can guess what the farming mobs are.
  2. Blizzard is probably the most damaging T9 in game. Coupled with Ice Storm, Ice should blow away Arch in terms of AOE damage. Easiest way I can think of to compare the two is probably to pull up Mids, then pull up the Powerset Comparison chart. Pick Arch vs. Ice for Corr Primaries. Then click Damage (for burst) and compare the AOE potential of Arch vs. Ice i.e. RoA vs. sum of Ice Storm + Blizzard. Then click DPS and do the same comparison. Ice should easily blow away Arch in terms of AoE damage esp once you factor in capped damage and high recharge from SS+SB.

Umm, if Mids is right Ice Storm and Blizzard on Corrs are using Blaster numbers... no wonder Ice seems to shred things.

Edit: It seems /Ice for Defenders behaves the same way, so you can probably swing 2 Kin/Ice Defs for even more destruction due to higher Kin/ modifiers.
  3. Sorry I'm not good with figures, but from experience I'd have to say 2 Ice/Kin Corrs alternating Blizzards while double-stacked-perma Ice Storm is running should easily beat that.

Probably not as safe as the Scap/Def combo though.

Just curious how well an AOE Fortunata fits into this list? Better than a Dom but not as fast as a Brute? I can see it maybe unable to keep up with a high Fury Brute, but it should be going faster than a Dom with 2 Assaults + Follow Up + Aim running.
  7. The key is to make alts. Lots of them, with different powers and combinations. Once you get a grasp of how each plays, then you'll be in a better position to make informed decisions on what primary goes with what secondary to suit your playstyle and competence.

Also get Mids. It's a great resource on how a power actually performs as opposed to relying on misleading in-game power descriptions.

Also, don't forget to use paragon wiki to get some background on ATs, powers, missions, backstory on enemies, etc.

It's not like I can't afford it after never having spent inf on IOs. I'd probably have a few billion in inf if I pooled it across my toons and I've had no issues whatsoever finding what I needed for instant gratification blueside.

Not to mention how could I have it now if I couldn't even find it for sale to bid on? Is there a way to bid for items that don't come up when I do a search for it?
  10. I will be moving everything I have on redside (Corrs, MMs, Brutes, VEATs if possible) to blueside and only for one reason: The rarity of everything on the Black Market. About 2 weeks ago I finally decided to try to IO out a toon after having resisted it for so long and I couldn't find a single Red Fortune or Smashing Haymaker for sale on the BM. I logged my toon out in disgust and haven't logged back into redside since.

I say that after being partial to everything on reside; I prefer the redside challenge level, I prefer the AT designs on redside (despite there being nothing in the farming capacity of a Fire or Plant/Kin controller), I prefer the zone layouts, the missions, even the Epic/Ancillary pools (despite the lack of Physical Perfection), everything redside other than the stupid BM.
  11. I don't disagree with you. DA is pretty unplayable without a ToE: +End.

It's not the toggles that kill DA, it's Dark Regen being an end hog coupled with the low resistances of DA which means the DR crutch needs to be used often. Turn DR into something like Healing Flames and the set would be far more enjoyable, which also explains why DA plays like any other resistance set once u get ur hands on a ToE: +End.

s/l res and half-baked status resistance does not constitute well layered protection. Those 3 sets, for the s/l resists they provide, definitely need to provide some m/s/l def to compete with WP or IOs need to provide enough Res to bring s/l to cap. Elec has 2 layers (res and regen), lacks defense and the end drain just makes mobs run away. Dark has toggle juggling that people mistake for layers, but really isn't. The massive heal is only viable with ToE +End and even then is not something to fall back on when going up against single opponents. Fire has a nicer heal than Dark, fewer toggles to deal with and has Burn (which is definitely nicer redside because of the AOE immobilize in the patron pool).

All three of those are old and decrepit protections that don't hold a candle to the newer, shinier and better designed WP.

It's quite measly debuff protection; something like 30% regen debuff res, 15% def debuff res. Also, there's zero end debuff res (although I guess QR can be considered a cover for that). So yeah, anything with those heavy debuffs like Dark backed up by a def debuffer do a number on WP. But yeah, I did say that the multiple layers (or in your words: diversification) in WP is wonderful and WP needs to be hit with multiple debuffs to actually take it down.

    Quote:
Willpower's biggest weakness is the fact that it relies completely upon passive survivability mechanisms. Its biggest weakness is that which is expressly written in its description: burst damage. If you're going to argue that Willpower is weak to debuffs expressly because it can get it to the face from defense debuff cascade, you might as well say that about every set except for Ninjitsu, Shield, and SR because, apparently, the only debuff that matters is -def and the only debuff resistance that matter for -def is the absurdly high DDR that those sets have.
There are plenty of complimentary sets to pair WP with that cover its holes. Dark gives it a heal, anything with status effects gives it time to regen, and it has better def than the resistance sets while having comparable s/l resistances. If it's biggest weakness is burst damage, that is compounded for every single resist set out there in addition to those resist sets having other bigger holes in them. It's purely because of -def cascades that I'm partial to WP paired with Kat, but even with the -def hole, any (aoe) status effect (KD, disorient, etc.) provides WP with time to get back to full health.

I basically look at WP as swiss cheese in terms of the holes it has. The resistance sets are like the Sudbury Crater. Ok, I exaggerate, but my point stands.

    Quote:
If you want to play a set that is weak to debuffs, try your hand at */Regen. It's the only personal survivability set without any debuff resists (except for those that you get from PvP). Of course, it's also the set that uses the most animation time by a very significant margin and doesn't get any comparative advantage to account for that cost.
Ick, I haven't played /Regen since the days of perma IH.

Well said. The only ATs that can even afford to complain about KB redside are Corrs (Kins mainly and Dark to a lesser extent) and Stalkers. Pretty much everyone else can nullify KB if they chose to. With the lack of Electrifying Fences for most blueside ATs, I do feel for their inability to deal with KB.

Rather than removing or changing KB at all, it might just be more fun all around to give access to Electrifying Fences to more ATs instead?

The weakness of WP is debuff vulnerability. Otherwise there would be no reason to take any other set because WP has excellent regen, exotic def, s/l res and status protection. Layered defenses like that are superior to simply res or heal/regen (like elec or fire or dark) because they don't collapse like a house of cards from one little vulnerability. Even when it comes to debuff vulnerability, WP would have to be hit with -def debuffs, -res debuffs and -regen debuffs to make it collapse in the same way as some of the one shot wonders. Couple WP with a mitigation damage set like SS (footstomp) or Stone (fault/tremor) or a defense buffing set like Kat or BS and you end up with an absolute beast.

It would be sorta silly to change Phantom Army and Decoy like that.
  16. Tip for getting SP 3% Def easily: Run a few AE missions and do recipe reward rolls in the 10-14 level range. I think it's like 60 tix a pop and you'll get one in no time.
  17. Well, I never advocated trading the med pool away. I still take it while playing a non-Fury based Claws/SR. I don't recall saying don't get Aid-Self; I said it works against the Brute class mechanic and is annoying enough in the leveling up phase (before the fully IOed out stage; I don't care about the post-50 IO stage) to prefer playing Claws/SR on a different AT.

Also I checked last night, my NW has like 65% melee def without any real IOs at all (other than in mind link), which seems to be decent enough an overcap to take out cims before the def debuffs really hurt.

It looks like Claws/SR on a Brute really comes into its own after significant IO investment, which probably explains why its not for me.

That would be comparing secondaries to primaries and rather silly. This is a case of comparing secondaries to secondaries.

As for Aid-Self damaging Fury, not really. The only time I ever seem to have to use Aid Self is when surrounded for relatively long durations by Lts and Bosses. Who are, as you might imagine, keeping my fury as close to capped as really matters by attacking me a bunch. In the farms I use running from mob to mob my fury barely falters.
It damages it enough that I dislike it intensely. It's counterproductive to the mechanic just like the way DA is great on my scrapper but I can't stand it on my brute. Some combinations in this game click together really well (*/WP Brutes), and other things cause premature balding.

    Quote:
Also, do Widows get 95% defense debuff resistance? I honestly don't recall, I prefer Fortunata to Night Widow.
    Nope, I think it's somewhere around 30%.
  19. SR just seems underwhelming compared to Widow Teamwork, especially the real nice psi resists that comes with it. I dunno if it's just the lower levels as a SR brute, but I don't remember having as tough a time with my NW at those levels. And the need for the Med Pool which works against Fury causes me no end of frustration as well, so it's been shelved with a note to self - that I'll never play another Brute that requires Aid Self.
  20. Well, if it's farming, you need to pick a secondary without toggles, especially if you don't have status protection to stop those toggles from dropping all the time. It's one reason why I intensely dislike /rad (the toggles take forever to cast and they drop too easily) and why everyone uses /kinetics (the heal and FS damage boost being the main reasons).

You can skip the aoe def and get a decent splattroller build while only softcapping ranged def:

Then again, you can take the easy option and just recipe farm mobs with AOE attacks (council portal) that basically wipe themselves out from the confuse and you won't have to worry about which secondary you take.
  21. Well, it's obviously not a grouping build since the OP didn't ask for O2 Boost to be included, so I'm left to wonder why anyone would make a farm build that's not plant/kin/stone other than to be different and inefficient..
  22. Softcapping those 2 are easy. Making it into a splattroller while doing so, not so much as the other poster pointed out since your control powers won't be doing much damage. Then again, that's what you have /storm for.

Here's 45.1 ranged, 46.6 aoe def and it's comparatively cheap (no purples).

  23. I dunno, you spent all that inf on purples and you didn't even cap S/L def?

Once you get your Stone attack chain, I think you can put 4 Enfeebled Operations in Roots for the S/L defense. Then stick Sovereign Right in Fly Trap for more S/L and 4 Lethargic Reposes in Spore Burst and you'll finally have capped S/L.

Swap in a Recharge IO in Creepers and it'll still be perma.

IMHO, the speed all depends on how much recharge you get for Fissure. The damage from Creepers isn't that great, but combined with FS and mob damage to each other from confuse, it's better than hotfeet and safer since it holds its own aggro. The damage from Fly Trap may be less than Imps despite Fly Trap having Fling Thorns.

My cheapo build if you're interested:

  24. Or just give controllers /traps already. The synergy between wormhole and trip mines would basically prop the powerset up better than anything short of a redesign.
  25. There are certain powersets that KB works against and certain ones it works well with.

Kin is definitely NOT a good powerset to pair with someone who does a lot of KB. The Kin queues up a heal or fulcrum shift and if that mob goes flying away from the people who need the heal or away from the rest of the group for fulcrum shift, those powers are then wasted. It means the person who might have been healed ends up hospitalized or the team doesn't get to cap their damage.

Now if you're grouped with Storm or Illusion controllers, I think the KB would fit right in with that playstyle.
