  1. Don't blame the pvp changes for the reason no one pvp's. More ppl would if there wasnt an immature, purile attitude given by 95% - and yes thats a real number in my experience - that is when you set foot in the area you are fair game. Never mind if youre only there for badges, or this is your first time trying pvp, or if you dont know how differently an IO'd build/pvp built toon can make a difference - youre chum in the water. I've seen new ppl get pounded on repeatly and then made fun of - ya think theyll ever be back after that? Then on top of it, you tie reciepes to player defeats - so now on top of "Cry moar newb!", its "hey i have to kill you, i might get a 200 million drop!" Nice forethought there btw devs.

I have no sympathy at all for you.

Ah. Also notice due to DR that overall my pve 45%ish goes to 17% - also prob about the same time. Been a while since ive been in a pvp zone obviously. Thanks for the reply without "Cry moar!" i was expecting.

has personal force field and eye of magus doe nothing to bolster defence while in pvp zones? And im not being overreaching - activating either adds literally NOTHING to defense totals. Since when and why?

This will give you some clues. >

Just finished it - overall was very engaging. Other than the im sure you know text errors i just had the following:

I wasnt really sure why i was fighting the whisperer - because he could "see" better than you? Maybe tweak that a bit. The rest flowed fine.

Just a personal note - i hate caves. And theres a reason i dont go into dark astoria - i can't see and its annoying. So i had a hrad time in there, but, was a nice spooky feeling you were going for.

The AV/EB fight was well thought out - i solo'd the whole thing but i can tell it would be hard gfor teams. i like the custom enemies naems/powers.

So i gave it a 5. Nice work.

This change and the previous one is bad because it still allows for some teammates to grief your team should they choose to log off and not quit. I have had it to happen twice since the first change on a few tfs I have done. Once on Katie hannon and once Sara Moore TFs. We need a way to be able to kick people from the team that are not currently logged in. Secondly neither of these changes have done anything to address the reason why this softloading of tf/sfs happens in the first place. If the recipes that people can actually use were more readily accessable we would not be going thru this now in the first place. Either address the issue with the drop pools or you are doing all this for nothing and all it is doing is punishing the rest of the playerbase instead of farmers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Understandable and thanks for the feedback. However, I would have to advise you to better get to know the people you are grouping with. Simply put, if someone has a reputation for such, don't engage in a task / strike force or trial with them. You would be well advised to only take your most trusted allies with you to tackle such challenging and dangerous missions!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Soooo, if im understanding you right, those ppl that dont have a regular circle of friends are just kinda bunk? PUGs are the way most of these tf/sf get done usually as far as ive seen - how do you et to know who has a rep for it with ppl running alts? Ya kinda jsut patted this guy/gal on the head and said - ya ya just get a life in game..

I am confronting the issue, that is the best way I know how to address an issue like this. I have a lot of great ideas that I would like to submit for improvements for PVP but in order for me to do so and be taken seriously, the community has to be viable.

To be considered viable in this industry it has to have a populous that is consistent. For each new person that comes to PVP in our game we lose people to PVP in our game either from natural flow, banning, or people that quit from griefing. It isn't as simple as "ban them all, let the individuals sort it out." This issue is affecting your community's viability.

The PVP community while it may appear to be getting new members is losing numbers at a similar rate, therefore the growth is not quantifiable.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is the part of Ex Libris post that I wonder about. In a nutshell, PvP is losing roughly as many participants as it gains. The thing I'm curious about is how they determine who is a "PvPer" and who isn't. It would seem to me that zone PvP is too random to be an element to know for sure. I know that on Virtue we often have informal PvP events in various zones at which decidedly non-PvPers will participate for the chance at some good RP. Arena on test server would be a more stable means of determining PvP population, but from all indications, that segment has grown, contrary to what Ex has stated. I'm confused by it, frankly.

Based on the last several financial reports from NCSoft that have been posted on these forums, the total population of CoX has been fairly constant for the last couple of years. The population spikes with every update, and wanes between updates, but is fairly consistant. In a nutshell, they lose as many subscriptions as they gain.

I am curious if the attrition to the PvP segment of the game is roughly the same percentage in relation to the total subscription attrition. If so, that would not necessarily mean that PvP is in any worse a condition than any other segment of the population. It would only be a more noticable segment because it is one that was expected to show growth, and is a constant polarizing element in the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Those financial reports you speak of showing an apparent similiar approx influx and exodus in subscriptions fails to take into account that they would, imho, have been markedly higher by now had ED* and GDN* not been implemented - a quick scan of the forum posts during that time and a closer look at the time frame involved show the drop. Whereas pvp has always been on the low end.

Personally i doubt the resources needed to make pvp a fun aspect of teh game will be put in adequately, and if so, it will take years imo to see the changes and realize a subscription "profit". Hard choices either way really....

*And no im not going to get drawn into a discussion of whether it was necessary or needed or what have you.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Upon being invited to a challenge and accepting, both members would switch to a flagging scheme such that they could only attack one another. No one else could attack them and they could not attack anyone else. (I do not know if this is possible with existing tech.) If the challenger or challenged is a team leader, then all of their team would enter the challenge on their side.

    [/ QUOTE ]

On re-reading HB's post, I think this part is unworkable because it's too easy to exploit. Arrange to meet a buddy in PVP, then work out a scheme for one character or the other to earn the merits or whatever other benefits are in the zone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There will always, repeat always, be people that can find workarounds to any given situation. As with nerfs to missions of Pl'rs and min/maxers, the point is to make something that appeals - or works - for the 95% of your target audience and not worry about the 5% that will find the "leet" way to max benefit from it.

I personally like the way LoTR has it - form what i understand you get access to a "50" pvp build/toon even if you're not a 50 and rock with it. Since i've heard the manta "no risk no reward" ad infintium regarding changes im assuming that this isnt a option - but it is interesting if it could be implemented here. Go to warburg - try out a stalker. Go to RV - how's that ice/eng workin for you playstyle wise? I can already hear the hew and cry that ppl that have worked months on their toon are bioeng slighted, and i can see kinda that point. But again we are looking at the greater audience here and game survivablity. Failing that i like the build switching idea pvp vs pve.

I personally hate pvp as it is now - but i have had good times there. These changes would increase interest in the pvp aspect - i'd still like to see some sort of change that makes the fights longer. Most complaint is that its tp/gank or 2 hit wonders dominating the field and thats the main reson ppl i know dont go - its simply not fun to be the repeated lamb unless you have the pvp leet build - even if you are in a team. Ask any emp controller bout that! :P

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  16. OK i tink im almost there :P

What about say, luck of the gambler that gives 10% regen - it can be placed in a click or passive def power of invuln...does that mean the 10% is global in the passive but the other 10% only comes on when you activate combat jumping?

And does that mean the regen given by some IO melee powersets only come into effect when you use the melee power?
  17. So if i understand it right - if were to put that same IO in dull pain, it would not have the global effect because it is not "ON" all the time?
  18. ok - i understand where you're going in your post about putting the unique ones in health - but since health doesnt take end recovery anything in it, does it really effect a change? has it been "tested"? i have a miracle and dont want to waste a respec.....

Um - how is it diversifing anything when all thats happening to is to try to get the best health benefit out of something that used to be much better?

  21. I look forward to the IoP trail as a way to keep my sg involved and another avenue of "new content". But i will not risk the hard work my sg has put into the base - although Team Vanguard is in the top 50 last i checked, we have worked too hard to risk 1/2+ years work if say the sg computer goes down. I submit the best way to seperate those that want to pvp from pve'rs is to allow, at the raids beginning, the defending sg can give up the IoP. No worries then aobut losing the huge ticket items from greifing (cuz you know that never happens) and lets those raiders/pvp'r do their thing....
  22. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
the devs have already put contamineted in rv so the so called "waste ot the devs time" is put out of the way

    [/ QUOTE ]
*raises her hand at this point because she just can't help herself*

I understand that a key argument/assumption the anti-Isolators have held is that it would take "too much time and effort" for the Devs to implement a "fix" for Isolator. I also understand that the mere existence of RV Isolator fundamentally dismisses that argument because, well, there now -is- a fix for it of sorts. That's fine.

But I would offer that the pro-Isolators have at best a Pyrrhic victory with RV Isolator because a reasonable solution to the problem has in fact proven to actually -be- a "waste of the devs time" as far as they seem to be concerned. They didn't put any significant effort to address the problem in a balanced, thoughtful way at all and that's the real tragedy here.

Long before CoH went live I'm sure the Devs developed editing tools that would simplify their ability to establish MOBs in zones and missions - little GUIs perhaps that let them set spawn points, critter types and levels, spawn frequencies and so on. I'm sure they've used these tools so many times that the average Dev could probably set up a new MOB spawn in a zone in the quick matter of a few seconds.

To think that after well over a year of people arguing about Isolator in the forums, people deciding whether or not to throw hundreds of hours away on rerolls and people coming up with numerous workable scenarios that could've provided positive solutions for everyone concerned that were seemingly ignored, it all came down to a couple of quick RV MOB spawn defines that for all it took could've been done within the first minute of Issue 2 going live in some back corner of AP long forgotten by this point.

The sad idea that people like Beef_Cake have claimed that they've already defeated many dozens of Contaminated since I2 in various 'buggy' mission spawns only screams for that extra little step in logic that if these little buggers were already slipping out of Outbreak it could've been so simple to have just let it happen 'for real' long ago. Gods how much happier this forum would've been if those little misspawns had been intended all along.

It astounds me that people here in both the pro and anti Isolator camps continue to sling arrows at each other over this when it's painfully clear that A) the Devs allowed the pre-I2 toon Isolator problem to happen, B) the Devs let the problem linger and pretended it didn't exist then finally C) in a tacit admittal of the mistake lowered themselves enough to twitch their pinkies on their mice to click a few GUI buttons calling that a day.

Does no one else see that that Devs have laughed at us -all- over this? No one here really got what they wanted, and we all got to see how they are willing to patronizingly handle the concerns of its player base. People with valid arguments for why badges shouldn't be tinkered with as well as the toon rerollers got brushed aside, and people who pleaded for so long for a sensible solution for the original Isolator oversight got slapped with one of the most insanely simpleminded yet diabolical schemes one could have imagined for this game. Basically no one -won- anything here...

    [/ QUOTE ]

QFT. And the saddest part? Having twitched said pinky, they now cannot do any of the more interesting implementations i've read in these boards to further address the issue. Not without tacitly admitting they stuck their foot farther up the pooch. So the best thing im hoping for at this point is the spawn or timer rate is raised - heck if they can get 3 instances of luska up at one time in victory (yes i know its a bug) they can put 3 contan's at a time. And i agree - the fashion in which they responded to our concerns is appalling. I thought giving Posi the reins would indicate a break from States ED/I5 nerf festage mentality and start back towards "content" type of game again (for COH anyway - no i dont count pvp zones). If this is any indicator of Posi/Devs style for the future handling of the game, im slightly worried...
