Thanks for the help and sorry again. -
So I decided to give my first 50 fire/fire/soul and favorite character some love. But I'm stuck, the first build I threw together has 34% sl, 16, e/n. Then I noticed eradication and tried swapping obliteration to 3 erad, 3 sirocco, anyway, that build loses 16% recharge and gives me about 28% s/l/e/n.
Anyway, is the loss in recharge worth it? This was my first attempt, for what it's worth. I do have a catalyzed ato set. Got lucky gambling. Was thinking to put it in blazing.
Edit: Not incarnate yet, half the point was to make it easier for him to play around in da. Ignore that part.

Thanks all. Any particular reason why put 5 in spore burst over seeds? Just curious I have both and neither is filled with purples at the moment. Sadly I'm on an orange budget. Really wish I could get a range in seeds but that's probably just being greedy on my end.

So I ended up with an ato proc last night for my plant/storm/stone and my google searchfu seems to be failing me. I thought about trying to squeeze it into carrion but then since it affects control I thought it would only work on the immobilize like trap of the hunter and thus not all that great.
Then I thought about roots as my dom's ato proc works fine in his aoe immobilize but not sure on the controller end.
Any suggestions? -
Quote:I was thinking again about my dominator again and a few serious questions since again I don't play a blaster. We're picking one secondary to be awesome, and I'm suggesting that the performance of this one secondary is the standard that other Blaster secondaries should be buffed to the performance level of, in a nutshell. Details can be found within my last few posts. Theoretically speaking as of now, any blast primary can accomplish this same feat assuming perma Drain psyche.
How much of your survivability is drain pysche and how much is defense? I assume your running capped ranged and or sl.
What I mean is, on my dominator I control, jump in, sleet, drain. It's very safe.
For a blaster I don't imagine you get that benefit and still have a chance of being alpha'ed to death. I guess my point is, have you tried mental without softcapped defenses? Is mental really that good or does it just benefit really well from io's, kind of like fire armor, willpower, dark, etc?
I know one of the things that can frustrate my controller/dominator are spread out pulls. I was just imagining a blaster trying to jump into a pull, waiting for it to gather into dp short range and getting toasted right as it goes off. -
Since I'm an incarnate noob I was wondering. Is fighting at 4x8 when you have all three level shifts the same as fighting at 1x8 if you have none of them?
On an unrelated note, couldn't the op just have reposted silverado's thread from a few years ago if he was just trying to prove a blaster could solo a gm. -
I haven't played mental on a blaster only on my dominator so I have to ask. Are the non drain psyche powers useful for a blaster or any good? It just feels like your secondary is one power called drain psyche. If so I'm not sure I'd claim mental is in a good spot either, it just has one nerf worthy power.

Nope didn't mean it was lying at all. Only that bias tends to hurt objective tests. I would tell the same thing to arcanaville if she/he (sorry about that) tried the same sort of test.
Since you said you were a vegetarian maybe an analogy would help. Imagine if you read an article in the paper. "Meat eaters live 50 years longer"...tests sponsored by the american beef council. You'd be justifiably skeptical of the test.
No matter how objective you are I'd say the forum community might be justifiably skeptical of your test for a similar reason. It's no insult to you.
I am not rolling out a blaster and trying the same thing for the same reason I originally indicated your results won't be overly meaningful to anyone but you. The sample size would still be too small and not varied enough to be very relevant in terms of argumentation. -
Quote:Hmm I'm not per se. It's simply not good practice in my eyes to have a person with an obvious bias conduct a test they hope to be meaningful in a scientific fashion. Like I joked, with data it's easy to be misleading without lieing.I've been posting the results very objectively and with detail covering exactly what I did and how long it took on both characters. Unless you're accusing me of lying, I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
I'll give you a few example, I'm not accusing just showing what I mean:
What if your blaster was stocking up insp between each mission and your stalker wasn't.
What if you were using temps on one but not the other. Heck maybe you're just playing differently or measuring differently.
In the end you have something you want the results to prove, which hurts the credibility of whatever results you do produce. And yes, someone eventually might say, 'well thb, i think you're lying because you're obviously biased.'
Anyway, to the point. If this is to prove to you what you already think then more power to you.
But you really can't call it "statistics"
It's a single data point, by a biased player. I'm willing to bet you'll prove to yourself what you already think true, but we'll see.
If you wanted statistical samples you'd need a much larger group, and the people in it need to be controlled to some extent. For example, putting this on the forums limits it to forum readers, which I might infer are better players. So whatever results we'll get are skewed toward how a blaster vs melee plays for the good players vs. average.
TLDR: I guess my point. Saying "This is what I experienced." Is fine I suppose. Claiming it as statistical data to prove your point doesn't really work and really shouldn't in and of itself convince anyone. -
Is this where I point out that gathering data with a clear bias on what you want that data to prove makes the results less credible. I suppose it is very 'statistics' like though. snarf snarf

I'd personally prefer they improve the balance in the existing sets first and improve the pet ai before they continued to add more sets. I'd rather go to a restaurant and get a really good meal then go to one and get a triple sized helping of a mediocre one.
-
Quote:1. Don't like that either, but alas I like being sturdy. So was just a mention.I really don't like that you also need to get Kick before you can get Tough/Weave. It means I need to lose a lot of other powers.
I didn't know what it was.
Yup. I know Energy Mastery isn't the best choice. I also miss out on Gloom.
Hasten is about permanent with the build I just posted, it's at 123.9 seconds on 120 duration.
One thing I noticed, is that a lot of attacks now have a recharge near their cast time. Would that mean I could do with less attacks? It would completely change the build, as other powers would allow different enhancement sets.
Thanks.
2. Wasn't really criticizing just mentioning in case you hadn't looked at.
3. I know you're about perma hasten as is. Probably perma if you boosted the enhancements. More of a matter of if you wanted to plan around something like spiritual you could lose some of your recharge and build a bit for defense.
4. You could probably drop initial strike later in the build but I'm no attach chain expert.
5. Lastly, food for thought. You might want to consider the force feeback proc in spinning strike and achilles heel in shin breaker. -
Just a quick note or two about possible alternatives.
With kinetics/tough/weave, it's possible to get you to about 30% sl resist and 32% s/l defense. So one small purple should softcap.
The ato set is pretty cheap in comparsion to purples.
I tend to be a stickler for survivability as such I'm simply mentioning that soul mastery and darkest night would help. Just something to think of, I know you said you wanted your eyes to glow.
If you're planning for the long haul you might want to consider your alpha. Ie. with spiritual you can shift things around a bit and have perma hasten with the above defenses without, you'll need some more recharge.
Either way, glad you're enjoying. Mids is like a game unto itself -
Quote:Hmm since sets aren't an issueI started rolling a Dark Control/Psionic Assault Dominator over the weekend. So far she seems fun. Now playing around with MIDS to get a build I like. Never really got too far into a dominator build before and I'm thinking I need more slots. LOL.
Generally I don't fully Set IO out a toon, usually stick with common IOs and as I get them, or if I end up REALLY liking the character I'll start putting in set IOs.
So far thinking to take combat jumping, hasten, super speed, and burnout as pool powers. Then going with Psionic Mastery for the epic and taking Link Minds, Mind Over Body, and World of Confusion to boost up defenses and resistances some. Like I said though, its a work in progress.
Anyone have an suggestions on a decent fun build? I would like her to hold her own soloing as well as be good for teams. Not the best of all, but useful and first and foremost, FUN! As I said before, generally I don't fully IO out toons with set IOs and stick to the common IOs. Lately I've been more of a casual player so I don't have a ton of extra inf laying around, nor the desire to spend playing time working the markets or whatever to build the inf up to make the latest uber build. Maybe some frankenslotting options with some cheaper set IOs is open.
Also any suggestions on powers that I should skip or what the key powers are for the set?
Hasten is never bad
CJ for immobolize, you might want to splurge on a knockback io
I really like ice on my psi to give myself some more time for drain to work, and soften up annoying robots for epic pool
I've never used burnout, but I don't see a lot of super long recharge powers on dark
Oh and since I dont know what level you are. You can skip slotting psi dart. Blast, thrust, subdual, probe, should be enough single target. Might want to respec at 30 or so once you pick up sub though. -
It's mostly guessing. I wasn't trying to offend. I personally use a different setup so I have to kind of guess and just gave a general recommendation to binding. Generally looking at an mmo players screen I probably consider about 1/2 to be too cluttered, that might be a me thing, I'm a minimalist when it comes to screen real estate.
For example, I'd toss all your grey buttons, I'd pull with taunt when it was required or I'd make someone snipe it if a true pull was needed. Again, I'm not saying your way is wrong, only that I hate buttons with very situational uses.
You have jump pack and super jump, why? An honest question, how often do you use rest especially on a fire. Do you really need another melee attack that is unslotted for sands? Your answer to all these might be "YES I NEED!" but they're good sorts of questions to ask when thinking about cleaning up your ui.
Shrug, anyway. It was really just answering in general how to clean up your tray. And like the guy with a garage he can't put his car in I always suggest that people not hoard and decide what they really need. That is mostly up to you.
Depending on your key set up you might want to try moving any button you just rarely click on ala rest, maybe your portals, to a side bar and your toggles to another one. Kind of of like blacks screen. That way you've filed your abilities so to speak.
Your screen, what you feel comfortable with. Just my 2c -
That's okay because dark doesn't have all the tricks of fire either
Burn!!!Mawhaha, I love my fire/fire tank but I am aware of his limits. And I'll honestly say I avoid carnies just because they're annoying. I avoid koa for much the same reason. But nemesis are pretty easy which is a nice change from my plant controller. To me having kyrptonite enemy groups or mob types is actually kind of refreshing.
But I can also see the whole idea that the more tools you have the less such groups exist. Either way back to the op, sorry if you felt insulted, joking around. Glad you're enjoying, I could never get into .../dark so glad it still works for some. -
Take anything you don't use often and relegate to a tray that you can click on. Most armors, mission transporter, etc.
Decide which buttons you hit regularly or need to be able to hit quickly frequently. Even on my dominator I find that isn't much maybe 14-16 max.
Number the powers you chose from 1-whatever with the order of use
List the keys you use for your power in order of comfort to use. Eg which keys can your hand reach most easily, which are a bit of a stretch.
Match the two lists. I personally would learn to turn with a mouse for more precise control as well but that's just an aside to, how do you bind your powers.
I'd say you have a lot of powers you really don't need on the tray or, you really don't necessarily need bound so you can immediately hit the button. -
I'm pretty sure dechs just meant if you're not being forced to use all your tools you're not challenging yourself enough. And, I was mostly joking after 2xp of mostly farming council and I don't think choosing your enemies makes you a bad player but if you're going to be snarky about it.
Let me know how carnies, longbow, arachnos, etc etc work out for you.
Ignoring an advantage and then cherry picking what part of dechs post you would respond to ie you conveniently ignore the psi resist for example just makes you look bad. And if you start saying things like, well turning up my difficult won't add psi resist, or end drain, or fear or confuse or... then you are indeed cherry picking enemies to best suit you, the only thing wrong with it is pretending you're not. I certainly do. Unless you actually say, hmm for a good time I think I'll farm carnies tonight. In which case more power to yah. -
Quote:The whole game is full of cliches.
But Praetoria just looks alot different than Paragon City. Since I am unfamiliar with Praetoria, why wouldn't I want to level a WP/Regen brute there? I was actually thinking about a traditional SS/Invuln "Superman" build, playing it slow, getting into the RP side of it. I like brutes because most of the time I prefer playing solo. Not that I'm antisocial, but I find the pace to be quicker. Team play is alot of sitting around waiting for the leader to recruit and everyone to show up and I am only a part-time player so when I'm logged on I want to be in the middle of the action. The one exception is playing the market, which I find very entertaining.
Just the experience of going through the portal on Talos Island, into the Underground, and then up into First Ward... seeing this entire new area that I had never seen before and basically discovered by accident. It was very cool. But it is probably a different experience starting out in Praetoria.
Sounds like the best time to play. Pick a good all around char, start in praetoria. Either turn off and on xp or do a lot of ourboros. If you like the story, see if you can't get complete on both sides since you can side switch. It's been a while since I was there...but I didn't get the same since of wonderment, not that I'm criticizing I'm glad you did and hope you can continue with it.
My two praetoria toons were necro/dark, ss/wp. Both got through and first ward, so not saying, "absolutely impossible". Basically you fight 3 groups if I remember correctly and 1 one of them has a ton of -regen and I'm fairly certain the other had a fair bit. You can get through it, but it's a bit annoying. -
Or you're cherry picking like crazy.
"Yes my tank specializes in the farming of council missions" -
Hmm since you don't seem to be committed to any set let me just point you to:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=284356
later on the boards. Might help with some ideas. It depends partially on what you're looking for, solo mostly, group mostly, active, passive, leveling curve, incarnate abilities, etc. I look for chars that can do large groups early with a good leveling curve but that's me.
The general corruptor advice i see for new corruptors is
fire/dark
ice/time
fire/time
fire/cold
fire/kin
still see some fire/traps ... see the commonality? Really most sets you can make work, it really depends on what you want, and what you need, how patient you are, your budget, etc.
Edit: Also worth noting so I don't sound like a total min/maxer. Character concept and really what just seems fun or cool is important too, my chars live longest when I have some investiture in them creatively and I know who they are as a person as well as a mids export. I'm not a dedicated enough to play a nearly ineffective char just for concept but it's nice to have some balance. -
It means a lot of people will tell you it sucks because it isn't fire.
Hmm probably unfair.
A lot of people would tell it sucks even if fire didn't exist.
I like AR it has nice aoe in my eyes and I don't mind redraw.
But the mostly s/l the somewhat lacking single target, the lack of aim, full auto vs rain of arrows. Are all stuff that makes people suggest other things.
It's not my intention to talk you out of only that I didn't want to try to debate with others about whether the set sucked or not. -
As someone who is trying to make two cone heavy characters work, primarily solo
ar/traps
fortunata
I can tell that it's much easier to use cones if you can make mobs hold still, preferably away from melee.
So, rad is good
Ar is ar
But, it might be frustrating for a while trying to line up all those tasty cones with all the mobs rushing to melee you. -
Well are you trying to see these places for lore? For aesthetics?
In terms of leveling speed and ease best to worst its probably, blue, red, yellow. In general it seems the newer the content the more challenging.
For lore, I'm not sure. I generally find redside to have the most interesting writing I found praetoria to be very unininspired and often cliche, but in a game that often deals with moral absolutes those can be more common.
Since this is the brute forum I'll leave with, don't level a regen or wp brute in praetoria.
Edit: You can always ouroboros your way through the arcs later if you want to see. I'm not sure about praetoria on that...., but that way you could see most of the content if that's the goal.
