Quote:Hmmm...I haven't seen Inception yet. Any comment from anyone who has? There's some quacking on the web that film auteur Christopher Nolan's current blockbuster, "Inception," was inspired by, of all things, a 2004 Donald Duck comic book. Think about it for a second. That's like saying Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" was inspired by Beetle Bailey.
We can blame the discussion board Reddit, the always-smart I Watch Stuff and other blogs for spreading the notion last week.
In "Uncle Scrooge: The Dream of a Lifetime," the thieving Beagle Boys gang use a special machine to enter Scrooge McDuck's dreams and steal the combination to his safe. Donald Duck and his nephews find Scrooge and the thieves sleeping, and Donald must enter the dream to foil the plot. When someone falls in the dream, they immediately wake up. And if Scrooge is awakened before the Beagle Boys, both parties will be "doomed."
In "Inception," Leonardo DiCaprio is the leader of a team that enters other people's dreams to steal information. The dream thieves can only be snapped awake by a dramatic fall, called a "kick," to their body. On its most dangerous assignment, the team has to penetrate deeper into the dream world -- and risks being trapped in it.
There are a ton of dream-hopping films, such as the long-running "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series and (a personal favorite) the underrated 1984 cult classic "Dreamscape."
What makes "Inception" unique is that its twisty visuals make it more like a mental M.C. Escher drawing than a straight horror or action flick. The story is resonating with audiences: In three weeks, "Inception" has raked in nearly $500 million worldwide.
Nolan has been mum about his "Inception" influences, though he acknowledges his film has been compared to the dreamy 1961 mind-bender "Last Year at Marienbad" -- a movie he says he's never seen. Nolan also has said he worked on the "Inception" script for more than a decade -- which would be well before Scrooge's dream adventure was even published.
Nolan's "Inception" already has inspired quite a few parodies online. If you were to catch only one, however, see Dora the Explorer's "Incepcion", which could be construed as a cartoon based on a movie based on a comic. Not unlike a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream.

Hawking's right, but even getting off the Earth might not be enough. Because the universe is a dangerous and inhospitable place. We'd have to spread very, very far to ensure that one supernova wouldn't wipe us all out.

Oh, and Issue 75 has several full-page pics of the series' main characters and some zombies. They all look pretty good.
-
The series just published its 75th issue 2 weeks ago. Each TPB is 6 issues, the hardcovers are 12 issues each, the omnibus editions collect 24 issues in each and finally the compendium has the first 48 issues. There are 12 TPBs, which will get you up through issue 72.
Edit: Oh, and I almost forgot: squeeeee!!! This is looking better and better! I can't wait! -
I address you tonight not as a Sleestack, not as a player of City of Heroes, but as a poster on the forums. We are faced with the very gravest of challenges. The Mods call this day "Forumgeddon" - the end of all things. And yet, for the first time in the history of the interwebs, a forum community has the Youtube links and LOLcats to prevent its own extinction. All of you posting with us need to know that everything that can be done to prevent this disaster is being called into service. The forumites' thirst for excellence, knowledge; every step up the ladder of quote pyramids; every adventurous reach into the Suggestions and Ideas forum; all of our combined modern technologies and imaginations; even the flame wars that we've fought have provided us the tools to wage this terrible battle. Through all of the chaos that is our history; through all of the wrongs and the discord; through all of the pain and suffering; through all of our times, there is one thing that has nourished our souls, and elevated our forum above its origins, and that is our courage. The dreams of an entire MMO are focused tonight on those brave souls traveling into the forums. And may we all, forumites the world over, see these events through. God speed, and good luck to you.

R.I.P. Ms. Neal. Not many people get to utter such an iconic line that's still remembered 50 years later.

The sad thing is, you used to be able to do this. A few months after I started the game a friend joined, and for his birthday I bought the GvE item pack and just gave him the code. He applied it and all was good.

Quote:I would have loved to see this play out in the courts. If I had to bet Marvel's lawsuit would have been thrown out. Marvel was attempting to blame the tool maker(NC Soft) and not the people actually 'infringing'(the users). But it was in their best interest to settle since it saved them probably a few million and it was definitely in Marvel's best interest because they didn't really have anything to gain from the lawsuit but stood to lose a bunch of it got thrown out.
I believe that Marvel was willing to settle the suit because when they created Wolverine in the costume creator and logged into the game, they agreed to the EULA which then gave NCSoft the rights to Wolverine. NCSoft probably pointed this out to Marvel and said, "Look, if you drop your lawsuit, we'll agree to police our game to remove copy characters. If you don't drop your suit, we'll pursue our claim on Wolverine...because you guys essentially gave him to us." -
Quote:That is pretty cool. I had to read the comments and look at the pic a bit more closely to realize that he did it with a long exposure and traced the Batman symbol with a flare or something like that. Nicely done!

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can 'ni' at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress at this period in history.

Quote:Oh crap, he/she/it's CANADIAN!You people have given me a good deal of information to go through here. Its a long weekend in Canada and I will be attempting the game starting tonight.
I want to say how grateful I am to each of you for taking the time to reply to my questions. I have read each one and have taken something from every reply. I would like to respond to each of them, but haven't that much time. I will be referencing this thread over the next couple of days. I will continue to check in for anymore posts.
I can certainly say this much, if the gameplay is a match for the excellent community I have seen on these forums, subscription will indeed be a no brainer.
So glad that I posted!
*quickly scans back through thread*
Whew, it looks like we didn't give out any of the restricted information.
We dodged a bullet this time people, but let's be more careful in the future!
j/k. We love Canucks here.

So, somebody did this on a bridge support:

Apparently someone just put this up recently. I really love Austin!
Edit: Crap! This is one of those picture viewers that won't let you link directly to the pic (at least I can't figure out how to do it). Just click through the pics, the pertinent one is #6. -
Saw this the other day with my son, and we both loved it! My favorite part was when the car gets thrown at Batman, and I was expecting him to leap out of the way. I giggled like a little girl when he jumped through the passenger window, through the car and out the driver's window and attacked the guy who threw it. Awesome!

Quote:Short answer: not necessarily.Checking it now!
One other thing. I believe that I have the basic city of heroes version that came out on release. Am I better to re-sub or purchase the going Rogue complete expansion on the 17th of August. I also understand the architect edition is another expansion pack. Will I want to have all of these in order to get the fullest gameplay out of the game?
Longer answer: the version you have gives access to all of "the game" as it exists right now, both hero and villain sides. There are some perks, quality of life powers and/or costume pieces you can get with the various editions, but nothing that is required to play the full game.
That said, there are some nice little items you can get with the various editions - check ParagonWiki for more detail on each of the editions and what comes with them. Also, you typically get a month's gameplay with each edition, which can offset the cost. For example, I found a copy of the Collector's Edition at BigLots for $10. It came with a month of gameplay when I registered the code. The month of gameplay is worth $15, so I basically got all the perks in the edition, and a month of gameplay for $5 less than a month of gameplay alone.
Some of the editions are a bit difficult to find, such as the aforementioned Collector's Edition.
There are also Booster Packs that you can buy from the NCStore. They cost $10 each. They give various costume pieces, emotes, a temp poewer and some other perks. Each Booster Pack is themed around one of the Origins (Natural, Science, Tech, Mutation, Magic). They are fun, but not required to play the game. None of these gives a month of gameplay.
If you want to access the new areas and such with Going Rogue, you will need to purchase the expansion. -
I'm the fastest Master of my Domain. Does that count?

Here's the one I post every time this topic (or something like it) comes up:
Everyday Superhero by Smashmouth
The song even talks about Day Jobs!
I would love so see a CoH video set to this song. -
Lets see...
Once I was on a Safeguard, about level 12 or so, when a friend logs on and sends me a tell asking what's going on. Now, this SG was a real trainwreck. People were all over the map, the leader wasn't calling them to the bank and at this point I had already faceplanted about 3 times. So I replied to my friend, "Oh, nothing much. Just getting killed repeatedly by this crappy team I'm on." Only of course, it wasn't to my friend, but in team chat. AWKward!
Another wasn't so much a mistell as a...well...it's funny I think.
I was on a team with friends/SG mates, when my wife needed some help with something. So I type in chat, "BRB wife aggro", then turn around to see that my wife had not actually left the room as I had thought.
Wife: What did you just say to them about me?!?!
Me: *tries to explain "aggro" and how it's actually quite funny and...honey? Honey? Aw, c'mon, don't be mad...*
When I got back into the game, I told my team that my wife saw the chat and asked what "wife aggro" meant.
Teammate: What did you tell her?
Me: Well, I didn't think she would understand "aggro", so I though fast and told her it means she's fat.
Another teammate: ROFLMAO!!
Another teammate: Too funny!
Me: Whew! Dodged a bullet on THAT one! -
I use this:
/bind <key> "em flypose1$$em flypose2$$em flypose3$$em flypose4"
This will cycle through the flyposes with repeated presses of the bound key.
Also, you can reset to the "basic" flypose by taking a screenshot with /screenshot. I found this out while taking screenshots of characters flying in the various flyposes. -

*Uncontrollably and mindlessly KBs thread*
Oops, my bad. -
I love KB. My first 50 is an Energy/Energy blaster. I love making the bad guys fly all over the place, it is one of the most super feeling things in the game IMHO.
I actually would love it if CoH did KB like Champions Online. That was one of the few things that CO did really well IMHO. My Might character (Super Strength is the CoH equivalent) could KB enemies about 50 or 60 feet back, and about the same distance up in the air...and they would take damage when they landed. One of my favorite things to do was get a bad guy down to about 1/4 health, the do a big KB attack and they would be defeated by the falling damage. Now that was epic! -
Every dead thread that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and trolls. The people it trolls get up and troll.
