    Well, none of the analogies are really applicable.

    The fact remains: Need to buy X in order to get to Y does not mean that buying X means you are also buying Y. It just means there's no way to get Y without buying X. Necessary and sufficient conditions are not the same thing!

    Look...

    It does not matter. They have been 100% crystal clear about this from the very first day that there was any discussion of the existence of a not-paying option. Incarnate system? Not part of it.

    There is NO point at which ANYONE misled you, lied to you, deceived you, or acted in any way that could possibly lead to a reasonable person thinking that incarnate content was available, ever, by any means, to a non-VIP.

    If you want to gripe that they said something which obviously had a few weird exceptions, or that the "you keep the stuff you paid for" language is grossly oversimplified, fine, gripe about that. But they have been absolutely crystal clear that incarnate content was VIP-only, period, for all time. They have been totally unambiguous.

    "They said we would get this and we don't" is a totally stupid complaint.
    "Their claim that you get what you paid for is oversimplified and does not reflect the nuances of access to certain features" is a perfectly reasonable complaint, but it's not an interesting one because of course it's oversimplified.

    How many character slots would I get if I reverted to premium? Would I get all the character slots I currently have? No? OH NO THEY ARE NOT GIVING ME SOMETHING I PAID FOR. Whatever. It's been pretty clear all along.

    No. VIPs receive it as part of their subscription.

    Then the premium players that PAID for incarnate access are worse off if they can't access incarnate content.
    But no one paid for incarnate access except as part of a subscription. People may have paid for a thing other than incarnate access which was necessary in order to get the incarnate access which is bundled with a sub, but that's different.

    Unless you have a receipt that says "Incarnate Access", you didn't pay for incarnate access.

    No.

    There is an Arby's near my home town, but it is too far to walk. You HAVE to have a car to go to Arby's. However, that does not mean that by buying a car you are buying Arby's.

    You were buying a prerequisite for that access; getting a prerequisite for something isn't the same as getting that thing.
  6. 1. Keep your 10% defense buff up.
    2. Hit things until they fall down.
  7. Highest tier is about 2.5 IOs worth of enhancement at level 50, give or take. You have 5 things you want red, so that's 12.5 single-aspect IOs worth of enhancement. You have 6 slots. A quad-aspect IO is 1.75 IOs, so you have at most 6*1.75 =~ 10.5 IOs worth of bonuses.

    So no, it's not possible. If you could find all quads, you'd have enough enhancement to come pretty close to 80% in everything (maybe a bit over), but obviously it'd be too much in some things and not enough in others.

    Imagine that you had five quads, one lacking each of the five aspects you want. Each quad would be 1.75/4 of that 42ish percent base, or about... Hmm. 18.5%. So those five quads would give you 74% in everything, and another would get you to about 92% in four aspects.

    But you can't actually get quads for everything, or even all that many things. You can probably get a decent mix of triples, and a triple at level 50 is 21.2% in each of three aspects. So six triples would get you up to, in principle, 63.6% in two aspects and 84.8% in three.

    Not really.

    We all get access to those new mechanics (even people who didn't buy GR) now.

    However, that doesn't mean we have access to all the things which use those mechanics, especially not the ones which came out since GR.

    Realistically, they've made it pretty clear that Incarnate content is VIP-only all along, it makes obvious sense for the line to be drawn there... Worst case, they are guilty of not spending enough time clarifying all the exact ways in which they define "things you bought", but really...

    When I started my account, I had 12 character slots, so I must have "bought" 12 character slots, BUT I ONLY GET TWO IF I GO F2P WTF AAAAAA. Yeah, that.

    Might buy a mac!

    Huh, could be the environment -- I was just standing idly somewhere, I hadn't gone into a mission, which indeed might improve performance. It is the 2.13. And I have video settings other than resolution fairly low -- shadows off, reflections off, ambient occlusion off, water off, and so on.
  10. Some thoughts:

    1. Masterminds lose a whole lot of their functionality without their T3 pet, and/or with only one of the T2 pets.
    2. From what I've heard, very few characters or builds would have a hope of doing this content at 10, making the invitation to try it at 10 sort of questionable.

    It seems to me that tuning this for 20-30 might have produced a more pleasant experience; people wouldn't be getting into it at a level when they really do lack most of their functional abilities, and people who had levelled to their T9 primary power wouldn't be trying to do without it.

    It doesn't strike me as "weasel words" to point out that GR had a feature list, and that feature list does not contain "incarnate system".

    The world is full of things gated by a given purchase but not included with it.
  12. Necessary and sufficient are not the same thing. Buying something is an expenditure of money sufficient to get it.

    I can't listen to a CD without buying speakers. That doesn't mean that, when I buy speakers, that means I have bought the CD too.

    If I bought GR, and then didn't subscribe, I didn't have access to incarnate content. Incarnate content was a separate system, added separately. It was not on the feature list of Going Rogue.

    FWIW, my 2010 13" air can't clear about 22fps at native resolution with any settings I've yet tried. I'd be interested in comparing settings. And yes, geometry buffers are disabled, and it claims to be a 320M.

I wish there was a Windows PC as smooth and quiet as an Air, but as long as one company makes the software and another the hardware, that will never happen.
    Huh, maybe I have settings wrong. Or forgot to turn off geometry buffers. I was getting pretty low settings.

    ... To be fair, the Acer still runs rings around it, but maybe smaller rings. (Heck, the Acer can run RIFT.)
  17. For hardware upgrades? You ought to know what you're doing and when at LEAST a week in advance.

    That's not to say I agree that there's "no reason" for the late notice. Obviously, there was a reason for it. My guess is that the reason is that the people running the servers did not know themselves, because they screwed up some aspect of the capacity planning.

    What we've seen is:
    * hardware upgrades
    * move to new location
    * more hardware upgrades

    That speaks of "poor planning". A good solution would likely have been
    * set up new machines at new location
    * transfer data

    If they'd planned the new machines out correctly, and known about the location move, this would be the obvious way to get everything done with ONE downtime. That they didn't suggests strongly that something went wrong.

    My experiences with Paragon have been pretty positive. My experiences with ncsoft's running of their store and suchlike... not so positive.
  18. I don't expect compensation.

    That said... I sorta think it reflects well on an MMO when they give some compensation, even if it's just a bonus day here and there. Or maybe Paragon Points.
  19. Was hoping to lighten the mood a bit, people are sorta jumping on each other and I don't think it really helps.
  20. What part of the claim needs "testing"? That illusion gets front-loaded damage which fades over longer fights? That this would have more impact on weak opponents than on strong ones?

  22. I would say it's pretty obvious that AE votes are meaningless at this point. About all you can conclude from them is that people started the arc. We don't even know whether they ever entered a mission, I don't think.
  23. In general, I dismiss requests for compensation for MMO downtime, but I gotta say -- this is exceptional downtime, as such goes.
  24. I set up a fire farm map which doesn't offer insanely great rewards, merely decent rewards. No ambushes or anything. I go beat on it for a while, then convert tickets to stacks of alchemical silver, which I dump on the market at 1 inf. I can do this while chatting with friends, so it's relaxing.

    Consider what the current algorithm would, in the absence of a cap, make of a minion who had two full attack sets with every power selected.

    Who cares? They get one shot, then they're dead.
