  1. Well, in that case: I invite people to join me in continuing to dump alchemical silvers on the market so we can find out where that number is.
  2. I was power-levelling a couple of alts, so I was dumping 300-500 alchemical silvers a night a couple nights in the last week. I never once got a single sale under 25,555. I may have another go at this. I'm still pretty much viewing "turn everything into alchemical silver and dump" as a nice default use of tix. It's not super cost-effective, but I think it's fun, and maybe someday it'll have some kind of marginal impact.

    Or not.

I'd love to see whether we could actually make a significant dent, but I am pretty sure at this point that the answer is in practice "no". Or rather, it's not if someone knows we're trying to do it and is trying to buy up the slack.
  3. The only time I'll generally accept blind invites is if I'm logged in on Helpy McHelperson, grav/storm troller. And I am pretty nice, and I will ask, once, if people meant to do that.

    Then I help them.
  4. I've played games that fix things quickly and games that wait for patch days. I prefer quick fixes.
  5. It's a little more subtle than that -- yes, it's every 10 seconds, but that really means five checks in 45 seconds (0,10,20,30,40). And there is some front-loading to that.

But yeah, every 10 seconds. Not usually all that rewarding, but it can be worth it with stuff like chance for knockdown.
  6. I do find this very frustrating. I like experimenting, and CoH's very limited supply of respecs punishes experimentation. I can't think of a build, do the math, and then try it for a few days to see whether it works in practice the way I thought it would in theory, unless I feel like spending a hundred mil or waiting for freespecs. So I tend to have conservative builds that I know are probably fine, and not try powers that I might really enjoy but which some people say aren't good choices, because if I pick a power that turns out to be useless, I'm stuck with it.

It's definitely a negative part of my experience. I'd probably mind a lot less if respecs were cheaper, such as if more of them dropped. (And I do think that the increase in number of respec recipes sold would make up for the decrease in inf sink per recipe.)
  7. I've been considering what impact this might have on our forum community, and I'd like to propose a small modification. I think there should be a rule against calling any poster other than Golden Girl a troll. Calling Golden Girl a troll has become a forum rite of passage, and it's really part of our unique cultural distinctiveness at this point. I don't think whether or not she is actually a troll has any bearing on this; it's just a matter of community history at this point. We can't have a rule against calling Golden Girl a troll any more than we can have a rule against referring to Arcanaville whenever people argue about the defense cap.

What method do you use for picking out Arcs? Do you just go with the 1st one that sounds good? I tried doing that but most often ended up getting a poorly disguised farm.
I search for not voted, my level, 3-4 stars, and the keyword "SFMA", which most of the authors seem to use for "Story Focused Mission Arc", which is a fancy way of saying "not a farm".

I've been really impressed by how many excellent stories there are in this system. At this point, my sense is that there are more good stories in MA arcs written by players than there are in the dev-provided content, numerically -- it's just hard to find them.
  9. Silly question:

What's wrong with "thread necromancy"? Who is harmed by it, and how? I always thought it was the logical alternative to people posting threads without using the search feature.

People are supposed to look for existing threads when possible. Sometimes those existing threads are old. So what?
  10. Do you prefer buffing your friends or debuffing your enemies? Both can be fun, but they suggest different sets. Also, control is a kind of a support in some cases, but it's a very different support. Similarly, a widow or SoA can provide a HUGE buff with the leadership-equivalent powers.

As is the case with all forums rules, enforcement is at our discretion.
The thing I want most is the ability to say "in <Game X>, they've added a feature where <...>, that'd be awesome". Note that Game X's forums allow me to point out awesome features in CoH that they should add.

... That said, having read some of the direct comparison threads other forums get, I can see not being super enthused about them.
  12. The one-click-away thing is why I have my links pointed to "English" rather than to "City of Heroes Forums".

Maybe make more use of vB's expand/collapse heading functionality, which I seem to recall it has some of?

    Can I cry now?

    Basic problem:

You will always get more rewards punching lots of dudes quickly than you will reading clues.

I don't think that can be changed, but as long as it's true, AE farms will be more rewarding (mechanically) than AE story arcs, and therefore, either AE farms will be more rewarding than regular play, or AE story arcs will be less rewarding than regular play, or both.

I don't actually think that's intrinsically bad -- the problem is that the farms and story arcs are competing for attention.

I am currently starting to lean towards "devs should just separate the categories in some way, and make it easier for people to find the content they want".
  14. I am not a big fan of archetype merges, just because... well, there's a lot of stuff where dominator answers and troller answers are very very different. At the same time... It might not hurt to have some role-related forums.

Basically, I might have questions about a brute, whom I want to use both for tanking and for soloing. Those questions will not be well served by a tanking forum. But I might have some questions about aggro mechanics, which I care about on both a brute and a tanker. That might not be well served only by archetype-specific forums.

If you have to go one way or the other, I'd say stick with the archetype-specific forums and one general archetypes/powers forum. I can't immediately think of a good way to reduce the number of forums without making those forums less useful.

    ETA:

Okay, other topics. Hmm. I don't like the player help vs. other subsets of stuff, I can never find things. I often miss stuff in CoH Life because it's on the other side of the AT forums. Also, because I only really have the one working natural language, I tend to use the "English" header as my forum link -- so I dont' see stuff that's in the top level adjacent to it, but that includes things like the beta forum threads.

There's a lot of forums here, but I'm not sure there are too many -- they're really mostly pretty useful forums which seem topically interesting. I can usually find a good forum to post in, and get interesting responses.
  15. Oh! I inferred (not sure why) that that was nasty PMs from forum mods or Paragon staff, not just random players who aren't directly involved.
  16. We have effective damage mitigation, and regeneration continues in combat, meaning that healing is often completely unnecessary. This can be a bit of a shock to get used to, to put it mildly.
  17. It's at least moderately common, I've seen people comment on being teamed with him because they recognized the handle.

    Taser

    Warning Extreme Danger
Keep out of Reach of Children

The first two lines are mixed case, and you can recognize words by patterns of ascenders and descenders.

Didn't make 20, as there were some shortish missions, but the writing was delightful. Very well done. Silly, and fourth-wall-breaky, so if those bug you steer clear, but if you like that kind of humor when it's well done, well. This was well done.

Next up: My Science Project (#219014).

Was cool. Neat story, lots of cool stuff to read. Last mission was a bit slow because I spent basically the whole time fighting Anathemas, and without mez protection, that meant a lot of time spent making sure I had confusion up, etc.

Up next: "The Most Evil Crime Ever. Really." (#307252). Will likely make 20.

Right, level 19 now, three-slotted PA (put in some lowbie call to arms since they were cheap). Up next: Lesbian Hellion Liberation (#208830). Comedy sounds fun right about now. There's a dire warning about bosses, so I may get myself sorta whupped, but PA will help a lot with that.

Converted a bunch of tickets to alchemical silvers. In the IO part of the world, got a bid out on a miracle +recovery proc and some more out on kismet accuracy procs. Gonna be revisiting some of my other enhancements in a bit -- still got a lot of level 15s that I could benefit from upgrading.

Edited: Whoops, the !@*#ing filter has eaten that arc. Repicked Dream Paper (#1874).

I've come back from a long absence and found money waiting for me. Dunno when the sales were, though.

Got distracted by I21. When I came back, "Going Rogue" gave me "AEBadDoorError" or something like that, but I restarted it and it went well. Fun and well-written, I enjoyed it.

Notice the difference: Two of these are things you bought, one of them is a thing unlocked by a thing you bought.

Now, do I think premium players should have full access to the system? No, that wouldn't be a good idea. However, I think it someone has paid for GR on the basis it was needed to play incarnates, they are entitled to some access.
I propose they get access to all of the incarnate features that were available when GR was released. That is the incarnate content that is part of GR, which they purchased. Incarnate content that was added in later issues would be VIP-only.

The destroyer attack on TPN was Way Too Hard for me to solo on my stalker. No AoE damage output at all, and not enough defense/regen to handle the swarms. Well, way too hard to solo at level. Picking up an extra level made it pretty livable.
