% procs and caltrops!
Based on procs on my earth/ troller (wich have similar effect as caltrops), it has a continues tick. Basicly each 'tick' (be it damage, or chance to) the proc can trigger again. I have the -res from defense debuff in my quicksand, wich seems to continues work on mobs inside or getting inside the quicksand.
Although i wonder how psuedo pets work with procs such as the knockdown +100% recharge bonus on earthquake, since it is the pet that cast the knockdown, i gues i wont be getting that 100% recharge bonus.

How do enhancements that have a %proc work with caltrops? Is it every damage tick? Is the the first damage tick? The first damage tick per enemy? I'm thinking caltrops slotted with a whole bunch %+Damage would ridiculousness. Also, the %Knockdown from Ragnarok would help caltrops control. Any of these idea's viable?

Each Damage proc averages out 1.4 damage per second at level 50 (but since they do chunks of 70 damage it's in practice better than just saying "an extra 1.4 DPS")

Volcanic Gasses and Acid Mortar are slightly better because they summon a pet which actively casts a power. So they'll have a chance to proc every time that pet/pseudopet fires off it's attack (ditto with things like Spectral Terror and Lightning Storm)
It's a little more subtle than that -- yes, it's every 10 seconds, but that really means five checks in 45 seconds (0,10,20,30,40). And there is some front-loading to that.
But yeah, every 10 seconds. Not usually all that rewarding, but it can be worth it with stuff like chance for knockdown.
Nope, one check on everyone in the AOE every 10 seconds. Can Quicksand take Defense IOs? I thought only Quake could?

The 'tick' i indeed mean the 10sec tick. (like +recovery proc in stamina, each 10sec).

I have always wondered if adding damage enhancements to caltrops and other rain powers actually does anything at all. I have gone up to 120%+ including Alpha musculature and it still ticks for 2 each time. And I don't see it last longer because of damage or tick faster.
Does damage do anything or is the only way to get more damage to put in a proc?

A proc on the other averages 1.4 DPS, so each proc is basically adding 50% extra damage to the power (actually it's kinda nicer than that because rather than a trickle of 1.4s you get the occasional 70 hitting an enemy).
The fact that you hit an enemy for 70 every now and then is probably better on teams than the damage from the power itself

Knockdown proc? NOW we're talking. Keep them IN my caltrops. Plus it's just funny. If weapon customization ever gets as far as stuff like caltrops, we're going to need some banana peels.

I recently slotted Sleet in my Illusion/Cold with 2 Recharge and the Achilles Heel Resist Debuff proc, Posi Blast proc, Lady Grey proc and Impeaded Swiftness proc. It adds a fair amount of damage over a large area. Procs add a LOT more damage than slotting the power for damage.

Thanks for the feedback and tips. I know the big ones I have seen to higher ticks. Blizzard and rain of fire. But, like ice patch or caltrops SAY they have doubled the damage, but I still see the same ticks.
I'll have to experiment a bit.
@Zem, I also found slotting a bit of slow into caltrops is worth it. I have two slow/end/recharge, two damage procs, ragnarok, and posi damage/recharge on my stalker. The improved slow combined with knockdown is very effective.
