Quote:and worthy of you posting, apparently. An MMO gamer making fun of a person who is not very familiar with MMOs is clever, funny and thread-worthy.
edit: silver, was that cute little neg-rep for you? i thought you were better than that. at least sign it like a man. -
Quote:heh, understood, but really try to avoid this mindset, it will drive you nuts, and its origins are really fairly petty. people pled to 50 after issue 3and we had as many knuckleheads with khelds then as we do now with the change. someone is going to be a good player or not, no prerequisite is going to ensure a quality player, they can all be circumvented, just play well and your skills will prove you earned your eat, as opposed to the dead kheld over there with all the MA badges.ALL THE THINGS BEING SAID ARE VERY TRUE.
I agree with them all, a bad player is a bad player regardless. I guess for me, someone who has been playing a kheldian since issue 3, I hate seeing the early reward system. Perhaps I am more upset that it belittles what i have done, I don't know. but thanks for letting me vent about it
EDIT for clarification. not saying you are petty, just the feeling is petty. -
you mention the counter argument in your post. putting the "carrot" of the epic at's just encouraged people to pl to 50 to unlock them. they still had no idea how to play their characters. The reward at 50(before we find out what the incarnate system is) is having enjoyed playing a character for the time it took to get to 50, that is why this is a game, if you need incentivized to play to 50 then you might not be enjoying the game.

ok sam, here is a shot i got from a modding site, the textures were updated versus vanilla, but it gives youa shot of how they handled it, and the meshes are the same.
also, yeah, i was playing co yesterday, trying to do a new "full dragon" costume for rian, and yeah, the digi legs look spindly in beast stance, and since he is a martial arts framework character...they look really oddly with the kicks, they kind of do here as well. the ideal would be something that looks like a raptor, but a raptor would run really oddly in context of how our heroes move, im not sure they could move sideways very well, given how the hips seem oriented toward very fast forward motion than sideways.
hey wow-ers, how do draeni do it? they seem to have longer shins. -
given the current market share of manga in the comic industry, i think that we can spare a bit more influence than just a few costume bits and gender locked shoulder options. the stylization is a valid possibility for aesthetic influence, but just making an "anime" pack would likely be significantly limited and miss a lot of what the hardcore fans would have in mind. the arabian nights theme, while it may not be the most culturally accurate representation, would likely be able to be addressed well in a pack without too many wallbanger exclusions.

sam, perhaps for am more mainstream game, remember morrowind? that sold very well and the argoninans and kajiit were both digitigrade. that was how i first heard the term, when oblivion changed them, much to many fan's dismay. the bad news of course is that part of why they were changed is because in morrowind they did cause a lot of extra animations needed, and they generally looked worse.

eh, different strokes and all, but I liked the idea that they minimized the level treadmill stupidity. you could focus on setting up good skill decks and complimentary weapons instead of hopping in a gerbil wheel for 2-3 months at a pop. frankly i wish more games would get rid of the arbitrary and silly leveling system and make character progression more fluid.
as for the anime pack, while i think people with spa's reaction are bing narrow minded and silly and possibly bigoted, anime is not a single genre. it encompasses Japanese historic settings, ultratech future settings, modern settings, and pretty much everything in between, there is no "anime" or "manga" per se, there is a stylization that may or may not look out of place put in coh's existing art style, but i think looking at the stylization that you find in various animes, I wouldnt mind if they went for that, things like the insanely decorated armors of langrisser, the elobarate robotic looking sets of ghost in the shell, or the miko and onimyoji robes from historical and supernatural anime, or especially the very elaborate gothic looks from several vampire and supernatural anime, then yeah, but i'm not sure you could really distill anime into a "Style" anymore than you could have a hollywood movie pack. -
well, supposedly i13 was to be part of a larger pvp revamp, but that never really materialized. at this point my take is to revert to 12 until they have the full resources available to do a full job on it and let the small but dedicated population have what they seemed to enjoy back in the day(id dial back travel supression too, they enjoyed zipping around, let em). It is a small group, and it likely wont get any bigger, it really is kind of late in the day to try to make this game appealing to the roving hardcore pvpers who tried and subsequently left conan, war and maybe darkfall, they just aren't coming but unless they are going to commit to a full revamp, maybe just go with an appeasement philosophy. heck, if they have the extra resources, making the zones server independant, so we can get zones with 2-4 teams of each faction in them would make zone pvp a lot more fun for people who used to enjoy casual zone pvp, like i did when it first launched.

I'd imagine the issue is that demons work as generic bad guys, wether your character is religious or not. but fighting angels would be problematic for some people (despite the fact that demons are, by abrahamic sources, angels who took to freelance work) and having angels as contacts might bother some people as an endorsement of religion. now there are player character angels out the wazoo, particularly after wings came ingame, but i can see the rational behind the hands off approach, even if id prefer they had some angels.
oh and there is one mention of angels ingame that i recall. the safeguard/mayhem character "fallen from grace" is said to be "once considered akin to the angels" before being captured and driven insane. -
hey majora, i recognize ya. funny thing is, a lot of old timers are still here, kind of the super-regulars, so you will see some old faces.

ok, norton sent me 4 warnings for those links. just saying.

check out the video from pax-east, there is a set coming with going rogue that may do some of what you want. its called kinetic melee and the animator mentioned that he used tai-chi chuan as a basis for some of its moves. beyond that, current martial arts also has alternate animations, the original animations are reminiscent of korean karate, roundhouse kicks, side kicks, a big flying back kick, the axe kick, but it also has alternate animations for a more brawlerish character. I have been suggesting now and then for them to add animations based on styles like capoeria, muai thai and "movie" kung-fu, but one should be reasonable about expectations. animations are time consuming and putting a ton of work into a single set is going to pay off in limited dividends, but we will see, check out the kinetic melee vid though, it may be what you need.

when i cant think of anything more for their stories. I'm a continuing bio nut, and while at lulls at work, i have enough material for rian, violet and all for several comic stores worth of stuff(and i strongly suspect sturgeon would have an accurate measure of a lot of its quality) but until i get tired of reading their continuing adventures in my head, never. plus you never know when jay and co might toss me another great costume bit that helps their concept even more. I just update a lot of their looks with issue 17's tail fix, something else could make as big a impact(maybe back details?)

i'd like it, but the tech seems unlikely. Would LOVE it though.

Quote:nor are there supermarkets, fire stations, busses, malls, children...you get my driftYeah I'm going to agree with Wendy here. In general video game companies try to avoid any explicit mentions of real world religions. Fantasy worlds have their own made up theology but for worlds in a modern setting the easiest solution is simply to avoid all mention of theology. For example there aren't (as far as I can recall) any places of worship whatsoever in Paragon City .
. they do avoid stepping on any landmines, though in one mission, you fight the praetorain woodsman by using holy water to consecrate the bones of the dead that has been blessed"by one of paragon's many clergy" so they are somewhere.

ok well, we know nothing, not even that is officially being worked on. we do know that a number of high ranking employees here have been moved to unspecified projects, and the name was registered, which could be a red herring , or it could be a smoking gun, like when tes fans found out about shivering islands long before it was officially announced. so speculation is pretty strong that it will be, but we know exactly nothing.

still, even a batman level incompetant court system wouldnt be releasing the guys back on the streets as fast as we could clean them up, and after being pounded by an 8 foot tall robot who launched your butt into orbit with a ko blow, or some psycho woman in a leotard who set you on fire, would you really be inclined to go back an risk that again to spraypaint some walls and do petty purse thefts? I suspect some fellows may retire after the first beating based on simple self preservation.

Quote:it is? not calling you out but could you point me to some links? outside of arachnos guys like arbiter sands and the blood widow, who else mentions teleporting? usually when there is text, ti indicates we have arrested the named enemies, and it seems unlikely that the fodder have escape teleporters versus the guys in charge, so i had always assumed it was presented that you arrested all the enemies in the mission(blueside at least).Well, it is effectively canon that pretty much all villain factions, even the simple gangs, have access to medical care of some sort. Whether hi-jacked medi-ports, homemade medi-ports, or Zig medi-ports, virtually all villain groups using living human recruits have some sort of contingency plan to survive death (at least on the blue-side. Not sure how all those Hellions and Skulls survive in the Rogue Isles).
Couple with that the likely possiblity that even after the Rikti invasions, the population of Paragon City is likely in the millions. Let's pull a random, and rather small number: Say about 5 million. Let's argue that 1 million of those are too old, and 2 million are too young to be part of any of the villain groups. Then let's say only 10% of the remaining pool have chosen to live their lives of crime. That's still 200,000 people. That's not including villains who immigrate (such as Malta personnel).
as for your number of people consider how many enemies you drop in a single mission if you are running with a full group. with a few hous every day, you and your friends could totally clean out 200,000 enemies, in a few weeks and you arent the only hero on the street. Also, on a good night you could drop a good percentage of them, including bosses and lieutenants , I don't see street gangs having the internal structure to redistribute jobs within the gamgs that fast to make up for that kind of attrition, unless gangers in paragon are a lot brighter than gangers in real life are, usually internal fighting happens when gangs lose key organizational figures. often leading to splintering and inter factional warring for old territory.
like i said, it is a game mechanic, hellions and skulls are effectively giant rats and spiders, that is why i avoid looking too deeply at the gameworld, because it has to conform to the gameplay, and that leads to some very odd situations. -
hmm, i wouldnt say that seth had no ptterns, on his second form, you had to watch for him to do the double sonic boom or dahlsim punch and usually you could pick a few hits at him. he is nowhere near the spirit crushing orichi characters from the kof series.
-
I have generally waved a lot of it off as game mechanics forcing some odd situations to translate to real life. look at it this way, considering the average population of even a large city, would there be enough disaffected young males (remember, no female skulls or hellions) to support the density that they have in game? how about if the 5th column numbers are right about how many of a hundred or thousand candidates they accept into the raseri corps? at a certain level i plow through over a hundred of them, the idea that they would have an applicant density to make up for that jsut gets silly given the number of spawns an average player drops in a single night of play, let alone when teamed. heck, why does anyone even come to paragon or not leave with the possibility of being sacrificed to evil supernatural forces by the circle or chopped up by the vahzilok? and how does it support the population density with that much homicide? lets ignore the no kids thing for a second and realize that quite a lot makes no sense, but fulfills a mmo convention that the consumers apparently aren't comfortable deviating from. sometimes the game acts in a way that doesn't really support any in depth thought, it just is.

well, in real life there are a lot less oppertinuties to kick people in the head and be looked upon kindly for it. but I do tend to approach adversity in a scrapperish mindset. Find the problem, attack the problem till i find its source, and utterly eliminate the issue. I also tend to be a fairly good note taker and like being in a mentoring role for new hires/kids/inexperienced people, and ingame i tend to find myself clamping on to new players and getting them acclimated. Why waste everyone's time with issues if you can train the out of the inexperienced? get em to the fun faster. I also tend to be someone who likes to hop in when people need help, and ingame i will often answer a pug cry just because that is a call for help, and i just go in. subtlety is not, as you may gather, my main strong point. finally i tend to wear tie dye a lot and bright colors, that is well reflected ingame.

Quote:was debating giving you a negative rep for this as a joke, but figured it might actually cause green light damage and would have felt bad about that.Forum Rep was intended to be a forum-wide game. I tend to take it seriously but I am, admittedly, an anomaly. If you find it affects you, I would keep it switched off. It's not intended to be taken sincerely either way.
As a tip, in serious discussions, you will get neg-repped for disagreeing with people. Don't post in serious debates unless you're willing to pay the rep.
to green, don't take it too hard, i have tried to pop your rep up a few times, but one thing jumps out. please don't do blocks of text like you did in the first post here. People red rep for neatness(guess how i know that) so that may be an issue, give your posts a once over after finishing them and that may help a little, some of your posts are kind of sloppy, and some will red you for that. Beyond that, this is the internet, and even better communities attract some people who exist to be nasty, roll it off man, they are not worth the time it takes to consider.
