While I have no problem with what the packs have (aside from the more minor comments), the naming issue still remains. I mean, think about it - if they released a Ninja Pack or an Android pack, would anyone actually complain they didn't get what was advertised?
no, you get a few things wrong here. the natural pack is called the martial arts pack in the store. now, calling it "ninja" is kind of silly since the swords are Chinese, the hairstyle for male is Chinese. the robes are stylized but not specifically related to any conception of ninjas outside of mortal kombat. so how ninja it is is arguable, even the ninja run was originally called the wuxia run, which refers to the Chinese action films like hero or house of flying daggers.

Similarly the "prototype" suggestion only covers one of the two costumes, refers to a copyrighted video game character, and ignores the similarities to a far more established comic character who looked far more similar, witchblade.

As for the tech, terms like robot, android and cyborg are largely used interchangeably. android in fact would be a gender specific designation, with the female being gynoid, and would really have given no more real description of the appearance than any of the other terms.
so honestly, the whole concept of the specific names really would have been no less misleading than the ones that were used.

becausereally mutants arent much of a concept, it is a slight variation in genetic makeup, generally mundane and usually only being even visable after hundreds of thousands of generations and aggregating with other mutations. magic benefits from cultural cues attached to magical beings, science and tech benefit from existing technology and science informing the looks, natural is pretty much just natural, but the word mutant means nothing froma comic standpoint. most of the x-men mutants look like normal humans, hell, most of them look like really attractive normal humans. morlocks generally look like lumpy humans, the concept is kind of dull when taken within any degree of what the word actually means, so people tend to go for the radical interpretations of it, which in turn can tread on the toes of "science"origin characters. it really is mostly an origin cluster-duck. and the origin system has pretty much vestigial since they introduced the archetype system back in beta.

They would've been happy I didn't get something I wanted, because they would've gotten something they wanted instead.

Personally, the last thing I wanted to be in the mutant pack are various animal parts, they don't appeal to me at all. I'm a lot happier with this.
your logic is a little strange there. you have not specified what you wanted at all, they did, you expressed your happiness at their disappointment, that is the part people are objecting to.

by definition everything added is done so at the exclusion of everything else, my happiness at the martial arts themed parts in the natural pack was not the same as me saying i was happy that people didnt get military or police themed parts. I would have come across as a complete unremitting bell-end to have done so. Had street simply said that he was happy that the pack included more subdued mutations, then nobody would be saying anything, but his joy at the pack NOT being something else is where he(and those supporting his post) comes across as being hostile, particularly tokyo who has a long history of trolling these threads.

yeah, but he also made other things, particularly the well done fish girl. lets be frank, the outfit is strongly resembling witchblade's japanese costume. the whole symbiote thing is kind of swishy with the mutant origin in this game, but mutant is such a degraded term in comics that at this point i am willing to let it pass(bunch of broccoli tasting freaks). people have made good costumes with it (billz seemed happy) so i will give it the standard pass as a interesting idea as david explained it with the whole "change from within, change from without deal", i could finagle a few costumes out of it, my mermaid, who is natural, is going to get mileage out of it so I am mollified.

yes, you will notice that most of the furor was from before the david post explaining this, after that i think a lot of us calmed down. however as far as booster packs go, this was the first time in the testings that we had a less than complete view given at first(the science pack having one piece color-able doesn't count since that was added after the teston public request and jay's innate coolness), so you can see why using precedent, it was assumed that no new tails were present, and given that the text mentioned tails, there was concern that the marketing had not coordinated with the developers and had made an unfortunate mismatch. once that was resolved, you can see that people calmed down to their standard rabble rabble.

I am afraid i have to tamp that comment down a bit. both posi and david had made comments in regards to the dev pack as something that would remedy the drought of beast themed costume pieces, so the expectation were not entirely misplaced, though it was likely amplified well beyond reasonable expectation relative to the other boosters.. we were told to expect something, and to be fair, what was given was not a new beast head, no new beast legs, and initially no new tail even. so while there were no promises, there was perhaps an expectation for a fairly specific type of costume piece that simply did not materialize. this was worse because the text said there would be new heads and tails, we got new faces and head details, and the tails were , until david commented, in limbo. i can sympathize with those who are disappointed, i currently am not, but given the statements leading up to the booster, i do not see their disappointment as being entirely groundless.

That said, david gets big points for getting his boots on the ground today and being straight with us about the tails, and the possibility of future thematic elements, that part was handled well and i think satisfied some of the initially upset. and for some, you just aint going to please them.
  8. lets clarify one thing, because this was specifically asked at the beginning of dave's art thread, we were not promised, nor given a timeframe for anything. making it sound like dev communication can later turn on the devs is a good way to limit dev communication. i want fish heads, and tails, and fins, but after communicating my ideas to david and even getting a response, about the fins, i realized that my suggestion was part of a large number of suggestion that they deal with with limited resources, so nobody promised me anything, and i daresay this is a healthier attitude to have for the long haul.

there is a second thread for that, it is called secondary mutation, its a random self buff, some beneficial, some less.

  11. ok david, thats the stuff, the armor tail will be appreciated by my dragon.

well, his quote about canine tails helped too. if they arent in this booster, but are coming, then that is more news than we have had, and emans that we will see them.

  15. well, i will test tommorow, but subjective. no new tails, seriously? you guys wound me. otherwise, i am happy this has fish themed applications, so yeah, i willg rudgingly probably still buy this, but this booster was biilt up pretty heavily as finally answering the concerns of characters who are specifically non-human, and this seems like a half-step in that regard. serously, no new tail tail? i am disappointed. similarly disappointed with the lack of a new beast head. does jay really object to beast pieces THAT much?
  16. didnt come at first, becasue i had a very bad experience with ffXI, decided to give it a shot because a guy on a forum i used to go to was raving about the customization, tried it, got hooked, got real life friends in it, and now have been here over 69 months, some times i go into lulls for a bit, but over all, still enjoy it a lot and am looking forward to what the new stuff brings. I figure at a certain point i am "invested" in the game and am very unlikely to leave, particularly with ww at the reigns, i respect and am grateful to posi for some very strong tech and qol improvements that augmented the game, i even respect and like jack, but i get a feeling that im really going to enjoy her run.

i play co, and im going to try dcou, but they aint getting rid of me easily here.
  17. hey, i play mostly scrapper and brutes, im with you in spirit, just saying that guns do make sense for shooting. as i said, rian in co feels a heck of a lot weaker than rian in coh.despite having a fairly similar power structure, and part of it is that the enemies tend to scatter on me and i cant throw my good cone abilities and just bowl them over, whereas here people love to mob rian and get that nice little flapjack effect when i leg-sweep everyone.

  18. well...not to bring reality into a superhero game, but if you have a gun, ya may want to shoot someone with it, rather than whomp them in the head with it. it still is better than in champs, those guys run to different zip codes, my ma framework guy weeps openly fighting a lot of their groups.

yeah, i can agree with the op, the community is a part of the game, so it stands tor eason that the community help maintain thsi game. this does not remove the responsibility of official marketing, naturally, but if you can help, help.

this viewpoint is the ideal one. you got to 50 because you enjoyed playing the character, not to get a carrot.

Frankly, there's not much differance between it and a trenchcoat, other than the trenchcoat flaring out more vs. hanging straight.

So is there a reason other than they just haven't done it?
back in the day ti was just jay's post that females were getting them, and something silly and tangential. My guess is they just didnt have the time, resources and demand to throw together at once to fix it. Lets be honest, of the nw's you see how many are male. I would be fully for adding BUTTCAPES to males(and huge models) as well as females, just as i'd like to see colorable holiday halos, but my guess is that they have their place on the priority ladder, particularly with gr looming, and we will see them when all the stuff with higher priority for a larger number of players gets addressed.

  23. when it didnt get me my money.

ok better. you know, i consider individual stages of victory as part of the game, but the game itsself is kind of a transitional state for more stuff to be thrown at me. for each character, i prefer to beat the leader characters like countess crey, nemesis?, the rikti leader who im not even going to try to spell, romulous, even doc.v and various other leaders of major threats, but much like comic heroes, there is always someone badder coming up, so right now rian, seraph, dire worg, and violet are biding their time for the next big bad to show up, and my b-team is slowly knocking down the enemies one by one.maybe the shard will get revamped and i can finally get to fight rularuu, but even if that gets finished in my character's individual stories, there will always be something coming.

this is a constructive, rational and inviting way of handling issues. i can only expect that the developers are made as welcome and feel inclined to your viewpoint. you should definitely treat everyone with that level of respect, its a very adult way of acting.

Note, i actually have sympathy for the european community, so no snark there, just it always baffles me that people feel that the most constructive way to invite the developers into a friendly, constructive dialogue is to be as insulting and rude as this. does that work anywhere in the world? It's a bit like the paying customer nonsense, they know you are paying, just admit you are trying bald faced extortion and lets all be honest about things.
