leally, there are things he cant say, legally there are things the company cant say, i was laid off a bit ago and went through some irritation with this as well, my company COULD give me a really top recommendation, but legally the new companies hr had to go through hoops to do so, it stinks but it does keep a vindictive ex employer from torching your career, just stinks when they would have had lots of good things to say...grumble grumble.
i can fully understand why some things could not be said, rationally this mostly adds up, i hope its lemur's guess that is right, that would be a good way to go, protecting junior workers, but there is some stuff that if released could get a company sued, so we probably know what we will know.
as i said, just celebrate the man, he did good work and was skilled in customer interaction, that's his takeaway from this job, the customers appreciated him, i'd like to think that that is something important, i suspect to him it was. -
was still going even now, saw a few familiar faces.

on qr, because i just got home from work. still taking it in, will post more later, not happy, really unhappy, i can see laying off a newer hire, or someone who is an unknown quantity, but babs was a major part of the game and the community. I'm holding myself back from some very unpleasant conjunctures, i just need to calm down.
but you know what, celebrate the man, not the passing. Babs is why i'm still here, power customization and alternate animations were a big differentiator between this game and just about any other game. also, on a personal note, he had a strong way with the community, he often gave us the straight dirt without prspeak, and had a biting sense of humor. that upset babies, but it made his posts both informative and funny, like george carlin reading "a brief history of time" and in several unpleasant times (like the infamous rockjaw incident) he and castle probably overstepped their bounds professionally, but they made a big difference in reaction and (unlike the community relations guys) calmed down a incendiary forum. he and castle probably got in trouble for that because too many executives have no clue about how humans think anymore. be was a great dev, a fun person and did top notch work, the game will be poorer in his absence. it stinks for nelson and the new guy, because they didn't do this, but now they have to follow babs, and this is not a happy welcome. -
really as i see it, there are a number of directions that they can go each issue, new tips, new weapons, new animations, new costumes(not going to be snarky, not going to be snarky), base stuff, more oroboros, more papers, redoing old content, ae stuff, even pvp stuff, though thats probably a second snark landmine. point is that proliferation has had a fairly recent addition, im sure they will get around to it, but as balancing goes, i think you are understating the amount of work they put into sets to try to keep them from being too out of whack when added to different at's. It is no secret that pa is already a outlier as damage goes, you have suggested as much yourself, most like it, like psi blast, may have some adjustment in porting, so its not just something that can be casually tossed off for an off issue. much like ss for scrappers, i would not eb surprised if it was ported in some form for dominators, but i just not seeing where the pressing need for another run of proliferation is a make or break this to this issue. If anything, since we can assume that they are already doing some work that will go into subsequent issues, i'd imagine that castle is probably working on incarnate powers.Quote:now you know enough to know this is a biased comment. the players have complained about just about every change made to the game, in some cases their commentary has helped the game, in some cases it has been unreliable, statistically invalid, biased to specific play styles or would make the game worse. just because a few decisions were overturned for the argueably better does not mean that player feedback is in any way superior to internal metrics, it simply is another metirc to watch. We can just selectively point to the times that it has and forget that long time posters here have repeatedly made suggestions that would so permanently throw balance out of whack in this game(particularly for specific kinds of tanks) that their feedback would have done irrevocable harm. we can also point to suggestions that have been made that simply are infeaseable for this or any video game, or would be huge time/resource sinks for limited payoff. we get it right some times, but there are a lot of us and we throw a lot of suggestions, and a lot of them are "horribly wrong".Actually, there are several things where they're judgment has been horribly wrong, we complained until they changed their minds, and the game was better for it. For example, at one point, the devs were adamant that we shouldn't have a market merge because it would "hurt" villains. Two months in and the market is healthier than I've ever seen it.
The game as it stands now is a testament to the devs ability to listen to complaints from their loyal, but crabby, playerbase.
Furthermore, it assumes that here ever is clear concensus in the first place, have you noticed how free stamina has even generated some vocal discontent, remember the dom buff? Even on ostensibly popular ideas, there will be some who will object because it upsets some aspect of their game, that's just the nature of change. feedback is important, and it has, at times, lead to improvements in the product but lets not oversell ourselves, we are as fallible as they, and most of us, realistically, dont know as much about the reality of programming and financially maintaining a video game. -
interesting, they spilled the beans on i19 yesterday, spilled some beans on Halloween today, this weekend they have the big meet and greet, dont they usually throw us a surprise during them? wonder what other info could be coming up.

on the plus side, since its an 11 year old girl, she could probably handle geddy's singing pitch too.

Quote:i'm always fuzzy about what can be said from beta pre nda drop. figured that was the most "to the point" answer.Going Rogue beta testers had the opportunity to try out the alpha slot of the Incarnate system, but it was pulled from Going Rogue to be reworked. There are a few bits in the game that offer glimpses of what will probably be in the system, but the current design will have ten Incarnate levels that add various abilities and bonuses to characters as well as content designed to challenge characters with Incarnate abilities.

i'd like to know as well. since we are having the double secret probation beta going on for i20 and it was implied that there would be a beta for i19, i dunno, might be some time. some degree of the pressure on coh and co was alleviated today(nudge nudge) but yeah, i'm kind of holding of doing some repecs myself till i19 hits, and am chomping at the proverbial bit.
im also going to pretend i remembered the weekend thing as well, you all buy that, right? -
out of curiosity, as i only recently started playing weapon based chars, do we only get the old rikti "car door" sword, or do we get the new big glow stick from the current rikti?

Quote:1. maleSo I'm writing a research paper for my English class on the differences between male and female gamers, and since CoX has such a high percentage of female players (myself included) I figured this would be a good place to gather some information. So, if you all could answer a few questions for me, that'd be great:
1. Are you male or female?
2. What ATs do you mostly play, and for what reason(s)?
3. Redside, blueside, purpleside, or any combination of the above?
4. What are your favorite story arcs?
5. What makes you like this game?
6. What other games do you play?
7. How long have you been playing?
8. How many alts do you have, what is the average level range, and how many are level 50?
9. Do you bother with softcaps, set bonuses, and all that numerical stuff? What difficulty settings to you normally use?
I'm not asking for your opinions on the differences, if you believe they exist, just your own personal preferences. Once you tell me about you, I'll do all the data analysis... I'm not asking you guys to do my homework for me, I'm only looking for data to write about. Thanks!
2.scrappers/brutes and nightwidows. ease of play lack of concern about mezzes, melee focus. also, i do like me some doms, they just feel like they have in-at variety, i play a plant totally different from a ice, for the others i mentioned, i just run in and throw down, regardless of power type.
3.mostly blueside but about a 65-35 split.
4.honestly im really loving the tips more than the arcs. they are right now my favorite writing. the emerging stories of flambeaux, doc quantum and polar shift are pretty intriguing for me.
5.customization, alternate animations, thematic breadth(superheros can be fantasy, sci-fi, ultratech.)
6.lots,generally rpgs and action rpgs, fighting games and action platformers, also some retro arcade stuff. at the moment just finished DQ IX, and metroid: other m. am working on fallout 3, final fantasy tactics ds, blade kitten, dig dug arranged. and tekken 6. arc rise fantasia is queued up next.
7.75 months
8.60'ish, they tend to group around level 14, level 26, and late 30's.
9.well, i try to pull my weight, but i dont go crazy with mids and min/maxing. i do use ios and pay attention to bonuses, but given the general difficulty i dont feel a need to go into the heavy number crunching mode. that approches the feel of working, rather than playing. its cool for those who do, though. i tend to compare it to office workers who do heavy weight lifting, its not really needed for their life, but its cool when you can pull it off.
as for diff, i tend to keep level the same, and raise numbers, and always with bosses, they just are fun. rian runs on x3+1 w bosses, but for non-favorites, i tend to keep the level flat. -

welcome all, i lurked a bit before posting myself, the community isnt too bad..at least till i started posting :P
oh and woo, post 7777, i'm verbose and apparently won on nickle slots. -
i tend to get a lot from the band "superchick" usually songs are about coping with hardships, but the message about not beaking down, instead getting up and fighting, it tends to fit the genre.
still here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kymUXI0BnCs
stand in the rain- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKlRP3BuTK4
hero- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeLxp...eature=related (original version, the remix is nice too though the rapping is..unfortunate)
a more goofy song by the aquabats, works for female scrappers especially http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeLxp...eature=related
finally from the dropkick murphys- its thematically about boxing, but i think it fits a superhero well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CZyLiBxaQE
one for the police themed hero- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj42W4wNnBQ
some resistance members may like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GfllMPjyTE
two more for the more populist hero-again from the murphys- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYMMu...eature=related , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4KMrc3eNdo&feature=related

well, i wouldnt really have a huge issue with something generally like this. xena did have some wonder-womanish elements anyhow. obviously i want more than a xerox plus of xena, but it would fit how i conceptualize that character.

basically, a other forum i used to post on mentioned how good the customization was. i read the prima guide book at eb and saw that it had a martial arts powerset, so i figure i'd give it a go.
Funny part is, the manager of said eb had discussed with me about it earlier, but after having some irritation with other mmo's (eq's obtuse interaction with npc's, ffXI's deleveling, daoc having boring character art, swg going insane and istaria running like treacle on my system) i was actually waiting for guild wars. i used to love the old dreamcast(and later gamecube/xbox) game phantasy star online, which was more diablo'ish than mmo'ish, so when i played the old mmo's the slow pace and lack of easy teaming kept me at a distance, but with coh, teaming was fast, forgiving of composition, and basically was 8 people hopping together and having fun. plus the sidekicking system, even pre exemplaring and ssk, was a wonderful feature, i could alt and still play with friends who were significantly higher level. then i got my friends into it and then i basically was cemented.
funny part is, while i did like the thematic freedom of superheroes, since they could be tech, sci-fi, eastern martial arts based or mystical, i really wasnt the biggest fan of the genre, too much spandex, and i didnt care for the stories(largely due to not fully understanding them in context) I was and am still more of a manga guy than a comic-book guy, but coh did a lot to make me reevaluate and start to appreciate comics a lot more. -

I suspect that by the i19 release, females will be added, i would really be surprised if they werent. but since this is a accident(like the insect 2 cape, remember that?) i dont think any expectations can really be attached to it.

Quote:a few things there that are wrong. the resounding meh was at first because the parts they put on test were incomplete, myself and several others were upset that a specific costume part, tails of any kind, were missing, there were no tails. after david posted in that thread people calmed down significantly. Then, when the bushy tail was added, some were thrilled, some fell into full on conspiracy mode, and a good deal more, the people who still cannot tell the difference between anthropomorphic costume parts and furries(strong venn diagram overlap with 4channers) and people who just like more classic human-looking characters were still unimpressed, and would never have been pleased because they had a different definition of the nebulous definition of "mutant". But say the facts straight, the initial meh was because the mutant pack was incomplete on test and a FEW posters were converted by the wolf tail, but to pretend that it was a significant number is to purposely distort available information. So placating buyer's remorse for crybabies over their impulse purchase outweighs those of us who asked for literal YEARS for just such a costume piece and decided NOT to buy the Mutant Pack because we didn't care for how it looked? Got it: acting like a petulant child *after* spending money trumps being annoyed over watching an obvious grab for a few more bucks.
Look, I'm sorry if it seems like I'm acting overly sensitive on this issue, but the facts of the tail debacle are these:
1) Mutant Pack revealed, to resounding cries of "Meh."
2) Noble Savage (David Nakayama) starts Art threads
3) I post photo after photo of bushy tails that I'd like to see added
4) Noble Savage posts that Jay made the bushy tail in a "few days"
5) They add the tail to the Mutant Pack where even a guy with a white cane and service dog can see it clearly doesn't match the other pieces
6) Resulting in numerous posts of, "I wasn't going to buy the Mutant pack, but now that you added the tail..."
Paragon Studios is run by very smart people, and they just had two badly-received Booster Pack releases in a row. They saved one by jamming a much-sought-after costume piece in it, effectively enticing people to pay $10 for a single costume item. So if auras are the next Booster Pack, why *wouldn't* they randomly stick in a Quiver or Scabbard in there to entice people to pay $10?
EDIT: Trumped by ensuing events. General point still stands.
It probably looks better animated. Even Willpower, my favorite secondary and the one that looks the best out of the box, looks better in motion than in stills.
one more point, matching other pieces is not the prerequisite of costume pieces, in fact the fact that many new sets work poorly with anything other than the rest of the set has been a point of significant contention around here, because the launch creator was a great deal more mix-and-match friendly. so whether it matched or not is largely irrelevant, a portion of the players would prefer more pieces that are multi purpose rather than being locked into a set.
