  1. sorry, didn't see it was over, move along, nothing to see here...
  2. Well, the dino pack is something I have been looking forward to for quite some time, admittedly to repurpose to a dragon, but my hope is that we get the base scaly heads and then, similarly to how the feline heads in the beast pack had different options for manes, sideburns and fangs, get the option of frills, feathers and the like, as well as perhaps bone ridges lieka triceretops and different horn structures. for player characters, mix and match should be key. If they later introduce a new dino zone, either by oroboros or by some deeper part of the hamidon territory of praetoria, then it would be cool to see feathered raptors and the like. basically, dinos have been a part of the comic community for a long time, and a good "lost world" would be soemthing id love to see coh go with. heck, redo "monster island" into that sort of area, maybe make it bigger and more detailed for different dev earth monsters.

Oh and one more thing, since a lot of discussion has been on hints. the producers letter from when the beast pack launched seemed to be the biggest tip off. I had not seen it before it was edited, but it seemed based on responses to have suggested a crocodile head being initially planned, but later held back for another set.

Another hint that i find interesting was that at a recent con, either a pax or the pummit, i forget exactly, posi was asked about dinosaurs and he said that that would need a 4 legged rig. Given lead-in times for art assets, he would have already known that a 4 legged rig was being worked on, so this may or may not have been a clue. Either he knew and was leading us on with an answer that we would only understand with knowledge that would come in Halloween with the dog, or he just forgot and its a red herring.

There are things with real world analogs and things without them. I cant talk about darth maul's using the force in episode 1, because its not something that has a real world analog, i can talk about his staff style and unarmed strikes(which are awesome) because he drew them form existing martial arts styles(yes its a lightsaber, but he used it like a staff). thats the difference.

the hulk is just straight up fantasy, ironman's armor is fantasy, but archery exists. one could likely say the same with black widow because she uses guns and martial arts, which we can compare with real styles. Heck, to be technical, i liked how in thor he didnt use a particularly disciplined fighting style, but used something closer to professional wrestling, and it made sense for his personality and build.

You manage to fend both off enough to push Hamidon back and Cole finally confronts you, trying to take on too much power from the Well and goes all One-Winged Angel on us.

Beat Well Avatar Cole half to death, when a weakened Hamidon then infects Cole, making him even more monstrous than before with tentacles and stuff, and now we face down a Super Well Empowered HamidonCole.

No Adds for this one, no other objectives, only FINAL DESTINATION! I mean beating Cole and Hamidon.
Also, the trial map should use rain. And have lightning in the background.

Also, if we get giant mecha, I will be playing This non-stop for a week.
I'm rian frostdrake, and this is my favorite suggestion on the citadel.

also, confirmation about new story in the shard makes me happy. It was heavily hinted at, but to see it outright stated is always nice

Its not actualy irony. He said they added some sense of different mythology in the game to show new threats, he never said they were exclusive elements, he also said they are continuously telling the story of praetoria till cole is defeated. cole is not yet defeated as of the events of issue 22, and as such it has a praetorian element, but one that is not the primary mover of the action, . which part is irony exactly?

  7. well, hes not there yet, but for rian

issue 4 added martial arts robes, sadly exclusive to non tail using characters, but a start

cov added digitigrade legs and reptilian skin and a more textured martial arts robe

issue 8 added the beast head 6 and allowed heroes to use the cov costume pieces, it also, (i think) was when we got vet rewards, so rian's dragon form got demon wings and samurai armor

issue 16 gave us animation customization, the current stuff for martial arts is a bit brawler'ish for me, but it gives hope that the animations for MA can be made more authentic one day

issue 17 separated tails from the belt section allowing me to use robes with a dragon tail (also an animated tail, woo) for rian's base form, and samurai hip guards with a tail for his full dragon form.

issue 20 added judgements including cryonic, which, while i still cant breath ice, fit rian's theme as an ice dragon, though just my luck, issue 21.5 brought out vorpal judgement..a martial arts themed judgement. I guess having difficulty choosing between 2 good options is a good problem to have, all things considered

also, a shout out to issues 8 and 18 for tips and safeguards. It helped me play rian as more of a general heroic do gooder, sticking his nose in a lot of one-off problems, rather than always running long arcs of big evil plans.

as for what i still want, well, i like the cot/rularuu shin spikes on the back for rian's dragon form, still want to be able to fire powers from my mouth, like a dragon, and id love for martial arts to get some animations that look better, rather than thunder kick's abysmal roundhouse kick and crane kick's slightly off-balance side kick. but overall, the game has done a lot for me. I still remember mentioning wanting specific swords for broadsword, and when the natural pack came out, it had every single one that i wanted, booya.

    The One?

I'm not a huge fan of being a "the one" because I try (succeed or not is up for debate) to make my characters defined by emotional relate-ability, they are like you and I they just hit harder, a "one" is a different class of character, its a title that defines and seperates a character from everyone else. Rian may be the only dragon left from his particular group, but thats immaterial outside of proofing him against lore clashing if coh decides to add dragons later, he is defined by his human feelings of isolation and frailty and his resolve to overcome those weaknesses and pursue evil, even when the odds are impossible, not his power.

Its a different valuation really, I just fine "the ones" to be a storytelling style im not fond of, it strikes me as brute force characterization. Its not making the character something people can relate to, its just a title.
  9. and my question still is, why are his legs so skinny. he is supposed to have a muscular physique, but his legs , either due to the pose or angle, seem skinny.

One guess would be that coh-verse is like "american Gods" where followers of specific divines carry versions of them with them where they settle and they become independent entities. Its unlikely there are too many worshipers of mot still around, but descendants of cannanites who still arent big on dying could still have brought him.

All I'm asking that is instead of the content being focused on how things are going yet further to hell in a handbasket, a little bit of it be focused on how things aren't. Some things are even getting a little better.

There is precedent for this. Really, the first five issues didn't have any "The World Is Getting Destroyed!™" tone to it. For example, in Issue 3, sure, we had some giant monsters show up in some zones, but hey, we also had helpful aliens (Kheldians) show up, woot! And heroes got some cool new epic power pools, woot! The arrival of the Council was mitigated a bit by the Fifth Column getting their a**es kicked. Even issue 6--the launch of City of Villains--was based on the premise that the Rogue Isles have actually been there all along, presumably always the nuisance that it is today, but we're just now getting to explore it. Ever since, I don't know, Issue 10 ("Invasion!") or so, though, it just seems that Paragon City has taken beating after beating without anything significant to prove that the heroes can actually make a positive difference in the city.

That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Some good mixed in with the bad. And when I say "good," I'm not talking about the mechanics or gameplay. I don't dispute that I'm looking forward to all of this fun world-ending stuff in the pipeline. I'm talking about "good" in the sense that Maggie Greene has something to report on besides, "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES BECAUSE YET MORE S*** IS HITTING THE FAN!"

It just boggles my mind why anyone would willingly actually live in Paragon City these days. I've always implicitly believed it was because the citizens believed in the heroes' ability to win against the forces of evil in the end. But the way things have been going lately with heroes winning little skirmishes but ultimately sucking at the war, how long will it inevitably be before the whole damn city is wiped off the face of the planet?

I'm just saying, writers, give the people some hope, some reason to believe in the heroes!
Well, part of the answer is simply that this is an mmo, and an older style one too, in everquest the giant rats coudl keep popping up long after the players should have eradicated any sustainable breeding population of them, but it worked because it was a video game, in coh lore apparently a significant portion of disaffected young people are either members of a street gang, drug addicts that turned into monsters, posessed or part of a hostile group of elemental mutants, Its a mmo standard but it gets silly once you have cleared out hellions for a few hours street sweeping...even if we accept a porous legal system, how the heck are there so many? the answer is, its a video game, and limits exist in presentation, maybe phasing will help later on, it did make atlas a bit more sane (you can actually clean areas up now) but overall, part of the fault is the medium, an mmo has to keep enemies spawning for other players so you fight an unending battle against inexhaustable numbers.

There is a second problem though, and that is how stories tend to flow here, there is a large conflict that affects out heroes, we fight through it and eventually overcome it. that works from an individual narriative point of view, if you stick with that you beat(likely solo if you chose) SPOILERS..

the leader of the rikti, countess crew, vanessa devore, the envoy of shadows, lots of plauseable copies of nemesis, some of malta's leaders, the rogues gallery of possible supers from mayhems/tips, if you get lucky in a safeguard, one of recluse's big four or even himself, in ssa4 all of recluse's b team and one of his lieutenants, just about everyone in the beginning of mender remiels arc, and sorta-incarnate, a slightly sedated hero 1, and coming tomorrow, a major divine of death. we win..a lot, and if i had added tf, raid or large group content, it gets nuttier, but from a story perspective, mmos stink at reflecting victories, they only can reflect the conflict, even after befriending the cabal, they still take pot-shots at me, the supposedly crippled legacy of war (after the rwz story) still can field a force to meet liberty server's mothership raids every few days, despite insane casualties that would clear out entire country's militaries.

we dont see the bright new day, we just have to take the mission text saying how great we did. Again, i blame mmos for being a horrible game type more than i blame coh's narrative, it simply strains against the constraints of the medium.
  12. 360 here too, id go pc, but the first 2 were from a time when my comp was less capable, so it was 360 or 5 frames per second. Might give multiplayer a try, but undecided.

Ya know what? Heres a realsitic rundown of what they have. an 8 year old game in a genre where it has achieved a middling sized population relative to the one game nobody shuts up about and in a sub-genre that has had the other 2 games fail hard. its graphically dated and the positives, customization, community, accessability to people who dont like the usual mmo tropes are all niche positives, it also has a necrotic pvp system, no "hardcore" raiding and a more relaxed crafting system, all negatives to the standard mmo player.

I love coh, been here continuously since june 04 and subbed at least 2 years from now. but i understand the lay of the land, and i understand that marketing has to have a projected return for significant financial investments. so yeah, maybe there are a few things that the peanut gallery can say could have been done better, but a realistic look at the lay of the land shows that there are fewer realistic options to market. I try to do the word of mouth thing a much as i can, because i can tailor what i say to the person im talking to, but a broad based marketing push to a public that wants cartoonish elves and space samurai, I can appreciate the difficulty.

I have seen a lot of GREAT games get overlooked, okami, beyond good and evil, psychonauts, ico all amazing, all had middling sales, and people blame marketing, but you know what, sometimes, its just gamers(and people in general), large populations tastes regress to the lowest common denominator, and marketing cant fix that.
  14. congrats ww, couldn't be a nicer person in the position, really glad to see this.
  15. Not a big fan of killing anyone, but weston phipps would certainly be on my "beat the snot out of" list.
wade is currently a bit obvious, letting that one play out.
maelstrom is also assuredly on the"btsoo" list, not only for his treason and him coldly killing his close friend, but for insta-killing me with that teleport kick while i was changing buildings in the tpn, the twerp :P
  16. the better part of it was how aggressive he got, and he even mentioned how, if he was right, he'd rub it in her face...well guess who was wrong, the guy who cant find his y or o keys.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Wii... but I haven't even turned it on since beating Skyward Sword, and prior to that, New Super Mario Bros (when it first launched in 2009).

As for not liking "multiplayer," I generally don't like competitive multiplayer games either, but I have a great time playing co-op games on Xbox Live with my friends. I certainly don't want to jump on a Halo deathmatch with a bunch of trash-talking preteens, either.
not to go off topic, but have you tried rayman origins? its multiplat, but i have it for the wii and am enjoying it, and it is deliciously co-op multiplayer. also am really looking forward to last story as well, now all we need is pandora's tower.

honestly, i think trying to dodge a big release is a pointless game. like i said, since august with deus ex h.r., there has been some major console rpg or action rpg release every single month, outside of january, and im probably forgetting something there. and after this month there is xenoblade next month and dragon dogma. im still chugging on dark souls(ceaseless discharge is a jerk), still chugging on amalur, heck, looking forward to playing the sky pirates expansion for two worlds, but havent even gotten to dl that, and still not through the dlc for me2, so i dont see myself diving right into me3 just out of sheer reality. and bethesda released the creation kit for skyrim and i already saw 5 mods i gotta have...

there is no neutral release time for coh, but i have been playing coh for nearly 8 years now and am subscribed till war witch gets a restraining order on me, so its not a big deal.

chase brings up a point. rather than just asking for a copy of the carnie sash, perhaps a really nice addition would be for them to make a general sash with various patterns(and blank, of course) perhaps a dragon or kanji pattern, a generic magic rune one, and, if the devs are feeling crazy, one with a series of symbols printed going down the hangy thing that is supposed to be kheldian writing. that way we cover kung fu, magic and kheld and still have the blank of generic patterned one for other concepts. also, heres a thought, can we get a sash that works with robes too? since ten brought up the martial arts element, and i would eventually want it too, robes right now are a big part of the martial arts look, so it would kind of have to work with them too.
