Flamebait ? Mentioning that I want a lifetime subscription is flame worthy ? Well, hand me the BBQ sauce then, lol. Wow, you guys really are special, aren't you ?

Exactly where did the OP go so wrong as to be pounced on?
There is nothing wrong with the suggestion.
The search feature is so complicated and clunky someone actually had to write a "guide" to using it.
So, beans on the old "use teh search feature" "1000 threads on this already" replies.
Even in defending him/herself the OP is still showing a modicum of respect.
I suggest just sticking to the topic of discussion and let the real moderators decide if this is a flame bait thread.
And as such I will take my own advice and leave.
OP, I think its an idea with merit that would be considered if they ever need a quick influx of money/funds.
It would likely be a limited time thing.
Valid question IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]one strange thing thus far is that he has only responded to the hostile posters, myself and a few others made rational responses to his question and he has ignored those, so one does start to worry about intent. You start a discussion and then ignore the people discussing?[ QUOTE ]
#2, since when has anyone ever cared about a few malcontents complaining?

you put that in just for me, right. -

As some of you know, Lord of the Rings Online has a "lifetime subscription" option that can be gotten as an invitation from a Founding Playing. This gives you the ability to pay $200 for membership and then never pay another monthly subscription.
Why oh why can't COH offer this ? I would gladly pay $200, or more, to get a lifetime subscription for COH.
[/ QUOTE ]I wouldnt say no to it, heck, id get it the second offered, but one does worry about the long term effects of it. In an interview a while ago, the former lead developer, jack emmett mentioned that this game has anomalous retention rates, apparently we churn less, and have a lot of longtimers. I myself am getting my 60 month badge in 10 days, they would have been losing money on me for 4 years now at a 200 dollar lifetime rate. the game would cease getting revenue from an apparently not insignificant portion of the subscribers that might eventually constrict available funds for continuing development costs. Not a business fellow myself, but i can see why it may have financial problems. but as said, if they floated it, id be there. -

Mod power abuse is awesome

Silver, you didn't get the memo, this is the Mod LOVE thread.
[/ QUOTE ]Mod8 certainly must love you, otherwise this thread would have been locked before getting to the second page.
[/ QUOTE ]maybe, but hey. its good for a chuckle. -

Wait, wait, does that mean you're farming LOTHIC?

Plus, to me, just changing colors is kind of meh... I want to change animations too.
[/ QUOTE ]that is kind of the holy grail, I wouldnt get my hopes up for that, but if it hit i would be ecstatic, finally giving rian martial arts animations that look good would be a lifetime subscription level event. colors will do though for now, customizing projectiles would be even nicer, and as i said, full melee animations would be the winner. -

Booooooooooooo!
[/ QUOTE ]I dunno, i15 isnt even live, and we know gr is going to have a beta testing period, so really did anyone really expect it to hit very soon? Reasonably, i would be amazed if we saw gr before november. not disappointed, mind you, but surprised. -

I can think of only one type of customization that would truly require an entire expansion and gobs of developer man hours to produce... especially if conversations at Comic Con last year still hold any water...
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep.
Given the weight of circumstantial evidence we have this far out I'll be shocked if power customization isn't a feature of GR.
[/ QUOTE ]really, yeah, the q&a answer as well, lets say i would be highly surprised if some form of customization wasnt there when gr hits. hopefully we can finally customize elemental weapons, i really want an ice katana, rather than the hooked straight sword ice melee has now. plus the occasional unlockable weapon adds another carrot to the stick for me. -

Red-side, I haven't done them at all. Don't have the need there either, but I rarely see any teams forming up for one. The one red-side has a bad rep, so I hear, something about a psychic tree that can one-shot you for miles, and a race to kill off a bunch of thorns? I know CoT are involved. It sounds obnoxious to tell the truth, but like I said I've rarely seen announcements about one starting up, certainly never been asked (unlike blue-side, where I get asked once a week or so.)
[/ QUOTE ]not nearly as bad as it sounds, ran it with a small pug team of lbxers a few months ago and it was quite fun. if your team has no cohesion then its going to be a long, painful process, but i have had itf's die from that, if you can work together and apply a basic strategy, the tree is easily manageable. -
you know, from babs sig, 29.95 one looks like it was choreographed by the guy who did our MA animations.

dang, it is an alternate universe, well put johnny.

The problem is we don't have enough of a good faith in the writing team to believe they have the ability to conclude a plot at all, let alone conclude one well. It's especially frustrating since they have an amazing tool to do something relatively unprecedented in story-driven MMOs.
[/ QUOTE ]With the recent unclosed story arcs and the new tf/sf in i15, I don't have any faith in any of the writers to even pump out a half-good and finished storyline. I also think the new direction for storyline-driven content is absurd. It's just wall of texts to distract you from the next mission. All the story info I get is from the sight. If they want this to be a story driven game, they need to find a better way to deliver it.
[/ QUOTE ]Well, it's okay to use slabs of text - I'm fine with that, because it means the story is unobtrusive to those people who don't really care. I've seen a lot of people frustrated by cut scenes because they interrupt combat flow. On the other hand, for those of us who do read the text there's this feeling of Why Bother.
[/ QUOTE ]And I agree with you, but there mindset is to deliver story arcs, then us people who just want to play and have fun are being left out a bit. I'll take new zones, powers, costumes, and gameplay mechanics over stories in this game any day.
[/ QUOTE ]That kind of presumes that people who want story progressing dont want to have fun. It is all a balance, and i dont think things have been too bad for the people you have mentioned. yeah zones have been lacking lately, but it appears that going rogue is where that work went(not to mention that we dont exactly have the population for having a huge number of zones and maintaining any real density) . meanwhile the story has pretty much floundered since issue 12, so balance, you got new things to play with, ma day job powers and accolades, the patrol exp, making alting even easier than ever, lets see some story stuff going on. -

Ever notice how all the alternate-universe versions of Statesman are evil?
I kinda wonder if Paragon Earth might be an aberration. After all--if the criminal Marcus Cole is supposed to stay Evil, a dimension where he's 'good' would be the "evil parallel universe" for most. Especially since Paragon Earth set up massive walls to "protect" its citizens, and in Praetoria that wasn't necessary...
[/ QUOTE ]I have always attributed that to the bizarre polarizations of "alternate dimensions" most of which are poorly thought out contrivances to fit a specific writer's what if scenario. I mean really if they hadnt used praetoria as the setting for this, i really wouldnt mind, alternate dimensions rank second only to time travel in poorly thought out literary contrivances in my book. -

The game itself, actually, was taken by one of their creditors or partners or some such, and is apparently being re-developed or continued in Korea. Whether the US or EU will ever see it, or things like the founders offer will be honored still, nobody seems to know.
[/ QUOTE ]to expand this bit because i remember this drama, the korean publisher, hanbitsoft took over development and tried to reopen it in the us, but the co-publisher in the us and i think europe, namco, wont let them. us ip's are blocked, and apparently korean login processes are pretty hard to circumvent. -

At heart, all of you agree with me. A one time fee would be far better. You may be ridiculing it, there's nothing wrong with the idea. The continuous fee is more ridiculous than the idea to replace it with a one-time fee.
[/ QUOTE ]A. no, it isnt, its a practice that the market has validated
B. where exactly are our devs going to get paid from? thats part of what he monthly fee covers. As was said several times, one tiem fees are there to get development houses some much needed cash to launch the game, in the long run we simply dont have the data to say wether it is a viable strategy to maintain a large enough developer studio to maintain the current quality at that rate. keep in mind, coh's team has pretty much tripled, whats going to pay for that? -
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, and look: GuildWars doesn't have a monthly fee either!
And that one's published by NCSoft as well!
[/ QUOTE ]well, here's the thing, first, they werent sure gw was going to even work, a lot of people doubted they would make it, they mentioned that in pc gamer when they announced gw2, but also, the server setup is different between gw and a real mmo. someone who is a better techie could explain it better, but, basicly, the only massive portions of the game are the towns, beyond that its hosted on your comp, hence why you never see another player in zones unless they are in your party.
also, please consider this. gw rarely gives out free content, they happen rarely, like the grenths area and the holiday stuff, but any other expansion is generally sold at full retail. coh has issues which add content on a fairly regular basis that are free. now, do they have as much content as the expansions, well, tricky question, they dont get as many zones or quests, but in each gw expansion, there was 2 new classes introduced. coh added the peacebringers, warshades, widows and soldiers in free expansions(though to be hair splitting, you did have to buy cov to have the option to get soa and widows, but then you also got 5 other at's out of the box), plus there were new powersets added, the closest analog to them in gw would be skills, and the paid expansions were the only ones i recall adding new skills. so there are some significant differences between the setups of the games. coh is a true mmo, and they have, since everquest, been around 15 or so a month to play, that's just the price the market bears.
now you are correct, some mmo's like lotro did have lifetime deals, but those were usually at launch, when the mmo needs cash badly. if coh did have a lifetime sub, im sure a few of us would be in it, but at this stage it would be unique for them to go lifetime, and im not sure id see that as a confidence building thing if they did.
that said, you can shave off the price if you buy time in larger chunks, go yearly and you shave off the cost per month by nearly 5 bucks. if your budget can handle that and you have confidence in the game, that's an option. -
my widow might, but my crab is staying crabby.

1. Sands of Mu. At low levels this is the only thing that makes them playable. I weep for new players who dont have it.

Interesting, because when I make a new character, a lot of times I don't activate the vet attacks in order to give myself some more challenge. Dumb yeah, but works for me.
[/ QUOTE ]not really, im the same way, it kind of keeps me grounded, i cant really say if i like a powerset or not if i start with a cone high damage, a ranged high damage modified by origin, and either another ranged or a neat looking weapon. yeah they drink end, but vurses skulls and damned...not even a challenge. -

i dunno, i dont see the actual levelheaded riled, except maybe evilgecko. i mean bill, lets be honest, you had said before i14 that you were planning on leaving anyhow, so while its sad you are going, you didnt sudenly decide to take a break here, you were planning on taking a break and then i14 had yous tay longer, at elast thats what i got from your comments during i14 beta. so olantern, sam is right, fear when the sane people are worried, but do a reasonable tally of the sane people actually upset.

To be honest, I'm not riled up. I'm super excited about Going Rogue and generally think MA is a fun addition. But I'm very, very disappointed in the devs' actions in response to the MEOW farm. Chalk it up to ten years as a civil defense attorney.
I think their actions here don't speak well for them.
[/ QUOTE ]yeah, i figured as much, but as far as names i actually knew/didnt think was an escaped mental patient that commented negatively on it, you were the only one to come to mind. most of the other regulars i didnt recall seeing much of a pip out of. Didnt want to suggest you were doing the nerdrage thing, but as names go, you were the major one i recalled. heh, i realized that could sound weird, take it as you wish -

... and while I have your attention, make the Mission Architect behave more like the supergroup base editor! I want the ability to PLACE ITEMS WHERE I WANT THEM TO BE! jeesh, bajillions spent to make a new architect system when you HAVE a perfectly fine system already!!!
[/ QUOTE ]this has been discussed already, there Eventually they would like to do this, but not at this time. from what i recall posi saying pathing is one of the considerations they will have to deal with. but theis may come to pass jsut not right now. -
only in that a few posters who are really angry are making over a hundred posts in threads. If anything i have seen a lot of old names and posters mentioning reactivating, and a number of globals that i havent seen light up in months to years have been green again in the last few days, so while thats all just anecdotal evidence, its worth more than a small handfull of posters who abused a specific aspect of the game and their dire predictions of doom. i see a sound and fury, ultimatly signifying nothing.

then go to the gym? its not that hard. i have been a weight rat since long before i played coh. I attribute that to be part of the reason i never did one of those insane 8 hour gaming days you guys talk about...id start going nuts about 4 hours in and have to take a walk.
