Now that can be disappointing to vet players but to new players dozens of zones can seem like it will take forever to explore. We have 40+ zones to CO's 5 zones. Which one will get boring first.
just wante to respond to this, again, i suspect we are going to have to break aside on the idea of wanting to see other players in the zone that we are, but spreading out a modestly sized population over an increasing number of zones only extends the perception that the servers are dead, furthermore, do players currently have a lack of zones to explore? we already have twice as many zones accessable redside, the smaller side, than co has, comparing blueside just makes the comparison more ludicrous.

But heres the issue, the blueside hazard zones, which are what people are usually talking about when we discuss redos, lack any real purpose. outside of silly hunt missions or the occasional missions that throw you in there, when is the last time you have been to boomtown? outside of farming for magic salvage, when is the last time you went to dark astoria? these zones have the feel of being half finished.

Now redside could use new zones, no argument there, and we know we are getting more zones with going rogue, but it just seems like the hazard zones are going to continue looking that much more dated and neglected over time. those same new players who stumble into boomtown and see nothing to do outside of hunting , are they going to be impressed, or are they going to take away the impression that coh is a shoddily put together game with junk zones? I'm not against adding new zones if they have a reason to be, but new zones to just be new zones is a mindset that seems wasteful, especially since most of those zones do carry an interesting story that has been utterly forgotten.
  2. also, lets nto forget that there is a very visually distinct zone, the shadow shard, it just needs a bit more fleshing out, which, if we go by the text of the darrin wade storyline, it may well get post going rogue. I dont think anyone will say that they wouldnt like more content, but likely soon a lot of us will see how much content is coming with going rogue, and while this all is guessing, since we havent had new areas since issue 12, one can assume that gr will have a lot of stuff. If anything i'd like to see us get away from the new zones idea and get to fleshing out existing zones, we simply dont and never have had the populations to support so many zones across multiple servers. faultlining zones really would be a smarter use of resources unless the zone is really distinct, like a space station or somewhere.
  3. aaanyhow, lets answer your question. Outside of farming, the game does hold some challenge, the farmers go so fast because they have pre-selected stuff that poses a lower risk to their specific powersets, step outside of that and they fold hard. fighting a group of dark ring mistresses(a boss unit in the carnival of shadows) can be a humbling experience for a lot of players, as can enemies in the shadow shard, who can cut through defense easily, or pound you with psi damage. So try playing the actual content, and maybe bump up the difficulty.

also, i assume you havent tried a statesman task force, nor a rikti ship raid. I think you will find that rikti magi will fulfill your request for strong enemies. also, have you tried running with a group that has their difficulty up? if the game seems easy, run with a smaller team cranked for 8 players and max levels above you with bosses and then see if the difficulty works for you a bit better. Finally, you should have the oroboros portal by now(the gold power that looks like an infinity symbol), those open mission series that you can customize the difficulty with even further, disabling temp powers, pool powers, and add a time limit and buff enemies, then you can have a real challenge and even get some well designed badges as a bonus.

finally, go to the mission architect and check for some of the "hard" missions, some of them are downright sadistic and will provide you with some real challenge. basically they are the best powers locked together to hurt you as hard as possible.

beat me to it. with characters that have no other source of lethal, they do help quite a bit against the abominations, if only because of their sharp edge. and given that prior to weapon customization, i had no interest in weapon based characters, that was most of them. again, I am a concepter, besides, at my vet level, i can pick 3 of the 4, so its a toss up as to how i feel. sometimes its fun to run around town with an axe...ingame too.
  6. well em, i kind of am with you on the not all great things happened this year, lost my grandmother with whom i was incredibly close after a completely baffling downturn in her health while being treated for minor bruise on her hip from her falling. but you know, she had family with her to the very end, a luxury many residents t the care center didnt seem to enjoy, so there was no goodbye that should have been said and wasn't. But i am still thankful for the 34 years i had her with me, and for the friends that reaffirmed why i was lucky to have them when i needed them (even you goofballs, silly discussions about sci-fi and gaming minutia was a oft-needed pressure release in some days that were far from pleasent).

This also was the year i left a job that i enjoyed but made very little on for a new job that pays a fair bit more and has oppertunities for progress. in a year when a lot of people have been scroungeing for work, i would be foolish not to be thankful that i have a job, even a fairly ok one for the area.

    To Give Thanks

the " help an angel in shelter" tree is up at the local mall finally, thats my usual haunt. lotta kids being poorly served by people who should be better. That a good place for heroes to hit.
  8. named after my main character. rian, which people think is rain misspelled, is an alternate spelling of my name, ryan. a classmate in high school had it spelled this way, and i thought it was nice for going incognito while really not being incognito., Rian's blue skin and dragon themed origin lead me to go with frostdrake, also mildly related to my character from phantasy star online, frostwolf(a blue HUcast, or large robot scrapper'ish character) originally rian's last name was something else, but i had an issue with the login for the first week i played, and had to reroll him. no idea what it was.

This is not the 'Everyone agree with me' forum.
Its not so much that people cant navigate a sentence but rather that you haven't made a more convincing one than that you like pissing in equilibrium fan's cheerios. you have made specious complaints about thematic breadth that are just flatly wrong and seem to be pulling from some design document that you have made in your head that the developers must use that shows no resemblance to current precedent. You have stepped up inflammatory language after failing to be even moderately convincing, and you have completely ignored when people made valid responses to your reasoning, instead opting to be contrarian for the sake of being contrary.

now if you have an actual reason that this little thought exercise not take place, im sure we would all be fascinated, but could it be predicated on something other than you stomping your feet and saying no?

I play almost daily and see smaller pops on Virtue - by looking at the numbers in-game and the server loads. I am sure many will dispute this but I am pretty sure I am right. It's too bad as this is the only game I play. I think the lack of new things to do and new games is killing us...
not really contesting one way or the other about numbers, im saying that you seem to imply that paragon is hiding something by not putting out numbers, and i merely asked you to find any other mmo that gives out subscription numbers. It seems more that ncsoft went with the ndustry standard, rather than a kind of deception of the players. I'm willing to bet that with the weaker economy and job numbers, competiton from within the genre for the first time, a high profile launch of aion and the lack of new storyline stuff, the numbers probably are down, though not significantly because the server global channels i belong to seem to have the usual suspects present and accounted for, but looking at the ncsoft sales quarter data in the other thread, its not significant. I also think that the content infusion of going rogue will likely bring us back some prodigal sons. heck, given the economy, i'd be willing to bet that most mmos are seeing some decline(outside of aion which is still pretty new and shiny), entertainment budgets tend to get cut when times are lean.

as for other games, wish i had your dilemma, im still slogging through my pile of shame myself, been working on fallout 3 dlc stuff, and loving the mothership zeta. next up, finishing sacred 2 and its expansion.then new smb wii, got a few extra hours a day to sell?

we have been over this a few times, and not to derail, but could you post me a link to the sub numbers of any mmo? And i dont mean mmocharts,if they still update, i mean any mmo, warcraft, eq2, conan, warhammer,Aion, guildwars, champs, just gimmie a link to any one where the publisher gives exact numbers, not just the wow hype machine 11 million number stuff. heck, ryzom or istaria if you can find it, but im looking for any other mmo that publishes its sub numbers. thanks in advance for your effort.
  13. ok, was just playing and went back into the shadow shard to finish a kora fruit mish i have had for about 4 issues now..and you know, an expansion pack that focused entirely on expanding the shadow shard i would buy the @#$% out of.It has such potential and is so unfinished. full retail, dont care, just gimmie a shard expansion pack. honestly, paretoria was a pleasent surprise and seems to be coming along well, but I would have preferrred the expansion focus on the shard, there are so many angles you could go with it.

fortunately, given its limited thematic use. But i reiterate, you are being overly sensitive about the thematic limitations of the pistols. all pyre mastery powers are flames, generally when you take an epic powerset, then you do so for the theme. really, given the thematic breadth of the ways pistols have been used, from westerns, to the matrix and similar sci-fi action films, to anime fantasy stuff like chrono crusade or trinity blood. even hellboy had a pistol, but it was a method of delivering the magical weakneses of monsters. so pistols have been able to fit a broad number of settings, So i really am unconvinced that pistols are much more narrow than the other sets.

oh, and its two powers, to nitpick, exploding shuriken as well.

i reiterate this question. pistols have at least been used a great deal more, culturally, than a relatively obscure weapon(prior to the 80's ninja popularity boom) from the japanese feudal era. honestly, it may be a animation timing disaster, but it would be cooler to have there be a kind of customization whereas shuriken, throwing daggers, throwing axes, and pistols would be substitutable for each other to avoid epic pool bloat, but still make the weapon mastery pool thematically broad enough for a number of naural heroes. but i'm not thinking that would be doable, even in the current system.
  16. You Scored as Neutral GoodA Neutral Good person tries to do the 'goodest' thing possible. These people are willing to work with the law to accomplish their goal, but if the law is corrupt they are just as willing to tear it down. To these people, doing what's right is the most important thing, regardless of rules, customs, or laws.

    Neutral Good 90%
    Lawful Evil 75%
    Lawful Neutral 60%
    Lawful Good 60%
    True Neutral 50%
    Chaotic Evil 30%
    Neutral Evil 25%
    Chaotic Neutral 25%
    Chaotic Good15%
ok, im a bit confused by the lawful evil being next to me rather than lawful good, since i scored on the good axis of neutral, but hey, construct validity can be a bugger.

Once those sensible reasons are outlaid, I can move on to the non-sensible ones, like how every time an Equilibrium fan is disappointed, an angel gets its wings.
not my dog in the fight, but addressing the pistols being too conceptually narrow to fit in the existing power pools, i dont see it. given how within game we have different styles of ammunition affecting secondary effects for both the council and malta, there is no reason that there couldn't be a non-lethal slug working as a stun, or a acid splatter bullet providing a debuff. or even a glue bullet providing an immob, or we could got he western route and have trickshots that have varying effects from hitting thematically valid targets. redraw would be an issue, however minor given that the at has a number of redraw inducing powers and has been able to do quite well for itsself. pistols not working like pistols would be as much of a concern as bows and arrows being used for silly but comic themed powers like glue, webs and freeze blasts, which is to say, people who want it will deal, particularly in a game where you arrest people by chopping through their clavicles with katanas. And finally, its really not for you to decide what at needs or doesnt need new epic powers, scrappers just got more than 3 options recently, and still dont have as many options as controllers. So your remaining reason is that you enjoy people not getting what they want? tha'ts all i am seeing that is really valid from your post.

as i see it, both pistol epics and blasters having martial arts skills are things that have plentiful examples from comics to justify their inclusion, and seem to have quite a vocal fanbase. but personally, eh, not my style either way, dont like guns.

they mention the other guys in the write up, but really it does kind of make coh the more prominent one, all the better i say.
  20. I will chime in too, my main and namesake is a MA/SR/dark, and i have had consistant fun since very close to launch. The main annoyances i have had are marauder and the end of the lgtf, beyond that the set hits like a truck, and with dark's aoe's it can be properly nasty. plus, as said, it looks better than the other sets and hopefully will see more additional animations in the future. It has been buffed a few times, including some nice timing changes that salvaged cak.

I also think the prices on some the items should be reduced. The prices were fine when the raid was new, and it was getting run a lot, but now not so much.
which server do you mean? I know on liberty we have a specific raid night, and it seems that a number of servers have those, have you checked the server subforums? If not, maybe try to schedule one. a good raid can net 300 or so merits.

are we really lacking power suit options?? I'm counting a number of full tech suit options so maybe there are other less filled niches. To the question at hand, unless we see a token styled system in place, adding more stuff is just going to put more things out of reasonable reach of most newer players. Its not a concern for me since i have been here since near the beginning, but for newer players, its a bit unreasonable.
  23. personally i would head towards neutral good, as i recognize one form of law as just, but certainly none that humans have created. by smurch's take, id be lawful, but by any version dealing with human law, i'm neutral with a nudge towards chaotic at times.

as for characters, Rian is similar to me, seraph blue would be fully lawful good, violet tendencies would be chaotic good, dire worg would likely be neutral good, the only character i would say that is actually evil would be my crab soldier, Sonya radcliffe. her outlook would be neutral evil. most of my other villains are generally getting by in a bad situation, but dont relish the taking of life.and of course most of my heroes would run the spectrum from neutral to lawful good.

a warning to keep your expectations reasonable. the customization options currently only effect primary and secondary powers on the base classes. eventually epics, patrons, pools and epic at's are planned to get customization, but not yet.

if you have a character with thorns or spines, check out the new options. they are customizable, and i rather like the crystalline ones.

finally, you will also note, if you play redside, that dominators got a new assault set, earth assault. its pretty effective and has 2 "skins" for the powers, lava and crystal, also, elemental weapons are finally slightly customizable. so far its just jugglings of the greater and lesser elemental swords, but its a start.
  25. It is really hard to say ahead of time, they have been pretty good at surprising me thus far, so how about, "i will pay for well implemented ideas and good looking costumes" have those, get my cash. Though honestly I did buy the science booster largely as a show of support for the developers, It doesnt take an economist to tell you that more cash coming in makes the game more secure, and the cost has thus far been trivial.
