  1. This is what I did, I also have a /regen guide link in my sig to help with that slotting if you need help there.

MoG cannot be made permanent, that likely would break the game...but...you can have shadowmeld from the Soul PPP on redside, run tips to go red and back to blue and get it, it's worth it. You can get MoG down to about 50-60 seconds of recharge pretty easily meaning it's down 35-45 seconds and up 15 seconds, paired with SM you end up with a window of about 20-30 seconds.

You can run SM/MoG/SM for 45 seconds of gapless coverage that is pretty potent.

  2. I would swap the damage only apoc piece for damage/end...since it is the only end mod in the set...and you will still be right at the ED cap for everything anyway...other than that looks good.
  3. I would go agility...it is my go to Alpha for Dark Armor toons...and I have 5 of them...
  4. This would be how I might do it...also...I have a /regen guide in my sig you might want to check out...

  5. put 5 armageddon's in Soul Drain and 5 or 6 oblits in Dark Consumption...if you don't need the 6th oblit put a single generic end mod IO in it just so you get a little boost here and there in case you need it.
  6. I would swap the slotting in Soul Drain and Dark Consumption if it was me personally...Soul Drain is up more often, and frankly hits a wee bit harder...plus, IIRC it costs more endurance and Armageddon has more end redux in it.

Attack chain would look something like MG->Smite->SL->Smite and you could throw in a dark blast in there somewhere...and a Soul Drain/Dark Consumption each time they come up...Also, I see the 6th slot in Apoc set...and I understand why you did it, but...the 5% defense to psi isn't worth it
  7. Awesome keep me posted on your build progress!
  8. Invulnerable is very solid...I cannot recall, but if invincibility buffs positional defense also when you are in range of foes, you might be able to go positional, I would look at it at least.

If not, then I would definitely skip Divine Avalanche and take the early AoE as an attack instead, slot for S/L/E/N/F/C easily...all you need to do is put 3 Aegis resists in your auto/inherent powers, 4 reactive armors in resist toggles...luck of the gambler everywhere you can...and take Manu/CJ/Tough/Weave etc. to help you get your defenses where you want them.
  9. erm...I understand wanting lots of End Mod...but 6 slotting Perf Shifters is a waste...big time...

Armageddon is MUCH better in FS...6 slotted with 5 armageddons (proc included) and a FF proc for +Rech.

I hope you plan on running ageless if you're going to leave in all those Oblit sets...they're nice for bonuses, but if you're actually going to use any of those powers, the endurance redux is terrible in that set...you'll be sucking wind in a hurry...

I think most ATs are really close to what they should be now...Brutes are just in a sweet spot for melee with enough survival and enough damage...blasters need some kind of buff...and if Tanks need MOAR DAMAGE NAO! Then I say pass out a little damage buff...however...keep this in mind.

If you want to go around talking about brutes being at the resistance cap and damage cap...you're losing your audience...The only way I could see a brute even getting close to capping any resists would be Energy on Elec, Fire on FA, and S/L on Stone (in Granite w/tough and 3% res unique)...Invuln won't even break 75-80% to S/L on a brute...and those already cap for tanks and scrappers too...

I play scrappers when I want to do pure damage, at the expense of survivability...

I play tanks when I want sheer survivability, at the expense of damage...

I play brutes when I want something in between, at the expense of higher base values that tanks get, and less burst damage than scrappers...(most of the time, as it were...)

You think they are too good at both because...? Why? The resistance caps are high? So what...they can't even get to them without significant buffs, and those only occur in high end game content anyway...that's an edge case example at best, and the devs will say as much.

They have too high a damage cap? Why? Because their base values are significantly lower than scrappers to start with? Maybe, because they have to build fury to do any comparable damage to a scrapper? The numbers look big, but you are multiplying a MUCH smaller number than with a scrapper, and fury does complicate things, but not that much and it plays into the cap anyway...remember the base damage modifier for brutes is 0.75 and for scrappers is 1.125...who looks so good on paper now? You need that high damage cap to get even close to the same numbers...and Scrappers get critical hits too...and your % there can be increased with ATO uniques, etc. buffing them even more...so the disparity becomes greater...

But the middle AT needs a Nerf when everything else gets buffed to the gills? Brutes are not so far ahead of anybody else...don't fool yourselves into thinking that...it would be a serious waste of your time...they are just about right...and scrappers are too. Tanks don't need to be Brutes...they need to be Tanks...so figure out what you need to do to make that work...right now all you can all seem to half way agree on...is that your AT can only be fixed by nerfing everything else to the ground...and that will get you nowhere.
  11. I have played this game since 2005-2006...to my recollection Scrapper resist caps were never more than 75% since I started. Tanks don't need brutes adjusted down...they need a tune up and a new transmission.

You guys act like these caps are an enormous factor and brutes live it rolling at everything hardcapped...they don't.

If anything you guys do more of that than anybody...so get it bumped
  12. That was my thinking in pairing the 2 together...plus if I can stack rage, then I should easily overcome the damage debuff and then some.
  13. I understand, but this is one of those times where I had a concept in my head, never rolled a /stone toon, and I thought...what the heck...why not?

So it will be a work in progress...
  14. So fixing your favorite AT requires nerfing the daylights (or sufficiently enough anyway) out of the second most damage dealing AT in the melee sets so that one has to sacrifice most survivability to get any damage (3rd if you include stalkers since the changes)?

Look at pylon times...brutes are up there, but Night Widows and Stalkers and Scrappers still obliterate their times.

I like tanks...tanks do have an inherent advantage that some of you think is redundant...that is boosted defense and resist and HP base numbers...I have a Dark Armor tank with just shy of 2500 HP...I have a Dark Armor brute that barely breaks 2000 HP...both of those are with accolades but it is a very clear point.

I like brutes...far better than scrappers...though scrappers still deal more damage...Brutes feel like a good solid middle road between tanks and scrappers. More defensive ability than scrappers, but similar base values, just higher caps...(which are not easily leveraged...but are there.)

I also think nerfing SS is a bad idea...isn't that one of the best powersets for you guys too? Just curious...cause I sure see a boatload of SS or TW or Fire tanks...and I know they wouldn't have so many if you guys weren't looking at damage numbers. Personally I don't see that getting ported to scrappers anytime soon, and I don't see them touching it anytime soon...it would cause an uproar the likes of which would take a complete turnover in staff to extinguish the flames of revolt....

Brutes don't need a nerf...you guys need something that is truly yours, I agree with that...but the direction you're going will not get you traction if you think that the devs will completely nerf an entire AT while everything else gets adjustments upward...it doesn't make any sense with the trends that things are moving towards...
  15. I spent 9.5 bil inf on my last brute build....I will not be having issues with a high end cost on the build as long as it does what I want.

Secondly I have played Super Strength on several other toons, and I am comfortable with how it will play...the KB is not excessive, in fact it is mostly knock-up/down...
  16. I realize leveling a /Stone anything will be a long process and a work in progress until I am done...but...this is what my final build will look like, and I was hoping to get a set of eyes on it for any tips/tricks I may have missed/overlooked. I have never actually bothered to make a /Stone toon before, but with Ageless and so many other things available today I thought I might try it...

Welcome to the club! My Katana/Dark brute is one of my favorite toons, and if you run around on Justice, give me a shout sometime, I'll help you get up to 50 if I've got any time.
  18. I think the reason the -resists are considered OP by the Devs was that AH and PVP procs can only be slotted into select powers and not any power in an AT's primary set...

Think about it...6 slot this set in Rend Armor for TW or Follow Through for that matter...it would be absurd to have 2 such procs in that attack chain, pylon times would be cut down dramatically.

I agree it's a good fit in the ATO set, but I think 20% may be a bit overkill to go into any power...

    I would take 10%...think about that...AH proc+PVP proc+ATO proc+reactive interface=insanity that's a combined 70% of -res debuff...that's a nasty thought...
  19. I agree with -resist...that makes much more sense...

They took out the recharge bonus too??

The resists bonus I actually don't mind in slot 6 bonus, but, there are some changes I would make...
  20. SOs Only, I would say honestly 3 sets seem like the best fit for very "tanky" brute...

Invulnerable...it is what it is and it is very good at S/L and pretty good against everything else...

Regen...while it benefits from set bonuses...on SOs Regen is hard to beat...you can still get good resists and defense numbers through pool powers and your regen numbers can still be amazing...

SR...Super reflexes WILL softcap on SOs...add in tough and a few other things from pools and you will get to where you need to be to survive.

    What to pair with them?

DM is excellent as it has a built in heal (which is also an EXCELLENT attack) and built in end recovery (which is a PBAoE attack, also) and Soul Drain (also a PBAoE attack) which is a pretty nasty self buff and it's up pretty often. This power goes ridiculously well with SR because it has what SR doesn't...also goes well with Invuln too...I have a DM/INV brute that's 50+3...he's a beast all IO'd out with incarnates...probably one of the toughest toons I ever built.

Elec Melee is excellent if you want AoE, because it has it in spades...not so much ST damage, but you could pick up gloom for that...and it would go well with Invuln or Regen

Also, you can always go Super Strength...if you did, I would likely recommend it with Regen, though you could go invuln or SR with it, you would have to pick up some epic pool end recovery powers to compensate for it's endurance cost or slot heavily for end redux...where as regen has End Mod in spades already.
  21. planet_J

    Claws/Bio

Yes it will be great...lots of utility and good survival.
  22. planet_J

    Claws/Bio

Playing SS/Bio and it looks good...I could see claws working out too...but I think SS lends itself well.
  23. This is my personal build for this combo, and I would also say take a look at my /Regen guide in my sig...it is an awesome combo and hits HARD.

    Is TW/DA Viable?

It is absolutely awesome on a brute...I built it softcapped to S/L/E/N and it mows everything down...I took energy mastery for superior conditioning and physical perfection to run the end, plus agility alpha...I went ageless radial for the Def Debuff resists and never looked back...

GREAT COMBO, will take some work to get it right though...but it is easily accomplishable.
