I didn't eye your new build yet but wanted to link my thread. I think between the 2 threads players should be able to create a decent build for a reasonable amount of money.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219789
Edit
Looked over your build, again I love your Accuracy bonus. I know you have the funds. I just don't have that type of bank roll. I'm a cheapskate.
Your ranged defense is good. I think the Tankermind experts need to step in and just address your defenses. I will also add your Resistances are decent also. Again I have issue with your defense.
Further does that accuracy bonus convert over to your pets ? I do not think it does.
I can see you using provoke and taking a nice hit which might be very difficult to heal out of.
I have Hover which really helps out some with the defenses. Also I have Mace Mastery Scorpion shield which is DEFENSE and not resistance
From I was told in the past when asking about specing my storm rad defender. I was told always spec for Defense.
I pretty much stuck to that rule for many of the toons. I have been also respecing a bunch of old toons since I came back and regardless of what type of toon it is, the same comments come up of specing defense or at a minimum ranged defense followed by another main or types when possible.
EG I have a Dark Electric that I was able to get high in Ranged but could not build up melee or AOE up sufficiently. But I was able to kick up the individual fire, cold, energy defenses up to a decent rate.
I'm keeping an eye your thread because its a good thread to see what a high roller can do with a spec. And it gives me something to work up too if I so choose. -
I am a bit confused on how to use the numpad bind options for demon summoning since the first pets are labeled Demonling and the second pets are named Demon.
All other pet groups have different titles so it is easy to make a thug, enforcer, bruiser, ETC file for them. Plus of course they are already created in the threads for easy copy and paste.
Anyone have an idea for a work around ?
I have it working atm, but they just all do the same thing. Not the end of the world but with Robot MM I sometimes break them into 3 groups to fight different mobs. -
What is the standard Painbringer slotting ? Are the buffs from it high enough that End Redux is fine to slot or do people slot Inventions in it ?
I went 4 slot with 2 heal Inventions and 2 End Mod Inventions for the Recovery bonuses from each set. But I am thinking IF 2 Endurance Reduction Inventions are good enough, then I can possibly use the other 2 slots in a better place. -
Yet more corrections and improvements as given by the player base.
When I could, I would also add in a +Recovery and +Regen in Health.
Painbringer - I have no clue about the slotting as you can see I went for the End recovery bonus. I don't know what the proper slotting for that is. If standard IO's are good enough I could possibly 5 slot something else for some set bonus improvement.
I thought I read that Blessing of Zephyr is going to get a stat change so I don't know how the defenses will change.
EDIT - Changed Painbringer from 4 slots to 2 slots and placed Recharge Redux in it. I then 5 slotted Scorpion Shield and Maneuvers with Red Fortune for the recharge time bonus. End results I did take a hit in Endurance regen and lost some Fire Defense. Overall my Defenses SLIGHTLY increased ( By tenths of a point in some places ). But powers like Hell on Earth dropped down 9 seconds in recharge from 235 to 226 and World of Pain dropped down to 98 seconds from 102. The duration on World of Pain is 90 seconds.

Val straight and simple, I would use my build that I posted and was tweaked then trying to redo. I think my build layout is much better with the tweaks then yours is. The defenses in that build are much higher.
You have provoke but do not have the defenses to back it up.
You have many PvP sets which only offer you these additional bonuses in PvP. Are you looking to PvP with the build ? Then I can see where the Resistance numbers are much better, but again even for PvP you can get a better build.
Since money is not an issue, then I would work with my build posted and kick up the Inventions to better ones. Again mind you color does not mean they are always better. As it depends on what your trying to do.
I would swap out provoke for Painbringer at least.
I don't think you need all the attacks from the demon set. Honestly I think 1 of them is fine as you will be busy controlling the pets, since they run all over the place regardless of which type of Mastermind you have.
I will say your Accuracy bonus is nice, but I do not know how that transfers over to the pets. I just don't have that knowledge regarding invention bonuses and pets. If they do its great. Then I would just pay whatever is needed to max out your defenses but still trying to keep that accuracy bonus for the pets. Then you will be golden. -
Headcutter when your in the Import section of the character builder on the RIGHT SIDE under formatting Code Type, Either pick Titan Forums OR PhPBB/Zetaboard to make the posting look correct.
And click Preview to verify it. Otherwise it looks like a train wreak and further your giving the impression of not caring when some have already commented about your post.
I think your a bit all over the place with the current build. -

Quote:Well that is clearly a decision your gonna have to make. Defense or Looks.Hi guys im a level 50 Demon Summon/Pain and i'm wondering what you guys think would be better between Ghost Widow or Scorpion patron?
The extra defence seems nice but i think GW's choices look more fun :P
I will be honest no one will be looking at your Ghost Widow shield effects. You will have too much going on with the other power effects and those big deamon's running around.
Though they will notice when your dead and not helping the team out. -
Quote:Zmoosh, I think the 2nd build I posted with the tweaks given is a much better build then what you have listed. I believe it's much cheaper also.I was also thinking that DS/Pain looks to have lots of synergy, but I have never played a pain toon. Playing around with mids I came up with this.
World of pain recharge is a 3 second difference. yours is at 99 and mine is at 102. But my defense clearly outweighs your set.
Btw I never played pain myself. So I'm in a bit in the dark as well with it. -
I did the recommended changes and it's much better. I think the good thing is once people beat it up enough and it gets reworked, it ends up being somethings solid to work with for other builds as well.

IF your going to solo then Demon Storm. But if your in a group forget it, unless they know you. I do not see many players who have the patience for storm or are willing to somewhat cooperate by pulling or herding into areas ( corners ) that can be used by Storm more effectively.
I think Demon FF x 2 is over kill a bit. Will it get you all the defenses you need, sure and then some. But I run with less defenses on a defender and solo +1 +8 content. I have a robot FF that would have been closer to cap if I didn't have my PvP button enabled in mids during the build. Again which has minimal problems.
I think running with 3 Demons you will have no issues. I would go for maybe Pain x 2 and one FF. double heals, double ress. All 3 are group friendly. Double debuffs and buffs from some of the pain powers.
Or go Dark, FF, Pain. The AOE heal of Dark is superior, but has the target issue. Mine does miss sometimes and requires me to use a Accuracy enhancer at times against AVs. The Defense buffs and hit debuffs of Dark with FF will make it VERY hard for AVs to hit you along with the henchmen. Pain does help with the heals when Dark heal fails to go off. FF is nice when combined with Darkest Knight and Shadow fall.
Again Dark, FF, Pain another group friendly Trio.
I played in a all storm SG long ago. The basic tactic was everyone who had O2 would spam the player who was the designated puller. Which was usually a Dark spec player. We learned and would teach newer SG members how we used Hurricane to hold mobs into corners without getting close enough to spit mobs out. Between the Freezing Rain chains that we would apply and the Lighting Storms. Everything would just die in the corner in seconds. But again we were all Storm so we had the patience. I don't think many players do though and do not want to be bothered with doing any sort of setup to pull mobs, when they are so used to running in to do a smash and grab. -
I changed 3 of Inventions. Which increased your overall defenses but it did drop your Ranged defense from 45 to 43 and your Hit Point regen dropped from 180 to 170. You did get a increase in End regen and a decrease in End use.
Siphon insight on Dark Servant
Blood Mandate on hell on earth
Reactive Armor on Dark embrace
Side note, I have a Dark Electric Defender with less defenses that is soloing +8 +1. Your Defenses are way better then his. Granted I do not know how your defenses relate to your pets though.

I believe the build is decent. Defenses are high, but not at the cap. Heals seem decent as well. Endurance Ratio is well at 2.5 gain.
Overall I think I'm finally getting some of this stuff. BUT nothing like posting it up to be critiqued. So without further adieu.

Simply, with all the cool things you can do with bases now, I wonder how it will affect base raids, if and when they decided to reimplement them.
As some can remember, some bases were purposely created or restructured for raids to trap players within locations. The Devs then created those zone boundaries around items that attempted to prevent players from stacking items together to create these jails.
Not trying to create a DOOOOM thread, just thinking / wondering what will be ahead.
Has anyone heard of any ideas they might be tossing around for base raids ?
Or am I just behind in the times and it already has been discussed ? -
Quote:I understand what your saying. But I would imagine behind the scenes the items are tagged in a database with the permissions. So that being said, I do not see it impossible. If you have 5 Commercial Cybernetics and 3 are tagged Leadership only and 2 are tagged for everyone. I don't see how difficult it is for the system not to compare the persons listed rank on the database and then determine how many he can take out. This has been dicussed, in another form.
There are Threads about being able to access all your storage from any Storage Device, to know what you have, and retrieve it. It was met with DOOOOOMMMMM! And, I can say to a good purpose this time.
To be able to access all your Storage from a central point, and manipulate it, destroys the integrity of the Storage Permissions. Meaning, If you had a Computer that could access all Base Storage, and display it to you in a way that you could get it from that terminal, you could steal your SG Leader's hard earned IO's he/she was saving for his next Alt. (That is just a summary of the arguments that went on in those Threads).
The only way to keep that from happening would be if they gave us a way to Label our Storage Devices, and a way to label the Room they are in. They would then have to give us a way to Set Permissions on those Labels so certain Storage Devices didn't show up, or were Labeled Unaccessible.
While It sounds simple enough, it opens another can of worms so to speak. Without the Labeling of the Storage Racks and Rooms, how would you know where to go get it if you have multiple Storage Racks spread out over Multiple Rooms Providing the Computer doesn't do that for you? Unless the Computer Terminal itself shows a display of your Base Map, and Either Highlights the Room, or the Storage Container.
Seeing as our Map feature just shows the Room layout, and not the Content, that would take considerable programming.
Not trying to "Rain on Your Thread", just trying to give an idea of what it might take to make it happen.
Black
Further the computer would only display what your rank was allowed anyways so in my previous example you would only see 3 items if you were not leadership rank.
It does require linking a new object with other items. ETC.
I'm a solo guild. I could only imagine those guilds with the largest bases and 5x the amount of storage bins.
I am certain that RL programing exist to create a database on permissions. We use something along these lines at my work place. We the workers can see certain things in the database. The bosses can see things related to their divisions and workers below them and the big bosses can see everything.
Just sort of funny you build this SUPER Computer for the base but it can't keep track of your stuff. -
I run a solo base with 2 workshops full of storage. I would trade in a storage bin if I could look at a computer that would just give me a list of all my salvage in all my bins. I will admit I am not into sorting stuff out and keeping tabs on what goes where.
Just would really be nice to go and look in one place instead of going through each of the bins every time. Especially when you know you have it but just don't remember which bin it was in. -
Secondary set Booster pack for each power set.
What I am trying to get is basically having 2 powers to pick from a line for a given level range. As an example I will use Devices. You can pick up Trip mine at level 28. Instead of being able to pick only Trip mine you would have an option from the Booster pack to pickup Sticky Grenade. Basically A bomb you toss at a mob that blows him up and does AOE around him. Maybe does less damage but can be used more often.
Instead of Targeting Drone at level 10. Aid Bot, basically heals you similar to aid self. Instead of Gun Drone, maybe a mech type robot you get from Vet reward. Walks around shooting mobs with lasers. Again a different type of damage.
Or maybe allow for players the option of mixing up some melee and ranged attacks. Instead of Rain of Arrows you can pick up head splitter.
Again just some ideas to make you understand the concept. -
Quote:Ahh.. okay.. I guess I can give it a shot. .do have a bunch of respecsI'd like you to look up the Repeat Offenders and ask them about their Fallout teams. I've been bait on a few of them, and it's honestly a lot of fun.
Also, I love having EM Pulse on controllers. It's one of the best control powers in the game, which is why it takes so much endurance. It's like a mini-nuke, so I treat it like one and pop a couple of blue insps. It isn't as if the enemies will be going anywhere for a little while. -
I have fallout but I have to say I hardly use it, I honestly forget sometimes or the player has ressed up already before I can use it as they even forgot, which is understandable also. So I am not using as much as I would like to.
EM Pulse I'm a bit scared loosing my end being a controller.
So trying to get a feel how players are using in the rad secondary.
Its a Earth Rad build I am working on BTW. -
@Panzerwaffen
Mind you I am doing the Wall my way. I am NOT killing the way the Brute, Tanks and Scrappers are persay. I am laying out 5 or 6 trip mines, I have Aid Self. When I jump on that wall I pretty much screw it all up for the speed runners who have the spawn timings down. But nonetheless I am pretty much conforming to the standard AR Device play of toe bombing, caltrops, Jumping around to gain max targets in my AOE. Mobs are falling off the wall from the explosions, Etc..
Your right about the +8 comment. But I am positive if you seen what I have to do or the time spent. You would see that the time to gain ratio is out the window. I am just doing it to see if I can. It could take me over an hour to clear out a mission I might have done with a group in 20 minutes. Solo all your powers are helpful. Team wise though some of those powers become very weak to down right useless depending on the team make up and / or experience.
Funny you made the comment you did about the team. One of my lines during my posting was going to say, " I know that people might feel the team I was on was bad or had issues and not my fault, But beyond there knockback issues, they were pretty good people."
I have played with some of them in the past on other toons ( Though they didn't know ). The only reason I didn't put in that comment was I simply felt I was leaving myself open for a couple of insults from others. It was just too much of a loaded comment to leave open. I can say enough of the other stuff without giving someone an easy open shot.
I have the munitions set epic, I have it all but Sleep Grenade. I included those in my 3 power only use comment. Aid Other and Aid Self are useful, but the healer really did his part and as I mentioned in other postings several of the players put IO's to good use on this team. So there wasn't anything mission critical that was missing from the team that made anyone work too hard.
Meaning Tanks hardly took any major damage, the same for the scrappers. One or 2 ranged attack users took some hits that the healer pretty much took care of in seconds as the scrappers / tank took back any aggro. Simply people had a clue about the game mechanics. Again back to your point. Caltrops would have made them run away that follows along the same issues as Ignite. I do not have Burst because at the time this spec was made years ago, Burst was an under performer when compared to Slug. I am pretty sure I have a KB Proc in Slug and I even think in Buckshot. Cloaking device only serves me. Target Drone only serves me. Smoke Grenade Just had no use for them. You can compare that to having 2 Energy players running into the same group of minion to nuke. Just too much over kill. My only single target DPS attacks are Slug and Sniper. I Do not have Bean Bag, Taser or Time Bomb. I pretty much gave out my build here.
I guess your correct though I should have correctly said out of the 17 possible attack powers I have, I was stuck pretty much using only 3 of them to help the team. 8 from Assault, 5 From Devices ( counting in Web Grenade, Smoke Grenade and Target Drone but not Cloaking Device) and 3 from Epic ( counting in Freeze Ray but not Body Armor ). Though some could debate that Target Drone does not help a team but only myself. Other could argue that having more Accuracy making me miss less is helping a team. 6 of one, half a dozen of another debate.
I hear what your saying about make a new. I believe that the Devs should update components of Devices to make them more useful for today's gaming environment. -
I am not too happy with my 50 AR Device toon atm as you can see by the thread above this one.
BUT if I were going to use any spec posted I would without a doubt use Adeon Hawkwood build. That includes your build
Simply if you open up the view totals tab you will see he is decently speced for Ranged Defense and the endurance use is very low.
I think with Energy as a secondary you will be much more happy unless your the type that needs a theme or story behind each build and cannot think of one your happy to use for AR Energy.
Regardless you need to change up your build and rework it as was already mentioned. IF your not into IO's I am not going to lie, your missing out and will die a lot. I suggest you pick up aid self. Or go with Adeon Hawkwood build( Oh did I say that already )
-
@ Gilia and Tulare
Simply, thank you for understanding where I am coming from.
So people know. I do have Gaussian build up proc. I do have a stealth IO in my Super speed. I do have a KB Proc in my Buckshot. Solo it is pretty cool running him. I run 0 +8, I do the wall in Chimera. But then again Solo any toon is okay since it does not matter how long you take to kill mobs.
Yesterday I was asked 3x to stop using KB, the last time I explained in tell I was only using KB powers when I knew the damage would kill them out right and if 1 or 2 were left alive by chance I would make it my job to clean up my mess. They just didn't care. I used ignite and they were not happy that mobs would run off a bit. When I mean a bit, I mean the mobs would turn around and run a few steps before going back to the tank. I eventually just left the team politely and switched toons in disgust. I have 24 powers and was stuck using Full Auto, Flamethrower and Gun Drone. -
Quote:OMG, where do I start. The more you post to attack me, the more you make it crystal clear you really, really do not read anything else in this thread that myself or anyone has posted. Who are you Kanye West at the vmas.I guess it's a matter of asking yourself why I (and others) asked you those (same) questions.
I don't need to dig through to find those answers because those questions were for you. I didn't need the answers.
I enjoy playing AR/Dev blasters when I play them. I don't find any deficiency when I play them. I think they are fun to play. I'm not mini-maxing or exploiting. I'm playing the game to have fun. I'm not scared to play on the servers (I do NOT like to team with exploiters so some server(s) are just no fun for me because they have just become rotten-with-exploiters and isolationists as far as I'm concerned).
If you think some other set is so good, then just don't worry about playing AR/Dev blasters any more and play something else.
We all know that the power-sets aren't balanced. We all should know by know that the archetypes are lack balance (compared to one another) even worse than the variation of balance of power sets within an archetype.
I don't need to jump in with numbers. You're the one "claiming" numbers. Generate them.
I could care-less about the numbers. I'm here to have fun and number-crunching and mini-maxing isn't part of my fun-equation any more. I have better things to do and playing with an AR/Dev blaster is one of them.
I don't have a problem with knockback. I enjoy it.
So far - I've never been kicked from a team for using knockback. (I have a level 50 Eng/Eng blaster - they do way more knockback than AR/Devs do)
However, I don't take the grenade-launcher power or bean-bag for AR either.
Of course, I'm not into farming or lug-nut tank-chasing. I like to play with a little finesse, tactics, and style which is often a drag on the mini-max, dps, bull-in-the-china-shop players. To each their own.
I don't need number to prove to me that playing a AR/Dev blaster is fun.
It sort of already is like DP as it does different damage types already.
AR/Devs are more of a finesse blaster. It takes time and strategy to use them to their potential and they can control the area of battle a lot more than other blaster set combos. No other blaster secondary set give you invisibility or smoke grenades.
The Targeting Drone is a toggle that constantly buffs your ACC - and, if you really want Build-up, you could slot a Gaussian Fire-Control :: Chance for Build-up in it.
If you can't keep up with the team, then try to get ahead of it and set up for the next group while they are fighting the first one. (If you can't figure out how to do this, it isn't worth my time trying to explain it to you.)
Your tactics are lacking. You can adapt. ... or maybe not ... it seems you have made that point clear.
No reason trying to convince you otherwise.
Have fun hating your AR/Dev blaster.
I'll spend my time enjoying mine (Trip and Timer).
Its obvious you have some assumption about me being some exploiter as you make comments about exploiters 3x in one sentence. Well you got me your right. Let me go pick up the one of my weakest blaster to go exploit with. I can go get my Electric Shield Fire Scrapper, but for some insane reason I want to have a challenge while I go EXPLOITING.
Gaussian Fire Control has a build up.. Gosh, why didn't I think of that. OH Wait I do have it in my Target Drone.
Just cut and paste what you said in the first place. It's pretty much the same you said the first time. Lets give instructions on how to play a toon. Whats next your gonna tell us how to toe bomb ?
I appreciate you going over everything you don't like to do in this game. I am glad that you know your Eng/Eng has more KB then AR Device. Sadly since you refuse to read, your missing the point.
Lets just agree to disagree. I'm a big boy to admit when I am wrong. But you seem to be talking this way too personal. -
