Quote:Roger that. Have you ever tried to give it a go?Screenshots and a log of the combat channel should be enough.
In retrospect, doing it without inspirations at all might be tougher than I originally thought it might be (perhaps not even possible), just because of the DPS/regen limit, something I wasn't aware of even when I made a few goes of it using inspirations.
Out of curiosity too, has anyone come up with an estimate on DPS output of bots, before or after slotting them with IO's? And traps as well? While traps damage is fairly light (apart from the trip mine which still also has a low DPS because of its recharge time), it can get complicated when chance for damage procs are worked into some of these. Along with the MM's own attacks, it's a lot to try to add up because several of these will be going on or be active at the same time. If no one has done this yet, I might try my hand at arriving at a DPS figure with bonuses added, damage buff powers used (i.e. whether assualt is being used) and any other assumptions clearly stated. -
Just want to say thanks to both you and Santorican and FreezeWave for posting your build suggestions. I also have a DM/SD/BM scapper at 49th level looking to do a respec. She's not soft-capped in defense and I probably overemphasized accuracy and recharge (for the attack chain) in the build. I chose many of the same powers and IO sets you did, probably more like a hybrid of these with a few cheaper (and not quite as effective) sets in place.
Just curious... is it generally necessary for a DM/SD to include the fighting pool with Weave to attain the defense soft cap? My build is very similar to yours, but without the fighting pool and with the flight pool and air superiority in its place instead - this is possibly where I could glean out quite a bit more defense.
I'll post a build sometime later when I'm actually ready to carry out the respec. Thanks again. -
Quote:Just curious (again) checking into the Paragon wiki article on this. It states:Close. GMs hit you as if they are your level. If you're higher than the GM's natural level, you hit them as if you're their level. If you're lower than their level, you hit them as if they are 1 level higher than you, which means 90% effectiveness.
# If you are a higher level than the Giant Monster, you will do damage to it as if you were its level.
# If you are a lower level than the Giant Monster, you will do damage to it as if it was one level lower than you.
The wording is slightly different from what you stated (lower instead of higher in the case of your being a lower level than the GM), but perhaps the net effect is the same. If you are doing damage as if it were one level lower than you (as it reads in wiki), does this (still) mean less effective damage than if you are doing damage equal to its level? -
Quote:I'm curious, is there a table of GM's and their respective levels? (I couldn't find it in Paragon wiki.)Because Kraken's natural level is like 14, while Jack's is like 30 or 35.
GMs have levels, just like normal mobs. They have specially coded behavior that makes most effects scale so that anyone attacking them appears to be their level, and vice versa. Behind the scenes, though, Jack has higher stats because he's higher level.
Besides HP, GMs have a variation of the "purple triangles of doom" we see on AVs, and that's what gives them most of their effect resistances. This resistance scales by level - a level 50 GM (or AV) has vastly more resistance to things like toHit debuffs than a level 15 one.
There's discussion in another forum about what archetypes might be able to defeat GM's solo (without inspirations or temporary powers, given base DPS figures) and I think the level of the GM may figure into this. -
Wildcat halfback.
No way she'd be a cheerleader! 'Pom-pom' is the sound she makes on contact. -
Quote:Well, you've been here since early '04, so you should know, and you've probably played an empath defender by now.Any Empath who isn't casting Fortitude regularly is doing it wrong, unless they're too low level to have it. The Empath in question was neither too low level to have Fortitude, nor was she casting it regularly. She was, thus, doing it wrong. And getting complimented anyway.
If there'd been any discussion of why she wasn't casting Fortitude, there might have been a good reason. Some builds are not very Exemplar-compliant. Instead, it seems that expectations are so low that nobody but the OP even noticed she was lacking a critical power. When expectations are so low nobody notices the lack of *FORTITUDE* on an Empathy Defender, and healing is so overvalued that an Empath who isn't casting fortitude is told she's awesome, there's something desperately wrong.
What did you pick at level 12 and 14? Were you so selfless that you chose Fortitude over hasten and superspeed, which would speed up your empath powers and give you some defense and stealth protection? Or over flight which would give you the ability to even make it to the mission door in one piece, being the squishy you are? Or over leadership, which benefits the whole party instead of one or two within the party? Or over the fitness pool to eventually acquire the stamina to constantly cast your primary and secondary powers? Seriously, be honest, what did you really take? If you took Fortitude at 12 or 14 with your (every) empath defender, kudos to you, but don't expect every other empath defender to make the same choice you did. That's right. Choice.
If the defender in question by the OP actually did have Fortitude and didn't use it at all, that's one matter (and still open to question given the incomplete information we've been given). But choosing not to have it in favor of other equally desired or necessary powers is another. -
Quote:A lot, maybe, but certainly not all the time.I've seen empaths who didn't hit a button all night get praise on a team, just because no one on the team died.
The reason Luminara is making this assumption is this stuff happens all of the time in this game.
Earlier tonight we had an empath, a scapper, a tanker and an illusion controller (mine) on a team and the focus was more on mob control and elimination.
We didn't lose a single life, much in thanks to our empath, but also in thanks to team play by all of us. Everyone remarked how well balanced our team was, even at +1 difficulty.
Take one of us out and it would have been more difficult. Add one of us, including our emptath, it went so much easier.
And nobody said, great heals, empath. It was more like hey, y'all, nice teamwork. -

I felt the same, but have since brought a rad/rad corrupter up to 37, a dkbst/pd up to 42 and (most fun) a bots/traps MM up to 45. There's some fun stuff villian side that you can't get heroside.

Quote:If this is true, you're correct. But like a few others here, I'm not quite sure this is true, given the possible power selections an empath can have and choose from at that level. Either way, it's not clear, given the lack of information of exactly what powers the said empath had for the TF.The original poster was upset because a player who deliberately underutilized his/her tools was complimented.
Ranting tends to lose clarity of faculty. -
Quote:In all fairness, it was never made clear which powers the said defender did or did not have during the TF. One cannot pass judgment without complete information, beyond which any comment is hypothetical (if not hypocritical) at best. A point was made that is equally as valid as the rest made here with what we've been given. It's possible to do Positron's TF with no healing at all, so the fact that there weren't any wipes doesn't reflect positively on this Empathy defender unless the entirety of the team was also incompetent and/or totally inexperienced.
This TF was run after I16 was released. The player in question had access to his/her powers up to level 20.
I'm not even going to bother to address the rest of your post. You're attempting to defend a position which no-one was arguing for or against, and doing it with faulty reasoning, no less. You didn't read the thread (no, you did not, your reply made that quite evident), you aren't taking into account the ease of the TF in question, you didn't acknowledge the availability of additional powers due to the new exemplar rules, you're just jumping into the thread to thump your chest and argue against what you perceived to be an "anti-healer" sentiment.
The original poster was upset because a player who deliberately underutilized his/her tools was complimented. Excessively complimented, despite contributing practically nothing to the team. The discussion has been about whether that player deserved the team's appreciation or not, not about whether or not Empathy is good, or whether or not Empathy is easy to play, or whether or not Co* has "healers".
Read the thread before running in and spazzing out. It helps avoid feeling like you need a crowbar to remove your head from your rectal cavity. -
Quote:Just looking, and given your attention to FB, you've got half an end-red in the Ragnorak set for the FB and that's it. Maybe all you need is another half or full end-red in the FB attack to smooth out your end problem, given your preferred attack cycle which includes FB (hey, I'd like that too!). Add a slot for that, take it from anywhere else, your pick.I use Fire Ball only when there are large groups. Usually when I go through my AoE chain (Soul Drain > Shield Charge > Dark Consumption > Fire Ball) usually everything is fairly dead save a boss and a lonely lieutenent.
Yes Fire Ball does use up quite a bit of endurance and it is very noticeable when I spam Fire Ball. I have considered respecing out of Blaze Mastery and have a build for that where I do have Physical Perfection in it with Conserve Power. He'd be quiet a bit more rugged due to having increased resistances, regeneration, and defense debuff resistance but he'd also lose quite a bit of offense in not having Fire Blast and Fire Ball.
So I guess in the end it is a juggling game lol -
Quote:Thanks from a scrapper who uses shield charge as one of her primary attacks.

Quote:Oh, come on! At least the transit line maps should be current (even if others of us know other ways around it)!Only a big deal for newbs or those of us who try to teach newbs "how to fish" rather than just giving them their "How do I get to...?" fish.
Doesn't help to teach them about the City tab on the Map, if it's incorrect.
FWIW, I often use the Ouro portal or in some cases the PocketD portal to get around. The trains can run slow or be far from desired drop points, after all. -
Quote:We haven't heard Dech_Kaison enter into this discussion yet, but a key strategy he uses is to def-cap the whole group so that the bot/henchmen are rarely hit, either in BG mode or otherwise. From what I've read in his posts, he prefers the taunt/BG style of play whereby the bots/henchmen as well as the MM will take little damage while delivering a lot more upon the enemy. If they're taking damage as well as you, that's just going to be too much to handle. Plus, you really can't access all of the HP of your henchmen anyway, because of the way it's divided. You'll start to lose your Tier 1 first, and then Bodyguard pretty much starts to fall apart.
I've tested the non-BG focused-fire stealthed-traps tactic with a currently 45th level MM against 50th/51st/52nd level Cimerorans on the wall and it has proven to be successful, albeit a bit scary at times due to the chancy hit numbers. Sometimes the knockbacks are a blessing in disguise as a few fall over the wall, reducing the fight to a few on few. It's important to take out one Cimeroran at a time with all of their hit points to reduce their attack potential. If my MM gets noticed and then hit, it can get hairy (and scary) as I withdraw while laying traps along the way and putting the bots into def-follow mode to shore us up as a squad. I think this is a pretty good accomplishment - fighting serious foes 6 to 7 levels above you and still managing to hold your own and eventually defeating them. I'm not sure how well this would work with a BG/aggressive style (perhaps someone here can say), but I'm fairly satisfied with how the MM bot/traps combo works with selective 'attack my target' concentrated fire in combination with MM debuff/support actions even outside of BG mode. -
Quote:With an empath at level 50, well-deserved of her hard-earned merits and accolades, having played all sorts of pick up teams on Freedom, I just want to say thanks for this post. I've seen both the best and the worst of the lot, and you put it into proper perspective.Nothing i've said is invalided by the fact she was exemped, which i knew, cause i have read it. Reread MY post more clearly and you'd know.
An no, i relise just what the was doing, and what he was whining about. healers. Your healer hate is blinding you. That what hate does, after all.
Bad player are bad players. (no in refrence to anyone, just in general) The people you are disgused at for rocking the aura, would be even worse and MORE detremantel to a team if they rolled a Storm user. God knows the havock a BAD storm summoner can do, far far outways that of an aura rocker. Yet, the aura rocker is generally lothed and hated, where as an out of control stormer is geneal met with a bit more compasion, i've found.
Empathy is a FINE set. This Defender in this circumstance did FINE. All star profromance? Prolly not, but fine. The venome in this thread is undiserved and, frankly, undefenderlike IMO. Yet, it's a prevelent feature of the defender boards. Odd that the AT most assouted with helping and supporting teammates is the most hostail of all the AT boards. Heh. -
Quote:Ok, I stand corrected on Fort at level 12 instead of 14 (call it a memory lapse on my part at my advanced age). And I do agree that the applause at her play may have been unfounded, particularly if she had such few powers to choose from to begin with at that exempted level (formerly being 47 totally irrelevant). Still... I question the OP with the lack of information on what power sets the player in question actually had. I know that my empath, as a sometimes solo player and leader-centric player (with the leadership and fitness build to support it) did not have all of the empath powers, including fortitude, clear mind and rez immediately when they were available. I read the OP as a self-confessed rant, and still consider it such.If the two of you had bothered to at least skim the other posts by OneWhoBinds (on the first page even), you would have learned that the healor in question was level 47. Also, Fortitude is available at lvl 12, not 14. She used a total of three (3) powers the whole time, so any possible endurance issue could only have been from spamming heal aura when no one needed it. An actual lvl 15 empath could have had Fort 5 slotted with DOs and still had all the powers she did use and a travel power and maneuvers or assault. She also never used her unskippable archery attack against Vaz. Vaz. With their negative lethal resistance, my lowbie axe tanker chops through aboms like a greased scrapper.
Above all, though, you two failed to discern that the specific issue that so incensed the OP was the fact that the h34l0r was praised for doing a great job. She did an adequate job, not great. Great isn't even on the same server as her. I don't know about you, but I am somewhat sympathetic to the idea that a player should not be personally heaped with lavish praise for a mediocre performance that could possibly be out done by literal facerolling. -
Yup, I recall generic 30/35/40's and 50's were white hot last time around, going quickly within hours even above normal stable demand prices. Although generic 50 acc/dam/heal/ends don't have a huge profit margin, they'll move very quickly.

Quote:Thanks for your insight. I've only been a member since early this year, so I only have one DXP to compare to. If that one was tame... wow!I disagree. The last DXP was actually quite tame, in comparison to the one in January and especially in comparison to all the AE excitement. One interesting thing I did note was that on at least some of the items I kept an eye on, speculation prevented prices from rising significantly since people kept releasing hoarded stocks over the duration of the event.
I expect this one to be a relatively quiet affair, too, considering it comes so soon on the heels of the last one. I'm just going to play the market as normal and level up some new characters.
Yeah, I'm playing it pretty cool, too, business as usual, perhaps (maybe certainly) a bit more brisk than usual.
(Edited to add): Considering that a lot of folks are going to be playing sub-50's, anywhere from teens up, this might mean not so much 50's recipes/IO's in demand as the mid/upper levels, although we can expect quite a few to peak at 50 and slot up accordingly, just guessing. I'm hedging my bets both ways. -

I'm kind of curious how y'all are preparing for DXP. The last DXP was kind of wild and wooly market-wise with wide variations in prices. I was fortunate enough then to build some market experience and to realize a major jump up in inf with several characters.
So, what's up for this coming weekend? What are you expecting and how are you preparing? Will the correction in drops change things? Will the 'nao' demand cause a spike in otherwise stable IO prices? Will these balance? Your thoughts?
(FTR, I've already established a few market positions and collections in preparation - time will tell whether I got it right or not with tens and even hundreds of millions in the balance...) -
I'm curious how much you actually use the Blaze Mastery set powers already with the attack chain you've got with DM/SD. If those powers are using a lot of endurance, you might have a look at those. Your toggle powers seem, well ok, some endurance reduction but not a whole lot either.
As DM/SD, I took a different route with Body Mastery, which provides for physical perfection, so endurance is no longer an issue. But it also doesn't provide the Blaze Mastery AOE capability that you've built into your DM/SD scrapper.
Maybe you'll want take a look at each and every power you have and see which is taking up the most endurance in the toggles and attack chain and work on those (easy to check with the power attributes window up). I'm not familiar enough with your full set you have to say which, but it seems clear that you should reconsider a few specific slot IO sets with endurance in mind, as some here have already suggested. Nice build, btw, looks wicked! You've got some AOE built into the basic DM/SD build and I wonder if you might want to de-emphasize the slotting of one of your DM attacks in favor of improving endurance reduction in your epic set fire attacks.
With a single scapper, a DM/SD one at that, I find this an interesting thread in consideration of the balance between AOE capability and endurance reduction to support it. -

Quote:Thanks for bringing this up. I (and perhaps others of us here) had meant to and you took the initiative to actually do it. While it's not a deal-breaking bug, it is one. I've added a post to your bug thread.I'll have to try the buffing them trick and see if that works to bring them back into control.
At the moment I just try to remember to dismiss all before I exit the mission just so this doesn't happen.
Anyways I'm going to post in the bugs forum about this too. I did a search in there and so far haven't found a previous topic talking about this.
edit: Have bug post, feel free to add there with your experiences. Here
