Quote:This is really bizarre. From all you've posted so far, I wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the custom coloring, which for some reason is adding huge amounts of bandwidth use.Actually it's the whole toon!
My other account didn't have that much lag. My other toons don't even have that much lag. Just the one.
I can even turn up the settings now since I've put the newest GFX drivers and play like it's supposed to be played, except with that one toon.
A suggestion to try out. Make another simple costume without any power customization coloring at all and see how that works. If it works, then you may have discovered a problem that needs to be addressed by the devs. You'll probably want to keep your exact settings for the one that is giving you problems. I recall an earlier post by someone that mentioned they had a problem of some sort when using pure white, but not if they changed it to another color - so even the specific color(s) is worth taking note of. -
I tell you what I'd shell out some serious inf for: Market reports.
Maybe for 10k inf per item on the market, you get a condensed yet complete report of one month's activity for that item, including average price, mean price, high/low (also for each day and/or time periods of the day), maybe a histograph, and a few statistical measures like standard deviation and volatility. I could come up with more ideas on what I'd like to see in a market report, but it's the concept I'm suggesting here to begin with. For 100k, you'd get all the reports for a class of items (e.g., defense set recipes, or common salvage, etc.). For 1m, you'd get yet a wider range of reports. For 10m per month, you'd get the full market report (visible only to you and non-reproducable), although for most folks that'd be overkill. -
Quote:Thanks for clarifying this. Yes, I can imagine how difficult it would be and how much play it would take to earn 500m, much less 2b, inf in-game only. I'll take back that (*pfft*) at the change they made and instead give you a (*salute*).Remember, this was from direct game rewards of inf only. I'm not someone who wanted the badge changed, but on my oldest and most-played characters, I hadn't broken 1B earned that way (though I was close), and I have 5-year-old characters I still play a lot.
It was one of those things you definitely only got via very atypical play unless you were willing wait years to obtain it. On that level, I get why they lowered it. -
Quote:Well, it's a tougher responsibility knowing that there are so many items in the base that others have put in there. Much of it, I'm sure, was meant for SG sharing with the basic philosophy of take what you want but put one or more of something else back in of equal or greater value. Other things are probably personal stashes not meant to be used by other SG members, and the organization and locations of the many racks seems to reflect this. Given all what's in there, I'm very reluctant to invite any new members or promote any of the few who have joined fairly recently. I expect some of the more dormant senior SG members to be on this DXP weekend, players who are far more senior to me in terms of game time and experience, some of whom I know fairly well even outside of CoX, and I intend to pass the baton to one of them after discussing it with several of them.I admit to being envious of perwira. The base I inherited didn't come stocked with storage worth millions! Before the (soon aborted) renovations, the old leader removed all storage bins (no idea what he did with the contents, but fortunately, I personally hadn't contributed too much to them, so I don't feel cheated). He did install some new storage bins before splitting, but they were empty. Should I put anything I really care about in any of those bins, I'll be sure to clear it out before I relinquish control.

Quote:First, I suggest you browse through some of the earlier posts in this forum which address the very questions you're asking.A few weeks back I took advantage of the recipe drop problem and decided to spend my time playing/learning the market until the drops got fixed. I started out buying cheap lvl 50 IO set recipes, worked up to lvl 50 IO recipes, and then started crafting and selling the more expensive IO set enhancements. Because I actually wanted to keep track of the market's fluctuations I started keeping notes regarding my buying costs, and then my posting and selling amounts. Everything seemed to make sense until I got to the purples. The recipes for some would be as high or higher than the crafted enhancements, sometimes they'd be too close to make any money on, etc.
My big question is : is it ever worth buying (through WWs) a purple to flip, or should I wait for my toon to become a high enough level to get them on a nomal drop/through merits?
Currently she's lvl 11 and has approximately 300 mil with stuff waiting to sell (haven't been on much this last week).
Thanks for info
I put up one post earlier that fully described a scenario where recipe costs might rationally exceed crafted item costs for the same IO.
In answer to your 'big' question, check out the 'purple' threads in this forum (use the search tool, enter 'purple' for thread titles in this forum, or just go down a few threads). Although I have a lot of market experience otherwise, I haven't ventured into purple recipes. The consensus here seems to be that you can/should earn purple IO recipes through both play and on the market, although some folks emphasize one of these more than the other. Ultimately, purple recipes originate only from drops, and there are a whole host of suggested strategies for obtaining these drops.

Quote:Yup, I've been fortunate in that the original SG leader wisely took the time to look around and asked someone to be the caretaker, even if I was (and still am!) mildly reluctant to do so. You're right, though, it sounds like outright abandonment in the case of the OP, in which case it's pretty much a clean slate for the OP to build on.Oh I understand that RL issues can impact a persons ability to play, however if someone vanishes without a word to anyone I don't believe they deserve special treatment unless there is an unusual circumstance.
The ex-leader in the other thread could have easily taken 5 minutes before his account expired to logon and say something to the SG members. He could have even made it the SG message of the day.
"Hi this is leader. I'm not going to be playing for a while. I don't know for how long. I'm leaving Ironblade in charge til I get back. I hope to be back as soon as possible. Bye."
I'm personally caretaker of two SG's whose leader's asked me to watch over things while they are gone. When and if they get back I'll happily give them back leadership if they want it. I've been holding one SG since before I9, and the second SG since Jan of this year.
I've been in this situation before, even before the time of MMORPG's when RPG's with paper maps and dice ruled. When in doubt, I cut some slack. I have a notion the OP won't hear from the original SG owner again.
Edited to add: Part of what makes me so reluctant to assume leadership of this SG base is that it's loaded with so many items stocked by existing or previous SG members. It was built prior to the base limit nerf (well before I began this game), literally stocked with tens of thousands of items that can't be put back in. A quick calculation of the the purple IO's and Hami-O's and high-end salvage and everything else lying around on those shelves tends into the hundreds of billions if not a full trillion worth of current-day inf. This is a SG with a very high trust level, yet with members who are now currently sometimes in the game - and sometimes (maybe for good, I have no clue) not. -

Quote:Well, in all fairness, sometimes RL intervenes.1. I cut the guy to ribbons for his bashing Customer Support because they wouldn't get involved. The only promise this game makes to inactive accounts is that your characters won't be deleted.
2. I have no sympathy for someone who acts like he is entitled to keep SG leadership after he lets his account lapse for 6 months, and makes no effort to notify their SGmates he's leaving but will return before his sub expires.
3. Yeah I am surprised that some of the "you should be able to be absent indefinitely and still retain ownership of your SG" crowd haven't responded here. Maybe they haven't read this thread yet.
As a junior CoX player, I'm already in the position of maintaining a SG group base, while some of my SG partners have taken a time out for one reason or another. I know some of them personally through our days playing D&D and other roleplaying and strategy games way back in the '70's, and I know our SG leader through quite a few personal chats and some play.
I'm guessing the SG leader in question here is close to my age (that is to say, near if not at AARP age) and if not, at least at the age where family and/or career tends to take a fair amount of precedence over game time.
Yeah, been there, done that... all too often, even if not here (yet) in CoX.
So, really, I don't blame the SG leader. Of course, it would have helped if s/he had designated an SG leader to take over their role.
Take the base and care for it. Call it your own and keep the name for posterity's sake. -
Quote:Hah, hah! Playing a 21st level ill/storm roping in team members, we had a blast rolling through arc missions. One player commented on how crazy it all was, topsy turvy, yet we didn't take a single loss amongst us. Fun stuff.Illusion/Storm is generally considered the crown prince of causing mayhem.

Quote:I can go for the badges, yup. We'd share recognition in that. Yet, with some character power sets being as expensive as they are, I'm really saving for those. This is brilliant. We might want to name them "Ex-millionaire" and so forth.
I would add the "Inf Cap" badge (comes with a costume part!)
All it costs is 2 billion influence.
Optionally, adding a badge ("SG benefactor") for converting ... I don't know, 10 million inf into prestige? Back in issue 8, I could generate 10 million surplus playing the SO game to 50. It's hard to argue that it's an intolerable amount of inf to create.
I don't know how much screaming there would be from the badgers, though. Probably quite a lot. . . although farming enough badguys to get other badges creates large sums of inf ANYWAY. Is there still a badge for farming two billion inf? The wiki says "yes", but I don't know if that was one of the ones they lowered.
From what I read on Paragon wiki (I don't often pay much attention to these things), the "Leader" badge now only goes to a paltry 500m, nerfed from 2b. Really, now? *pfft*

Quote:Yeah. It could be that the former SG leader moved on to other things, yet to return. Consider this an opportunity. You're now SG leader and ready to build the base back to its former capability and ready to recruit. I think the hardest challenge is recruitment, not the base itself.I would say at least wait until this weekend is over to see if they come back. worse case maybe their computer crashed or was broken or they lost their job and havent been able to get on to play??? As a sg leader if i was gone for a set amount of time i would feel ok with my co leaders and such to get the base back into running order as long as they left me in the sg in case i come back since i created it. I would try to get ahold of this person or anybody that may know this person to see if you can talk to them in any fashion.
I would feel uneasy as well if i was in your shoes and inherited a sg without knowing if the leader was coming back or not. Hope it turns out well -
Quote:Well, there are some caveats (or shall we say, caviar! *cheers with vodka*) to that. There are some great binding guides and posts around on how to set up binds and text file loads, and as one with a Khelidan, I'm thankful.Whew. I'm glad I decided to go to eat before complaining about that

Quote:I'm going to have to agree with this comment, being in a large Virtue SG (actually a combination of 3 SG's) consisting of older (even AARP eligible!) players. In addition to playing with SG team mates, I also pick up teams on Virtue and by and large, the play and chat is fairly mature. None of us in my SG roleplay (not seriously anyway), although many of us have played role-playing games dating clear back to the original Gygax D&D in the mid'70's.As a 5-year Virtuean, I do not understand the description of 'hellhole of teenagers'. From everything I have heard, that sounds more like Freedom. Virtue has a very large and stable population. Many great gamers run there because it is the 'official Roleplay server'. I will say, however, that sometimes a few in the RP crowd gets a little touchy with non-RPrs, and there is the potential for stumbling on some erotic roleplay. but oh well. THe people overall are great and there is plenty of teaming.
Relative to Virtue, Freedom seems to be a pretty much anything-goes type server. My first 50th level character, a defender empath, has had quite an interesting career on Freedom, seeing just about all there is to experience on both ends of the spectrum. Let's just say she truly earned her Hero of the City badge, given the nature of all of the pick-up teams she played on.
Go to Atlas or Talos WW / Cap BM on these two servers and you'll see the difference. -

Although I'm active on the market with most of my characters, I have one character who I log into about once a week just to work the market rack. Over a few months, he has built up more than 1b inf on slow movers.
My suggestion is to look for something like valuable (in demand), but slow moving procs that are available across multiple levels, but move slowly, like 1 or 2 a week at each level. I won't give away the proc I'm working, but the bottom level one and the top level one move too quickly and the prices are higher. For the mid-range 'odd' levels, there are lot fewer bids simply because they don't move fast enough for most marketers. Put up spread bids across those intermediate levels, maybe 8-10 spread low bids of 3-5 quantity each. Pick up about 10 of each salvage you need and keep it on hand. Any other salvage, store in base or sell off.
Once a week, log in. You'll see maybe 10 or a dozen filled bids sporadically across the levels. First, top off those bids back up to 3-5 quantity as before. Craft the recipes you got and pick up another round of salvage before putting the crafted proc IO's on the market. Price the crafted items below what is going at the faster moving lowest-level and highest-level procs, where prices are typically higher because nao demand. Players who know that level doesnt make a difference in terms of performance (only when exemplaring) will search for these levels and buy them instead of the lowest/top ones if it's cheaper for them. Watch this closely for a few weeks and make sure your bid price and selling price balance where you get about as many recipes in as crafted items out. Then you're home free - once a week, 5-10 minutes and you're done. -
If you're able to send him/her an e-mail, I'd try that first, basically asking him/her what you asked us here. If you get a welcome response, like go ahead and do what you think needs to be done, then fine. If you get no response or the response isn't very welcome, you might want to look at quitting and joining a new SG. I would be hesitant to put a lot of effort into something that someone might come back and claim and completely redo all over again.

Quote:Ok, thanks for that. I did a search for some other threads that discussed this and found a few that you had also contributed to, that give more detail:As far as I know, you are correct about the tohit check. Split purpose IOs are the way to go to increase accuracy. I should think Acc/End IOs would be very popular for this power. Using Procs is a good way to go, too; damage with the hold make Choking Cloud formidable. Needless to say, the more slots you can spare for choking cloud, the more you will appreciate its value.

Quote:*wow whistle*According to mids it has 17% chance. It isn't triggered by timer but by attacks your bot doing.
Ok, looked it up again in Paragon wiki... 16.6% chance for Pet Build up (15% ToHit 100% Dam) for 10 seconds.
Considering the 10 second duration of the BU, it sounds like there's a very good chance it would be up quite a bit if it is triggered by a bot attack, often after just three or four attacks based on the roughly 1/6 probability. It sounds like it might be better slotted with the assault bot instead of the protbot if it affects only the bot category it is slotted in (another thing I'm not clear on), or even the dronebots given the steady number of attacks they trigger.
Where (in which bot set) do most players slot this?
(Edited to add, my bots/traps MM is 45th level, so I hadn't taken the opportunity to take a serious look at this, but it looks like a must-do at 50th level.) -
How often, then, does the Soulbound Allegiance Chance for Build Up, trigger? It's not clear from the description of the IO. If for example you put it in protector bot, would it always trigger every 10 seconds while either protbot is still active? (I sure hope it doesn't trigger only when the power, i.e., the summoning part of it, is used.)

In addition to the two mentioned above, there are Ghost Widow's Embrace Chance for Psionic Damage (20-50) and Neuronic Shutdown Chance for Psionic DoT (10-30). There's also (probably priced way outside your budget) the purple Unbreakable Constraint Chance for Smashing Damage.
I found I had the most trouble with endurance, as CC is a huge endurance hog, and I slotted to reduce it first before putting in any procs. The first three slots I used Lockdown Acc/End/Rech/Hold & End/Rech/Hold with Essence of Curare End/Hold frankenslotted. This really boosts the Hold duration and cuts the endurance down a lot, while giving a bit of recharge bonus in case you need to drop it for a while to recover endurance and bring it back up for the next fight. I'll might put the LD +2 mag hold followed by the BG -rech next.
(Edited to add: There is no accuracy component in CC, so you'll want to avoid/minimize any IO's with an accuracy component.) -
Quote:Yeah, you're right. I was thinking of Stealth (also available prior to level 14 at level 6) which I omitted when I made that comment about improved defense.
Neither Hasten nor Super Speed buff defense...
For the record, I do not hate healers. They just make me, and the baby Jesus, cry. (Like the rad/ defender I teamed with recently, who, in the mid teens, had only Radiant Aura and Accelerate Metabolism from her primary, and Aid Other.)
I think we do all agree on one thing. We cringe when we see poor play - by any archetype (including an empath defender). I'm sure some of us were guilty of poor play, too, when we first learned the game and made mistakes in trial and error and we didn't know what we know now. Heck, 9 months into this game, I still have a bad day now and then even as I try to stay on top my game and play my best just so I don't let my teammates down.
I doubt this defender empath was intentionally trying to play poorly (although maybe lazily), so she might well benefit from guidance from players more experienced than her, even during a mission. If I ever do give a player a helpful suggestion that could possibly come across as criticism, I'll send them a friendly /tell rather than on the open team channel or in an open forum.
