  1. sound like it an irq conflict. that the video card and the mouse or another pci device is trying to use the same irq. i wouldwith the old card boot into the bios and first see if you can turn off onboard video. in the bios there should be a setting for irq on most mb bios there set to auto to let the os set the devices up. some vendors may have them set irq port 1 to 9/ port 2 to 10 port or slot 3 to 11. this can cuase issus with plug and play os. if your mb does not have those settings then try and free up and irq..if you dont use the com ports or printer ports you can turn then off fre up irg 3/4/7. on thing with older system you may need to update the mb drivers. if the pci bridge drivers are old or out of date they can cause an issuse. just run the intel chipset update. with nvidia run a nvidia drive cleaner in safe mode after you downloaded the newest drivers. you can install the newerst drivers or ones that are newer then on the pc now then run nvidia update when the new card is working.
  2. it may be two simple things that are causing the game crashes. your system with two gig of ram and what open in the back ground may be causing os and the game to crash do to lack of ram. first step is to close things that are not needed like itunes and orther stuff on the task bar and start up. also running defrag and cc cleaner to clean up some drive space will help. if the game still crashing and your just running the game and anti virus i would look into swapping out the ram. the max ram is 4 gigs on that system ie 2 sticks of 2 gig ram per cruisal memory advisor. the other isue that can be causing issues is one of the memory sticks could have a failing bit or two. there a program called memtest that you put on a cd and boot from it and run it overnight. if there a problem with one of the mem stick it show up in a report. also go to ati web age and download the newest drivers. some of ati drivers and coh did not like each other.
  3. to the op new egg and other online stores sell usb to ide and usb to sata cables for data recovery. the cables have data and power for the drive on one end and plug into a usb 2.0 port. you wont have to open the case. unlesss you need to steal power plug. if the old drive not making a clicking sound but is spinning up aand then down it going to be the logic board or spindel. most drive with that type of failure will have few boots left into them before they hard fail.
  4. what your seeing is the mb or ps turning itself off because it see a dead short in the system. check that there no screws shorting the under side of the mb (ie dropped screw) or the i/o shield short or one of the stand off is missing and the mb is hitting the mb tray.also check that your reset/power and hd led wires are on the right header. you may have the hd header on the reset pins and the mb is stuck in reset mode. you can check your ps to see if it fine by google power supply green wire. with a small wire or paper clip you can make any power supply turn on without being connected to a mb. also on your build check that you pluged in the atx power plug it a small 4 pin plug and if your using a video card that all the power plugs are connected.
  5. some tips..pick up a computer case screw kit. it good to have few extra standoff and other screws. when you put the mb onto the mb tray dont screw the first two or three standoff as tight as you can.your going to have to line up the mb with the rear case shield and stand offs. also pick up a bag of zip ties they help keep the wire clutter down. the hardest part going to be putting on the case led/hd/power and reset cables there going to be on a tight header on the edge of the mb. on some cases the cable (+)(-) are not put on the cable connector some are and are a plus. with airflow have the front fan blowing in and the rear out or front in and top out. most new mb use efi bios that gui bases and runs in windows. most vendors now allow up to flash the bios in windows. a rule with flashing bios is back up the old one to a usb/floppy disk. if the flash fails most new mb have a clear cmos/recoverable flash all you need is the old one. if you have a local micro center they have better cpu prices on the retail intel cpu then new egg.
  6. to the op if i read your computer spec right you only have 2g of ram in your pc?? if it true then you dont have then main ram to run xp and the game..what your seeing is the cpu bottlenecking in the game. newer video cards to help in game play to reach that 30-60 fps that gamers like. that at 1200 or more dpi. at 1024 by 780 that you posted even a 8800 nvida card would run coh fine. if it not the lack of ram i would check your power supply and see if your older pc has a power supply that can handle the new video card. doing a little background it seams your pc is eight years old by it model number and 2g is the max memory for it. if it true that this pc is 4 years or more and has agp video card you old hardware is the issue and not the drivers.
  7. if the ram is braded by kingston or crusal i would call them up and see if they let you rma back for a swap. if not if you used a credit card or a bank card call them up and file a charge back. most local computers stores if the boxes are still sealed they should just swap them out. most little vendors buy a box of ram for kingston or 3 party source and drop them into little pink anti static bags.
  8. if your looking for a build that a balance of both power and money then look to and i-5 cpu and h67 mb. for raw cpu power the i-5 desktop cpu are not much slower then the i-7 with coh and other online games there not cpu or video card hard on a system. (my old rig that in the middle of being replaced is a 775 system with 4 gig of ram and nvida 250 cpu. for your build the nvidia 550-560ti will be pleanty fast and right now some of the 550 with rebate are hitting the 99.00 price point.
  9. first of on the programing side it not to hard to fix the issue the op had. all they need to go is add a gift button on the trade window if a user want to gift i/o or cash. if the trade button is clicked the game should know there going to be money ot an iteam traded.if a party walks away in the middle of the trade then the money or io should not leave the sellers or buyers hands. if they mske s new trsding toon or an e-trader you should have to reg your chat hanndel and pay some inf to register as a big inf trader. these large trsders should have a feedback system of just stars no words that would be a simple color code..ie red for bad trader...gold or another color for top trader an empty star for new trader.
  10. i would wait and hold off till april 15 or so if your on a budget. nvidia new gpu are going to be coming out at the same time Intel launches ivy bridge. with the launch of the new cpu from intel will be there 6xx line of chipset for the micro and mid priced gamer. toms hardware right now on the new ati cards are saying ati has done what ati has set out to do make a faster video card then nvidia and have it use less power. some of the leaked specks on keplar say it going to be a 300w card and need a six and a eight pin header. not to power friendly if you just using two cards for sli. also one word of caution not all intel or 3 party sata controlers are sata 6gb controlers. read up on the chipset and any bugs out there. you dont want that new ssd to not run at it max speed or end up having issues with it and the controler..ie not see at ever power up or other bugs.
  11. if you think it your ram you can download memtest for free and run it overnight. if you know a little bit about comps or done upgrades you have more then 2g of ram you can pull out 1/2 and see if the error stops or gets worse. ie pull the bad stick of ram out of the system and see if it runs better.
also check to see if your running anything overclocked ie cpu/ram/video card. you shorten the life of products sometimes when you stress them over there rated speed funny things happen. for your hd run one of the vendors fitness test program to check it. one the last things to check with the pc off and power plug puleld is that the ram and cards and cables are all seated. with age or moving pc you can pop cards and cables.
  12. we could use it for superbowl sunday...cook quite a fest on one of them
  13. no i did not photoshop it just screen shot of it tonight when playing dfb.
    anyone got any mashmellos??
