They are great primaries still. Good AoEs and heavy hitting powers. Just because they aren't discussed as often as other primaries doesn't mean they are worthless. Instead of doing a scan, try a search and you can find all kinds of useful posts.

Yeah - in terms of actual synergy, two Shield Tankers with Phalanx and Grant Cover might be your best bet. That, and Shields is fun to play.
I'd make two identical tankers and call one -
I Am Spartacus
and the other
l Am Spartacus
(big I, small L.)

This is greatI agree on maximizing offensive output in place of raw survivability. If it isn't shield/ and shield/ maybe roll one as a fire/ and see what survives your onslaught.

I didnt think /SR could be defense debuffed much. At least, on scrappers, I think by the time you are level 50, you have 94% defense debuff resistance. So anything that floats at 47.4% or so defense is still at 45% after you get as debuffed as you can be.
Though maybe I didnt understand it correctly.
Anyway, don't Brutes get strong defense debuff resist in /SR also?

Sorry, I didn't mean to give the impression that SR was not strong in resisting debuffs, because it is quite untrue. As far as I know, SR is pretty much king of resisting such debuffs, but they still slip though on occasion. On my SR, the defense debuff resistance is at 95% and that appears to be the cap as the number is blue. If I am facing Cimerorans, I watch my defense, and it barely moves downward as they do their attacks which cut down on defense.
Quickness also adds 40% recharge debuff resistance, so that is quite handy too.
In building a good SR though, don't forget to add some resistance in somewhere. Nothing is worse than being a one trick pony and having no resists to back you outside of the health-scaling one. -
I have a /SR brute that is a real hoot to play. She is sitting at 49/46/49 defense. As far as I understand, SR for brutes varies little from the version in scrappers aside from the taunt in evasion, and the soft cap is still considered to be 45%. I rarely see other /SRs and I like that. I am about to respec her now, I did pick up a couple of powers I just don't need now. If you cap your defense, you will find that elude is not needed.
edit*
Just finished my respec. I scrapped the med pool and grabbed the fighting pool instead. I am now at 54.21% ranged 48.58% melee and 51.39% AoE. Sure, I can be debuffed, but at least I have a bit of resistance to fall back on. My build is incomplete. I still want to throw some stuff into health and see where it takes me. -

dual smashing weapons? How about tonfas?

Tonfas simply rock. I would love a dual tonfa brute inspired by Talim. Hawt! -
I don't think playing a blaster is any more difficult than playing any other AT. Care to clarify what difficulty is worrying you? If it is the death thing that has you concerned, that may be a result of poor tactics and play style more than anything else. Every AT can be killed, and every AT can live so long as the appropriate tactics are applied. I recall a certain granite armor tank noob on a recent ITF that was regularly gutted in a matter of seconds, and blasters that lived through the whole TF unscathed.
If you are looking for durability and damage, maybe look at
playing a scrapper. I think a poor player is just a poor player, no matter what AT they are playing. Don't be swayed away from blaster's because of some people touting they are difficult.
If anything, playing a defender is more difficult. Most of the primaries make you more of a buff/debuff specialist than anything. Your secondary matters, but you will likely spend more time in your primary power set than blasting. If you play a blaster, the only bacon you generally have to be worried about is your own.
As far as the concept you outlined, I think he would be a better blaster than defender. There doesn't seem to be any kind of buff/debuff component to the him at this point.
As Storm_Devil said, the IO system can be used to plug holes in all ATs, so don't worry about KB and such.
Bottom line- a poorly played alt will faceplant regardless of AT/powersets. -
You should really think outside of your little box; Rogue Isles are different from Paragon City and you may just like it. I am super-excited about the whole idea of Going Rogue. With that said, I think most people (like this poster) will just take the best thing about villains (villain ATs) and just roll them as heroes instead. I would venture to say there will be far more classic villain ATs rolled as heroes than classic hero ATs rolled as villains when this new expansion comes around.
Though the prospect of out of the box role changing is entertaining, I would sort of like to see you earn the right to cross over. Sort of like the way a VEAT chooses a path at 24. But on the other hand- people are able to powerlevel their way through those first 23 hours in no time these days, so the journey to that rite of passage wouldn't mean much anyway.

Where have I been?!? Hook, line, and sink. This looks to be very promising and deliciously tempting. I simply can't wait.

So if your Wings+Bolero costume is in slot two, it would be best to just avoid visiting the tailor while you are wearing that costume just to be safe.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Uno dumb question por favor.
Will the simple act of going to the tailor strip this? Or do you have to actively edit the costume in question?
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't quote me on this, but from my understanding, you will be fine if you don't visit the tailor while wearing the costume you designed with Wings+Bolero. If you visit the tailor wearing any of your other looks you should be fine. I am not certain though, and I haven't been to the tailor on an alt with wings and bolero lately. If anyone knows differently, please post! -
I bought the box and I love it. The options and fortune telling power is great. I ended up with another month of play too. Sweet deal.

I am picking this up, but just wondering how silly I will feel seeing as 95% of my characters are mutation origin and I can only think of one that is Magic based. Oh well, I will just enjoy the new costume options.

I don't PVP much, in fact I have only done it a few times. What I did gather quickly, however, is that melee is not the strongest and most viable option if you are looking to take PVP by storm. This is just a generality, but I found that I (as a brute) was not able to land many hits on a blaster buzzing around, and I was using taunt liberally.
To answer another of your questions, the general consensus is that brutes don't fare as well in PVP due to their peaky dmg buff of Fury. There normally won't be tons of enemies tossing attacks at you to generate fury, and I believe you might have a hard time getting close to most pvpers to be able to generate a ton of fury. Most tend to roll scrappers or stalkers for PVP. Remember, with 0 fury, a brute will do less base damage than a tanker. -
Go back to the MM Forums with your zombie summoning...

This really is the worst issue ever! Not because of the content, but just because I can't connect my updater to do anything. GREAT!

Grr... just went to the Gamezone website, and it hasn't updated yet. What happened to ths multiple prolonged kick in the pants for the devs? I could rally behind that. Stop stringing us along!!! I feel like a junkie.
