  1. I'm finding Dual Blades far more fun than Claws, but give up ever seeing the fun and variety of Pool Powers. Willpower and DB both need a huge number of powers taken, and you'll end up with Fitness anyway because you'll be joyfully munching end non-stop. Oh you can choose not to, but you will anyway because DB is the ultimate scrapperlock heaven. You start getting all twitchy.

    Permarage?

You're a tank anyway. The crash is an opportunity to stand there laughing raucously at the pathetic attempts of the enemy to hurt you. Then you become enraged and smash them for their pitiful audacity!

    Indeed!
Though I'm not quite sure what this thread is?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's rampant blaster love, and we're all to run around within it's warm cosiness glomping our blasters and regaling each other with our love of elemental death and destruction. <3
  4. I don't generally like teaming. I play scrappers and tanks as a preference, people expect me to do stuff. Stuff like running face first into twenty minions, two bosses and a handful of lieutenants, every two minutes, without stopping, with ease. Or maintaining aggro control. I have to start caring about the ponce with a name composed entirely of capitals and random apostrophes. I can't do it, on account of the whole 'not a very nice person' thing.

Enter the blaster. Your responsibility is to wait for a few seconds after the fight has begun for all the other archetypes to do whatever task it is they're meant to do, and then kill everything that moves. A flow chart of three thought processes; choose a target. Is it moving? Am I allowed to shoot at it? Kill it. Existence as a teaming blaster appears to consist of trying to slot for more pain. There's no hold duration nonsense, you don't have to argue about your ability to tank without taunt, you don't have to argue the other way about your ability to tank as a scrapper, healing is for people playing backwards and clicking on the wrong target.

Most of all, you stop caring about debt. Not because you're resigned to your fate. It's because when you're doing it right, you'll barbeque so many bad guys so damn fast you won't even notice that the debt had even happened.

Don't like teams? Be a blaster. If I can do it, anyone can.

(this thread brought to you by the maniacal laughter of Ardent Gold, a Fire blaster with remarkably little concern for anything except the damage and recharge time of Fireball)

How do you more accurately 'aim' a psychic attack? Think harder?
  6. The joy of Archery/Devices to me is that I can ditch the accuracy enhancements and put in range ones instead. The targeting drone is effective enough as it is even without the massive natural accuracy of the archery set itself.

Staying the heck away gets that little bit easier.
  7. I take Stamina later on with Willpower, so I can comfortably cram in even more toggles! Assault, Tough, Weave, Focused Accuracy.....it all adds up when you're a complete loon.
  8. Unfortunately, being a bad Tanker with Scrapperlock is the most fun you can have. Unfortunate because it's not something that should be encouraged.

Back when Lord Khorak actually had Taunt (a resolved identity crisis, he's a solo scranker), I would be quite happily running heedless into rooms while the other seven members of the team are resting and buffing. The night ended with me calling a Winter Lord a 'big nancy' and trying to beat it to death single handed.

It's bad to pick a Tank secondary that can actually do some damage. It just makes you want to go and hit stuff.
  9. I take it instead of any of the Fighting pool. For the vast majority of scenarios Tough and/or Weave are overkill in terms of Willpower survivability for me, so I save a slot or two and just get Strength of Will for when things look a bit hairy.

I don't think of it as a panic button, it's not that kind of power. I size up a situation and decide I'm going to use Strength of Will before charging in.
  10. Battle Axe is slower than a sleeping slug and eats endurance so fast you'll forget the bar is blue even without hasten. You can only speed it up so far since its the animation times that truly slow it down. As a result Fury buildup would be difficult and heavily reliant on getting yourself beaten up, which with Fire means even more blue expenditure on the click heal.

If you manage to get a full Fury bar with Battle Axe you will simply redefine the concept of pain, but getting there is going to need some effort. Entirely because of the endurance expenditure I'd only recommend a seriously blue friendly secondary, and because you'll have to rely on getting punched repeatedly in the face I'd narrow the option further down to Willpower. Quick Recovery and a set based on low downtime health regeneration will be the best help for building and maintaining Fury with Battle Axe.

Battle Axe/Fire is a nightmare I don't want to think of for a Brute. Tanks can take things a bit easier, but the Brute archetype really needs you to be going nuts to the wall to get anything out of it (and not be a hard to kill but harmless scrapper), so I wouldn't consider BA/Fire to be an ideal combination. Oh there'll be people who'll play it and swear by it like usual, but it doesn't change that you'd have to work real hard to make it a less than masochistic choice. Some people like that, I prefer to kick a guy when he's down and already dead though.
  11. How the heck does Dual Blades not fit Brutes? Hacking enemies to pieces in a non-stop flurry of crimson carnage isn't brutal enough?
  12. They could give every single merc a leadership aura that gives a small bonus to damage and accuracy. Working together as a unit they're highly effective, with a large bonus to their general hurtiness. As they die and get thinned out they become less effective. Soldiers are meant to work as a team after all.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Or people complaining about just how much damage brutes with fury up can do?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only time I played PvP was on the test server, and a Blaster I was using caught a full fury, raged up Brute Knockout Blow to the face. I wasn't complaining so much as gaping in awe at the screen. If the game were more realistic my toon would have been nothing but a bloody spray of flesh and bone chunks.

[/ QUOTE ]Once you hit 32 and get your second upgrade for your pets then you find things very easy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

By the time you've gotten to 32 though, the Brute is already at level 50 and spending his days punching Statesman in the face.
  15. I'd say Brutes all the way. Teaming evens things out for everybody but solo, the Brute isn't even being played properly if you're not smashing your way really fast through missions in a frenzy of ultraviolence.

I find MM's to be safe, but slow. The constant setup is arduous, and the damage acceptable but by no means swift until 26 and your most powerful minion. Except Thugs.
  16. I prefer Willpower because it's the lazy mans set!
Regen has all those pesky clicks; Dull Pain, Reconstruction, Instant Healing....phooey. Too much effort.

    change to rage

Why not just make Rage a toggle? Would certainly make it unique. Slap some -5% def debuff on it or something.

I would have accepted it if you said Doom I/II or Quake I was the dawn of online gaming (well shooter wise)

Online gaming was an irrelevant non-entity until CS blew it open to everyone with a mousepad.
  21. There is only a single consideration as to why I always choose Broadsword over Katana. Parry. The broadsword animation looks absolutely awesome. On Katana Divine Avalanche (or whatever) looks utterly, utterly, utterly terrible.

It's a power you spam! I do not want to be making some idiotic pose followed by a love tap to the head, I want the 'stitch that lot up!' animation that comes with Parry.
  22. I have had exactly one PvP match, and managed to mash my opponent in the last five seconds for a single kill, after twenty minutes of him Superspeeding around and trying to hide because he'd made a ranked match without checking that Lord Khorak is in fact a tank, not a scrapper like him, and was functionally immune to his attacks. I considered managing to carve out that one kill a worthwhile punishment for boring the hell out of me.

I see no reason to give up my one hundred percent victory rate! I am the king of PvP! Rarrrrrrgh!
Well ok, I'll entertain the idea of brawling with Golden Girl.
  23. Ah, such a beautiful reminder why I never PvP after three years of Counterstriking at the Dawn Of Online Gaming.

    I love nostalgia.
