Broadsword vs Katana

Hi folks.

Having played about 35 levels of Katana/Dark, I’m considering giving Broadsword/Regen a go (especially with the nice new weapon options). However, from a quick glance at the powers and from observing other BS users while in teams, it seems that the powers and animations are quite similar.

Are there any significant differences between Broadsword and Katana? Or am I just trading quick recharge and lower end use for a bit more spike damage?

Thanks.

Pretty much.

(Broadsword is functionally identical other than higher Recharge Time, Endurance Cost and Damage)

iirc, Katana has an inherent (if almost negligible) bonus to accuracy. That could be completely false, sadly...

That's true. Broadsword has the same though.

Hey, don't you all see the big difference between broadsword and katana? The katana is wielded in the left hand!

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

MA numbers are messed up. First 2 rows should read:
TK 52.6 104.6 5 4.37 3 1.07
SK 82.6 164.4 5 7 6 1.0

i think it all comes down to what you prefer, more damage higher recharge or the opposite.

aye, thats the biggest difference. The other one is imo katana has a bit more "elegance" to it. With what i mean if you chain attacks it seems a bit more fluid compared to BS' "hey you.." *THWACK*

but yea, the biggest diff is sustained damage vs burst damage. Even though with proper slotting at the higher lvls you can get some nice high damage chains in BS with little downtime between attacks.

The animations in BS are quite good, the way the toon moves really does make it look like they are chucking around a big fat 5ft lump of steel. Rather than the kat which looks a bit more dainty.

BS looks good. That's what would make me play one. Yes I am shallow.

Katana looks poor at best, it ranks absolute last in scrapper visuals to me, even below the ballerinas

Well after playing my first toon to 50, broadsword scrapper i can say how it makes me feel. Rooted tension building animation then BANG release. Its fun
Also even with all the damage being S/L I have been having fun in PvP as the huge dam output seems to make up for it being so resisted.

But you really have to have a compatible mindset to deal with the very slow attacks.

yeah, broadsword IS quite powerful in PvP cause of the sheer force it brings. Even resisted it still deals a fair amount of damage, if unresisted.. well.. it HURTS (easily doing bout 900 dmg to a squishy in WB )

Only fault BS have is that the long animations sometimes prevents you from popping that lifesaving DP or Green. Can't count the times when I've gone down mashing a heal while waiting for my toon to stop waving his sword around.

the prob with the animations i found most annoyin on my bs/reg is that even after youre done swinging you still got 0.2/0.3 secs of being unable to do something. Fooled me plenty of times thinking i was in time with activating an insp or heal. It takes some gettin used to

There is only a single consideration as to why I always choose Broadsword over Katana. Parry. The broadsword animation looks absolutely awesome. On Katana Divine Avalanche (or whatever) looks utterly, utterly, utterly terrible.

It's a power you spam! I do not want to be making some idiotic pose followed by a love tap to the head, I want the 'stitch that lot up!' animation that comes with Parry.
