(No, I'm not going anywhere.)
First, I want to thank Madame Pistacio and Masque first, along with too many others to account for, for making CoX very fun for the past few weeks. You guys are both great leaders, and do a great job making the game fun for us noobish oldsters. I don't want to start naming others, mostly because I'd just leave out other people, and I'm also very lazy and an inconsiderate jerkhacker.
I've been having tons of fun the past cpl of days, even with only having run the 2 new trials a total of 6 times. I LOVELOVELOVE the urgency, the toughness, the brevity, and (gasp) the chaos (and that's totally wierd for me).
Dynamic, on-your-toes-or-you-could-(maybe)fail content is something the game has been lacking for some time. I recently ran a Citadel TF, and I was almost ready to poke out my eyeballs one at a time with a dull, rusty, dung-encrusted, lead butter knife at the end so I would NEVER EVER see a stupid Brown Cave again.
[Also, on a related note, I hope once we get a buncha these done and slot up some decent Inc enhancers we do a good set of Accolade runs and get accoladed up on some more toons - the incarnate slots might help make quick work of some of the Kill All TF mishes that take a chunka time. My tank (et al), needs some more HP for the upcoming carnage!]
Now, to get rid of all this disgusting sticky sweet feeling-goo I got all over you people reading this with a little Lin-vinegar (omg that doesn't really sound right at all...),
make me some Threads and more moneh!! -
My mistake, I thought it was part of this issue.
To your point B., I'm pretty sure Buttcapes weren't really an intrinsic part of the issue in which they were released either...
(Oh, I thought you meant trenchcoats. If you were talking trenchcoats, my statements stand with that in mind; if it's about 'buttcapes', as Rosanna RosannaDanna would say, neeevermiiiind.)
Also, I'm not sure, but I believe SexyJay is in charge of Art, which contains costumes as a subset, right? Based on his general history of interaction, I'll guess that rather than lazing around doing Nothing, he's probably been working his 'buttcape' off getting ready for this issue. I'll gladly take whatever he offers us in Costumes, whenever he and his team are able to do so.
And BTW, based on the speed with which we can now reach level 20, I would say hat TFs designed for L20-40 characters are most certainly low to mid level content. Anyone who thinks that L30 is high level content, well, I disagree with them.
It bugs me that so many people don't like what this issue has to offer, but I'll continue to enjoy it myself, and hope that people are able to find something to like in it as well. -

Primary is neutralized...
Mmmkay... may I ask, what is your secondary? Buffs? Debuffs? Offense? Mez? Can you make yourself valuable to the team by using your secondary in a support role?? -
Though I understand the reason for adding another system of salvage for the next trials as stated above, I for one will /sign this as I do hope there is less salvage to keep track of.
Also, as a sugg, perhaps they can consolidate the salvage down after an introductory period, if the point is to limit the fast influx of people getting the new shinies too quickly upon release. -

Quote:Hmm. 2 Points. When's the last time we had an issue that didn't include something for the Character Creator? Even if it's minor like the Buttcapes or requires unlocking like the craftable costume pieces or completing the ITF, we've been given something new. Not this time.
1. I just remembered, didn't the Vanguard pieces get unlocked? Would you count that as something minor for the character creator? I sure would.
2. "...minor like the Buttcapes"
This statement makes me believe that you are woefully uninformed about how the buttcapes was a VERY complicated costume piece to put together and make work in the costume creator. -
Sorry, can't find it anywhere - what is the duration of the Interface effects?

Well, imagine a group of 40 characters, all at Tier 4 level Incarnate slotting in 5 slots, attacking what we currently know as The Hamidon Raid. Even without the Incarnate Level Shifts, how sad do you think the Hami will be after that group just wipes the ground with his face?? Don't you think that the buff and debuffs in those powers make most characters deal out damage and survive damage that only AVs were previously able to do?
A lot of these things you list DO give you AV-equivalent powers (debuff procs = extra damage/defense/etc., large AOE buffs = extra defense/damage/healing/etc., new pets = extra damage/buffs/etc.).
For example, a team of 8 on the STF going into the 4th mission:
Without Incarnate - careful planning in taking out GW and the other 3 LR lackeys, keep the tank loaded with CM, then attacking LR, gotta take out the towers one at a time, keep LR occupied...
With 5x VR Incarnate - I think it might be akin to a lazy stroll in the park, drop a judgement here, spam a Destiny there, waltz into the 4 sublieuts (GW et al) like nothing happened, activate the Clarion and drop 8 Jugements on them simul - ASH. 2 people on each tower with pets, with the tank, or maybe a few more pets, keeping LR busy, done in 5 minutes.
I could be wrong, but it will be a slightly different paradigm, I think. -
Quote:To unlock one slot, on one character, I don't think you'd need more than 6 runs on one trial. I know I ran lambda 2x on one character last night and had around 40%.Best case scenario is 8 times and that is only the tip of the iceberg.
Bill, I do understand that for people with dozens of alts, it will take quite a while to unlock and fill the slots. [I have 12 L50 characters myself, and I intend to slot (nearly) all of them up... eventually.] Only thing I can think of is, as much as Devs want to encourage alting, providing characters with more and more power too easily might make the game seem trivially easy at times, and devalue the achievement of the upper tiers of performance. Perhaps they are moving towards people having one or 2 truly exceptional characters, and a host of others who could achieve that level of exceptionalism someday in the further future. You have to admit the powers are quite exceptional, and I'd say game changing in many ways.
But the argument that it should be easier because people have lots of characters.. I think there's a logical flaw in there somewhere, but I'm apparently running into a logic-block. One complaint I DO have is the crazy complicated Incarnate Salvage model - I wish they would simplify that. And I wouldn't complain if they made it, say, 30% easier to get the upper levels of the Incarnate abilities... but I think the rewards are worth the effort, from what I can see now.
I'll be interested to see how fast people achieve the higher ranks in the different slots, and how that affects the trials we can do now. -
Um, "a quick burst of neigh invulnerability?"
Sorry to be the grammar police, but unless you're a horse, that should probably be nigh-invulnerability. -
Great attitude, and I'm liking it too. Also, good story - it's concise and fully formed at the same time.

Quote:Yeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss.Except the Romans have base level accuracy and don't spam AoEs like they are going outta fashion, meaning that, while Rommy might get heal buffs off pets, they are still alive to be throwing damage right back in his face at all times.
Romans also don't come +4 as standard, with whole mobs being made of rediculously powerful, AoE spamming Bosses that ca- Ok, no, not true there. Praefects CAN one/two shot me still. But they also obey normal acc laws, making it a lot less likely, whereas Commanders just run up and BAM. Down.
And I see no ones bothered to explain why the Artillery is necessary? Thats my main gripe.
And where before people thought it was challenging, NOW we have... Very Rare Alphas that allow us to be so strong as to make a 3 man ITF readily doable.
And in 3 weeks (probably more like 1 week!), we'll have large groups of people with multiple Incarnate slots filled so as to make the TF MUCH MUCH easier to accomplish. And in a month or 2 we'll have a buncha people with multiple VERY RARE incarnate enhancements slotted, and these TFs might begin to seem even trivial.
And even when you fail the TF, you are still making progress. Does anyone STILL NOT GET THAT? -
Of course, if you insist on doing them all in the same day, on the same character (thus forfeiting some of the rewards due to Diminshing returns), then either there is OCD happening, or someone doesn't understand how this works.
-
Doing a TF 5-6 times to unlock a slot does not seem like grinding to me. By which time you will probably have collected enough threads/components to slot that puppy up. How many TFs did you run to get the very rare Alpha slotted?
Oh yeah, IMVHO. -
Quote:Pretty good haul for a bunch of failed TFs, though! Hmm, perhaps a conclusion could be drawn by others from this experience...You gotta be kidding me about running one trial a day. I think I ran 9 Lambdas, all of which failed, and 4 BAFs, all of which failed (and when I say failed, I mean failed and auto-quitted us via a bug.)
I have Interface and Destiny unlocked, just started working on Judgment, and have the first tier Interface Reactive slotted. -
Quote:Excellent, so you want the rewards, but not the effort. Sorry, no sympathy here.I agree..I don't have hours to play this game nor the time or patience to grind for some new ****.
Yes, we did get 2 new lower lvl tf's...and that's it.
Sorry folks but the incarnate stuff has zero appeal for me.My hero wants to become epic without boatloads of grinding or having to get on a league to get there. -
I have to agree- figuring out what salvage to take at the end of the trial seems to really slow things down, both psychologically for me, and physically in setting up teams. and starting the next trial.

Quote:Failure to understand why players didn't like the GDN, E.D., or even being locked into Patron pools appears to be showing up again as problems.
Defense shouldn't be invalidated completely, and more importantly not everyone build IO sets with defense in mind.
Well, there's a flaw with this argument. Let's say you're def capped. Now let's say, for argument's sake, the mobs before I20 had a 44% chance to hit you. So you take 0 damage.
Now, let's say the devs give the mobs +2% chance to hit. Now you're taking 100% DAMAGE. And you say,
"OMGWT*BBQTHISGAMEHASGONETOTHEAMERICANSEATINGTHEKI TTEHSOMGOMGOMG!!!"
Perhaps, instead of depending solely on "I WIN" buttons, people should look at their tactics, and rather than mashing buttons, think on their feet a little. It's beatable, even without an optimized team/build/etc...
BUT! The key was stated in another thread: You Don't need to 'win' the trial to advance your incarnate XP and achieve the desired goal (unlocking the slots)!! Don't worry about success/failure so much - UNLOCK THE SLOTS!! It will get easier as more people learn it, more people get THEIR slots, and more people get level shifted.
So RELAX and go with the flow. These things are great fun, if you relax and watch what's going on around you - people backing each other up, saving each other's bacon, adjusting to the enemies, beating a challenging foe... it's what I play the game for. -
Agreed with everything posted. The trials were great fun, they're especially good at first imo, when people are still learning the systems.
They're not impossible, but if people aren't following directions at least some of the time, and paying attention to mission goals rather than just killing all the things in front of them mindlessly, it is failable.
I ran each trial twice, and only 'failed' one out of the 4 (Lambda). But that one 'failure' earned me 30+% of one of the Incarnate slots, so it was not really valid as a 'fail', imo. -
"I can't hear you over my deafening awesomeness."
Also, the recent reveal about Krieger was 3 levels of Awesome - awesome because it was predictable, awesome because it was the throwaway, "duh, of course" move for the writers, and Awesome because they did it anyway and pulled it off like pros!
He is great in Bob's Burgers too, but I'm really digging the female characters -
Kristen Schaal as (daughter) Louise has some of the most jaw-dropping one-liners uttered on TV, imo, and John Roberts (?) as (wife) Tina does one of the most grating, yet somehow endearing voicings I've ever heard on an animated character.
Wow, I just read a review online that reminds me WHY she is 'somehow endearing' to me. At the risk of dating myself... Edith Bunker. Nuffsaid. -
If so, great! Favorite lines?

Quote:Again, technically, yes, your statement makes sense. But this would punish the player for making a character RP choice. Just like after you defeat LR in single combat (as part of a team), he doesn't send 500 Toxic Tarantulas after your insolent little upstart a**, so too the Devs decided that making you lose all of your inf on character changeover would be a) too draconian for the players to sign on, and b) just encourage workarounds (like setting bids on market recipes only to rescind them later and get the refund).Very true, though it does present some interesting questions with regard to how the Inf economy functions, not least because of the ludicrous levels of inflation; you would pretty much have to single-handedly fight off an entire invading alien fleet to be able to get so much as a bacon sandwich from a thankful citizen. Stopping a purse-snatcher would barely register on their radar as they would otherwise have to spend 24/7 repaying favours to heroes - if anything it's become so expected in Paragon that not helping people out in those situations would probably lead to a *loss* of influence
On the subject of which, shouldn't heroes who become villains or vice versa find themselves with negative infamy/influence respectively? Wouldn't a villain have to work off all that infamy before they started to be able to acquire influence from people?
I often think these questions are like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
