So, what comes closest to my goals from the above Choices. Which are fun from the start? Which are great, but not so good until the later lvls?
I'd go with a fire/mental hoverblaster with softcapped ranged defense. If you put the money in (and it'll be a lot), it can meet every one of your requirements.

    Ranged? Check
    Snipe? Check
    Good Solo? Check
    Good team? Check
    Solo AVs? Check

Should start off fairly quick. You'll be a damage powerhouse throughout with gobs of both AoE and ST damage, but early on you'll be pretty squishy, so soloing as you level will be more difficult (but certainly still doable). As the build matures and you start building up ranged defense, you'll get tougher and tougher. Soloing archvillains will definitely be possible once you hit 50, and possibly before then depending on the build you use, and whether you're willing to use inspirations.

Purple drops are quite rare, and random, so they can be really streaky. I run battle maiden farms, and have run 22 in a row with not a single purple drop before. I've also gotten 6 purples in 5 runs. Just keep plugging away, and you'll get them eventually.
  3. If I'm running a team and invite a kin, it's with the assumption that speed boost will be part of the package (assuming we're high enough level that it's available). If they have it and aren't using it, I'll usually ask them to. If they continue not to use it, or cop an attitude about it, I kick them.

    Ticket rolls

Anyone know what the current best value for spending architect tickets is?
  6. Get rid of prestige and just have people spend inf to build/upkeep supergroup bases. Set prices at whatever you want to set them at to pull as much inf out of the system as necessary. Set up a system where the leader can set 'dues' that each member must pay every month to stay in the SG.

    Crazy Idea

    Sounds good to me.
  9. Any toon that's less than 50 that I'm not having fun with gets deleted, I just don't see a point to keeping them around. Once a toon hits 50, I'm a bit more circumspect about deleting them, but some do end up getting deleted even then, mostly older toons that I haven't played in a very long time and can't see myself wanting to play in the future.
  10. Things like this are why I don't keep more than about 200 million in actual inf on any of my characters.

"Lack of visible attention" is also not "trying to get rid of."

Go find specific dev actions and statements that are aimed at eliminating a community. The only ones you'll find, if you want to call them a community, are "abusers of exploits" and "RMTers."
Farming and PL'ing specifically. The majority of the subcommunities in this game are either actively encouraged (PvP, Badging, RP, AE) or ignored (Bases, Marketeers). The Farming/PL community (I lump the two together, since they are so closely related) is the only one where the devs actively try to discourage their activities. And before you respond with "the only thing they were trying to do is close exploits", think about it a little harder. There's quite a few things they've done that have nerfed the ability to farm/PL that were not exploitive in the first place.

There are lots of little subcommunities in this game. I think that is one of it's strong points. All of the subcommunities would like bug fixes, changes, improvements, etc. I think most people understand that they can't cater to all of these subcommunities every issue. But some communities get attention every issue and others are simply told about vague plans on the horizon.

In particular, the PvP and the Base subcommunities have been left hanging for a long time.
I agree with you about base builders, but the PvPers got quite a bit of attention recently. That attention wasn't really what they wanted, but they got it.

I do find it interesting that the devs support certain subcommunities of the game, while trying to get rid of others.

    I hate bandwagons.
If something is really hyped or FOTM I'll avoid it like the plague. Even if it's something I've looked forward to.

I refused to watch any Harry Potter movies until the hysteria died down. Then I of course fell in love with the series.

I was still rocking my pager in 2000, refusing to give in and get a cellphone. Now I can't live without one.

I'll end up avoiding Demons and Dual Pistols for at least 6 months after GR is released.
I still haven't made a Shield toon because its still so shiny.

    Does this make me weird?
I think it boils down to me not wanting to be sheeple. I don't wanna be someone doing something just because everyone else is. Even when it's something I might enjoy.
Just can't stand being a clone I guess. So I'll wait and let the newness go away, wait until everyone stops gushing over something, then in the shadows I'll watch it, or I roll one up, and ask myself why I waited.

Anyone else avoid bandwagons like me?
I'm sure you're not the only person like this, but I certainly don't do it. I couldn't care less if there are 1000 other people running around doing the same thing as me. If it's fun, or it's useful, then I'll gladly be number 1,001.
  14. I very rarely go out of my way to get badges. The only time I do it is if I want some accolade, and I don't even get those very often. I tried PvP once, and didn't enjoy it, so I won't go back. The only time I enter PvP zones now is to get shivans, warburg nukes, or try and farm PvP IOs with my wife. I used to use AE quite a bit when you could PL effectively with it, but now that that got nerfed all to hell, I don't use it either. So essentially all three of these things are pretty much huge wastes of developer time as far as I'm concerned.

    The Boot Myth

I've never kicked someone solely because they had a sub-par build, or left out an important power in their build. I'll occasionally ask someone if they left something out for reason or just didn't realize they should take it (scrappers without mez protection seem to get this question most commonly from me). And I will occasionally kick someone because they're not contributing to the team at all, or are actually being detrimental to the team. Sometimes a bad build will contribute to this kicking, but I've never looked at someone's build and kicked them immediately simply because it didn't match up to what I would make.

I do and I don't. I can run my end bar from full to empty in less than a minute while farming, but transference solves that problem quite handily. The blues are for if I miss. I rarely go through more than 3 or 4 in a farm run, but those and breakfrees are the only types I use, so I keep my insp. tray full of them.

Maybe its time the Bank of Paragon city is created. In this bank you can have MULTIPLE accounts that go to the cap of two billion(as i understand there is a computer programers reason why its got to be at 2 bill)

How ever in this "bank" we will be able to earn interest on our influ say once a month a certain percent say .01-.06.(fractions of a single influ are wiped)

Also we could rent with influ a safty deposit box to store recipies. To pay for safty deposit is a by toon basis not account this is to wipe out the new interest influence thats in theory created.

Also if your Bank account goes inactive your depost is charged a fee and/or put into a non interest bearing C.O.D.(certificate of deposit)to avoid people like me making so much interest on 10 bill or more even

    any ideas?

    thanks for listening
This game really needs less inf floating around, not more. I say this is a bad idea.
  18. Once you get to level 50, IF your character can handle taking out EBs quickly and efficiently, and you can stealth (or simply run past things ignoring them as they attack you), then the Maria Jenkins arc actually gives decent rewards/time. It's 16 missions, but the vast majority you only need to click a glowie, free some prisoners, or defeat an EB/AV and minions. There's only 1 mission that you have to defeat all on, and there's very little travel time for the arc, since the whole thing (as far as I can remember) takes place in various portal corp buildings. The contact is even close to portal court. It's worth 36 merits for completing, so you might want to check it out.

  19. Well, I finally made it into the club. I've had several billion in inf and IOs spread out over several characters for awhile now, but I usually tend to spend it before I get this much built up on a single character. I don't really have any expensive IOing projects at the moment though, so I was able to amass the small fortune that you see above. Most of the money was made farming purples.
  20. It'll never happen because marketing won't let them. The architect boxes bill AE as an alternative leveling path from 1-50, so in order to avoid claims of false advertising AE would have to give at least a little bit of XP. I wish they'd just leave it alone and let the people who want to farm do it.
  21. 1) I agree with that change, it's pretty minor.

    2) Agree with this one too. A set of DOs at level 12 will cost the character over 100k most likely, so the cap should be that high at least. 150k would be a good number for it.

    3) No problem with this either.

    4) This is the tough one. I'm not completely against it, but there would have to be some other protections in place to keep gold farmers from annoying everyone.

    5) Let whoever is in charge of the global channel decide whether they'd like to let trial accounts join or not. Simple solution.
  22. The only issue with a /traps corruptor and a brute is that if the corruptor is not careful, they can really slow the brute down and prevent building fury, or they get left behind, and aren't doing much to help out the brute. Traps is a good set, but it takes a good player to make the most of it, and that goes doubly when playing with a brute.
  23. I play mostly on teams, and I still skip my ally rez unless I can fit it in without sacrificing something else I want. I've never really had anyone give me any crap about it. I really wouldn't worry about it too much, especially if you mostly play solo.
  24. Brutes and corruptors go nicely together. Brutes and /kin corruptors go especially nicely. For a primary I'd pick something with some good AoE damage early on, since the SS/WP won't have any until 32. Archery/kin or fire/kin would be good choices.

I've never understood why some people are so fond of giving this answer whenever someone asks what AT is good at X. Sure, you CAN solo with any archetype, however some archetypes are much better at it than others, and just saying 'any AT can solo' is absolutely useless.

The best archetypes for soloing are, in no particular order, brute, scrapper, stalker, and mastermind. All four have a good blend of damage and survivability, and you'll be able to solo effectively with pretty much any powerset combo you pick.

Most of the other archetypes are a little more powerset dependent.

Blasters: Certainly capable of soloing effectively, blasters often walk a knife-edge between awesome and dead. Sets with good mitigation tools (ice/, sonic/, /ice, etc.) will solo easier than those without much mitigation (fire/fire for example).

Defenders: Very powerset dependent. A FF/dark or FF/electric defender is going to be incredibly painful to solo with, but a rad/*, or dark/* or something like that would be a quite effective soloer.

Controllers: Like defenders, controllers are very powerset dependent. A fire/rad would solo far, far better than an earth/FF for example.

Tanks: Same as controllers and defenders. Some tanks can solo nearly as well as scrappers (fire/fire for example, or shield/SS). Others (say stone/ice for example) not so much.

Dominators: Doms are a bit like blasters, but somewhat better at soloing, due to having more mezzes at their disposal. Still, sets with extra mitigation will solo more effectively than those without it.

Corruptors: Similar to defenders, but not quite as powerset dependent, due to slightly more damage from the primary, and not having the two powersets that make the worst soloers (empathy and force field)

I won't get into VEATs and HEATs, since I don't play them really.
