And I don't agree that */Kin pairs with everything. It does not pair well with a ranged Blaster or Defender or ranged Controller. If the OP had wanted to pair up a Controller with, for example, a Fire Blaster, I would have suggested an Earth/Rad as a better choice.

Leveling up, a Plant/Kin provides more damage mitigation for a scrapper than a Fire/Kin, but still contributes a fair amount to the damage of the pair. The Plant/Kin lacks strong single target damage, but the scrapper makes up for that.

However, from experience, I suggest that the Plant/Kin get some kind of stealth -- whether it be Super Speed or one of the nice Stealth IOs (or both). You have to get in just the right position for maximum use of Seeds, and sometimes that scrapper may not hold all the aggro.

Speed Boost will make sure your buddy never lacks in endurance or recharge. Siphon Power and then Fulcrum Shift will boost his damage to huge levels. And even ID will buff his Resistance and protection from Knockback (assuming he is Fire secondary, although you may want to consider Shield -- a Fire/Shield puts out huge amounts of damage once he gets Shield Charge). You will have a melee heal for him -- which heals a lot more than Rad's heal.

I have a Plank/Kin at the moment who was designed to pair with a Shield scrapper . . . awesome pair. The scrapper gathers the foes into a nice group while you heal, then Seeds, Roots, Fulcrum Shift and your buddy can wipe out the group with a single Shield Charge. And your Speed Boost helps Shield Charge come back faster!

But really, most combos would work. Earth alone has so much control (and a tanky pet) your scrap friend would barely be in danger. I'd say with Earth you could even go /kin to sb him (and FS later) so he kills faster and use your heal targeted through him. Unless you're planning to play at x8, then I'd recommend something with more debuffs like Rad, although Emp works well too. Just seems like a waste, all the potential of Empathy for one single teammate (and maybe the pet if you don't go Mind/).

Anyway I'd go Plant/Rad, great combo for control + buffs/debuffs and you can nuke your friend if you take Fallout for bonus fun points.

There are guides here on how to make influence. The ones that are stickied at the top of each forum, but still possible to miss if you dont hang out here too often. The ones where the links are broken on the first post because of the forum migration a while back.

Is not knowing this, and just asking a basic question in a forum called "Player Help" really worthy of ridicule though?

I must be doing something wrong... because I think maybe COMBINED all my toons have 125 million influence. To pay that much just for ONE of my toons to have a 7.5% global recharge rate... baffles me.

But it's on my end... because it's certainly a powerful IO and in VERY high demand obviously.

I've got no problem with people who don't understand the market. There are several things about CoH's "economy" that aren't intuitive.

I've got no problem with people who think stuff is too expensive, particularly if they don't understand the market.

I've got a problem with people who come in here proclaiming regular market users as somehow denying them access to inventions, usually accompanied with pretty direct insults when folks here try to explain how (a) that's not usually the case at all and (b) what they need to know to use the market successfully.

Players in the Tanker forum don't like it when posters wander in there proclaiming that the Tanker AT sucks while showing that they know little about how the AT works, and then telling anyone who tries to explain the AT that they're just fanbois who would say anything to stand up for their favorite AT. It's one thing to not want to play a Tanker, or think it has issues. It's another to tell everyone else who likes it that they're wrong and suck.

The analogy definitely isn't perfect, but we get our version of that in here plenty often. Oh, and then we're lambasted for defending the status quo when we flame such people.

But we'll be clueless or whatever, because the insults do not hurt our feelings one bit.

Also, you're clearly talking about a scrapper, which is fine except this person is a villain. Currently there's no comparison.

I have an elec/sd brute, and I am definitely not 1-shotting even cons with LR or SC (and I assure you it's at the damage cap).
