and why not stun ?people give that skill such a bad wrap but it seems classic for smacking down on a dominator/corruptor
[/ QUOTE ]
You can 2 or 3-shot dominators and corruptors anyway, with very high chance of inconsequential disorient from your attacks in doing so. Theres no point in wasting 2 seconds just for using stun
And outside sirens call total focus is miles better than stun, if you want to disorient some squishy. Only theoretical reason for getting stun would be to stack disorients to mez a character with disorient protection. But I'm not convinced its possible anyway until someone shows me.
ps, in sirens call,
Aim, BU, Bonesmasher, energy punch, bitter ice blast
= dead dom/corr or a brute propably low at life depending on brute
[/ QUOTE ]
do you reckon the first ice attack is worth it? or should i be thinking about ditching that all together.. I mean for the sake of regularity i like it.. at the same time the damage isn't inspired. -
say no more, i was secretly hoping for the mobility.. I was just having trouble letting go of the concept.
I do fancy myself as abit of a closet blapper also -
oh they dont? fair dink i suppose..

I've been building a blaster for primarily pvp, and having revised the build a fair few times this is what I have come up with, for at least the first 30 levels for sirens.
Level: 32
Archetype: Blaster
Primary: Ice Blast
Secondary: Energy Manipulation
---------------------------------------------
01) --> Ice Bolt==> Acc(1) Acc(3) Dmg(7) Dmg(9) Dmg(15)
01) --> Power Thrust==> Acc(1)
02) --> Ice Blast==> Acc(2) Acc(3) Dmg(7) Dmg(9) Dmg(15) Rechg(31)
04) --> Build Up==> Rechg(4) Rechg(5) Rechg(5)
06) --> Swift==> Run(6)
08) --> Hurdle==> Jump(8) Jump(27) Jump(27)
10) --> Bone Smasher==> Acc(10) Acc(11) Dmg(11) Dmg(13) Dmg(13) Rechg(29)
12) --> Combat Jumping==> Jump(12) Jump(25) Jump(25)
14) --> Super Jump==> Jump(14)
16) --> Aim==> Rechg(16) Rechg(17) Rechg(17)
18) --> Bitter Ice Blast==> Acc(18) Acc(19) Dmg(19) Dmg(21) Dmg(21) Rechg(29)

22) --> Acrobatics==> EndRdx(22)
24) --> Stealth==> EndRdx(24)
26) --> Invisibility==> Rechg(26)
28) --> Power Boost==> Rechg(28)
30) --> Stun==> Acc(30) Acc(31) Rechg(31)

02) --> Rest==> Empty(2)
01) --> Defiance==> Empty(1)

I was always fairly keen on the idea of stealth/invis for blastalking type of play, being as squishy as blasters are it seemed to make alot of sense, and for a sort of passive stalker defense.
recently i have been thinking about replacing stealth/invis with hasten/ss for the sake of the dps increase and the movement increase. Obviously I wont be able to take both, the build is way too tight as is.. Can anyone offer some advice as to how stealth/invis might fare later on, will FA render it fairly useless for RV?
I do feel somewhat naked without hasten for extra burst damage, but Im sure that the stealth/invis tactic defensively would pay off.
Any thoughts, I'd like to hear them. Cheers -
thats some pretty good advice there cognito..
Also I think the idea of teaming with good players rather than some of the horror stories you get at lower levels could be very gratifying rather than sitting in the same mission over and over for hours at a time.
in regards to the aoe aspect of spines, is quills generally frowned upon in a group as an aggro thing? or does it go down nice for another aoe dot? Its something I would like to fit in and use for the sake of going down the aoer route -
hi folks, im after a few opinions really regarding a character choice. I have 2 scrappers, a spines/regen and an ma/sr.. both of which I have enjoyed though lvl 32 seems to be somewhat a sticky point for me as they have both found themselves relatively crashed out on that level..
I'm in a rush to 50, for a few reasons. One being, I'm a leveler. I come from a background of lineage2 and other games with harsh grinds and old habits are hard to break. My MA/SR went from 1-32 pretty quick, under a week anyway I imagine, I'd have to chat to some civ's to get an exact time. Anyway I really have my eye on a peacebringer, so my goal target and aim is to get my first 50 and earn one.
my progress usually happens solo, and usually grinding pvp zone missions. Personally I have found this to be the fastest way to level period, faster even than good groups. I've been more than happy with the progress I have made with this method, however warburg mobs are quite tough.. Not until I stepped out for a break and tried fighting some freakshow did I realise quite how tough the arachnos mobs in warburg missions are
Anyway, I'm drifting from the point. Now that both my scraps are 32, I was thinking which would be the better to take to 50. In terms of potential for efficient leveling.
Its kinda hard to decide, as I feel MA to be vastly superior to spines in a black and white kinda way. The attack chain is nicer, the attacks are faster, its a slightly better damage type and on a single target simply better damage.
The only real cause for my contemplating taking up the spiner again is the concept that aoe > all in pve. While I can completely understand this and the reasoning that makes it true, in my playstyle I find that the bulk of the time I am only facing maybe 1-4 mobs and with the not so recent mission changes alot more of them are lieutenants, which for obvious reasons will not respond to aoe damage as well as a larger group of minions would.
That all said and done perhaps the answer lies in hazard zone grinding as an aoer and no pvp mission grinding. Then I have to ask myself would the superior grinding method ultimately yield more experience than the large mission completion bonuses in the pvp zones.
Anyway, thats my thoughts. Messily spread across the screen in a fashion probably void of senseBut if you have an opinion on it I would like your input. As I have no experience with the 32-50 end of the game. My current favour lies with the ma/sr as I am somewhat more fond of the character as a whole
Thanks -
I'm having some trouble coming to a decision about a char. While recently playing around I fell in love with broadsword in general, i think it looks great, hits like a beast. All good.
The obvious choice seems to be /regen as I have a regen, I know how to power it and slot it and generally am very comfortable on having full end bar from level 4+
However I cannot seem to get past the seemingly glaring synergy between broadsword and SR.
1, Parry should stack beautifully with SR toggles/passive to make you extremely hard to hit.
2, Broadsword's main stated downfall is the attacks slow recovery speed. Quickness should aid this while hasten is cooling.
3, chopping stalkers in half because you can see them is cool. This isn't particulary a BS/ only effect but still, it's worth mentioning.
Now to the issues, BS is end heavy. Afaik SR isnt to end light either. 2 end heavy trees + no regeneration skills pre 20 = a hard ride :/ That worries me. What worries me more than the hard ride 1-20 due to poor end management is if stamina simply doesn't cut it and I still struggle post 20.
Thats my biggest fear, after playing a regen who was a joy to level probably due to the fact that he could grind like a badass without downtime going to someone who rests after each group is less than slightly undesirable.
so really, what i need to know is.
1, Just how bad is this combo for end drain, just how good is stamina..
2, will aid self + sr compare to the survivability of regen or surpass it? PvP/PvE Or will this just add to the End woes.
3, Am I laying too much faith in SR's quickness to overall improve broadswords slowness?
BS/SR, powerful concept? or destined to have less endurance than a preteen chainsmoker at a very high altitude ?
Thanks for reading my tired ramblings -
aaah, its so hard to get a definitive answer
if ice is better for pvp, how does it do in pve? I do like to solo quite alot, coming from other games where grinding has been paramount leveling the pvp missions solo is where I got most of my levels.. but I fear as a blaster I may end up with more debt than levels -
i'm aware of ice/en's strength, but the set generally worries me in pve
through ways of no protection for yourself and end issues.. both of which sonic seems to solve :P unless you can convince me otherwise -
hehe, well thats definately convincing.. I will give it a go,..
The idea of -res before dropping a big bomb like total focus really appeals to me, introduces abit more technique to it..
I hope I like it
Also, how long does the -RES effect last on the target? Just wondering how many you can realistically stack -
So I've wanted a /en blaster for a while now.. for both pve and pvp I liked the sounds of the tree but trying to find a fitting primary hasn't been as easy !
Most of them leave me worried that my PvE experience will be tainted with many many many horrific deathsUntil I read abit about sonic, with the sleeps/stuns it seemed like a great solo tree to hook up with /en.. Sirens song sounds amazing!
But will sonic let me down on the battle field? Screech sounded great in that I could stun someone with it then come in for the big /en blap .. is that realisitic or will i be met with a resistance from every decent player ingame?
I'm not sure how mez resistance works or where you would get it from in terms of powers. -

apparently you cannot read properly

I think this is the sort of thing that got your previous post deleted. BTW. I doubt anyone here takes issue with you playing a spine/regen anyway.

the difference is it was a reponse to a flame, which I am not going to treat with a large amount of respect, no. -
[ QUOTE ]
Bridger and if he has done that, you ARE in violation of forum rules, probably the ones regarding flamebaiting given the way you've been posting/
[/ QUOTE ]
Human error. I was in no such violation. I was not flaming. I have told you once already and I will tell you again. It's fine to misinterpret the nature of my post but do not presume to state my intentions or tone. You are wrong. Its that simple.
I will not respond on your argument, I didn't even take the time to read it, because as it stands I will not engage in a debate while perfectly well structured and polite posts are being deleted.
Its a matter of principle. I do enjoy discussion on classes greatly, but it seems I wont be allowed to do so here because the general population cannot discern between a powerful arguement and flaming. Yourself included.
Poor moderation has left me very disappointed and ticked off. Which is another reason I will not continue to partake in this discussion because I am not a flamer and I will not let my irritation polute the discussion. So this is my last post on the matter, lets consider it closed and let the topic digress as normal.
cheers -
I do not need an explanation, thanks.
I am perfectly aware that what I wrote was not personal nor were they flames directed at anyone. -
Excuse me, but what is the point in holding a debate when almost all of my posts are being deleted?
I have to assume because there were in no way in violation of any forum rules that simply whoever deleted them didn't like that my arguments were correct.
Yet another tyranical rule of free speech? Welcome to the internet I guess. This will be the last time I engage in any debate on here. I am heavily disappointed.
A pathetic display of power abuse when it was not in the least bit required.

In short, the vast majority of people are supplying plenty of arguments and evidence to show exactly why they're overpowered compared to other AT's. Sure, you can disagree and give reasons saying why you disagree so others can argue back but replying in the manner you are is not doing that and saying people are 'whining', 'ridiculous' and the general sarcasm and thinly veiled insults in your latest posts is doing nothing to prove your point, just alienate anyone reading the thread against you.
[/ QUOTE ]
if insulting someone was my goal, I would come out and insult someone. My posts are'nt made for the point of sarcastically undermining the poster. They do that themselves with the overwhelming contradiction in the bulk of the arguments. I offered alot of solutions to the supposed overpoweredness of the class when the reality is people want them nerfed, they don't want to know how to do deal with them.
That is whining, whether you like me stating it or not, its a lame attitude and im not the one holding it. Don't target me because I say what is obvious.
Its fine to misinterpret my posts and their intention. But presumption has been the downfall of many a great man. Please do not put words in my mouth and presume because I type in a direct mannor that I am being purposefully insulting. -
well to be fair, im currently 26, with 3so dam in my impale, with buildup critting on a corruptor, the corruptor will not die.. he or she will certaintly feel it thats for damn sure, but 1 hit kill? nah
non crit impales do nice little damage yeah, I love the attack, but its vastly overrated outside of being a crit imo. -
my first char in coh is a spines/regen, after i hit around level 20 or so I discovered that it was the supposed FOTM and supposed overpowered pvper.. But frankly I refuse to reroll based on that alone..
Frankly I dont see what the fuss is about, though I will say squishies have generally been pretty easy to take on, but I have encountered more than one brute who gave me a really hard time, ive lost to a ss/elec brute more than once.. Stalkers I cannot kill short of some luck, buildup/impale/impale both critting is luck enough I guess providing that said stalker is poor enough not to heal before the 2nd impale or poor enough not to placate me after the first crit etc.. I can survive most stalker attacks though EM's drop me like a sack of potatos most days.. I have lost to some extremely powerful masterminds, who I consider to be a massively underrated class..
I dunno, I can see the strength of my character in pvp but I can also see its downfalls. Frankly I don't see what the fuss is about, you wont see a spines/regen doing the best damage in game, you wont find one taking the least damage ingame.. They arent massively overpowered pvp characters in any way shape or form, I dont know why there is a huge number of them around nor do I understand why people whine about them -
Hey, ive been toying with the idea of making myself a tanker, though being a pvp enthusiast I was concerned if there was a set / build capable of shifting enough damage to actually kill people..
During my adventures in sirens Ive come up against specifically /ss brutes. Who do awesome damage with rage/koblow.
Now, having dueled a few times on a brute myself, i noticed that you pretty much get no fury to speak of. I was also told that tankers have slightly higher base damage than brutes do to compensate for fury..
if both of these are true, shouldnt a tanker with the same sets do pretty much equal damage to his or her brute counterpart? If this is the case them my question is answered and the damage is pretty much fine.. But perhaps I was misinformed.
Can anyone clarify ? Basically on damage terms does a no/low fury brute output the same level of damage as a tanker? -

Wouldnt surprise me to be honest given that the game started as a pure PvE experience, and I don't think there wouyld be that much of an upcry if it did.
[/ QUOTE ]
is there that much of an endgame pve wise? There needs to be some incentive for leveling, i honestly though pvp would be more significant -
I see, still a difficult choice..
atm im swayed towards energy, all with the exception of power boost, which seems just fantastic.. I also like the feel of elec primary, though i dont know if it has any real benefits over anything else.. some nice holds?
Which do you think would have the edge in pvp situation? is power boost a must? -
[ QUOTE ]
EDIT: Unfortunately I think sirens call is the only zone with soem pvp going on.. Oh and quills does have a chance to hit while AS is activating, but defense builds manage quite enough defense to be safe.

the pvp scene of CoX is pretty much dead? -
I had a quick search on the forum, but didn't come across any basic comparison between these two for blapping. Only that they are both THE sets for blapping.. Can ayone give some pros and cons of each set?
Also, Ice seems an obvious primary, but I am somewhat drawn to electric because of the end return on it. Maybe if you pull with your ranged before you go into blap mode the end return might be useful for PVE purposes? or am I way off?
I'm keen to try out a blapstyle blaster, drawn to it by seeing the energy total focus animation in play, and it looks badassbut before I do I'd like to know if im making the best choice with /energy and not /elec
thanks! -
in response to the quills/spine burst breaking stealth theory, in my limited experience aoe moves like these are really quite anal in terms of distance..
for example if i use the move with the stalker outside of the range, but he moves in while its casting and before it effectively goes off, he still wont be hit by it.. same principal with me moving into mobs, if i jump in and hit the button while jumping, the mobs will be considered out of its range.. it maybe differing play style to what i am used to in other games, but this aoe-range-delay leaves me feeling generally that aoe in itsself is less reliable than it could be..
Quills however with its fast cast time must have some merit in unsheathing stalkers although from what I have read stalkers get high evasion rates to aoe?
At any rate, focus accu and tactics seems like a surefire way to somewhat level the playing field, even if a stalker were to get in and start the AS on me, it would be easy to interrupt if they were visible, even at that range.
Could I ask though, are the higher pvp zones active? I heard that SC was one of the more popular and even then it doesnt ever seem to be flooded with people. I think I would much prefer playing at max cap or closer to it than with limited skills in SC.. just my perception of how enjoyable it would be.
I think I have seen some clips of RV, it looked pretty enjoyable. -
[ QUOTE ]
Fighting stalkers comes down to two things - 1) being able to spot them, and 2) denying them the opportunity to use AS.
The first means getting +perception, whether from tactics (from the leadership pool), the temporary IR goggles that are available in sirens when heroes have control of the zone, or from being granted +per from an empath or sonic defender/controller.
The second is about movement - never stand still long enough for a stalker to hit you with AS. This forces them to kite you with something like Energy Transfer, and try to placate/AS. If you don't manage to keep them in their tracks with a swift impale, retreat.
Other powers that can be useful... from Regen, pick up resiliance, which will give you some protection from the stuns from energy melee.
Have integration constantly running, with at the very least 3 heal SOs in there, reconstruction slotted 3 recharge, 3 heal, same for dull pain and instant healing.
The very best stalkers will still kill you, but you should be able to tip the balance a little more in your favour by following those tips.
The very best way to deal with stalkers is to team up, preferably with an empath granting clear mind, or a sonic granting clarity, or with a /devices blaster who is capable of revealing the stalkers from hide, and calling the targets. Teaming makes PvP a) easier, and b) more fun.
Hope that helps.
[/ QUOTE ]
Some nice advice there, thanks for the reply.
[ QUOTE ]
The biggest thing Cap has missed off though is the epic powers. Focussed Accuracy turns stalkers into a poor mans scrapper, even more so when coupled with tactics.
Unfortunately, depending on WHERE you PvP makes a difference. In sirens, the players you really want to worry about are also the ones who will have fit stealth into their build before lvl 30, meaning tactics will not give you enough +PER to see them until it's too late and the same goes for Warburg.
In RV, FA and tactics make this no worry which is why so few stalkers venture there.
In all fairness though, a spine/regen should not be getting AS'd regularly even without all this as quills should interrupt the AS a lot of the time. If you're standing still long enough for stalkers to actusally time the AS to avoid Quills, I suspect your problems lie elsewhere.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes I stand still. Why? Because I want a fight. I didn't goto a pvp zone to run away from people. The only way to get a stalker out of hide for me is to stand still and let them AS me, and try to pick up the pieces to fight back.
I don't understand the huge emphasis on not standing still, theres no other way to engage in a fight with a stalker if I cant see them, so I stand still.. Then try to do the best I can, which is rarely adequite. -
This isn't as much a whine post as a cry for help..
Let me give you some details, i'm a spines/regen scrapper, new to the game and apparently a fotm build and apparently one of the stronger pvpers though I have very much yet to see why..
I love pvp, in all mmo I play I love pvping, its primary reason that I do play these games. So when I found out my spines/regen scrapper was meant to be pretty good, I was really pleased. So I leveled her up abit and hit mid 20's and thought id head into sirens to see how I performed.
At first I had trouble doing any kind of damage, I pretty much felt less threatning than a kitten and definlatey not the lion people had implied I should be.. A very kind person helped me out with alot of inf so I could slot SO into my attacks. This helped, it gave me a much nicer bite than I had previously been trying to fight with..
Then came the EM stalker.. bam bam, 2 hit me.. I thought, ok.. well.. it is EM, that hits hard. I'm not running dull pain either so maybe if i was I wouldnt have dropped quite so quickly.
Then came a katana stalker, bam bam, 2 hit me.. I thought, isnt katana meant to be slightly weaker than EM? Why did I go down in 2 hits again?
Eventually after a few days now in sirens, stalkers are wiping the floor with me. Even if I react and use reconstruction after AS, im only put on about 60% hp and placate/restealth and AS finishes me.. I cant keep the out of stealth, they simply run until I get a miss then its game over. if they dont run its placate and I cant attack them, game over. I cant seem to do any significant damage to them either though admitedly I miss an attack currently.
At the end of the day, im confused. I took a scrapper to have decent hp so I couldnt get one hit by stalkers. I took regen so I could survive the initial assasin strike and not get owned by stalkers. So far, its not working. Trying to PvP has become a misery because stalkers just wipe the floor with me so easily..
Is theres something I am particularly doing wrong? I really dont know.. how I am suppost to be the fotm overpowered pvp class/build when most of the villains in sirens kill me with 2 buttons..
I fancied a blaster but refuseed to make one becuase I thought I would be incapable of fighting stalkers.. As it turns out, I am anyway.. I hate to whine, but how can I be so weak, they be so strong and still have people telling me im overpowered and FOTM. At least I could handle the disrespect given to my build if I actually was winning.
advice is welcome
