/Elec vs /Energy blapper ?

I had a quick search on the forum, but didn't come across any basic comparison between these two for blapping. Only that they are both THE sets for blapping.. Can ayone give some pros and cons of each set?

Also, Ice seems an obvious primary, but I am somewhat drawn to electric because of the end return on it. Maybe if you pull with your ranged before you go into blap mode the end return might be useful for PVE purposes? or am I way off?

I'm keen to try out a blapstyle blaster, drawn to it by seeing the energy total focus animation in play, and it looks badass but before I do I'd like to know if im making the best choice with /energy and not /elec

thanks!

Don't pick elec primary for the end return, pick it for end drain. End return is nice and all but it doesn't really have a huge effect on anything. If you aren't going for endurance drain you're probably better off with ice.

Regarding secondaries, /nrg gets Power Boost which is wonderful for your holds, self heals, endurance drains etc. It gets Build Up earlier and has disorient as a secondary effect, which is nice.

/Elec gets a slightly higher damage melee chain and gets it earlier, Thunder Strike shares the same animation and does same ST damage as Total Focus but you get it at 28 and it has an AoE damage portion (and knockback, some like it but it annoys me), and you also get Shocking Grasp which is a melee hold with good damage. Power Sink is much better than Conserve Power, it's the best endurance recovery power in the game apart from Transference. But of course you get it much later.

I see, still a difficult choice..

atm im swayed towards energy, all with the exception of power boost, which seems just fantastic.. I also like the feel of elec primary, though i dont know if it has any real benefits over anything else.. some nice holds?

Which do you think would have the edge in pvp situation? is power boost a must?

In the game, hmm, I think villains may have something comparable.. Anyways I love conserve energy, it works best after something has crashed you to 0 end (nova, force of nature). Power sink has to hit something first after all.

Energy +buffs, slightly weaker damage. Elec +damage, end drain, hold, anti-stalker field (which only really works against regen stalkers though).

Well i really dont have much experience about elec, only played against it. I think theres not that much difference in damage. The hold is not essential, but it is an added threat. People would need to pack break frees against both /energy and /elec anyway (energy for stuns)

Powersink is autohit but of course it does need a target. Conserve Power is nice too, but the recharge is what kills it for me. Blaster Power Sink has a base recharge of 60 seconds. They both cost endurance so neither can be used right after a nova without a CaB.

Some villains do have something comparable, it's called Power Sink. The PPP version has double recharge, though.

/Elec doesn't have a higher damage melee chain. It has 1 extra attack (Shocking Grasp) which is moderate ticking damage for stupid end cost. If you're a looking at the Sherksilver planner the figure for /Energy energy punch is wrong.

Conserve power is a wonderful thing for an Elec/ 1v1 PvP build. It means you can nuke without having all of your end drained.

Power Boost makes /Energy the clear choice, imo.

I thought Nukes drained about 60-70 endurance per target hit. So for 1 on 1 PvP you will still be able to use attacks post nuke whether you have conserve power or not. Power Sink could achieve the same purpose, to allow you to carry on fighting.

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.

i still don't consider shockin grasp abd damage. a brawl index of 5 is good damage imop.

Nope. It's nice to have, but not needed. It depends somewhat on your primary, playstyle and if you have aid self in your build.

Boost Range however is one, if not the best powers a Blaster can have in PVP. I'd take that before Power Boost any day.

Both Power Boost and Boost Range are what makes the biggest difference between /Elec and /Energy.

I knew that but I didnt know enough about /elec to make a comparison. So I echoed what ive been told

Kinda funny, im thinking of ditching boost range from my build but not power boost.. I still havent figured out a way to get heal self in..

If someone would help me test more builds on test server..

I used to think exactly this, but I have recently begun to favour power boost for it's extreme versatility.

I wouldnt have a build at 50 without either.

quite simply elec/nrg and elec/elec are both awesome, as are ice/nrg and ice/elec (although the latter is prolly not as uber as the the others).

I've found that it comes down to skill once u have the build, Valens there is great with elec/nrg, i'm not bad with all elec, bear in mind that in PvE they aren't massively differnt although elec/elec is higher DPS with better end management. /elec has higher BIs than /nrg, but you don't really see it imo, although /elec comes into it's own dmg wise than /nrg, /nrg gets the uber self buffs (which you tend not to need in PvE).

bleh, pick one and make it, then practice ofr 1000s of hours.

Plight

P.S. in my personal opinion elec/elec is better btw

P.P.S. Shocking Grasp is high end cost cost 'cos it does moderate - high end drain, extreme damage and it's a mag 2 hold all in one, with the right HOs it would be rediculous

Agreed.

I guess it kinda depends on the primary you pick. Personally I really enjoy having Boost Range on my Fire/Nrg because I can snipe from uber distance and can drop Blaze from quite far away. Boost range on an Ice/Nrg is already ridiculous because Ice has great range already. I like it on Elec as well, because of the ranged Nuke.

I could see some potential in using it on Sonic primary, except maybe for the rooting issues that has. Archery might benefit greatly as well, with Boost Range + Blazing Arrow(should give you about Snipe range, without the animation time, or interrupt times) and only slightly less damage than Blazing Bolt

However, I don't know how useful it really is on the primaries like Energy or Assault Rifle. Basically any primary that can't do significant ranged damage will not benefit as greatly from it.

Power Boost is usefull for hitting through ridiculously high defense and it can buff self heals like Aid self. I know very few people that actually use it for boosting their hold duraction or other secondary effect in PVP as it's usually just quicker and easier to just beat the [censored] out of someone.
