Pfft that's nothing.
Micron disappeared around April/May 05 (allegedly with internet issues), he finally returned end of April 07 and had paid his subs all that time... nutter!
-
Gratz!
Careful, you could be had up for dinging in a public place! -
They made so many changes to the trial accounts I can't recall what is and isn't possible. My fuzzy memory says they blocked being able to use /tells from trial accounts as well.
edit: Found it:
[ QUOTE ]
Trial Accounts can only speak in
1. /local
2. /help
3. /team
[/ QUOTE ]
so no /tells
[ QUOTE ]
Trial Accounts cannot email other players
[/ QUOTE ]
Which could suggest they'd coded to allow trial accounts to use things like tells and ingame emails to converse with GMs. -
You'd assume given the more unique nature of the prize on offer in this comp that the result would get a mention on the front page here.

If the server population was as low as some people seem to think it is, then they'd drop below financially viable levels, and something would be done about it.
The fact that nothing HAS been done, should tell all you doubters something. There's no way in hell a company wanting to make money, will take a loss on a monthly basis. We know for a FACT that NCSoft can and DO cut their losses, even with CoH. We have Korea as an example of that.
If the EU servers were struggling, they'd have merged or closed them already.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not saying they are or they aren't in trouble but it is perfectly possible for the population to be low AND for the game to be still financially viable as we don't know how bad it has to get before it drops below what NCSoft deems acceptable. EU can be struggling without reaching the point of merger or closure, the two aren't mutually exclusive. Obviously Korea crossed that threshold and Europe hasn't yet, assuming they set out the same goals for both areas.
EU may not be even close to the point they'd consider shutting us down but it's somewhat blinkered to say everything's smelling of roses and player population is good. Imo player population is acceptable, but hardly good. -
I've found as the 50s have passed I've gotten less particular about where they happen. I don't think I ever managed to set an alt up to ding just at the exact moment an AV was defeated but having friends around is generally the way to go.
Saying that on my defender I did it in an 8 man PuG after 2am. I hadn't planned (or rather I hadn't hoped) to make it that night, but kept plugging away. I was surprised and delighted when the team leader sent me a tell asked me was I planning on staying up to hit 50 and when I said I would if I could said he had planned to go to bed but would keep going until I did. It wasn't something I expected from a PuG. -

We're still here with more players then ever... I think. I can't back that up, as I don't have the numbers.

[ QUOTE ]
But basically, do you have any figures to support this claim of 'dead servers'?
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny.
The servers appear quieter recently in my highly scientific examination of looking for a team when I come on at night. However getting a team has always seemed totally oblivious to server population. I can get a team on a dead server one night and the next night the place could be swamped and nothing, nadda, zilch. It's early in the thread but I'm expecting the "oh it's the summer, it'll pick up after the holidays" any minute now...
If I thought a EU server merge would improve my chances of invites (I'm aware I can improve them myself by making a team) I'd take my chances in a naming lottery (and then be seriously [censored] off when my favourite alt loses its name!). But I doubt anything short of connecting our servers stateside would have a profound enough impact on player numbers to increase those chances enough to make them noticeable. -

Some seem quite expensive to maintain, £10 startup and £5 a month, others like the 3v card are free to run but more limited on your purchasing. -

Having spent some time looking at the pictures of everyones bases I decided to do a bit more work on ours and try to make it look more interesting.
[/ QUOTE ]
You fell into the trap.
There are certainly things I've seen I'd like to incorporate (and possibly will eventually) but I know if I start I'll end up spending hours and days I hadn't intended to on a complete redesign, and then screaming at some inanimate pixellated item that won't sit in the correct spot! -
I'd like to have seen some detailed pics but from what I can make out I'm impressed how much you've managed in a 1 man.
With our two most used bases we (myself and other) discussed upping the base size but decided to leave it at the default as we'd have ended up leeching the prestige away on rent as we don't play enough hours to be sure of keeping ahead of the base rent.

For a limited time, all accounts that log into the Live Servers will receive 2 free Character Slots. This is for a *Limited* time only.
[/ QUOTE ]
Source
... AFAIK We were not told that we need to assign slots within a time limit at I12 launch (and most definitely not in the EU release notes).
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm confused... I thought the patch notes were quite clear in that the 2 slots would only be able to be claimed for a limited amount of time (emphasis in original quote is mine) and I also read that as need to be assigned too. I automatically read that as NCSoft would stop giving out the slots to accounts that did not claim/assign them before a set date. I assigned the slots straight away but I was expecting this sort of announcement at some point anyway.
I personally don't have an issue with this announcement because as far as I can see this was made quite clear right from day 1.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think this is were the problem is. You have emphasised what you read as being they would be available only for a limited time.
I read the same in the release notes and saw more emphasis in the first part. I logged into my account on the day i12 was released and received my 4 slots (2 free, 2 vet). I took the wording of the statement to be that I had now secured my slots to do with as I pleased at a later date. I saw the second part of the statement as emphasising the fact the first part was making that you this was a limited time offer and if you didn't log into your account within the time frame you wouldn't receive the extra slots, not that you would lose them again if you didn't immediately assign them.
The wording to me was similar to for example receiving the anniversary badges, you had to log into your characters within iirc a month of the anniversary to be awarded the badge otherwise the window would close and any characters not logged within that time frame would not receive the badge. -

I did wonder that but the Daily Mirror has always required a higher reading skill than I'm used to so I assumed I was missing it, which probably I am. -

Naw - it wasn't all that clear, but I think he meant the "where's the game set" question, that's answered in the text at the start of the contest.

It's a little vague on the spec, any chance you could expand on the details?
Entered anyway but I'd like to know what I'm not going to win. -
Are you sure those sprinkles are chocolate? Being naked and all they could be anything.

People moan too much about the way people play this game. Everyone pays just as much every month to be able to play and as long as they play by the rules no one should interfere.
[/ QUOTE ]
I always have a laugh when this comes up.
Technically not everyone pays the same. If you chose to only pay a month at a time you pay more than someone who signs up for 3 or 6 months. I think it should be decreed that anyone who pays month by month gets to tell anyone who signs up for 3 or 6 months how to play their game and if you pay 3 months you get to tell those on 6 months plans what to do. Those who sign up for 6 months tell no one how to play and have to listen to everyone else. That should sort everything.
(I'm getting strange visions of John Cleese and the Two Ronnies...!) -
While technically it is farming this to me has a distinct difference. I have no problem with accepting a space on a farming team if I'm looking for any old PuG. I'm gaining xp and inf/prestige, the team gains by getting an extra member (in many cases they're no more efficient than any other PuG but that's off the point).
This to me is a one way street, the other person is gaining pvp rep, you're gaining sweet FA. Except that you're needed to rez your alt and drag it like a lamb to the slaughter every x minutes you might as well go read a book or watch the telly. That's why imo this really needs to be done amongst friends, you'd need to be to hang around doing this for any length of time. -
I've heard of people doing it amongst friends or sgs to quickly gain rep in pvp, doesn't sound like the smartest thing to ask a complete stranger to do it.

You do use the desks but you also use the floor heights, moving the floor up and down as required for the different levels. I can't access the link atm but someone on the US forums posted a list of heights for common items. By changing the floor height you can adjust the height of stacked objects quite precisely.

Interesting to see the chaser pics, especially the pics showing them in relation to the flyer. Might be able to squeeze one or two in when the time comes.
Is there any restrictions re placing them or can they just go anywhere atm? -
Ok I'm game to put my head in the noose.
I've made 3 bases in my time, Defiant villains side was my first (max number of active players 5, currently 2-3), then Union heroes (3 active, sorta) and then finally I inherited a bit of prestige from being a member of a now long defunct Defiant heroes group so I decided to knock together a base, still at it as I scrape the next little bit of prestige (mostly me and my alts with an occasional other).
Defiant Villains:
Overview
Entrance
Transport
Control
Medbay
Meeting 1
Meeting 2
Meeting 3
Workshop
Energy
Union Heroes:
Overview
Entrance
Medbay
Control
Energy
Transport
Workshop
Workshop 1
Workshop 2
(the workshop has been my one big attempt with stacking. If I had any advice for someone trying this is not to do it with an already full room... and base!)
Defiant Heroes:
Overview
Entrance
Energy
Control
Transport
Workshop
One thing I always hated on other peoples bases was finding the correct teleporter for a zone. Villains isn't a problem with only the 4 telepads needed. Both heroside bases I've made a point of the destinations laid out based on zone level so the first beacon you meet is for Atlas and the last is for PI and the layout for the transport doesn't branch. -
Base wiring can be a little tempremental. Prior to i12 I had managed to jerry-rig the control on one base so that I was short 15 control yet everything in the base worked correctly. I've now found a few items have stopped working so I'm busy earning prestige to add a bigger aux control.
-
I can't think of anything either. I even went to ponder it on my own villain side base editor to see if I could see anything obvious.
If it had been hero side I'd have thought you mightn't be producing enough energy and might need to add some energy aux but running 4 base tpers (all a villain needs) and not having an expert workbench in your workshop you should have more than enough energy without aux energy (btw make sure if you are running energy aux you haven't mixed tech and arcane) and control to run a villain side base. -
Until a couple of days ago I just could not get the magic desks to work reliably enough to attempt any stacking. Then I came across this post by Impish_Kat on the US forums. It's the most coherent post on the subject I've found and it doesn't leave you stranded in the middle unsure which way to go.
Using the rustic flattop is a bonus for the amateur stacker. Yes it's slower as it has a smaller footprint than the usual magic desk but as the desks don't need to be built into pyramids you're not left guessing if you started in the correct place.
