  1. I have found a use for them in lowbie SFs and sometimes LGTF. Of the bunch, my favorites are:
    1) Envenomed Dagger - stick this in AVs
    2) Kinetic Dampener - great when lucks and sturdy insps run out or for extra defense
    3) Recovery Serum
    4) Stun Grenade
    5) Hand Grenade
    6) Plasmatic Taser
    7) Resuscitator
    8) Backup radio

The grenades are useful for crowd control in lowbie SFs and as backup powers when the Riders debuff your recharge down to -200%.

But I do I agree these drop too often and I'd rather have a yellow or orange recipe instead.

Usually, someone has Taunt in a team of 8.
I have Gloom which has a high Taunt effect as well as damage. I used it on Rom and based on previous posts, taunt should override his morale check and he should've come to me. However, he didn't chase me, so I guess someone else in the team had another fear/avoid power going. Thanks all for the replies! It's been helpful.
  3. I took OwtS also. It really helps on a non-softcapped brute like mine. It's useful in RSF. One time, Liberty wasn't shot with the rifle yet and she attacked me. Thankfully, I had clicked OwtS before, so when I took the hit, I survived with a few pixels of HP left. I also use it against Statesman when he goes unstoppable and in ITF during the cysts and PC.

And despite its name, Fortunata H can't be slotted in an actual fortunata toon.

About 4.2 mil for 5 rare salv or 540*5 tix = 2700 tix.
I guess a kin combat recipe would sell more than 1 mil.

    Now What?

Also look at Organica's reading the market thread. It has a lot of good explanations.
Don't forget to take a screenie of you in top hat, monocle, tea bag and Inf in your power monitor box for official club membership.
  7. Interesting... is your return for selling 7 bronze recipes better than selling 1 rare salv?

Why should they sell it to anyone for less? It's their drop/flip. The devs should not nerf any player's ability to sell their stuff at the price they would want to sell.
If you want something sooo badly, earn it yourself via recipe rolls, merit or A-merit exchange. There is no need to rely on other players to sell it to you.

    Electrical Melee

To squeeze Power Sink in, I gave up Jacob's ladder. Power sink sort of doubles as an attack. A drained enemy can't attack you.
  10. You must have at least 1 MM or a hero AT that receives the MM power. I've been on a team of 8 with no MM and before the SF started, I asked the leader if I should get my MM. He said no. That team couldn't outdamage Reich's regen. It had mostly damage ATs and 1 corruptor.
I've also been on a team of 6 that successfully completed the Master run. We had a good MM/traps guy that helped out a lot in the ambushes as well as good corrs and a SS/WP brute that held Reich's agro.
  11. I searched for a thread about influence sinks and didn't find any, so I started this one. If there's one already, I apologize.

    Here goes:

    Heroes:
    - Charity donations, their donations advertised in radio/paper

    Villains:
    1) Minion System - Villains see a contact to hire mercs to do ebil deeds.
    * pay to ambush heroes currently in missions
    * produce missions for heroside, ie, Villain X hired Lost to steal diamond, etc
    2) Bribes
    * bribe to get name in headline on the paper. This will be shown above missions.
    * bribe to get self in TV in Grandville. Sort of a villain of the day. Gets 3 mins of screentime.

    Base
    1) animated/interactive items require maintenance payable in inf or prestige.
    2) maintenance staff: people/robots that perform special functions. They are paid by inf or prestige. Their services could be paid monthly or each time they are used.
    * Operations officer - pays base rent when it's due
    * Supply officer - tracks salvage inventory in bins. Shows a list of what's there and not
    * Personnel officer - tracks the number of people in the group, number of joins and quits, prestige earned daily, weekly and monthly.
    * Task officer - has a list of planned events set by the group leader. Events would be like COP, Task forces, etc...

    Random rolls:
500,000 inf = bronze class recipe
1 mil inf = silver class recipe
5 mil inf = gold class recipe

build, or an 18M SO build has zero understanding or practical experience
with either of our guides -- which is basically the point of where I'm
heading with this thread, how do you get them to START using those
guides to solve the funding problem?
Been there, done that and made it to 50 by sheer patience running regular missions, and some AE. I only did AE because my friends wanted to.
There were some rough spots but I managed to defeat Lord Recluse with a friend. My dominator was slotted with only stuff I picked up and I had 20 mil cash.

As for teaching newbies, Stalemate runs the mentor project. I also teach my VG mates and new friends about the market, show an example of frankenslotting and give a link to the forums if they have a particular build.

There's so many ways of playing the game, we just have to show them the way of ebil *ahem* the way to use the market to their advantage.

And for those who argue that the market is sooo not part of the 'super power' theme, I point out cases of many multi-millionaire villains and heroes in comic books where wealth funds their bases and/or powers.

I see... I did try Gloom on Rom which has a taunt and he ran several paces in my direction and then ran away from me. If I had the actual Taunt power, will he come at me for sure?
  14. I don't want to be a hindrance on the team, so I'm posing this question to the vets out there. Does Soul Mastery: Darkest Night cause fear or make the enemy run away?
On an ITF, I put DN on Rom during the PC attack then went to work on smashing the PC. After the robots go down, Rom wasn't around, but my DN toggle was still on, so I knew he was still alive because the toggle turns off when the target dies. Then the leader complained, 'Somebody put sh*t on him. Stop making him run away.'
I look around and see Rom at the foot of the tall metal building with the leader. I explain to him that I have DN on him and that it's a to-hit debuff. And replies, 'Turn it off, it aint helping.'
I turn it off and read the power description in between missions. Nowhere in it says that it does fear. Am I missing something?

Frustrating pretty much sums up my trial accnt experience from lvl 1-11 in Paragon. I went back to Rogue Isles and shake my head at the heroes trying to find the right train station to go somewhere.

I do wonder tho, how many trial accnts didn't result in a subscription because they started on hero side and got discouraged.

I didn't know either during the 1st month or so and only slotted my drops. I looked up a lot of stuff in paragon wiki and example builds in the forums. Then I took the time to learn Mids to figure out why so and so IO was in the example build. With Mids, you can try different slotting choices and see how it affects your powers. Despite all that, eight months later, I'm still learning, but know enough to deal with the market .

Patch notes. On Hero side, Atlas->Fort Trident. Vill side, Cap->Crucible. I'm a villain player, so all I can tell you that it's the Trashcan in the Crucible.

I've actually run missions with someone from Brazil (Portuguese) via Google Translate, it is an awesome utility.
Eep, thanks for the heads up.
My friend gave me the idea when she told me about her letter to a japanese comic artist. She used Google to translate the japanese page. In th page, she found a note from the artist: Email me for special art. So my friend emailed her with a translated letter via Google translate. The artist replied with the special art but commented: Your japanese is strange.
My friend tried to explain what she had done to the artist and the artist was very appreciative of her effort.
And yes, fun has no boundaries.

Agreed. A combo of frankenslotting and SOs will get you to 50.

Of course, if you're just fooling around in AE, SOs are enough since the AE is designed to let you level.

Put some low bids out on uncommon/yellow IOs.
If you must craft, buy recipes level 20-30 to keep crafting costs down.
By lv 50, you have 88 slots:
    Assuming:
    20000/recipe
    60000/3 pc of salv
    50000/craft cost

    Total crafted cost: 88*(20000+60000+50000) =13,640,000

13.6 mil should fit your budget.

When my toons hit 50, I don't respec with goodies. Instead, each toon must earn their next upgrade. My frankenslotted Elec/shield brute earned enough merits to get a 1 bill upgrade. Currently earning purples...
  21. I speed run the lowbie SFs with my elec m/shield using my 2nd build. My 1st build is for lvl 50 SFs. If you aren't doing PvP, then I suggest using your 2nd build with low lvl IOs. That way, you can optimize your level 50 build for the demands of ITF, RSF, Barracuda and Hamidon raids.

First off, the build has no invisibility. Invisibility is useful for speeding. If you don't want invisibility, slot celerity +stealth lvl 23 or less.

I noticed that you slotted most of the powers taken from 1-28 with level 25-28 IOs. Good work there. I've done lowbie SFs with a friend who plays a SS/WP brute. He does very well.

Hasten should have lvl 20 IOs.

Level 44: Combat Jumping <-- Take this earlier at least by level 25.
Level 47: Maneuvers <-- you took this power at 47, so it will be grayed out at lowbie SFs. No need to put a lvl 25 IO here.

Comments about the SFs in general:
    - There are a lot of defeat alls in the SFs, so pick a primary that has some AOE attacks to kill faster.
    - Being able to skip mobs and go directly to the target saves time.
    - Being able to bring the rest of the team with you saves time. Consider adding recall friend.

If you are able to dedicate a 2nd build for lowbie SFs, here's a summary of what you have to deal with:
    * Tarikoss: Malfactor to 20. Slot 1-2 IOs in lvl 20-23 range. Having invisibility or stealth is useful in a quite a few missions, particularly one where you have to find a Tech and the last mission where you have to find altars. Otherwise, you have to fight thru the mobs, thus wasting insp. Average complete time: 30 mins.

    * Silver Mantis: Malfactor to 25. Slot IOs in lvl 25-28 range. The majority of your IOs for powers that you picked at lvl 1-28 should be at lvl 25-28. This is where defense really helps. If you must optimize for lowbie SFs, optimize for Silver Mantis. It gives the best merit/min ratio. In the 'defeat all Crey' mission, you should be able to take on a mob by yourself. When you're doing the last mission, you're up against 2 or 3 guns and a boatfull of raiders. Shield's AAO is really useful here because the mob around me is boosting my damage while I solo the guns. There have been cases where the rest of the team died and I solo'd the guns until Duray appeared. And even then, I had to hold off Duray while the rest of the team came back from the hospital. Average complete time: 50 mins.

    * Renault: Malfactor to 30. Slot powers gained at lvls 26-33 with lvl 25-30 IOs. Lots of longbow in this. There's a mission where you have to find Shockstorm and the base is huuuge. Average complete time: 40 mins.

    * Ice Mistral: Malfactor to 40. Slot powers gained at lvls 34 to 43 with lvl 35-43 IOs. This one has several defeat alls. Average complete time: 45 mins.

Respecs: Having invis or stealth is useful to get to the tree.
    * 1st respec: Malfactor to 33. Average complete time: 40 mins
    * 2nd respec: Malfactor to 43. Average complete time: 30 mins

I don't recommend Elec Armor for lowbie SFs. Psy attacks, particularly from carnies, just make short work of the brute.

Also, I suggest running these SFs with friends or VG mates. They're less likely to quit. More than half the random folks who said they wanted to come, just wanted a team and quit halfway through the SF.

If you're on the freedom server, look for my announcements for SFs and join in the fun.
  22. You may want to look over the arguments in this thread, starting around post #23.
  23. Another crazy weekend came and went. Thanks to all who came!

Due to Thanksgiving, the next SF madness will be the weekend of 12/4-12/5.

    Saturday runs:

I seem to have lost the Renault screencap. My bad.

  24. I'm seeing more EU folks in the North American servers. In my VG, we have several EU folks. Last night, around 12:30 AM, one of our VG mates from Spain logged in and was looking for team. I had about an hour before bed, so I offered to team up. He said that his english wasn't too good, so I fired up Google Translate and hoped that it would do a decent enough job. He needed the Brickstown mayhem, so I decided to do speed paper missions. I try to tell him what I was doing:

Translate: I will look for Welder and his guards.
--> Voy a buscar Welder y sus guardias.

Since I'm speeding the paper missions, I skip the other mobs and go for the target.
Translate: He's on the third floor.
--> Es en el tercer piso.

Even though I chatted in spanish, he replied in english. After we get the Brickhouse badge, he completed his accolade. Yay! I ask him what he wants to do next.

Translate: What do you want to do?
    --> ¿Qué quieres hacer?

This time, he replies in Spanish. Doh!

Sweating, I copy and paste his response in Google translate, spanish to english. Ah, he wants to do rogue tips... I think...?

Since I don't respond right away, he asked if I spoke spanish. I said:
    Translate: No, I guess.
    --> No, supongo

Then I show him the link to Google translate. He laughs.

I ask which tip he wants to do.
Translate: My tips are Nemesis, CoT and Crey. Who do you want to fight?
--> Mi consejo es Nemesis, CoT y Crey. ¿A quién quieres pelear?

He says Nemesis, so off we go.

At the end of the mish, he says the wifey needs him. It's 1:30 am, so I say Buenos noches (without Google translate. I know at least that much).

He says Buenas dias, since it's morning in Spain. We log out and that ended my day.
