Low Level SF Speed Runner

Hey, will you guys take a look at my brute build?

A number of you guys seem to have a lot more knowledge than me. Additionally, I am willing to listen and learn. The theme of the brute is a toon to stealth SFs for speed, particularly low level SFs--Tarikoss, Silver Mantis, Renault, Mistral--and some lvl 24 Ouro arcs that I like. At the same time, it should be able to function in lvl 50 content even if it's not entirely optimized for lvl 50 content.

Also I like to run raging with all my toggles on.

What I need help with is an attack chain and possibly any tweaks to yield more (in this order) burst damage, dps, recharge, general survivability.

The current build, not the one I am posting, has plenty of survivability, less than the build I am posting, but if I had more killing power I could finish mishes sooner. And since we do speed runs, time is of the essence.

The build is an example of the budget I am willing to use. I actually have all of these enhancements in storage waiting on I19.

Also, I used the unofficial Mids' patch and I don't know how that will display in your Mids'.

Whats if I reposted it withe the title "The most penultimate brute which exceeds perfection"?
Would that get anyone interested by getting them riled up?

You said low level. Are we talking around 25? Cause if so doesnt SS kick but over everything (barring the need for any Aoe that is) You get Rage at 18, and Knockout Blow at like level 3. (Okay, exaggerating, but way early) You get a solid attack chain with SS way early, and the Rage thing just kicks it into a new world.

I know Energy Melee does great ST damage, but it really is burst, and the attacks come in much later, right?

KO blow is 8. :P

And yes, your hefty hitters are going to come at 18 and 32 as a Brute-- very bad for low level. Consider the following.

Quote:
Dark Melee:
Shadow Punch
Smite
Shadow Maul
Siphon Life
Dark Consumption
Soul Drain
Great ST damage chain, and a Superior Damage attack (that heals!) at 8, an endurance recovery tool at 18 (great at low levels), and a lot of -ToHit which can be a lifesaver for Willpower.

Quote:
Super Strength:
Jab
Punch
Haymaker
Knockout Blow
Rage
Hurl
One big chunk of ST damage, great for big boss fights. Knockout Blow, the king of one-hit-wonders at 8. Rage is a godsend for Brutes, and Hurl for those runners.

Quote:
Kinetic Melee:
Quick Strike
Body Blow
Smashing Blow
Power Siphon
Burst
Focused Burst
A single AoE, an interesting debuff, a ranged attack for runners, a fun multi-hit buff component, and one of the most lightning fast melee sets available. Think it's slow? Queue up your attacks one after the other (Try Power Siphon>Focused Burst>Smashing Blow>Quick Strike). The animations chain together like one big DoT.

My guides:Dark Melee/Dark Armor/Soul Mastery, Illusion Control/Kinetics/Primal Forces Mastery, Electric Armor
"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."

You may be right, but this is the toon I have to work with.

I don't think I would enjoy the mechanics of rage. Just doesn't seem like it would be that fun to me. I may be wrong though. I haven't played one past lvl 10 or so.
I have seen some SS toons do some amazing things and I think it's a great set and all. But, I also won't play stone armor for personal enjoyment reasons.

I encourage you to try SS to 18. Rage is like a 2-minute Build Up.

Yeah, I ran a SS/Will for almost a year as my main. i am now leveling another cause I want a clean slate. Like any Brute, pre-20 is kinda painful. Slot for End reduction in attacks and whether the storm (until i19). But from 20 on SS/Will is a monster. It plays like a fat Scrapper, not a light Brute. You do best taking a good look at the landscape, and trying to avoid giant alphas. (This is where I spend all my mental energy in the game, not deciding how to perfect my attack chains, but deciding where I can survive jumping in and winning)
Your only real tools for paying off mistakes with Willpower are Inspirations and good teammates.

But for me SS is just fun, and one of the reasons I chose another Brute instead of a Scrapper for my A Merit ticket earner.

Fire Melee is beastly at low levels for the FSCpwn. Cremate and Incin are great ST dps too.

This is my opinion as well.

If you want a Brute that will play primarily at say L24, Fire Melee and Claws are my two top picks for those level ranges.

Fire Melee at L24 (with powers up to L28) will have 4 ST attacks as well as 2 AoEs available.

Claws will have 5 ST attacks available, as well as 2 AoEs, one of those being Spin which is ridiculously good.

I speed run the lowbie SFs with my elec m/shield using my 2nd build. My 1st build is for lvl 50 SFs. If you aren't doing PvP, then I suggest using your 2nd build with low lvl IOs. That way, you can optimize your level 50 build for the demands of ITF, RSF, Barracuda and Hamidon raids.

First off, the build has no invisibility. Invisibility is useful for speeding. If you don't want invisibility, slot celerity +stealth lvl 23 or less.

I noticed that you slotted most of the powers taken from 1-28 with level 25-28 IOs. Good work there. I've done lowbie SFs with a friend who plays a SS/WP brute. He does very well.

Hasten should have lvl 20 IOs.

Level 44: Combat Jumping <-- Take this earlier at least by level 25.
Level 47: Maneuvers <-- you took this power at 47, so it will be grayed out at lowbie SFs. No need to put a lvl 25 IO here.

Comments about the SFs in general:
- There are a lot of defeat alls in the SFs, so pick a primary that has some AOE attacks to kill faster.
- Being able to skip mobs and go directly to the target saves time.
- Being able to bring the rest of the team with you saves time. Consider adding recall friend.

If you are able to dedicate a 2nd build for lowbie SFs, here's a summary of what you have to deal with:
* Tarikoss: Malfactor to 20. Slot 1-2 IOs in lvl 20-23 range. Having invisibility or stealth is useful in a quite a few missions, particularly one where you have to find a Tech and the last mission where you have to find altars. Otherwise, you have to fight thru the mobs, thus wasting insp. Average complete time: 30 mins.

* Silver Mantis: Malfactor to 25. Slot IOs in lvl 25-28 range. The majority of your IOs for powers that you picked at lvl 1-28 should be at lvl 25-28. This is where defense really helps. If you must optimize for lowbie SFs, optimize for Silver Mantis. It gives the best merit/min ratio. In the 'defeat all Crey' mission, you should be able to take on a mob by yourself. When you're doing the last mission, you're up against 2 or 3 guns and a boatfull of raiders. Shield's AAO is really useful here because the mob around me is boosting my damage while I solo the guns. There have been cases where the rest of the team died and I solo'd the guns until Duray appeared. And even then, I had to hold off Duray while the rest of the team came back from the hospital. Average complete time: 50 mins.

* Renault: Malfactor to 30. Slot powers gained at lvls 26-33 with lvl 25-30 IOs. Lots of longbow in this. There's a mission where you have to find Shockstorm and the base is huuuge. Average complete time: 40 mins.

* Ice Mistral: Malfactor to 40. Slot powers gained at lvls 34 to 43 with lvl 35-43 IOs. This one has several defeat alls. Average complete time: 45 mins.

Respecs: Having invis or stealth is useful to get to the tree.
* 1st respec: Malfactor to 33. Average complete time: 40 mins
* 2nd respec: Malfactor to 43. Average complete time: 30 mins

I don't recommend Elec Armor for lowbie SFs. Psy attacks, particularly from carnies, just make short work of the brute.

Also, I suggest running these SFs with friends or VG mates. They're less likely to quit. More than half the random folks who said they wanted to come, just wanted a team and quit halfway through the SF.

If you're on the freedom server, look for my announcements for SFs and join in the fun.

It's a proc120, so the lvl only matters as to when you can slot it.

However, the upside of Procs is that they continue to work even if you exemplar way below their level. E.g., a level 50 Stealth in Sprint will work even if exemplared to level 10.

Why?
Unlike set bonuses, those enhancements get reduced when a 50 exemplars down since they are greater than 20%

The math works out better for starting with the 42% and having it adjusted down than with starting with 25% an adjusting it by the same percentage. It also works better than starting with lvl 15 IOs @ 19%

The +7.5% rechg bonus is a global that works like a set bonus. So having a lvl 25 enhancement in there gives it's +recharge down to lvl 22
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Table_of_Special_IOs
Globals are Special IOs that act like Set Bonuses in that they are always on even if the power isn't activated and even if the power is greyed out because of exemplaring! However, the one thing that will shut off a Global IO is exemplaring more than three levels under the level of that Global IO.

This is a good point. If I make another one I will prob'ly use claws. But I have this toon already. I will prob'ly work on a corr after this instead of another brute.

Perhaps I will. Look for me in your global friends list. @cossatot.

I played a SS to 39 and deleted it. I loathe rage. The crash is so frustrating, especially when exemplared so you pretty much can't double-stack it to avoid the crash, which people like to do for high-level. Also, it is waaaaayyyyyy slow. Both fire and claws will be more fun at low level.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
