I don't get it even if this game was doing ok why stop the servers? Why go to all this trouble to literally disappear CoH in time for xmas on a seemingly semi-prosperous game. Why not sell the rights to another publisher or dev house? Why stop a game outright like this and basically piss off its fan base at the same time?
NCsoft kills games it has a long line of games that have come and gone. I dont have to remind people of the TR fiasco where they lost near 30 million dollars in a lawsuit. This is a bad business. I'm sad to see this game go. I have 3 toons over 1000 hours of play and subbed to this game back in june 2004. But thats the way the real world of high business is run. We are loyal to this game but the business that runs it is only loyal to what they can earn.
It still baffles me why they aren't selling this property too to keep it going. Maybe these 'secret' projects of theirs are something to behold. Perhaps the game engine is being re-proposed but in the light of these changes I am not going to give a business such as this another red cent.
GG NCsoft for killing a decent fun game that a huge community has enjoyed since 2004. So I'm doing what my granite brute is doing down there flipping you off one last time and saying good bye after i level my WS to 50. -
I did leave 1 thing out we used to do and that was box farming in PP, BT, and CF. But sadly it would take you forever to do those now with a taunt max of 5 and an agro cap. Krakens in sewer and 7 minute Eden trials FTW.

Trying to think of new things to do. Its summer, its boring, and hell this game is still fun!
I have an idea just like the title says the 'retro' way.
Here's what goes down:
Make a new toon!
Level to 2 in the intro but don't kill anything in the 'real world'.
Then we hit the sewers and we don't come out till we hit the Steel Canyon door.
We level in SC and head to Perez Park and either hells highway or if those are grey we head to the lake and run hydras.
After such time that the stuff in PP turns grey we run through Skyway and train then on to a Synapse TF.
After all that we should be well on our way to being SO range 21+ area.
No AE farms, No radio missions, and good times with new people.
Thing is this isn't an event. Its more of a challenge to vets to get out of the 'norm' of leveling your toons.
The main reason I'm doing this is to help people learn the game through good old fashioned teaming. So the idea is to meet new folks, reunite more vets to thinking this is a game of many sides.
I was running some striga missions the other day and three people needed specific directions to get to the zone and I go holy hell these people don't know this game...
Anyway as the servers go back online start the buzz and do those things that bring new people into the game and out of the AE rooms!
My global is new...its the same now everywhere c4maniac not Pepsi Can, not Black.

K it worked this time
This is a teaser trailer intro! -
My upload connection is super slow the vid is only 40 megs but its going to take another hour.
Here's my channel page on youtube you can watch for it there and reminisce with the other vids to got too. Most are pre issue 9.
And I am coming back for the holidays to ski pocket d with my nephew when I head home for the holidays. -
...when we tried to warburg nuke the hamidon? Crazy Badge (You still around?) had an idea to nukem just before the hami changes took effect way back when.
Well I found the vid! Finally! We didn't make it but we got the hami down to the mito spawn and wiped. Enjoy...its uploading to youtube as I type this. Link to follow soon. -
Quote:I way I brake out of the chain for boring old content cause really I can't stand pvp anymore, what I do is roll the most weirdest builds now, and that I'm waiting out to play my traps/* defender! Oh and base editing too keep me busy too...(and I'm working on a pretty epic story arc in AE) but shhhh! Well I do have to be honest I haven't played the last year and AE has brought me back cause I think its great to create and this game has given us that. Its like a little big planet MMO now which is cool....me, along with most people I know, don't farm like that...
No wonder you think the risk vs. reward is skewed.
And I fully agree with c4maniac.
By your definition, and that of was most people who are opposed to farming in AE, doing the same old newspaper missions and the same old content after 5 years can be considered farming. So, in a sense, we're all farmers! OH MY GOD! WE'RE ALL BRINGING THE DEATH OF COH! :O -
Hey man! I'll team with ya! Ya I'm back playing too since AE came out I'm creating some things
Or well when I get around to finishing what I started, my life like this game is a series of half finished projects.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No more true is that statement than what AE is capable of. What I mean by that is AE is the clay and your its artisan. So, to actually answer the OP question, "Has AE KOed Cox?" No I don't think it has.
For many reasons its widened this game. In the search window click random and see the vast array of creative talent people have to offer. Its just like anything else, even the devs have made the best farming missions: shadow hunter wolves, ninjas, family, and for all you old school players box herding in Boomtown and Creys Folly.
Its great for badgers. Just yesterday I found a mission with nothing but smasher elites for the warrior badge, so I didn't have to painstakingly go to sirens call for 5 hours and get ganked by stalkers over and over again. Its allowed freedom and the skies the limit. Just try one of the many Elite Bosses/AV user created arcs.
Its the age old debate. I've heard it all before. Lets break this down some.
''We don't agree that you leveling this way.''
To basically summarize players want other players to follow their ingame 'rules' like we're playing their game and their rules and we can't deviate from that. Just fit into a box and get to 1-50 how we tell you and nothing else!!
I mean lets take a broader look at it too. All those scanner teams or paper mission teams that run on invincible in the same zone for 10 levels...isn't that like farming/PLing too in a way taking nothing but council or freakshow defeat boss and minions rooms?
If you don't like AE don't play in AE. Granted its not for everyone. Just like some other content in this game that's left alone like, sewer trial, eden trial, and others and dead zones: Boomtown, Perez Park, Dark Astoria, Eden, and Creys folly, widely ignored by the populous so they can run their scanner/paper missions. I do not have a problem with people running scanner missions over and over again, so don't pick me apart and capsule my post by saying I'm against scanner missions!!
Anyway I'm a vet of 60 months in this game, I've seen different stages of this game and to me, honestly, I think AE has at least for myself saved this game. For me its an alternative to raising the level cap and create some fantastic content that's user driven. -
Good point and welcome to the forums.
In the past (and I've been playing 5 years) downtime is from 7-9 pacific TYPICALLY. They say 2 hour window but may take longer. -
Your always going to have farmers, power levelers, power players, and PvPers that want to get to 50 as fast as possible.
There is a lot of choices ingame to do whatever you want to get to 50. AE is new, AE is something the above paragraph of people will do to get to 50.
Now this game has a habit of changing and eliminating the first paragraphs attempts at getting to 50 fast with the most minimal risk possible. What they plan on doing...no idea...but with everything else they have restricted in past to try and curtail it.
This might be one solution. Maybe an internal thing where the system logs you and finds your in the same mission over and over again. You could figure out a formula to degrade the xp if you run it too many times in a row over a period of time. Like under 5 minutes and you get 1/2 xp. Under 5 mins again 1/4 xp...1/8 xp...etc -

I got the proc in there now, was lucky yesterday did a Sis tf had enough merits to buy some with merits.

Just got back to the game and decided to roll this build, right now he's 22 just got SO's. Two questions for opinions. Am I going to want stamina when I get the heavier BS attacks? Or would QR with 4 slots (3 IO end mod, 1 Performance shifter: chance for +end) be enough?
BTW the real numbers are a real nice addition, theres no more quess work as to what the enh does.
edit: I just rolled all 7's for post too thats a good luck milestone! -

Instead of lol, protector to propose w00t, protector.

For the record I saved this thread from the brink of the forum black hole it was the last on the list.

1) Threadjacking...this speaks for itself and was the original reason for putting in a sanctioned threadjacking thread. But it happens here on other more serious threads, and quite often.

I had a thread jacking thread once....waaaaaaay back when. Man those we're the days! -
Don't mess with my defender!
-
If no ones around I'll get one going, albeit if theres more interested, if I haven't forgotten its about 3 fulls teams to make.

While looking at movie reviews on RT found this same name.....in the best of the best list! Yes I was really bored.

While doing some testing on my lvl 42 NRG/Stone brute doing an unsloted end redux total focus before this stealth nerf was doing about 18 redux on the bar after and I think it was a temp power doing this the life insurance in a mayhem mission was causing it. After getting that temp my bar went from 3/4 to about 1/3 end so 75-35 is about 40 which is double the amount. After the temp power went away my end cost reduced to proper values. Just food for thought a temp always on for a time period that reduces end more its kinda puzzling to say the least good luck castle replicating it. Sounds like a bug someone is going to fix by accident.
I also did a number crunch on whirling hands as I could just sit anywhere and do it and found the same result while I had the temp power. -
That vid looked pretty good
Nice to see our lil scrapper's doing well.
