Quote:I recently spec'd in to the 4 pet IOs and they've provided a nice survival boost. On top of double maneuvers and barrier, they stay alive a good while. Based on the trial, I wait to spawn them until needed for hard targets. I kinda have a routine for each trial. For instance on DD, I pull them out for the Sentinel fight and they usually refresh by the time you're defending inside of Mot. I don't, however pull them out right then and there but rather I save them for the upcoming Diabolique fight. Once everyone's set up on Diabolique, I drop all the spiders right on top of her and they just go to town.very interesting thread here. To blue ruckus, how is the survivability of your pets? I find that in tougher content my spiderlings would die pretty frequently. My crab isn't tricked out with all the T4s yet either, so I am wondering how your pet based crab fares in iContent after a "finished" build.
Best,
MT
For normal missions I just keep them out at all times as my AoE chain is more effective for steamrolling. The pets are just an extra luxury at that point. -

Quote:Glad to be of help. Once again, going back to survival, we've got accolades and always have res/def insps clogging up our trays so I wouldn't overly obsess over defense... but I understand where you're coming from. Just remember, there's no inspirations for recharge. You have given me a lot to think about so thank you for all your advice
I am going to spend the rest of the night trying to make a build which reaches a set of targets, but am failing badly so far. If I don't make it I might open a build competition because it is doing my head in lol.
Though I suspect my targets might be a tad unrealistic.
Best of luck to you on your build. Feel free to global me @blue ruckus if you have any questions. -
Flying enemies don't pose a big issue to me, the cones have a large area so even if they're a bit off the ground, I can snag them and the ground level opponents in the same volley. Having that big range on the cones really makes a difference. Like you said, I do have Web Envelope if i just need to drop a bunch of fliers, but normally I would just back up and shoot them down.
Heavy Burst > Suppression there is no redraw. Suppression > Heavy Burst, there is very minimal redraw. Really, it's not a big issue after playing with it for so long. On +0 +1 stuff, by the time Suppression hits, most mobs are cleared. My only gripe with Suppression is it's long cast time (3 seconds!), but I've learned to deal with it and make the most of it. While it's casting I pay attention to how enemies are arranged so I start planning on how I'm going to line up my next cone volley.
In terms of redraw, Shatter Armor is the biggest culprit but I would never think of getting rid of it. I don't use it ALL the time, but only when going up against a Boss or higher THEN I start doing my single shot>burst> single shot chain, occasionally throwing in VG to keep the -RES going. SS and Burst are some of the highest DPA attacks out there.
The patron pet, I believe spawns at the same level as the caster since there is only 1 of them. Call reinforcements spawns at -1 since there's 2 of them. Spiderlings at -2 since there's 3. That's just the way pets work overall. Soulbound was thrown in to Spiderlings because the set doesn't give a whole lot of recharge. To get all pets perma and get all the unique IOs, I had to go Soulbound on Spiderlings since they're very easy to perma as opposed to the other 2 pets. Still, since there's 3 spiderlings, it's just more overall chances to build up. In the end, I think the overall damage ends up being around the same as all the pets attack at a fairly equal pace. -
Quote:I'm not sure how Clockwork received the title of 'best at AoE', but I hear it a lot. I'm guessing it was during the initial release when there were only 4 (?) lore pets to choose from. Clockwork only have a single AoE attack and it's a slow recharging 3 target-max cone - http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/power...Clockwork_BossI am now curious, do Drones outpace Clockwork, which at one time were the best AoE?
Drones, I believe, are the best at pure ranged. If you're looking for best AoE overall, I think Vanguard ends up having the most out of all pets. The Vanguard boss has 2 AoE, the LT has 1, and they're all spherical at that. -
This is the build I'm currently running. I'm considering a minor tweak or two, but it's finalized for the most part.

Well considering your scrapper iTrial experience I can understand the survival obsession. If you change your mind and want to go damage heavy that wouldn't be so awful either since Crabstermind can put out the damage in buckets.
Here's a link on the RWZ all pylon solo run I just completed if you'd like to know a bit more on the setup. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=286886 -
Tonight I solo'd all the Pylons in RWZ and boarded the ship.
http://i.imgur.com/0s3I1.jpg
I've posted some pretty fast times on a single Pylon before but there were a few mentions that my Crabstermind method doesn't accurately reflect DPS and that a better measure would be to take down 3-5 pylons. Whatever the case, I knew that the damage was there and that I had a good chance to pull off the solo run.
I made some mistakes early on which slowed down my progress and was on the verge of restarting later, but I just went for it. I ended up accidentally flying in to the ship and getting ported back to base twice. Annoying! On a couple of pylons, I had some additional aggro from nearby groups which slowed me down as the spiders weren't focus firing on the pylon so I had to clear them out first. These set backs ended up making me 20 seconds short of clearing out all pylons without respawn (dang Mothership teleporting me!) so I ended up having to play catch up. In total I took out 22 pylons in roughly 35 minutes or so.
I did use inspirations and also used about 20 envenom daggers (I kept forgetting to use them so I ended up with 10 leftover). I ended up going with Destiny Incadescence to port around my Spiders which was nice, but this ended up leaving me without Barrier or Rebirth to protect them during the Pylon fights. I just had to make sure that my position was just right so they received my leadership buffs but were out of AoE range.
In terms of Lore I stuck with my Robotic Drones because they're just what I normally use for everything else. They fly so if they ended up grabbing aggro they're normally out of AoE range from the Spiders. Also, they have some -regen on all their attacks so that helps speed things up.
Interface, I went with Degenerative because the -Max HP adds up pretty nicely when coming from multiple sources. Less Max HP means less regen and less overall damage I have to pump out on each pylon. With Alpha, I go musculature because damage is king!
Overall, it was a fun ride and a good test of strength for my crab build. The last few minutes were pretty exciting as I rushed to put them down before the next one respawned. I was really tempted to just bring out an HVAS but that would've felt like a cheap victory so I'm glad I didn't resort to it. I'm pretty confident that I can do it next time without respawns now that I know where I made mistakes, but I'm in no huge rush to do this again.
Anyway, thanks for reading. -
Quote:The ATO proc triggers very often on Heavy Burst, I also threw it in there because it's what I spam the most. My chain is VG > Heavy Burst > Suppression > Heavy Burst > REPEAT, so getting the max range on my cones is ideal for my build. I had Posi's Sets in my cones for the longest time, but after switching to the Hami frankenslotting, I was wiping out groups a lot easier and more efficiently.I am not sure about dropping Tough and Weave, but I do like the way you have slotted some powers, particularly Heavy Burst.
Do you find the ATIO proc works best in the Heavy Burst? That is what I was considering but I was waiting until we get confirmation of how PPM procs work in cones before making my mind up.
You also have more Achilles' Heel procs than me, I was worried about them overlapping and being wasted, but you might be on to something.
Last question: How good is the patron pet?
In terms of AH proc, I like having multiples of them because while I know they don't stack it just means I'll have more chances to apply the proc.
Patron pet is pretty much a given for my perma-pet setup. I mean, it's another pet and at boss level so I don't see why I wouldn't include it. SoA's are all about force multipliers so the more the merrier. Also, I run Musculature so my pets spawn in at +130% damage and then the extra 30% damage from double assault bumping them up to 160. Switching over to Vengeance on my most recent revision was a godsend. Pet damage bumps up to +195% and they become softcapped for 2 whole minutes. It's just a good feeling when you know that your pets alone are out DPS'ing many of your teammates, but unlike MMs you yourself are also dishing out a lot of damage.
In terms of Tough/Weave... if you drop them you'd probably be able to run Musculature without any real issues. Your build doesn't look like a tank-focus build, if you're planning on using heavy burst a lot you're going to be moving a lot to line up your cone. Hovering around will mitigate a lot of incoming damage as enemies chase you down. But as you mentioned, like having all that defense, this is one of those things that you'll just have to play for yourself to realize. I would suggest maybe dropping a slot out of Fortification so you can toss another Hami-O on Tough because it's a pretty pricey toggle on your end bar. -
My build might be something along the lines of what you're looking for. It's not a melee pure-tank build, but rather a hover-gun crabstermind dps build. I have perma-hasten, perma-pets, +185 recharge, 43.6 ranged defense, perma-serum, high damage AoE attack chain, all 4 pet IOs and have little endurance issues running Musculature. With this build I'm able to solo a pylon in about 1:20 mins, 30-40 seconds with Lore pets. You'll make scrappers/brutes/stalkers cry.
I'm not as stacked on defense as other builds in exchange for recharge/damage, but with perma-serum, fast-hover mobility, and 80' fast recharging cone attacks, I don't find myself dying often at all. On the other hand, I normally find myself being one of the last standing during disastrous iTrials, especially now that my most recent tweak has added Vengeance. If you're the type who rarely dies, having Vengeance is a great idea, especially for the pets who put out a good chunk of DPS.
I had Tough on my previous build but just found it unnecessary (for my playstyle) and anything that ended up killing me, would've killed me with or without Tough. I haven't looked back since ditching it for Omega Maneuver and Vengeance.
Any questions, just ask.

Awesome results.
I've been working on an StJ stalker and also have nothing but praises for SBE procs. I put touch of death and mako's bite proc in to assassin strike, shin breaker, and crushing uppercut. The extra damage activates pretty much all the time so I'm 1-2 shotting enemies quite often.
I ended up taking Char from APP and so far have 1 acc, 1 lockdown +2 mag, and decimation build up, it's pretty nuts. Holds bosses everytime and gives build up 53% of the time. The activation time on char is about half a second so this has minimal impact on attack chains dps. Firing off a critical double-proc'd double build-up Crushing Uppercut is really a beautiful thing. -
Quote:That's pretty spot on. Formula for single target is -- recharge/60 x PPMI will test it tomorrow, but it seems to be procing at lease every other activation of SK.
SK is on a 6 second recharge sooooo 6/60 = .10 or 10% multiply now by PPM - normal version is 4 PPM superior is 5 PPM.
Normal version is 40% chance with Storm Kick.
Superior version is 50% chance with Storm Kick. -
Not a bug. All the ATO procs work off a Procs Per Minute formula instead of a flat % chance. What this means is that powers with a longer base recharge will proc more often than quick spamming attacks. Per the formula, AS recharge is long enough that it will proc everytime.

Something that hasn't been mentioned in support of Drones is the range on these guys. Their single target attacks have a 120' range and their cones are at 60'. This extraordinary range means that they'll spend less time running around trying to catch up to enemies and more time blasting away.
For AVs, you'll get better performance out of warworks but drones aren't too far behind. On Pylon runs, I take it down in about 33 seconds with Warworks and about 40 seconds with Drones.
For everything else, I'd say Drones are more ideal since they're swapping between many targets and not running to chase them.
Also, they fly and that's always a plus. -
Honestly, this whole "scrappers need love" campaign kinda just surged within the past few days. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing but can't help but feel this is one big April Fool's joke in the making. What other logical explanation would there be?

Quote:I started up a beast/traps last night. It's pretty fun. Since traps is so hands off, you can spam Ravens and build up Pack Mentality pretty consistently. Also, since you'll be spamming Ravens I'd recommend slotting an Achilles proc early on to make it a smooth ride.I was hoping that Cold Domination was going to be proliferated over to Master Minds because I thought a Beast/Cold would be cool. However I'm probably going to go Beast/Traps, and hope it's not too rough of a ride. My BFF will be playing a Dark/Dark Dom so hopefully we will mesh well.

All of the attacks have the 'ignores range buffs' flag. I noticed that a lot of demon summoning attacks show the same as well. I get the feeling that this maybe is supposed to be recharge and not range? Otherwise, I'm sure someone would've stumbled upon this long ago since DS has been out for almost 2 yrs now. Should be able to test this easily on an RWZ dummy though.

You'd have to look at each summon and each pet buff to see all attacks. It's not a neat list but it works. -
I started up a StJ stalker recently and yes, Crushing Uppercut does amazing damage on criticals. The damage is nearly equivalent to an AS in hide. As mentioned, with the ATO proc you can guarantee on hitting a critical uppercut everytime. It really is an amazing thing to behold.

I know you said no PvP IOs but have you checked the price on them lately? You can get the +def Gladiator Armor for 300 million now. That would be a quick way to get you an easy 3 def.

Quote:Crab with gun attacks is the optimal way to go on this. The only crab attack I take is suppression for the wide cone.I took one look at the DPA of the crab attacks and went "blech". Considering I like to go for high recharge builds, bad DPA is a big warning sign for me. That pretty much made my decision to stay huntsman/bane. I find huntsman the nice middle ground capable of good single target and AoE.

Ouch that is a bit steep. I would only buy a few of the procs to min/max my main.
I wonder if you'd be able to slot these earlier than level 50. One of the main perks of the SBEs is slotting them early and having them level with you. If not, then I don't see the point as you can +5 boost the normal versions but not these. -
Awesome. I remember seeing some patch notes a few weeks back regarding attuned Purples. Will be interesting to see how much these sell for. I'd buy the procs for sure.

Posi proc is 3 PPM. Nothing in the store goes over 3 PPM currently.
